Thank you so much Diana, I really really enjoyed watching you create these stunningly beautiful and unique Poppies I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤ and adore them. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Watching the Oldest… will need to try these poppies. I like how you lift pigment with paper towel, you have done the same with a rose, the best I have seen.
Ohhhhh I love seeing this, your first posted tutorial. I'm glad you talk now, however. I love your voice and your instruction and your stories. This is beautiful and I am anxious to try it. Every blessing!
Hello Diane. Thank you for giving me inspiration today. I want to make a couple cards before Mother’s Day. Your style speaks to me. Have a fab day. ✌️❤
Thank you so much Judit. It was a very raw and rough video - I was really just trying out the idea of starting to post videos on UA-cam and I put the phone on a pile of books and turned it on, and filmed what I was doing - had nothing in mind, I was on holiday in Spain and it was the start of the journey!
I do so enjoy your videos. And this one was easy enough, I mean mine don’t look like yours by any chance, but they are passable as poppies! I prefer your talking videos. I do have a vision problems, so reading your instructions as a challenge. But when I see it coming up, pause it and then I read it. I’m sure there are others who love the style of this one. 2:30 What am I doi
It's the first video i watched. And i thought: So I've not been doing things right. I copy from ready-made photos and it takes me an eternity to finish!
Hi! So happy that you found the video! I’m sure you haven’t been doing everything wrong, and my method here is just one technique that will help you to become a better looser painter! Also later today a new poppy video will be going up in a quite different style which you might also like, plus there are several others of mine if you go to my channel you will find them if you search for “poppies” or “poppy”. Have fun and happy painting!
Update: I tried this loose poppy tutorial for the first time and it came out great! I'm surprised that I love how it came out for my first attempt at loose poppies. I'm a severe perfectionist to a dangerous degree at times and needed to loosen up and just "play" and have fun with art. I'm so used to being so uptight with my art and feel the need to have a picture perfect sketch a lot of times, but this took me out of my comfort zone It took me much longer than 5 minutes, but I don't care. The process was fun and enjoyable and I seemed to be meditative when painting this. I also used mainly budget friendly, watercolor sets and decent quality watercolor paper I found at Walmart for $11 US dollars for 50 sheets. I added my own little touch to it with a shimmery watercolor set. You don't really notice the pretty glittery effect until it's dry. Now that it's dry, I can see the pretty loose, bright red poppies shimmering! All of your tutorials have been a success for me so far! I'm obsessed with your channel now and will be doing more. Expect lots of updates on your tutorials. Haha Thanks for the tutorial! When I get back to work and have some extra money, I'm going to be donating to some of your causes that I notice when you make tutorials. It's worth supporting you for many reasons. Off to do some more paintings!
Watching this video just made my day! I have been worrying and struggling with painting a poppy card for my partner...this totally helps me...thank you so much!
Diane, your videos are a gift to me. I just started watercolor painting, at age 65, and your relaxed and soothing manner is perfect for me. I am about to try to paint some poppies! Many thanks.
Hi Patricia, thank you for your lovely message. I’m so happy that you’re finding my videos helpful. Good luck with the poppies! They are such a lovely subject to paint 😍
Wow just wow! I'm new to watercolour and I'm finding it fun, but it's just not clicking for me. I've been trying a little bit of it all, wet on wet, dry on wet, x-ray vision style flowers, practicing every kind of leaf and I'm still not very good at those, lol, and you are the first artist I've watched, and I've watched many, that did a painting...I can get behind, if that makes any sense. I felt inspired and excited and actually felt, oh my gosh I can do this! Thank you, I'm so happy I found you! I subscribed and I'm excited to see more of your work. Happy Easter.
Hi Annette and welcome to the channel! So glad you discovered me and that you are enjoying what we do! I don’t doubt that you will be able to succeed in watercolour if you keep on practising! It is a demanding medium, and it would be wrong to say it was super easy. But it’s definitely worth a little bit of work to achieve the results you’re looking for. Paint along with us and you’ll get there! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you have when you’ve watched any of the videos. I always find the time to reply. Happy painting and again welcome to the channel!
This is the one for me. I Love it. So beautiful to gaze at and to enjoy for many moons to come. Thank you Diane for sharing this with us. I've said it so many times before, but you are simply amazing.
It is a joy to watch your paintings come to life. I painted a copy of your robin tutorial and it turned out beautifully. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I want to try this one. I've been watching your tutorials for a while and tried 3 or 4 watercolors from you, and they're successful, fun paintings. Funny enough, my dad framed at least 3 of the ones I've done from you because they came out so good to him. I decided to go to your oldest tutorials and do all the ones I'm interested in from oldest to newest. Sounds like a fun little challenge and I love your tutorials!
It looks so easy but I know it takes practice, practice, practice. So happy I found you on Facebook. I look forward to watching all your videos. Thanks for sharing your talent and for teaching.
Hi David, thanks so much for your lovely comment. It's true, lots of practice is needed, and if I have one tip to give anyone it's try to have a dedicated place to paint in where you don't have to keep putting your paints away every time you finish and that way you will get a lot more practice done! I know not everyone has the space, for years I didn't, but it is a blessing to be able to devote a whole table to a permanent "studio", isn't it! Good luck with your painting and thanks again for your support. Much appreciated x
Thank you so much for instructing your artwork. I was very intimidated to try this piece. Because it's so beautiful. But I tried anyway. And happy to say it turned out gorgeous. You're a great instructor!
I enjoyed this video very much. I love your loose style and the way you teach is inspiring. Your step by step robin featured in my Christmas cards in 2020, so thank you so much for your inspiration.😊
Thanks Mar! So glad you are enjoying the poppy videos! I’m working on more this week! That old one is possibly the most important as it got us started!
Hi Diane. I use a toothpick or a tooth flossing plastic stick thing to bring out the little hairy bits on poppies. You don't get pencil marks that way. Lovely easy painting by the way. Thank you! 😊
This is beautiful, Diane, and you make it look so easy. I painted your wet on wet robin and loved it, so I will definitely do this one too. Thanks for the techniques you shared. I just subscribed!
Thanks so much Yvonne and I’m very happy you enjoyed the video. As you can see, I am just starting my channel and am working hard to get new content up as quickly as possible, now the UA-cam controllers have begun to make my videos visible! I’ve got another robin in preparation at the moment, and if you take a look at the bees with flowers you’ll see a big improvement in the quality of the video - I’ve roped my daughter in to help now, as after losing her job in the pandemic she needs a new project! We would be very happy if you were to share my channel with anyone you know on facebook or elsewhere, as every little recommendation helps. I also sell my work on eBay and you’ll find it if you search seller:watercolourjoy. Just in case you’re interested in seeing other things I paint. Thanks again for your kind words and thank you for subscribing - lots more coming soon x
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the poppy video and hope you give it a try - and there are lots more on the channel to try out too! If you have any specific questions please do ask, I'm always happy to chat !
I just "found" this video from a few years ago - beautiful painting! I really liked this perspective of your painting - I ALWAYS stand up when I paint! However, I missed your voice and your instruction - I'd MUCH rather hear you and your "wildlife" than music and captions on the screen!
Thank you so much for being appreciative and tolerant! That was one of our first couple of videos when we didn't have a clue what we were doing! The UA-cam gurus all say that you have to get started by putting up videos before you have any idea how to run a channel, so that's what we did! Over the last year we have tried to refine and hone the presentation to what people want. Plus, when we did that one we were away from home, in Spain for the winter and we didn't have any access to nature. So it was music or nothing!! Anyhow, so glad you found it and enjoyed it!
Thanks Lavinia, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m not sure what kind of watercolour paper you are currently using, but if you need any recommendations or opinions on what you are thinking of getting I’m happy to chip in with my two cents worth of advice. I’m here to answer any questions you have x
I’m loving your poppies, however I have a very hard time painting this loose. I will definitely give it a try, but not sure they will looks like poppies when I’m finished. Probably something very abstract! Nell
Thanks Angela, appreciate your comments so much! To tell you the truth I have never found poppies particularly easy! And the harder I try, the worse they get!
I thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial, thank you. I was just a little perturbed that the stems of the upper plants disappeared before they reached the ground. Sorry to sound picky but I thought all comments would be welcome. I shall look for the next lesson.
Ha ha! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I see what you mean about the stems, you’re probably right! Nothing I can do about that particular video but I’ll certainly bear it in mind next time!
Art is very subjective. What bothers you will appeal to somebody else. I am not bothered by that in the slightest. In fact I think I prefer it when Stems don’t all reach the bottom of the page. Poppies in a field would not have stems all finishing in a straight line. 🤷🏻♀️
Hello Diane I’ve just seen your comment on Russell Brand’s channel & was sorry to hear about your business. It’s great you have your bm channel here. I have bought some watercolour pencils & paint & beginners book so have just subscribed to you. This looks so interesting &!also very soothing. I wish you success for the future ❤️
Thanks so much Kathy, you can’t imagine how much it means to me to hear you say these things. I am so glad you are going to take up painting, you won’t regret it! Glad to have you on board, and look forward to your comments as we go along xxx
Thank you so much! The long-haired brush is called a “rigger” in the UK and a “Script Liner” in the US. Here is an example of one on Amazon. You can get them in several sizes, it’s good to have a small selection. Hope this helps. www.amazon.com/dp/B0043G7LRC/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_UeF9Fb6V5W50J
Hi Diane, I just discovered your youtube channel and love your very relaxing style and tutorials! I am a very beginner and I'm wondering how to keep my watercolor paper (Arches cold-pressed 300gsm) from curling after painting on it. Thank you!
Hi Mary, and welcome to the channel! So glad you found us and I hope you’re enjoying the videos! The best way to keep your paper flat is to stretch it, using paper tape. I have a video that shows how to do that. Even good quality paper benefits from being stretched, and give you a much better surface to paint on once it has been stretched.. take a look at the video, and see what you think. It takes a few minutes to do and you have to think ahead but are usually stretch several sheets in advance. I almost always paint on stretch paper. It really makes a difference to the quality of your work. There are different opinions from different artists and some people don’t want to spend the time doing this. You can also dampen the back of the paper after you’ve painted on it and iron it, or put it under a stack of books but I have never found those techniques to work particularly well.
Beautiful painting, the music's beautiful where to get that from? I found you from the channel where they talk about lateral eye movement and how it helps. I was tearing up watching you watercolor because when I was a little girl my dad used to help me draw maps every week for school. Each week our teacher would pick a state or a country that was in the news and we had to draw it. My dad helped me with water coloring because it's not easy to do. I always got A's. That's what I learned from him was you have to wet the paper first just like you did. Thank you for sharing your time and talents. It sure brought me back more profoundly than I would have expected.
Hi Samantha thanks so much for your comment, very touching story about your dad. I can relate to that because my dad also encouraged me in my art as best he could although he was no artist himself! I’m so glad you found my channel, and I hope you enjoy watching many more of my videos. As far as the music goes, I’ll have to check to see where that particular track came from. Our most recent videos we get the music from an online company called epidemic sound but I can’t remember exactly what’s on the video that you watched. I will check it out! Thanks again for being here, and I’m so glad that you enjoyed discovering my channel. ❤️
@@DianeAntoneStudio thank God for our wonderful Dads. I am so glad you're Dad had you pursue art even though he wasn't an artist. What business did you have before the epidemic? And thank you for finding the song, take your time. I believe everything is everything meaning even a cook is a chemist, because if the ingredients sway one way the dish becomes bread if the ingredients way another way it becomes cake and if it was sways even further it becomes pasta. Although I try to be gluten-free gluten is a only analogy I could think of visually that would display what I mean. Whatever your dad did or does for a living, I bet he was actually an artist in his own way. You should maybe start selling your photos in case somebody wants to buy them online. Maybe link it to a store. The mouse one is so cute. There is a lady online called Santa surfing or beach broadcast who loves squirrels if you check out her channel oftentimes now she is on rumble but she will link it That's only if you want to make a business out of it but if you just want to do paintings for your enjoyment that's fine too. Maybe she can link to your store if you send her a painting of a squirrel, she's all about squirrels. She has a big audience. Take care and have a great day okay? Hugs.
Hi Donna, thanks very much I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! I'm hoping soon to have more of a structured course available for people to follow, perhaps on patreon. Is that the kind of thing you would be interested in?
Donna Jasie meanwhile you will have discovered the coming on for 100 videos on my channel here on UA-cam I imagine? That should keep you busy while I work on that! Let me know if there's any subjects you would like to see tutorials for!
Well I finally found the community tab!!Geez!! I never thought to click your photo! This is great!! Thank you!!

So this is where you started!!! It took me awhile, but I’m glad I found you! learning tons!!! Thanks!
What amazing free and fearless painting! Watching the poppies grow and form was such a treat--thank you!
As being very new to this craft I appreciate seeing the off screen rinsing, color to color, wipe, rinse, dry brush, mop, etc. thank you.
Thanks so much for your comments. Glad you’re enjoying the tutorials!
Gorgeous and looks so easy.
I keep practicing! ❤

What a wonderful project, so pleased to be of assistance to your worthy cause. Have fun!
Update: I tried this loose poppy tutorial for the first time and it came out great! I'm surprised that I love how it came out for my first attempt at loose poppies. I'm a severe perfectionist to a dangerous degree at times and needed to loosen up and just "play" and have fun with art. I'm so used to being so uptight with my art and feel the need to have a picture perfect sketch a lot of times, but this took me out of my comfort zone
It took me much longer than 5 minutes, but I don't care.

❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful! Will be trying this very soon.
Thanks Miriam, glad you enjoyed it! More videos coming soon - please subscribe to be notified!!!! X
Hello Diane I’ve just seen your comment on Russell Brand’s channel & was sorry to hear about your business. It’s great you have your bm channel here. I will have a go myself.
Thank you
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting!
This is a gorgeous painting. What is the very long haired brush that you used for the stems?
Thank you so much! The long-haired brush is called a “rigger” in the UK and a “Script Liner” in the US. Here is an example of one on Amazon. You can get them in several sizes, it’s good to have a small selection. Hope this helps. www.amazon.com/dp/B0043G7LRC/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_UeF9Fb6V5W50J
Thank you! I just discovered your channel and will return often
Hi Mary welcome to the channel! Good to have you on board and look forward to your commenting! Happy painting!
Hugs.
And this is how I found you!
do only wet the flowers when you start or each time you change colors?
Just discovered your art and am blown away by your work. Do you have tutorials is there any way I can join or see them? Thank you so much.
Hi Donna, thanks very much I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel! I'm hoping soon to have more of a structured course available for people to follow, perhaps on patreon. Is that the kind of thing you would be interested in?
@@DianeAntoneStudio absolutely thank you for your response Diane I’m looking forward to learning from you.
Donna Jasie meanwhile you will have discovered the coming on for 100 videos on my channel here on UA-cam I imagine? That should keep you busy while I work on that! Let me know if there's any subjects you would like to see tutorials for!
Красиво
You’re welcome!
