Being a huge mythology nerd growing up, this game always fascinated me with all the representation they had and all the different cultural icons they introduced me to. I find the MOBA genre to be one of the better examples of how to do the F2P formula right, but one thing worth mentioning (just some trivia, completely understandable with this being your first foray into the genre), SMITE is actually pretty unique as a MOBA due to its third person perspective and active/frenetic combat - traditional MOBA like League of Legends are typically top down and pretty passive/tactical combat-wise [as basic attacks are automatic, kind of like in an MMO, unlike in SMITE where you have to manually aim and execute them]. Its this distinction that helps SMITE stand out as a good intro to the Genre for those that find the standard approach a bit too slow paced.

Great vid Johnny. If you do find yourself looking to play SMITE more, here's a few beginners tips: - The different classes all have their roles. Guardians tend to tank damage/stun/initiate (support role). Assassins are great for burst or 'roaming' to tip the balance on different lanes. Mage's have good abilities and tend to be mid. Carry is just what you'd expect and tend to do more DPS and when they get ahead, can tip the balance of a match and Warriors are jack of all trades, tend to harass other players by tanking damage whilst doing decent damage back. They all cater to different playstyles, I like to compare it to MMO classes like FFXIV in a way. - Items can make a huge difference. For beginners, you can turn on auto-buy which will just buy a pre-set recommended 'build' for the match, meaning you can just jump in and let the game buy for you. More advanced players will learn to customise their builds either on the go as different items give different stats/effects. You can even create a build and set it to auto-buy so you don't have to spend time purchasing it yourself. - Arena is a great TDM mode and I believe it's the most popular. Conquest is the 'traditional' MOBA experience and where most of the 'e-sports' competitions take place in. A good Conquest team will have a good balance, map awareness and help tips the balance of the lanes to try and gain an advantage to win. Given that it's an excuse to have gods beat up other gods and to introduce new gods, and some of the gods aren't even gods but just powerful mythical beings, I'd say plot and lore don't matter.
Just a shame they've been taking steps back over the years and pretty much pointing Smite towards ruin, if you're not an ability based god it's going to hurt to play as them, since instead of reducing defense they've been pushing up magic damage, mages have become the core damage dealer with the ability to near one shot people while hunters and warriors are sliding into the background, guardians are still tough to kill yet since being magic based will easily kill low to medium health targets, which means all warriors are almost turning into assassins to keep up for the itemization also favors one shots in the physical department in that way also
Played this game alot 3 years ago. Looks changed alot now, maybe i should get back into it. And Scylla is great, was my favorite by far back then, you got good taste Johnny!
Just a quick heads up, the founders pack have the gods pack in them, that is every god they ever release....EVER! I got in on the beta for PC, and I still get new gods when they drop, and that was about seven years ago. If you like this game at all, very worth the money.

Also Ne Zha is a dude. XD
Given that it's an excuse to have gods beat up other gods and to introduce new gods, and some of the gods aren't even gods but just powerful mythical beings, I'd say plot and lore don't matter.
@@Ballade90 Doesn't mean there isn't a story or reason. It's like League with a segregation between story and gameplay
This was a pleasant surprise
I did not expect a review for this game. Especially one that I play a lot of.
Man I haven't played Smite in ages, but this video has inspired me to shake off some rust!
Man, I've tossed so many hours and so many bucks to HiRez across Smite and Paladins it's ridiculous.
Nice to see you kinda liked it
Just a shame they've been taking steps back over the years and pretty much pointing Smite towards ruin, if you're not an ability based god it's going to hurt to play as them, since instead of reducing defense they've been pushing up magic damage, mages have become the core damage dealer with the ability to near one shot people while hunters and warriors are sliding into the background, guardians are still tough to kill yet since being magic based will easily kill low to medium health targets, which means all warriors are almost turning into assassins to keep up for the itemization also favors one shots in the physical department in that way also
Played this game alot 3 years ago.
I have over 1500 hours in this game and can say... it’s a great MOBA. S6 is starting in a couple days which looks to be the best season so far. It’s pretty intimidating when you start but just bite the bullet.
