This is from the exclusive Jesse Ventura shoot interview! Find out why former WWF (WWE, WWWF) star Jesse Ventura decided to sue his former boss Vince McMahon. At the time, Jesse Ventura had worked in Hollywood and realized that unlike WWF, he was receiving royalty checks for his work.
When Jesse approached McMahon about also receiving royalties, Vince allegedly stated that WWF does not give out royalties to its performers. This is where the lawsuits started. Jesse went on to work with McMahon again at SummerSlam 99, where he made the most money he'd ever made for a single night of wrestling.
He beat mcmahon 3x in court??!?!!
That's more impressive than beating taker's streak
If u get to sue and win cases against McMahon, u got to be a very smart individual.
Jesse is one of the smartest guys in wrestling.
@S E I really hope that's a joke.
@S E You're very wrong about that
Well, how high a bar it is we don't know, but the guy definitely has some brains. However, as he says elsewhere, he had brilliant lawyers. In lawsuits you just need to be smart enough to hire smarter.
This man rarely stutters. Clearly enunciates - gifted speaker.
Jesse is one dam smart man
Hear Hear . Well done Mr Ventura
Vince McMahon really is a piece of work.
a living legend,i miss his commentating - brilliant guy
That guy who organized a union within Amazon and then after Amazon fired him is brilliant as well. Chris Smalls. Another David vs. Goliath type situation. Christian Smalls.
He won all three times and good luck all the way and he is correct on all three cases
Shut up
Way to go Jesse...Good for you.
Jesse is a genus!!!!
What a true storyteller Jesse is
This man does it better than CM Punk, this is how you get the job done. Jesse is the only wrestler that could stand up to Vince. And I respect him for that
this man needs a Netflix series on this story alone
I’d watch it! Or better yet a biopic film about his life, navy seal career, wrestling career and governor career. Huh?!
@@grantdavis6363 No, I'd go for this story alone, plus his unionization story simply because in america NOBODY makes a 'pro union' movie. I was amazed to hear 'mr. libertarian' talk about how they needed a union. Way too many owners are like vince mcmahan think that because they had an idea and put some work into it that when people pay to see wrestling thats HIS money. People pay to see wrestling, not Vince mcmahan. I'd be very interested on a documentary that finds all the wrestlers from the eighties and find out what htey are doing now financially and how much they benefit from literally taking a beating for 'work'. If anything Andre the Giant, Mr. T, Jesse Ventura and Hulk Hogan made wrestling an eighties phenomenon, hell even I know all about these guys and I've never watched a wrestling match since 1979.
This must be why some DVDs were blurring out his commentary back then...
Yes Vince has to pay Jesse royalties for the DVDs he is in. he doesnt want to so they cut him or skip him entirely
The best interviews are with guys who do not have to he in the wrestling business any more. This one is no exception.
Don't get me wrong, you have to be smart and take advantage sometimes of loopholes and things if you want to be in business, but this is another example of Vince showing he's a scumbag.
If all the other wrestlers who have worked for the WWF and WWE were smart like Jesse, they'd sue for their royalties too. It's not right to withhold their residuals from all the money Vince made off of their talents.
He was able to do it because he had an agent. He was the first "personality" to have one. That afforded him the luxury of having someone else negotiate his contract and thus, not have the wool pulled over his eyes.
I agree, and that's why wrestlers need to follow in Ventura's footsteps on this issue.
Most did. Barry Bloom is the name of the agent and he went on to represent pretty much anyone who came out of the Minnesota area. Xpac sights Barry Bloom as the man who saved his career
Now Vince is taking away twitch and other platforms from wrestlers
Jesse was smart enough early in his career to copyright his name.
He would not sell it to Vince.
Other wrestlers never had the vision to do that. By the time they looked up Vince had copyrighted their names and controlled their marketing. Also kept them as independent contractors so he didn't have to pay benefits or expenses.
Thats why you see guys like Funk and Flair wrestle into their sixties cause of the lack of benefits the WWE gives to these guys.
lets not forget these wrestlers spending habits, flair would have made millions of dollars
flair and funk barely wrestled for wwf/wwe if you think about it... if you add up their careers they are NWA/WCW guys and territory... flair was 44/45 in his 1st wwe run and late 50s in his 2nd... his lifestyle fucked him over not wwe
@rmccay88 I’ve read the article and it’s damn sad
Not investing or saving is a personal choice
Ventura was smarter then everyone else!!!!!
I love Jesse. No BS, just says it like it is and had the balls to go after Vince for his shady business practices.
Perfectly said. And it wasn't just about what was in it for himself. He tried to get wrestlers to unionize. Ballsy move that could have gotten him blackballed from wrestling. What a smart, fascinating, admirable guy who isn't afraid to fight for what's fair.
At the time, Jesse’s compatriots could’ve had what Jesse got. But they decided not to unionize.
WWE pays royalties to past and current talent for footage distributed on physical media (DVD, Blu-ray) but not on demand (WWE Classics On Demand, WWE Network). Jesse mentioned in a 2015 interview that he hasn't gotten any royalties from being on WWE Network, I assume because the settlement he mentioned in the video only covered home video since OD/streaming didn't exist at the time.
He is all over the Network, but on WWE Home Video releases since 2004, he is edited out if he's only in one or two matches. If he's included more (like the PPV Anthology box sets or the 2014 Warrior set where he calls 10 or so matches), they leave his voice intact, and he gets paid for it.
the reason vince is still friends with jesse is because, even though he didnt like having to pay jesse what he owed him, he had to respect a good adversary, someone casually comes along and beats you 3 times in court its probably a smart thing to do to partner up with them
Vince McMahon: That's my money, it's MINE!!!
Jesse Ventura: I won, you lost, DEAL WITH IT!!!
Vince: 😭
Jesse Ventura got paid more as a referee than an announcer!?
#DabbleEuuTeeEff
I got no time to bleed Vince!
The point he's actually making is he got paid more as a ref than he ever did as a Wrestler. Jesse was an accomplished wrestler a long time before he was an announcer/commentator
thats not what was said at all...
These guys do so much to get paid so little without benefits.
Jesse Ventura The Legend
I'm loving these videos
Jesse for PRESIDENT!
A fucking badass who don't got time to bleed!
just think of all the wrestlers who's matches are on wwe network that don't see a penny because wwe isn't doing what they are obligated to do and pay them for their likeness and image. imagine if wwe actually did what they were suppose to and pay people what people are actually owed how more more wwe network would cost. you save money on wwe network because wwe doesn't pay people. I dropped the network after year 1 because it just wasn't worth supporting. glad to hear Jesse got what is owed to him. with precedence set other wrestlers should step up and get what wwe owes them.
They aren't obligated to pay wrestlers royalties for old footage unless the company has promised that in the contact. Jesse himself said so in the video.
The reason he was able to successfully sue was because his agent was told by a WWE rep. more than once that royalties weren't being paid for the Coliseum Video releases and then he found out that wasn't true.
WWE wrestlers do get royalties for home video releases but not the Network. Current WWE contracts specifically mention cable on demand and online streaming as revenue sources that will not be used to pay royalties to talent.
chrisH H I think you'll find that they are too obligated to pay for likeness of people.
They are not obligated to pay royalties unless they've promised to do so, which they have done in the case of home video but not the Network. As Jesse mentioned, Vince would have won the case had the company just been honest and told Jesse that they were paying royalties to the wrestlers but wouldn't be paying him.
It's no different with non-WWE promotions, as groups like ROH do not pay, for example, Kevin Owens anything if they release an old match of his.
chrisH H, you believe whatever story you want to. I know that wwe is legally obligated to pay royalties to people for their likeness and images that they stream. the reason why they are allowed not to is because most wrestler from the 1980's are poor and cannot afford to sue wwe. wwe would lose the lawsuit once it finally went to a jury trial. wwe has an obligation to pay for the images of the wrestlers they air on the network just like dvd and vhs sales. thank you come again or not it is really whatever. done discussing this with you.
What about Ventura? Is he poor? He's the one who said in this video that Vince isn't obligated to pay royalties and that he only beat Vince in court because of the specific circumstances of his case.
Met this guy in 2012 real guy
I don’t understand why Vince Jr won’t give these wrestlers benefits with their contracts.
Master mind because vince mchamon is a real corporate selfies bastard
Because of just what you heard on the phone.......money. No amount of Money will ever be enough. He likes the power also. Look at that story that just broke this week or so about Vince and the Covid-19 Stock payout to shareholders and laying off workers etc. It's all about Money to him.
Greed
Because he is a typical greedy businessman. Wants to pay as little as possible to his workers
@@lightningsmokerXx more than money, it's about power.
Love it!
How can anyone not love this guy
Jesse for President. ❤️🙌🏻
✨Love everything this man stands for✨
Happy to hear they are on good terms now
Jesse knew the business better than anyone.
But I noticed the wwe often edits Jesse's commentary out of wcw matches.
I like it that even though Vince was furious, at the end the day he knows Jesse still appreciates him and what wrestling is. It’s just business and Vince knows deep down he would’ve done the same thing Jesse did. Vince can be tough to deal with, but he’s a decent guy imo.
I respect the heck out of this man.
Gotta give to someone knowing his own worth
This guy is bordering on mesmerising.
Right on Jesse Ventura!!!
Gah-DAMN It, I Adore & Admire This Man!
Jesse is a genius.
The legal system is the only way to go.
He seems to sue everyone.
Good for him. I respect due process.
And that's the bottom line because Jesse Ventura said so!
👏🤣👏 awesome
Genius
Jesse Ventura: Great wrestler, Greater Announcer, I'd vote for him any day for President of the United States of America!
Yeah well here's the problem: no third parties are allowed because they go against everyone within the Republican or Democratic parties. Since Jesse was ousted as Governor of Minnesota, they never allowed anyone from the third party to debate for governorship or president.
Dang, Jesse really hates Hogan 😆😆
Of course we know why Jesse's commentary is muted on certain WWE video releases. Jesse has rights to his voice. Luckily, Vince managed to pay Jesse some money and his commentary is back on certain WWE videos and reruns.
I own wwe now bro
He sued and he stills decides to come back. Royalties are offered to actual wrestlers not random bookers who left for Hollywood.
Since Vince McMahon admitted in a deposition that the ONLY people who got royalties were those FROM Hollywood, like Cyndi Lauper, Hulk Hogan, and Mr. T, then like in the clip, I think yours is the minority opinion.
Jesse Venture looked so sharp when he was Governor and well groomed. I don't like the way Jesse looks with the long hair.
I'm curious how big are those checks Jesse is Good from Vince McMahon
message to allllllllllllll wrestlers outside of WWE *NEVER SIGN THERE* it's not worth it
Vince McMahon is a horrible boss in wwe.
yep now he's banned 3rd party meaing superstars can't have a youtube channel, twitch, tiktok or any of that because the way i hear it they're making money WITHOUT vince "asshole" mcmahon
@ D C, nowadays he is, but this wasn't always the case. The turnover of in-ring talent is a lot higher now than it's ever been. The WWF would have been a good company to work for in the early to mid 1980's. The only problem would have been back then was the money and the travel. No days off. Vince had 10 day contracts, for $1,500 for most of the wrestlers. The only people who made a lot of money was Hogan, Piper, Savage, Warrior, Dibiase, Andre, Iron Sheik. These guys were positioned high on the card, that's why they made a lot of money. The WWE today for an in-ring talent would be a bad company to work for. No pension plan, 401k retirement package, or healthcare for that matter....If an in ring talent can't even have their own youtube channel because of Vince than that's when it's time to quit. Any profession where you spend more on road, hotel, car, plane tickets, gym, food expenses than you made that entire year is not worth it unless you truly love the wrestling business.
@@jordandill7863 that’s because only virgins play video games. You’re golden boy MJF said it best
I want to hear what Jesse thinks of the new Vince McMahon scandal.
Vince McMahon shot Kennedy , book it. Have you ever seen Oswald and Vince McMahon in the same picture?
so vince killed warrior for suing him but not ventura. well ventura has cia connections then
What are you talking about
That's my money
That's my money
Dude I'm so done
"Thats my money"
"Then why did your accountant send it to me?"
@@mikearchibald744 right
This is still gut busting funny
They should have a retirement package. With the beatings they take, they should be taken car of.
lol he's the reason why the show called WWE now 😄🚬🍺
Doesn't make sense at all the show isn't called WWE the company is and the reason they had to change from WWF was because the Worldwide Wildlife Fund had the rights before them
ASchraub I thought Vince said someone sued the hell outta company so bad that he had to change the name
no shade brah, but LOL!
Yes, but it was the World Wildlife Foundation that sued heavily. What really stinks is, the WWF (wrestling) had the north american patent first, but didn't file for a patent in Europe and that's why they lost the suit.
Dallas, correct, sir.
Even if Vince's company is still WWF, we still would be bitching about the product since it's become so stale.
Jesse is such a good guy, so honest. He's only lying when he's shaking back and forth, and that's like never.
I think Vince screwed himself .
Jessy and Vince are the best
WRESTLING announcers in the
Business..
Jessie Ventura was smarter then Vince! That's why Vince never fucked with Ventura!!!
Lmao. This FN guy. Lmao

take the vax ventura
Jesse and Trump
The smartest business men in the USA
Don't believe everything Jesse says. He talks a good game, but i caught him in a lie. Like when he said on Howard Stern "I walked away from wrestling in 1990 and never looked back." What about his return in WCW? He says all this stuff to puff himself up. Don't believe everything he says. In almost every interview he says he was a Navy seal. Ok you were a Navy Seal for 4 years, you don't need to brag about everytime you speak to someone for the rest of your life.
Conjecture, my friend. He has said on many wrestling podcasts and interviews that he did the WCW run strictly for the money. He didn't care about the product. When he was involved with the WWF he loved the product.
That's fine and dandy, but he did not "walk away from wrestling and never look back." He went to WCW for the money. So he did look back. I caught him in a clear lie.
No, you're trying to split hairs in the hopes of promoting your own self worth.
The proof's right there. You just wanna try & hide it.
Don't try that reverse psychology with me dickbrain. Nothing you say is true. the proofs right there.
