    It's wonderful that you two are spending so much time in the medieval city of Krakow! I actually live in Krakow as a full-time student attending Jagiellonian University - the most prestigious university in Poland (established 1364 by King Casimir III the Great). Its oldest buildings near the main square are definitely worth a visit and perfect for photography. Additionally, there is a place called Tytano: Kraków's Urban Lifestyle Complex - an old cigarette factory converted into multiple outdoor and indoor restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Some areas of the complex even have outdoor modern-art exhibits produced by locals. If you need any recommendations, just let me know! Enjoy your stay. :)

    Another beautiful vlog! Even though I'm all Team Warsaw (there is a competition between the old and the new capital), I like to come to Kraków once in a while, it has its own unique, a bit detached, otherwordly atmosphere, especially in the autumn... I remember visiting friends back in 2014 and we ended up on a roof of an abandoned house just a block away from St Mary's! The views were unforgetable. Then we rode the urban bikes on the banks of Vistula in the middle of the night... Kraków also preserves a bit of Bohemian / fin de siecle lifestyle from the late 19th / early 20th century - some nice Art Nouveau works of art like the stained glass windows in Church of St Francis at Plac Wszystkich Świętych (with Stanisław Wyspiański pavilion just right by its side, with more stained glass works by this great artist, feel free to look him up), you can find this atmosphere in places like Jama Michalika on Floriańska Street, Absynt Cafe on Miodowa 28 or Bunkier Cafe by the Planty park, near Szczepański Square. I also recommend to see some Polish films taking place partially in Kraków, like A Double Life of Veronique by Krzysztof Kieślowski or The Wedding by Andrzej Wajda (a fin de siecle, full of alegories wedding night of a Krakowian higher class artist and a lower class countryside girl). Can't wait for the vlogs to come!

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 років тому

      Haha well we will have to see if Team Warsaw is all its cracked up to be! (sure we'll love it). Those are some great suggestions, thanks so much, added to our list to dig into further.

    If you're still in Krakow, don't miss the barbican on the north end of that park, which is encircling the city center - it's the only remaining section of the city walls which are now replaced with the park, encircling the city center all the way from and to the castle in the south.
    PS: I gotta: "Sun's about to sit." Which is only fair as being the Sun is really exhausting and one has to take a break from all that standing. :-D

  • @mmarcin3982

    When you eventually head north, make sure you visit the largest castle in the world (by land area) in Malbork, Gdańsk - except from all the touristy things, check out the shipyard, this is where the locals hang out (100cznia and Ulica Elektrykow for alternative music, amazing beer and street food), as well as Garnizon in Wrzeszcz. Nearby town - Sopot (30 mins from Gdansk) cannot be missed - it is a beautiful spa town with a very chilled vibe and the longest wooden pier in Europe. I would recommend staying over in Wrzeszcz. Looking forward to your videos :) I personally do not like being in Gdansk during St Dominics Fair, which attracts (literally) millions of people each year - the city becomes so crowded, most of the places are full and I already got a vibe you like it slow paced. However, Gdansk is always the busiest during the summer time.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 років тому

Visit Nowa Huta(new steelworks) which was a industrial suburb on the fringe of krakow, built & designed by the Communists with a central square ( albeit small) . Poland is has one cheap clothing as well. Visit a Reserved or Cropp clothing store ( Poland’s answer to H&M) great quality clothing as well.

    Are you staying just in Kraków? You like more local, slow pace places so why don`t you visit country side? I`ve noticed on many travel vlogs whenever they visit Poland it`s always biggest cities. I get it it`s easier for english speakers cause you can communicate without a problem. Poland has so much to offer outside of Kraków.

    3;80 is one way or 40min with transition ticket (you can change as many trams and buses during those 40min since validating). For 3 stops you really overpaid, as there is a 20min ticket for 2;80 that will allow you to make a trip from Plac bohaterów Getta (square of the ghetto heroes) to Dietla, where you took of. (You walked one tram stop actually to enjoy the view i guess, as lines 24 or 13 would drive you directly to Poczta Główna tram stop). About buying tickets inside the tram, you have to have coins on you to use automate with tickets, or you can scan qr code with your chosen ticket if you got app on your smartphone.
    This park around old town is called Planty. In late XVIII century (or was it early XIX?) local nobility (and citizens) issued a work of dismantling old city fortifications, leaving only small portion of it. The whole moat that was surrounding old walls was burred and turned into city park, so you were basically standing in the middle of old moat (or on a bridge that crossed it).
    1;50 is a reasonable price for that Krakowian pretzel.
    The booths 3:03 were on Small market (Mały rynek), that is right next to Main square. You have happened upon one of the festivals/fairs that take place there. I think you have been during Hungarian days, from the looks of it.
    Those building are actually smaller then they used to be. The current street level is... higher then it use to be, so basically what you see as ground floor now would be first floor above ground in middle ages.
    Basylica Mariacka (St's Mary Basilica) do not stand on Main square but on Plac Mariacki (Mariacki plaza).
    This old clock (at 6:45) on Main square is actually a Town hall tower, were city council were residing in earlier ages. It is a museum now.
    At 7:23 you are walking on Mariacki plaza, with Basilica on the left. In front of you is St's Barbaba church, belonging to Jesuits order.
    In Sukiennice (Cloth house), this huge building in the middle on the Main square, on the side with Adam Mickiewicz statue, is an entrance to Rynek Underground museum. It was opened after archaeological excavation on (or in) Main Square. So I'm sorry, but you have missed quite a bit of an exhibition, that shows how Kraków has risen it's street level thru the ages.
    www.mhk.pl/exhibitions/6
    Best wishes from Cracow. And thank You for visiting.

    • @Diveyl

      Unfortunately it is not so good as 10 years ago. Maybe the sort that goes for export is, but today a brother brand Lech, that belongs to same concern, and is made were Tyskie was used to be made, taste most likely like Tyskie should be tasting. But that is what older generation will tell you, as younger ones have no idea what they have lost.

      Definitely worth the visit. Most of the stuff we've shown in our first 2 (and soon to be 3rd) vlogs are all within 10-15 minutes walking distance of each other, you can see and do loads.

    TRy to check out Łódź one day, places like tiny Surindustriale, or the old fabrics, cool places. The city has changed a lot in past years, now it starts to grow as a design and art center as well as global IT Support land :) There are lots of new buildings, so modern style meets the 19th century. Maybe light move festival this autumn? Google it and you will love it ;)
    Also one I just discovered this year, Ojców, Pieskowa Skała and this area, it's close to Kraków, a great place for some outdoor activities, amazing The palace in Pieskowa Skała was renewed few years back and it is amazing. Well, there are many more to go actually ;)

    If you've got a few days more in Crocow you should visit Wieliczka Salt Mine (10 miles from Cracow with easy access by bus) and eat more Polish traditional food :). If you also want to better know the history of WWII better visit Auschwitz (1,5 hour by bus from Cracow) - but remember, it's pretty overwhelming experience... You also have beauty Tatry mountains like 2 hours south, but we've gotta "long weekend" right now, so it's gonna be busy :). And, welcome to Poland :).

    It is the largest medieval square in Europe. The largest square is located in Warsaw. This is Plac Defilad. There, in the middle, stands the Palace of Culture and Science. The destroyed city center was not rebuilt. XD

    In many lists is Parade Square in Warsaw on 1st place as the largest one and other sources mention different squares on top as the largest in europe. There is a big problem with definition what is a square...

    • @LucretiusEldritch
      @LucretiusEldritch 6 років тому +2

      Erwin Rommel it's the biggest medieval square

    • @chemgym
      @chemgym 6 років тому

      Methedrine Lovegod thats not true. There is a lot of bigger medieval squares in europe for example this square has 3.79 ha an Charles square in Prague has size 7 ha so 2 times larger so its just myth.

    If you want to visit some cool Polish cities and places let me recommend you:
    1. Sandomierz
    2. Zakopane - not the town itself but mountains around it (you have to taste "oscypek" :-D)
    3. Poznań
    4. Gdańsk
    5. Wrocław
    6. Lwów (Polish city in Ukraine)
    And of course so much more
    Best Polish meals that I recommend:
    1. Pierogi (especially "ruskie")
    2. Gołąbki - Polish sushi
    3. Żurek
    4. Knedle with plum
    5. Placki ziemniaczane (potato crumpet?)
    6. Many pastries - especially with fruits.
    I hope you'll come back (If u left by now) :-D
