      Gord, grab Bob's Snobear & join us at the get together at Winnipeg in March. I say that so I'll know who to ask where to fish! LOL I'll bring an extra auger and keep fingers crossed. ~Tight Lines~

    Going for lake trout for the first time in a week or so to Temagami. Going to try your tips. Hanging the Same bait and the up high method for second rod. Really enjoy all your videos.

    Excellent presentation. And I totally agree with you. That is how I fish for lake trout in and around Sault Ste. Marie area.

    Awesome tips Gord! When you say no minnows, not even minnow heads on the trebles? Love your videos and knowledge! Thanks again!

    I have found big 20lb lake trout in shallow depths less than 6 feet of water, they arent always in deep water in Feb/March. I have had good luck with Doctor spoons and Luhr Jensen Mantis spoons.

    I use what I call the pyzer technique on Lake wpg for walleye (3 holes , jig , ducer, crank) which I give you full credit for on my videos. I am planning a trip to High lake next to falcon for Lakers which I have never seen this species before , your instructions are valued but my concern is (being new to this species ) is where do I start? Islands, points, deep deep, deep ? I appreciate I need to put in the work to find them but what is a good starting point?

      The Wild North Netley - Hi Wild North, I love setting up off points and over top of reefs / sunken shoals. Early in the morning and again later in the afternoon, you can find the trout cruising much shallower than you’d think, then come mid day they slide off into deeper water. Keep moving, stay mobile and you’ll find them. Good luck!

    What size, model and color of Williams spoons are you using, Gord? I'm heading to Ely on Thursday for some laker fishing.

    Another good trick is to jig fairy close to your other dead stick. A lot of times you’ll miss setting the hook and before you know it that fish you missed has nailed your dead stick just a few feet away (Usually within seconds). By using this tactic me and my son are usually limited out within an hour or so of our start time here where we fish for macs.

    Using a baitrunner reel on that outside line would let the fish run with your bait, and you wouldn't have to mess with your drag settings.

    Gord, what rod and reel are you using in this video?

    • @CanadianAnglingAdventures
      @CanadianAnglingAdventures 6 років тому +1

      Larry Oliver It is a 38” Frabill heavy action rod with a Shimano Sedona 2000 reel. My other “go to” lake trout outfit is a 42” Rapala R-type heavy action rod/reel combo.

      Thanks for the reply. I have been looking at various rods in the 38"-42" range both medium heavy and heavy action. For reels I have been looking at different brands in the 25 and 35 series. You've confirmed that I am on the right track. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

      Sounds like you’re definitely on the right track. For what is worth, I’ve gravitated a bit away from medium heavy action rods lately and more over to the heavy action. Just feel like I get better hook sets with the heavy action, and the longer length gives good “hook holding” capabilities. 😄
