    The Cooler Master H500M case is different from both the H500P and H500P Mesh, the latter of which we held in high regard in our review. The H500M takes many of the positive traits of the H500P Mesh, including its default airflow configuration (being mesh-ventilated), but also adds ARGB LEDs and a couple of new embellishments -- like more tempered glass.
    Our Cooler Master H500M review compares it to the H500P, H500P Mesh, NZXT H500, 500D, and everything else named "500." We talk about the best PC cases for gaming builds in 2018, presenting airflow benchmarks for each.

      Steve. What would be the best config for best airflow with h500m. I'm looking for the brightest highest 140mm air flow argb fans for case cooling and either a AIO for cpu or the best air cooler for cpu ?
      The system i want to build is, 3 ARGB light strips Corsair and Asus aura sync or NZXT and Asus aura, X299, 3.5GHz 10 core 2066 cpu, 3866 MHz Trident RGB RAM, RGB PSU, RGB SSD, my own 1080 Ti gpu but upgrading to future RTX SLI so is a 1000W PSU overkill for all this with SLI ?

      Yeah, but GN's video here went up the same time as other reviews, which suggests either GN got a review sample, or they bought it themselves and got it on time to be ready for embargo. Someone wrote a comment suggesting the former, and GN gave it a heart, so it's safe to assume CoolerMaster stopped being dicks and is talking to GN again.

      Here's the thing about some tech companies. They know that the costumer is the one buying their products. And if they fail to provide what they need, they wont spend money. Apple doesnt have costumers, tho. They have sheep, who religiously buy their products, even if it doesnt fit their need. It's a fashion statement, not a technology one. If you want to purchase a product that is technological advanced to explain their price point, you have to look to other brands.

    I know your test bench is air cooling focused but I feel like Cooler Master has stepped up their game with a few additional features for watercooling focused builds you didn't mention. The gpu sag support, pump mount, rad support and reservoir mount come to mind. Those might be enough to justify the extra $50 amongst your viewers. I had to watch a couple other reviews to even know about those features, might be worth mentioning in the future.
    Love your channel, keep up the good work.

    It's the little things that make me really love gn reviews, loads of people do benchmarks and general reviews but I find most don't show other cases scores (or have those awesome graph timing bars). I suppose most don't even really do standardised testing so if they put them all together it still wouldn't help. I can look at pictures of a case for myself if I want to judge aesthetics but good cooling performance and build quality testing keep me coming back.

      I just want to mention some cases here:
      Enthoo Evolv Shift X
      Lian-Li PC-O11 Air
      Corsair Crystal 570X RGB
      Fractal Designs Define R6
      Just in case. Those may be too expensive maybe but they will likely be on sale every now and then. Evolv Shift, 460X RGB and Meshify C is cheaper.

      Johan Krüger-Haglert I did a build for my bf with the 570X RGB such a beautiful case. I was leaning towards the Lian Li PC-011 when it came out because wow why not aesthetics were great, but just in time this H500M is a tank stole the show. The Enthoo evolve shift didn’t impress me enough with the cooling to consider. The Fractal R6 definitely a good choice just not my style. All great mentions and the 460X just ain’t roomy enough for my build.

    Anyone that has this case, I highly recommend you remove the HD cages and the front half of the bottom shroud, this opens up the bottom half of the front bottom 200mm fan and creates an internal ramp for airflow to flow to your GPU intake fans. This really helps to lower GPU temps. I really wish GN tested this arrangement.

    • @ilyShifty
      @ilyShifty 2 роки тому

      wym? where?

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- 2 роки тому +2

      @@ilyShifty the bottom shroud consists of two halfs. One half covers the HD cages, the other covers the PSU. I really recommend removing the HD cages (if you're not using them), and the shroud that covers the HD cages. Leave the PSU shroud. What this does is uncover the bottom half of the lower front 200mm fan, so it blows air into the main chamber of the case. Because of the way the PSU shroud is shaped, it creates a ramp for the airflow from that bottom 200mm fan to flow directly into the fans intake of your GPU. This helps lower GPU temps, and creates much better and more even airflow pattern inside the entire case. If you need additional storage space, there are still 4 mounting areas for 3.5" SSD's left in the case, even after you do this mod. There's 2 on top of the PSU shroud, and 2 more on the rear panel behind the motherboard. This air mod basically unlocks the full cooling potential of the case, but removes your ability of mounting regular platter hard drives in the case.

    • @ilyShifty
      @ilyShifty 2 роки тому

      @@BigBear-- thank you so much💯

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- 2 роки тому

      @@ilyShifty there are a few other things or acccessories that I found really helpful in setting up my case.
      1. RGB extension splitter for both of the front 200mm fans and the rear 140mm exhaust fan. Why i needed this is explained below.
      2. I wanted to bypass the fan controller that came with the case, and be able to both control fan speed profiles and RGB directly from my motherboard. Thats why I needed the extension for the front 200mm fans, and rear exhaust so it can easily reach any connector on my motherboard and be easy to cable manage.
      3. Reason is I didn't like the asymmetrical look of having RGB fans in the front of the case, but nothing in the rear. Cooler Master makes a 140mm fan with ARGB that perfectly matches the style of fan and ARGB of the 200mm fans in front. This fan will also have higher airflow than the stock non-rgb rear fan that came with the case, and is a bit quieter. Its relatively cheap, I got it for like $14 or $15.
      4. The only other thing I got was a GPU support. The one that comes with the case, because of the way its positioned, I couldnt reach an area of my GPU to support without hitting a fan. Or it wouldn't reach at all. So I got one of those supports that are a two piece pole with a magnetic base, and a sliding support on the pole. It works and looks great. (This was setup with a Gigabyte X570 Master mobo, and a Asus ROG Strix 2070 Super).
      5. I also got custom sleaved extension cables for the 24pin, and the GPU power. But thats just for looks, so u can take it or leave it.
      Let me know if you got any other questions. Good luck!

      @sand9577 Рік тому

      @@BigBear-- I'm doing the exact same thing as you. When I saw this case it really doesn't make sense to cover half of the bottom fan with a shroud and blow air into a space that doesn't need it. Granted, I still have a 3.5" hard drive what will have to be cloned into a SSD, but in the mean time I think I can jury rig a vertical mount on the side panel of the case for the 3.5" drive.
      I also removed the fan hub and used an ARGB splitter to control the front fans and my ROG Power supply...whose lightning isn't even visible on the power supply shroud cutout, but damn it! I bought a kickass PSU with RGB and by Kratos, I'm going to use it.
      One last thing I did; since this case is meant to be my forever case so screw it, throw more money at it. I removed the rear exhaust fan and installed three 120mm ARGB intake fans on the top, and used their ARGB controller to...turn off the lights, this case is going to be under my desk so no point shining light into a place no one is going to see.
      I haven't finished my build yet, but I think with those things: WAY better cable management, similar or better airflow and a hell lot more of space for HDD than the Torrent, this case is a serious contender to be a chart topper.
      I think Cooler master could issue a revision on the H500P Mesh, with the power supply shroud like on the H500M, ditch the rear fan and add them to the top and it will make the Fractal Torrrent irrelevant.

    Another difference between the M and the P you didn't mention is the IO. The h500m has 4 USB 3.0 and 1 3.1 type C instead of the 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 of the h500p, I could totally see some people considering the M because of that.
    Btw, did Cooler master send you this case or they are still angry about the original h500p review?

    As an owner of the original Haf series cases I think this model is finally a worthy successor. I will admit that I have a soft spot for coolermaster cases since they were the first ones I used when I started building computers. Glad they have made the improvements and now I can feel ok about buying it not only for nostalgic reasons. I'm hoping that a worthy successor comes out for the Cosmos series eventually as well. Wasn't super impressed with their reboot of that case. Hopeful though, since it looks like they are finally starting to listen to customer feedback.

    So close to perfect for me.. I am an original HAF owner and have been wanting a good replacement for years now. I like the redesign on the front over the look of the 500P.. but here is what i would change..
    -Put steel back instead of the glass
    -Mesh on top instead of glass
    -Use the original top fan bracket over the redesign.
    That's it.. Like i said almost perfect for me.

    "flathead" screw makes perfect sense for a case considered tool less because it can be opened with anything from a coin to a spoon or whatever you have laying around, unlike a phillips head. thumbscrews would compromise aesthetics which sadly is more important than both performance and practicality for some so that would not have been an option =) The panel mounting system is far from the best i've seen (o-11 dynamic comes to mind among others that are better =) but screwtype should not be counted as a detractor for the simple reason that it IS a flathead =)

    Quick note: The PSU shroud was removable in the OG 500p model, same as now. It's the mounting mechanism that changed in the Mesh and 500m, where you can mount the PSU to the back plate and then push it in the rear of the case.
    Also you can replace the screw that latches the window to the case, you just use a flathead and a phillips (one on both sides), and take out the phillips and then the flathead will fall out and you can then go to home depot or wherever with the flathead screw and find something that is the same size. Obviously not the best solution.

This is a lot closer to what the marketing was calming the H500P was supposed to be. The H500P Mesh and H500M are Cooler Master begrudgingly listening to Steve. I mean yes other people ripped on them too but there were plenty of others who didn't go a savage. Why on earth would I want a glass panel on both sides? Look, here's the other side of my case, which has a ton of metal and some cables, isn't this cool!!??? Other than that, the case is fairly nice with the mesh front.

      I always thought the mesh front made it look like garbage. Almost the entire appeal of the case where those 200mm rgb fans. Thankfully this case has more ventilation on the sides so only equates to approximately 2-4°C delta over the mesh. For me, that's worth the $50 alone.

    I was extremely interested in this case until I found out that you need to remove both side panels and the top-left cable shroud panel in order to take off the front panel. There is absolutely no way I'm doing that every time I want to clean the dust filters, especially when the H500P Mesh allows you to pop the front panel off on its own. Why would you regress like this, Cooler Master? So disappointing.

    Such a great case; I’ve been waiting to see this properly released and reviewed since it was first announced. If no one releases anything better before my next build, then this will be its home. :) Those larger mesh sections that also provide increased distance between the panels and fans look amazing. I also prefer the other changes they made to the aesthetics from the H500P and H500P Mesh. For me, it’s all about airflow, functionality and size, and aesthetics; this case appears to deliver on all counts.
    As for the rear cable cover plates, I’d definitely try to use them if I wasn’t facing that right side toward the wall to allow for a cleaner look through the right tempered glass panel. That said, I'd probably choose to face the right side toward the wall to show off the components of the build.

    Regardless of how many variants you have tested and "moan and groan" about for whatever reason - too much ventilation, not enough ventilation, too heavy, too light; (hopefully this will be the last 500 series we ever see) - crud off the cuff statement - go back to your pet, the Lian Li or Phantex tower of which both I hate anyway - put some 5,000 rpm 300mm fans throughout the case into whatever you think is worth it. This H500M is the case for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My advice is for you to just turn your home air conditioner down to 16 degrees C. That will take care of the beloved AMBIENT. What temp do you expect of this thing and its CPU and GPU? Two 360 rads and a 140 rad and an additional fan intake from the floor should keep most of the Video and Movie watchers happy. I'm just curious of what you see as satisfactory cooling on this priced case???
