      Actually, Levi’s survival was pretty typical for the Ackermans. Not even that noteworthy of a feat at that point of the story, really.
      Like how Mikasa was chopping wood and doing sit-ups not long after her ribs were fractured, and how Kenny was alive after being slashed through the abdomen, scalded in a fiery cave-in, and left bleeding out for hours.

    First of all, it doesn't look like he was shot in the chest but rather in the shoulder. Gabi aimed for his arm because that was the arm he was using to aim at the boat. So not a fatal shot at all.
    So my thinking is that Floch held onto the boat with his ODM and passed out from the loss of blood on the trip to the mainland. That's why he takes so long to get out of the water. Also the way he shoots isn't really aiming at anything in particular but more just in the general direction of the scouts. It looks more accidental that he shot the fuel tank with collateral damage then intentionally aiming for the plane. What was his goal then you might ask? The fact that he looked disorientated and half dead means he probably just wanted to use his last ounce of strength left to deal any sort of damage to the team regardless of where he was shooting. In that condition he couldn't exactly aim very well at anything.
    Hange felt like because she couldn't come up with a solution outside of Eren and Zeke's plans she felt responsible for their failure to convince Eren out of the rumbling. Her sacrifice was her way of atoning for her mistakes as commander and also because Hange wanted to go out badass. (a very Hange moment) Sending the entire team would've been a risk at losing more of them. Wouldn't have been a wise move at all.

    Hangs died because she caught on fire from the proximity to so many wall titans. She was plenty skilled for the job, and mikasa probably would’ve suffered the same fate. Furthermore, the wall titans are still titans, even if all they had done is walk, they would still be able to act in some way to fight other titans, hence why it would’ve ended badly for the others trying to fight thousands of colossal titans, because the other issue is that mindless pure titans have no end to their stamina. They can fight forever

      @@emberlynnauguste832 This was explained in the show. Armin and Reiner both offered to be the ones to do it, but Hange accurately pointed out that they needed to conserve their strength for the fight with Eren. Reiner has even said that he can transform about two times before losing energy to do a third, and he ended up needing both transformations in the final battle. Armin can only do so once, so they definitely needed to conserve that for the final battle. Pieck could've helped out, but Armin and Hange (or even us) didn't know of her jaw titan's infinite transformations at that point so they didn't think of that. And ewven if they did, what's Pieck's jaw titan going to do against an army of colossals? There was no guarantee she'd end up surviving the encounter, and they definitely needed her in the final battle as well.

    I think the argument that they should have sent mikasa or all of the alliance to fight off the titans to be pretty unfounded as the whole point of Hange going alone was to conserve resources. She explicitly states none of the shifter can do it since they would use up titan strength and let say they send in mikasa, the steam literally damages her odm gear to the point it explodes. Sure maybe she survives but if she is injured and her gear is broken they stand much lower chance of mission success. If more of the alliance was sent to help like jean or conny the exhaustion and damage to equipment would not be worth it.

    • @collateral8920

      Look at it like a numbers game. 1 hange needed to kill (let’s say) 20 titans to delay the rumbling. She is able to do this in (let’s say) 5 minutes. Now image 6 scouts all go in, all they have to do is kill 20 titans In less than 5 minutes, let’s say less than 3 to avoid having to sustain burns. It’s still also technically the same amount of gas and blades and no titan shifters would have to use titan powers odm gear works fine

    • @hardboilednut8215
      @hardboilednut8215 11 місяців тому +140

      @@collateral8920 The assumption that she needed to only delay for 5 minutes is incorrect because they make clear that they could barely weld it in 1 hour plus fueling. Let be generous and say they did it in even half the time. Now to the titans. As they are marching they are said to move faster than horses and the scout see them when they are at the mountain. I think it is very reasonable to believe that they skipped a lot of scene around because we don’t want to see hange realistically travel 10 minutes on odm gear to engage the titans and fend them off for the 20 minutes it takes to get there. She clearly isn’t fighting for just the five minutes she is on screen as the workers didn’t weld and fuel in five minutes. With all scouts travel time plus fight time, yes a significant amount of resources would be drained. 20 Colossal titans in 5 mins is also incredibly unrealistic accounting for 4 titans per minute or a titan every 20 seconds. TLDR the show probably cut out a lot of the time she spent stalling and using up her odm resources so it would not be optimal

    • @hardboilednut8215
      @hardboilednut8215 11 місяців тому +17

      Yes the argument can be made that she can’t survive in the titan heat for more than 5 or so minutes but unlike armins stall, she doesn’t need to constantly be fighting titans, she could take a minute away to regroup and the reason she can’t at the end is because the titans have gone too far not allowing her to regroup and again Jean mikasa and armin probably could have helped and made it more efficient but we don’t have the gas for everyone to do so. We know resources are limited because she only uses 2 thunder spears. She could have brought 20 and survived but they needed to conserve.

    3:13 The bullet was in his shoulder, not chest.
    5:51 He did hit someone; that engineer guy seen at 5:40 was hit in his shoulder. Floch was just firing randomly, and the fact that 3 entire shots hit the fuel tank was just luck.
    6:27 ?? Why? Putting everyone's life at risk would be completely unnecessary when just one person was enough to delay the wall titans until takeoff. They needed as much strength as possible on the plane to take on Eren, so any of their Titan powers would be foolish to risk losing.
    And Mikasa's Ackerman OPness is just as valuable. Your word "probably" is doing a lot of work at 6:40. She would have to do all that, *and* make it onto the plane while it is taking flight. It's not a risk worth taking.
    I agree with the main point, Floch staying in the water overnight doesn't make much sense... but there are problems with the rest of what you said in this vid.
    *Edit:* I have realised that Floch being covered in water makes complete sense.
    He didn't stay in the water, but clung to the side of the boat where noone would notice him. He stayed there overnight to minimize the time on land, where he might run into someone.
    In the morning we see water drops on the floor, so he had recently come ashore.
    The alliance are putting on ODM gear on the dock next to the boat, so he had to let go of the boat and swim further away before getting back on land.
    He didn't want to take action until the rumbling was almost there (otherwise they would have plenty of time to repair the plane). I take back my previous point about him firing randomly, I think he was aiming for the plane but was so fatigued that the recoil made his shots wild.

      All they need is to buy enough time to fix the plane. It doesn't require risking all of their lives to slow the colossals down. Even if the colossals won't burn people to death, the team lack the tools for long-distance communicate. The argument of sending the whole squad after the wall titans is straight up goofy, hange literally caught on fire by being near the wall titans for too long
    They rack up enough casualties and near death experiences when around normal titans, they have no reason to assume anyone will survive attacking the wall titans, sending everyone would be a profoundly stupid move that would at best buy them a few minutes and leave everyone exhausted, covered in burns and short on gas and at worst would end with the entire squad dead
    And floch probably just clung to the ship with his odm gear like we’ve seen people do on the walls the entire series
    And when they arrived he probably just disengaged it and fell into the water cause he was exhausted

Strangly 3/6 of the shots hit the fuel tank which is defintly strange with the pullback of the gun. But he could of being trying to hit the engineer diving right of flock as HE DID KNOW that they need the flying boat requiring the engineers.

    This is actually quite interesting, I hadn't even thought of that. I just love the thought of Floch scraping his head against the water for 15 hours, slowly bleeding out at the same time, after which he still had the strength to walk from the dock to the hangar (come on, you can't tell me that after 15 hours he still had the strength to use ODM gear), after which he hit the tank of the flying ship perfectly. It is truly a shame that Hange died. They have become my favorite character after Season 4 aired. My consolation is that, in a way, Hange got their happy ending after death.
    I guess that both the Yeagerists and the Alliance each had their own "plot armor" moments - although I personally don't like to use that word. Perhaps Isayama was in a bit of a hurry to finish the series, and didn't think carefully about what he was writing, or simply didn't notice that some moments made little sense. At least the moral of the story is clear, to most people at least.

    I think this video is demonstrating an incorrect perspective claiming there's "contextual evidence" about the situation. But in reality: I think too many assumptions are being made that are not taking into account a lot of other important factors (for example: Gabi's shot on Floch). I swear if I hear about how it's "poor writing" again, I'm gonna scream BECAUSE....it has been stated and shown in the story that Gabi is oh idk....THE BEST WARRIOR CANDIDATE WITH THE HIGHEST MARKS. Does anyone not realize that this most likely means (like it's a brain dead assumption because it could very well be the case) that YOU MUST BE THE BEST SHOT IN THE COUNTRY to have THE HIGHEST MARKS FOR A WARRIOR CANDIDATE. I could honestly go on with explaining and exploring how the same assumptions made regarding: Floch hung onto the boat, floch somehow knew where the fuel tank was, Floch was there to make Hange's death happen, ALL OF THIS AND MORE are assumptions that could easily be flipped with assumptions from THE OPPOSITE SIDE, meaning this: Floch zipped into the boat at night when everyone else was fucking asleep because what "watch" and "heavy guarding" is really going on here? Or perhaps: Floch knew where to fire because OH IDK...He was told by Eren?! He learned by talking with the Azumabitos he held hostage, or maybe even, he knew about what a flying boat was for way longer because it was shared with paradise by the Marleyans. My point: IF YOU MAKE ASSUMPTIONS AND CLAIM THAT EQUALS BAD WRITING, THEN DO THE SAME FUCKING THING FOR WHAT COULD ACTUALLY BE POSSIBLE BUT JUST NOT EXPLAINED THAT DO CONTRIBUTE TO THE STORY. ASSUMPTIONS ARE ASSUMPTIONS....just because it isn't explained, doesn't mean it's bad writing. Furthermore there are clues fucking everywhere which CAN support the claim that assumptions must be made about how things have happened to contribute to the story THAT HAVE NOT BEEN EXPLAINED, because they WERE ALREADY HINTED AT OR DISCUSSED IN SOME MEASURE. Hange couldnt fucking win regardless, so saying they "gave up on life" is a damn travesty of an assumption to make because as we know, that situation was unwinnable....that's the point, not to survive, but to provide time for the others. SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT. Sure if Floch wasn't there, THAT PROBLEM wouldn't exist...but HE COULD VERY WELL BE THERE. finally I'll leave this: you made an assumption about him getting shot in the "chest", hilarious because it looks like the damn shoulder/upper chest ON THE RIGHT SIDE. YOU CAN SURVIVE THIS. See what I mean about assumptions LITERALLY RUINING THINGS?!?

    Great video. I think Hange’s death makes sense. But there could have been a better and more plausible reason for the engineers to be delayed that had nothing to do with Floch. That is what makes me so angry about Hange’s death: that Floch caused it even though he had no right to be there.

  • @Gibbysaurio
    @Gibbysaurio 8 місяців тому +1

    I'm half and half on this, it makes no sense that Floch was able to be in range to latch onto the boat, let alone survive the voyage while bleeding out from a rifle shot, even if it was to the shoulder ( I saw a lot of people mentioning it, and even though he wouldn't die instantly since his vital organs aren't damaged, he obviously would have died from blood loss 15+ hours untreated). For me, it looks like he aimed at the engineers and even hit one over the shoulder, so he was trying to kill them so they wouldn't finish setting up the plane, but since they ducked and scattered he ended up hitting the plane (this is just plot convenience). Now for Hange, the scouts know from fighting Bertoldt that the colossal has the ability to emit heat that is capable of burning people alive if they are in close proximity for too long. So sending one or one hundred soldiers at the colossal titans would have made no difference other than number of titans killed, since they would have all passively burned at the same rate. Sending one person to stall for time was the correct call, but I do agree that is kind of a bullshit way to get rid of Hange's character, since it's derived from ropey plot contrivances.

    Honestly I think assuming the distance is the same just because of a shortcut taken in Map design isn't the best research. It makes for a funny concept that Floch just hung on for 15 hours with no desire or need to breath but realistically, it probably just illustrates that the base assumption is false. He probably hit the fuel tank because he was aiming at the Engineers who were standing next to it, which would make for a 0% accuracy (which i regularly achieve in COD without clinging to a ship in open sea for hours). Finally, I think the characterisation of Hange as stupid just makes me feel like you're not watching the show, as they are portrayed throughout as one of AoT's most intelligent characters. It's far more logical to surmise that Hange sacrificed themselves because despite being a good leader, and Floch being categorically and objectively wrong about Hange, they are not willing to sacrifice the lives of their soldiers for a suicide mission. Hange knew from the get-go that they were on a one-way trip, and the idea worked, without the need to sacrifice the entire regiment.

    The only thing I would truly change about the scene with Floch shooting the plane is the angle at which he is positioned. Instead of having him at the back of the hanger and shooting towards the entrance, meaning he's shooting the plane side-on, I'd have had him walk down the left-hand wall of the hanger before they notice him.
    This way, when he fires wildly it makes a lot more sense for some of his shots to actually hit the plane since it would have been the largest target in front of him; any bullets that didn't a person or the ground would have 100% hit the plane, which could have been just a single bullet to the fuel tank to have the same effect.

  • @datwee7576
    @datwee7576 Рік тому +5

    The accuracy argument is kinda weak, all the engineers are crowded around the plane while they are fueling it. So when he starts shooting at the engineers he is likely to hit the plane on each of his misses or close to it. So in total he hit 1 Engineer in the shoulder, the plane 3 times and 2 total misses. As for the stowaway thing, it is plausible since there are not that many people on the boat, all of them think Floch is dead, but more likely, he could have hid under the tarp and on the flying ship but had to slip out when the hit port (hence why he is wet now). I doubt they would have heard him since they are on a huge coal ship in the middle of the sea (loud). The bleeding out claim is fine but I can imagine a well trained soldier being able to patch a wound to their shoulder. And yes, Floch did know who he was shooting at, he did shoot an Engineer, the one who says “don’t loose hope” is bleeding in the next shot. Also let’s be honest about Hanges death, the idea that “a good commander would have sent the whole squad in” (they need to go fast and could not have killed all of them) is ridiculous since we know they can’t wait because the plane barely reaches Eren. She knows that at face value she is the weakest one to bring along to fight Eren. They titans need to stay alive, Mikasa and Levi are master fighters, and she is just a well trained soldier. Jean and Connie are debatable but they wouldent do much more than Hange would have done reasonably.

    In defense:
    - He was hit in the upper arm, not in the chest.
    - I always imagined he latched himself on the plane, and attacked himself to the boat, so he was not actually in the water (the water would have ripped his equipment off, then his clothes, then his skin)
    - It's possible he looked at the plane's plans before, and understood where is the fuel tank, that is most likely a concept he understands. He was the de facto head of the state, he probably wanted to know how it works.
    - He hit a scientint in the shoulder. It's hard to say what he was aiming at, he used his left hand and was severly fatigued. It looks like just directional hits, with the avarage Jaegerist accuracy.
    In prosecution:
    - That wound is still fatal if untreated. Major veins run there. He would bleed out in a few hours. It does not look like he ripped his sleeve off to stop the bleeding. He definetely could not walk.
    - The fact that he is still wet is stupid. He was in the water, he would have died, and his gun would not work.
    - It is astonishing that he did not lose that gun on the way (it is not the one attacked to his arm, he drops it when Mikasa kills him. Or maybe it is the one he had on his left hand and somehow deattached it with his completely mutilated right arm).
    - Wherever he was, it is stupid he was not caught.
    - He spent a day bleeding out, without water and food, possibly in the sea. No way he had the strength to walk.
    Plus:
    - They never bothered to remove the bullets from the fuel tank. I am not an expert, but they could totally clug the pipes inside. Or if they were not cooled off enough in an hour, they could ignite the fuel inside.
    Stupid excuse:
    - Eren could have altered Floch a bit with his powers to make him survive, but I don't see a reason for him to do that just to get him and Hange killed. He liked them both, and it served no purpose in the grand scheme of things.

    Floch didn't intentionally shoot the fuel tank. He was trying to kill those men, but because he was injured and tired he was a terrible shot. It is ridiculous that he clung to a boat with a chest wound for 15 hours, but the shooting of the fuel tank wasn't bad writing. He was tired, cold, desperate, and injured, and that affected his accuracy. The fuel tank was only hit because it was his backstop.

What´s harder to buy is him grabbing to the boat for that long, maybe he grappled to the plane they were carring an hid there.

    It doesn't make sense to send out more people to attack hundreds of wall titans and potentially lose more people especially when there's only like 8 of them left so Hange's sacrifice does make sense. also I wouldn't say that she was a bad commander she definitely faced the most adversity and death but she played the cards she was dealt with as well as she could plus she had some big shoes to fill coming after Erwin

    • @collateral8920
      @collateral8920  Рік тому +1

      I think she did the best she could too, but they literally had the chance to bring back Erwin, and then we would have Erwin to fill Erwin's shoes. also my point with hangie's sacrifice not making a ton of since is because if they all attacked the wall titans at once it would have slowed them down enough for all of them to swing back and get on the plain before takeoff. again they wouldn't even have to do that if Flock didn't impossibly survive and then land a killer grouping in the one spot of the plan that could reasonably slow them down

    • @TheGamingBacklog0
      @TheGamingBacklog0 Рік тому

      @collateral8920 I think that the main reason the cast doesn't help Hange kill the Collosul titans is because they would be significantly lower on compressed air for the final battle. In this sense them watching Hange while being fully geared up is them accepting Hange's sacrifice as a valuable sacrifice for the benefit of their resources.

    • @collateral8920
      @collateral8920  Рік тому

      yes I think you are right, but they never brought up the fact that they were low on resources, in fact they were probably high on resources since they just came from the dock that had a ton of people with odm gear. also would you rather have an additional comrade or a little bit more gas. It was Hange's call and she thought her life was less valuable that the resources so maybe she was right, but they didn't explain it that way. again, this all would not have happed if it wasn't for flock being able to slow them down.

    • @TheGamingBacklog0
      @TheGamingBacklog0 Рік тому +1

      I wouldn't imagine that a ship that the scouts were about to blow up would have any gas in it. And since there was a huge fight right before it's safe to assume that the cast wanted to save as much air as possible. Although I very much agree with all of your points about Flock's survival being completely unrealstic (who wouldn't) but if we disregard Flock's survival I believe that Hange's death is completely valid even if there could have been a different choice made. Like you said it was clearly a very rushed way to kill off Hange and I understand the type of anger such an oversight can make. For me though I can easily disregard a lot of the dumb decisions made near the end of aot because of how good a majority of the show is. Regardless is it a really dumb oversight. Literally any other reason for Hange's death would have been better

    he probably wanted only the main characters in the final fight so hange stays behind.
    it is the very end of the show so dont think its that bad. flock needing to die there was unnecesary indeed; all they had to do was to make the scene more dramatic by any other means like simply the titans being faster than they expected because they are no longer as atrophied due to being in the wall for hundreds of years.
    considering the jaeger squad still rules paradis, flock remaining alive would be akward though; he would be very vengeful about it. maybe he wanted to have flock die on screen so his character doesnt just get dropped off the story and so he isnt there ruling by the end.

  • @bossisin2510
    @bossisin2510 10 місяців тому +2

    I completely agree that flocks death/conclusion isn’t thought out or satisfying, and like you say is forced. And while I don’t think Angie’s death was handled well in the anime as it comes off as a little cheesy and her going to Heaven is retarded, but I do think that the reason why she dies makes sense. In the world does make a sock survive slowing down the colossal‘s, you can’t get close enough to more than three without catching a blaze, no matter how good you are at ODM gear. So obviously sending multiple scouts would be a waste, you only need one to buy enough time, and while she could’ve sent Jean or Connie, I think she realized that she isn’t Erwin, that not only does she not have the capability to be a monster, but also that her life is not as valuable to the scouts as theirs. Unlike Erwin the scouts will be much better off with Armin leading them

He came from this sobbing, scared, cowering timid man, to this fearless beast of solider. He actually knew Erens real plan. I would assume that Floch was right. Before he died, he was able to get what he wanted. He didn’t survive to see to it the end. He got everything he wanted. I’m sad he died. I’m sad Hange died. I’m sad for the scouts in general. Sad for the world. Eren & Floch did get what they want in the end.

    Armin was a better pick over Erwin for the colossal titan. Erwin's sole purpose of fighting was to prove that there are people living beyond the walls. After proving that, he would have little motivation to continue fighting. Erwin very clearly wouldn't be a Yaegerist considering he has very little national pride and wouldn't want to kill the thing he was chasing his whole life.
    Ultimately Erwin would be a less effective version of Armin when fighting Eren as he wouldn't be able to emotionally connect with the shifters in the paths and would be a weaker fighter against Eren's colossal form.

    It’s not crazy to think someone could survive a bullet to the shoulder without bleeding out. In fact, with the bullet lodged in, it’s probably stopping any lethal amount of blood loss.
    It’s also not hard to believe that he attached himself to the side of the boat and then just waited out the 15hour trip. Probably slipping in and out of consciousness.
    Finally, it’s not hard to believe that he just regains consciousness at the point he makes his move. Drops into the water and hobbles out to make a last ditch effort to be a nuisance.
    All of it is pretty extreme, don’t get me wrong but none of these are hard to believe in the world of AOT.

    I'm not convinced of the argument that Flock's survival was unrealistic. There are plenty of examples of people surviving insane situations while bleeding out in real life. Do you have to suspend your disbelief to accept Flock's survival? Sure you do. But how the hell is this the one thing that breaks someone's suspension of disbelief in AoT?
    Remember in the previous season how Armin was burned alive and fell like 60 meters, but then still held on long enough to get injected? Floch's survival is far more in line with real stories like Aron Ralston or José Salvador Alvarenga than half the shit that AoT characters live through.

    the upside down map was a smart idea. If you think about it, we have no reason for having the map face the way it does. We could hold it sideways with the poles on the side and it would be accurate to the world. So AOT world is 100% accurate to ours. Madagascar is Praradis island. This also means Eren against the rest of the world would imply that Eren was gonna fight the US military.
