- Join along as we open up an ancient fossil (stromatolite) &/or Mary Ellen jasper by cutting it in half! Seeing inside this ancient algea was mind blowing, the details were breathtaking and beautiful! It's a great piece of jasper we have jasper and negates here in Australia but that specie is insane. Keep it up my friend you will hit the jackpot one day I am 70 years old and I love my collection, and I am still looking for my jackpot. I just commented on 99rockhoundings video. One of his tumbled rocks reminded me of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Then your Mary Ellen Jasper has the same effect. It looks like the MEJ has glacial striations on the surface.
