Thanks man, my os bricked itself doing a update and i didnt have a backup. This helped a lot. The only thing is that i didnt get a message when i selected the drive and clicked next, it just went straight into installing. Also when windows installed it created the windows.old folder but it was empty but it kept all my original files where they were

but what about the app settings such as in python or matlab or other software that all these will be stayed as it is even if resetting from win10 to win11? so how can I do reset or reinstall with keeping software and pass in addition to files as well?

just type notepad on cmd during windows installation and choose open file and use the GUI explorer to copy desired files to an external drive?

Will reinstalling with keeping files keep files that are on the HDD? My system and windows is on another SSD disk

    • @memstechtips
      @memstechtips  3 місяці тому +1

Yes the other HDD's files will be untouched, as long as you don't delete any partition on it.

Have you tried this method in combination with your ventoy and unattend method to reinstall/upgrade to the "cleanest install". That sounds like a nice way to finally move to windows 11.

Sir, is there any way to amend bios setting if my laptop keyboard is not functioning (especially the ENTER key) ? I can boot into bios but the legacy mode setting is disable, so it cant detach my usb pendrive & usb keyboard. I have tried changed the laptop keyboard to a new one but the result remain same (ie certain keys & ENTER key are not working). Since the ENTER key cant be used, i cant amend the bios setting to recognize any external keyboard & pendrive. Appreciate if you could enlighten me on this matter.

I have to say, that's a very weird one. Even after replacing the keyboard you still have the same issue? Are you sure you have access to all of the settings in the bios, you might need to enter a Administrator BIOS password to get access to all of the settings?

I think its better to use the upgrade (with the option to keep everything) instead.

This should also teach the lesson to NOT store your data in a folder which MS thinks is a great idea.
No Data, nothing, should be stored on you boot-partition (the only partition less experienced hackers will get access to)
Try to avoid installing applications on your boot drive either. This installers are as dumb as MS and put some files into C:\ProgramData, it's a big mess.
Because of "Multi-User" ? Its a PC where 'P' means personal - never share your PC with a (girl-)friend, or strange things will happen.
Yes, for companies it might be different, but they are not the target of this video.
There was a time where we could do simple installs just by unzipping a file and ready to go.
Now we have installers not asking for an install folder, we only are allowed have to click next-next-next-next, and don't find our own files anymore - great development it is.

I remember trying to install programs on a separate drive other than my boot drive but still there were files installed on the system drive that were needed for the program to run.
      Has that changed?
If not, then there‘s actually no difference in installing a program on the system drive or a separate drive when it comes to reinstalling windows as even with installed programs on a separate drive those essential files on the system drive get lost in the reinstalling process which breaks the programs installed on the separate drive and prevents them from running/working.
No offense, just a question out of curiosity as I‘m about to do a clean windows reinstall in the near future for a computer that is used for working as well as gaming and maybe streaming.
So if there would be the actual possibility of installing programs on a separate drive that keep their function even after a windows reinstall I‘d absolutely install any program on a separate, program dedicated, drive. 🙂✌🏻

@@Canadien1860It has not changed. Programs are always tightly intertwined with Windows regardless of their installation folder.

That's a lot of work for nothing, considering none of the previously installed programs will work. And if people still keep their data on Desktop, they should know better.
