- This week On the Road to Emmaus, our year-long pilgrimage through the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Bishop Earl Boyea explores the significance of the Sign of Peace. He also throws out what is, possibly, his most difficult challenge yet. Bishop Boyea says: "I am challenging you to consider someone you’re disconnected from or, even, estranged from and to attempt to reconcile with that person."
It took me a few years to make peace with my sister. Through prayer, I realized that holding onto anger was not only a sin, but showed how far out of touch I was with God's prime commandment. It was a stupid hurt but it was hard to let go of it. Thank God for prayers and his teachings.

Pray that reconciliation is possible between my child and myself. I have been asking my Guardian Angel to speak to her Guardian Angel for a while now. I believe with God all things are possible.

Peace Be with You was never properly explained to us when it was first instituted. There are probably many Catholics who don’t understand the history, and just assume that this was another “modernization” effort by the Church after Vatican II. I am very thankful after these many years that this beautiful explanation has been provided to us.

According to the GIRM the Sign of Peace to each other is optional and only when appropriate e.g. weddings and funerals.
Justin Martyr records the sign of peace in the early Liturgy as well.
