List of Recommended Materials and Equipment from Jacksons Art
PAPER
Both these papers (Bockingford and Langton) are ideal for learning to paint, as they offer correct response from the watercolour paint, and yet allow corrections and alterations which more expensive papers do not permit. You need Cold Pressed (NOT) paper. Choice of size is up to you, as is the format.
BOCKINGFORD : GLUED PAD : A4 (8 x 11 ins): 300GSM (140lb): 12 SHEETS : NOT (Cold Pressed Medium Texture) £8
This paper is ideal for beginners as it is tough yet responsive. It is easy to make corrections on this paper, which has an attractive and distinctive texture. It is available in lots of sizes and as pads, blocks and sheets. It is available in Hot Pressed, NOT and Rough.

DALER ROWNEY: LANGTON : A4 (8 x 11 ins) 300gsm (140lb): 12 SHEETS:NOT (Cold Pressed Medium Texture £8.50
The Langton is a high-quality watercolour paper ideal for beginners. The paper is colour-stable, mould-made and acid-free, and is designed to withstand repeated washes without pulping or cockling. It is available in three surfaces: Hot Pressed, NOT and Rough. It is available in pads, blocks and sheets. Here is a link to an A4 glued pad. tinyurl.com/h7...
BRUSHES
I use mainly round synthetic brushes. You will need sizes 5, 7, 11 and 14. I recommend the following brand: PRO ARTE PROLENE Series 101 or 007
Prolene brushes use refined synthetic fibres specially developed by Pro Arte. A popular and versatile brush. Available in a full range of sizes and shapes. Click on link to see more.
PRO ARTE : PROLENE PLUS : SERIES 007 : ROUND : SIZE 7 £5.33
Improved colour holding and pointing properties. Set in a beautiful ferrule which is plated with gold. Polished teak handle completes the brush. Here is a link to a size 7.

PRO ARTE : PROLENE PLUS : SERIES 101 : ROUND : SIZE 7 £5

I made a mess out of this one. I wish I could save it. I hate throwing that expensive watercolor paper away.
Thank you for this! I’ve been struggling to paint a poppy and find this very helpful!
Diane, I can't seem to find the sketch on your website. Help please and thank you!
My ability to paint flowers has skyrocket by way of your style of teaching. Diane, you are the best!
Oh that’s wonderful Ann, so pleased for you! So kind of you to comment and I hope you continue to enjoy the channel ❤️
I wold not have thought to start with quinacridone gold for the petals. I'll see if I have a yellow that would work so I can try this. Thank you!
Dianne what brand of paints are you using please?
I can't find they name and information in description of the pencil you used. Please , will you share that with me? Love your work. Bethe
It’s this one: Staedtler Noris Karat Aquarell black watercolour pencil

You might live to regret saying that! How many ways are there to paint a poppy!!!!!
@@DianeAntoneStudiolol 😁
Just came across this Diane. I love the loose way you painted the poppies and I must try it on my quest to loose watercolor painting. I’ve just finished the squirrel family in their Fall houses. I’m pretty excited about it! Now, to see if I’m brave enough to share in the FB group. Hope you are all well❣️
Thanks Connie, glad you enjoyed it!
I loved the video, Mrs Antone. Thanks so much for sharing all the details. I'm certainly going to try it tomorrow. Hopefully it would be good enough to post on the group
Thanks so much for your kind comment, and I wish you all the best with your painting. Looking forward to seeing it on the Group!
Hi Diane, lovely video as always and going to try this one as well.
Did you ever try a Betta Fish? Couldn't find one in your list and would really like to see one "wet in wet", abstract style.
Thank you so much! I haven’t ever painted a betta fish but that’s a great idea!!
Absolutely beautiful! I love poppies so will definitely be trying this
Thanks so much 😊
Just lovely. I love poppies. Thanks for sharing this one with us.
My pleasure 😊
Thanks again Diane...I tried to find the free poppy sketches on your website but had no luck...can you help?
Hi Carol, thanks for asking about the poppy sketch! It will be up this morning - didn’t have time to do it yesterday due to the stormy weather!
Carole, did you find it? I can't seem to find it.
Love these poppies...how did you keep the Paynes gray from bleeding, unless you allowed the yellow to dry, which the video didn't say you let it dry??
Thanks! It was nearly dry at the inner edges by the time I put the grey in. The paper is quite absorbent and the grey was relatively thickly mixed so it didn’t really run. Hope that helps!
It does, thanks!!! Love everything you're doing and showing us how to do!!!
Thank you, Diane. Poppies and I, we kind of clash!
You'll get there! I used to feel that way, but with practice it gets easier. Simplification seems to be the key!
Makes it look easy enough for me to try. Encouraging!
You can do it Alice! Happy painting!
