While Red is the main character, there's another champion in Kanto, and this is Blue Oak! SO here comes Pokemon Blue, episode 5. Vermilion arc, lt. surge gym leader battle and raticate death on ss anne!

That moment when Blue casually pulls out his boombox out of his bum bag. RPG logic at its finest!^^ Something tells me Kadabra took great pleasure in pummeling Surge's Pikachu... Poor Surge though. He just wanted to work in peace, and there comes a hooligan with a boombox.^^ With its return to the beginning of the Kanto storyline and shorter-length episodes, this series really feels like a nostalgic dive back...
I must say, I didn't think you could find a way to make Raticate's death as impactful as in the original series, since I knew it was coming this time. But the "hope spot"/dream trope worked perfectly to make this scene as sad while giving it an other perspective. Congratulations sir.

It's interesting to see how Blue sees the world - it's like he's the only person in it and Red and everyone else are just blips he has to interact with to get to where he's going. Like, are we ever going to see Red's eyes in this series? :)

The color and style change after Raticate's death was an unexpected but welcomed style choice. Your perspective of the Pokemon universe will always captivate me as it always has for the past few years! Love the work and effort you put into each episode

@@PedroAraujoStudio I knew there was something up with the music, but couldn't put my finger on it. Then the SS Anne made me go 'Oh no, I know what's coming...' but those last few scenes still hit me like a punch to the gut and then one to the face right after. I both choked up, then teared up. I don't emote easily, so that takes some serious skill.

So Looker gave Blue his Growlithe. What a nice guy. I actually remember that Looker had one in that animated short where he initiated a raid on the Viridian Gym. I guess he must have a whole bunch of those puppies.
from what i remember most of the police trianer class uses growlithes =)
Watching movies with my Raticate (Ratchet) and my family was something I didn't even know I wanted until now - thanks for the epiphany, bro. And sorry for your loss.
Gosh, those hospital beeps and Blue's dream of Raticate having survived hit me harder than I thought. Even knowing it was coming, it still hurts me. Phenomenal work, Pedro. Keep at it.

For a moment, I thought that was a what if Raticate survived... But the scenes afterwards... I think they're more heart wrenching than the original scene.

Also, the way you did at the end was emotional. Blue thought Raticate was alive but in reality was just a dream. I feel bad for him

Hey Pedro, here's a suggestion for another series that I think could also generate good views - A LeafGreen series that takes place between Red and Gold where Green explores the Sevii Islands and basically all the content that is exclusive to the FR/LG remakes. It'd be fun to see Green as the main character and dealing with Team Rocket plotline considering her backstory with them
He just leaves Bill as a pokemon, dishonor to Lt. Surge by both barging in the gym and then refusing to shake hands, wow Blue was being an ass.
It hurts to see him suffer over Raticate but I hope we see attitude/heart change.
Maybe he'll get a training sequence with Koga. We've seen how he reacts to the other gym leaders via Red; he's gonna be annoyed with Erika (because he went along with the dress), he's going to actually train under Koga for a while, he's gonna laugh at Sabrina (which considering she curbstomped him AND that's after Silph Co....), and Blaine/Giovanni aren't exactly good guys anyway.
....Now that I'm thinking about it I'd totally be onboard with seeing a Blue training with Koga sequence.

I love the idea that Blue was basically how Bill got stuck as a Pokémon, I also love seeing this world from his perspective. Somehow it was a harder but easier hit to see Raticate this time, I can’t explain why, but I love the trasition in animation and I love the fact he basically annoyed surge into getting the tree 😂 great job as always Pedro!
While Red was taking everything in stride and living life, Blue was rushing for the medals, you could say that from Blue's perspective, Red is nothing more than a quiet sociopath who killed his Raticate and who also steals his love. from his grandfather....
You excellently capture the feeling of desperation after loss with that dream. To hope it was all a dream, to hope he's still alive. You have outdone yourself with this one.

This was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Surge put that tree there so he can be alone for the moment, and blue,s raticate lived only for it to be a dream. Excellent video btw.

There is again so much to love about this episode. Blue being the reason for surges extra security measures, blue being the reason bill is stuck a pokemon. looker being the reason blue has a pokemon he should only be able to encounter later, it is all fantastic.
But what fascinates me the most right now is your talent for musical and sound based storytelling. Almost this entire episode the sad S.S Anne music never disappears, not even blues boombox could overpower it. And then the fight between raticate and nidoking went by so fast, and seemed to be seen from an out of body view from outside the ship. Even before the raticate survival fakeout, i had an extremely strong feeling this wasnt the events happening right now, but a dreamlike frantic recollection of some of the worst time blue went through recently.

Thanks for another great episode. As always you have nailed the way you use the sound and the generational art/color styles to set the mood. Kinda interesting the way the music in this episode both kinda build up to the disaster and also makes the whole episode seem like a nightmare Blue is having only to wake up to actually living it.

Blue is speed running the map ! We're at épisode 5 and I think it was épisode 16 on Red series.
It's funny how Blue sees Red way differently than the other characters are doing.

And man.... I was NOT expecting that cop out when Blue thought that Raticate was gonna make it but then realized it was a dream.
Of course... noice touch in using the old school animation when Blue realized the reality that his Raticate is truly dead.

Anyways, I digress. Yeah, this episode is great in a lot aspects and I agree with your points.
Dang, Pedro surprised us all with Raticate surviving being an AU dream of sorts...but it goes to show how affected Blue is over his grief over Raticate's death...that dream's definitely a circumstance he wished would've happened but never will, probably denial or an escape but one that's pretty short lived and only makes it worse when you think about it.
And this does also explain how Blue got his Growlithe...and getting one from Looker does make sense when you consider the police tend to use the Growlithe line to begin with.
Another thing I liked about this episode was the how Bill got turned into a Nidorino in the first place and Blue just left him in that state. Also how Blue got his bike and evolved Wartortle, although I didn't expect him to battle the bike shop owner. (Kinda reminds me of a Team Rocket rom hack on Fire Red where you can battle the shop owner although he doesn't really use Dugtrio) As well as the whole bits with Surge, Blue taking on the gym during the time he was reading his report on Zapdos, and also why Surge set up that tree in the first place. XD
And as if the whole expectation subverting on the whole Raticate fiasco wasn't tragic enough for this ep, then we got the end setting up the Marowak mom eventually meeting her demise at the hands of Team Rocket with poor Cubone having to watch it all happen. Sheesh, it works but the way this episode concludes gets depressing real fast, ngl.

And in regards to Victor Tanzig, yeah I tell ya... I get really fed up of those constantly asking Victor when Season 6 of Stories of Sodor is gonna come out.
All I have to do is ask them to be patient and wait. Besides.... learning to be patient helps pay off in the long run, especially for those that do long time projects.

Man, Blue's arrogance really knows no bounds. Even refusing Surge, of all people. But there was... something there.
And then Raticate. Oh god that poor raticate. What a scene, and the nightmare after. That ending was beautiful and brutal.

Great story-telling as usual! At first, it makes me glad knowing Blue gets his @$$ kicked by Red ultimately in the end with how arrogant he is and narrow-minded he is with thinking he’s above shaking Lt. Surge’s hand after winning. Then you see the horror and sadness in Blue’s eyes as Red’s Nidoking just destroyed Raticate and threw it out the window of the ship to its deathly demise and it makes you feel for Blue for a brief moment. Excellent work making the audience both despise Blue but also sympathize with his character at other times Pedro! Looking forward to the following episodes with Lavendar town :)

Next episode would be even more hard for Blue since he will have to go on his Journey without Raticate... and then put him in the coffin.

So you found a creative way to break my heart again Pedro.... now I'm gonna go cry in the corner... again.
Man, the battle may have been cut since we already saw it in Red's story, but it still hits hard as we get into Blue's head for the aftermath. This was his wakeup call that Pokemon are more than just strength for him. Whether he knew it or not, he was developing bonds. It just took the loss of one for it to start sinking in. And the way after his imagine spot it went to Gen 1 colors was a nice touch. A different take on how in traumatic moments film will go black and white.
That moment of hope for raticate was ... it really got me
Is the switch to the gameboy sprites going to be a recurring thing during moments like these, because it looks so nice. And seeing Blue Contemplate out what looks like some sort of guilt for not shaking Surge's hand was great.
