Abrams' question was off base. Trump clearly chose Vance as a potential successor. Trump would have been expecting him to show that he could take up the reins of his movement and potentially win the presidency himself in 2028. That's why he chose him; he would not be upset about that. Trump's not out there at real risk of being murdered just to get yet more publicity for himself. He wants his movement to continue on, and Vance can ensure that.
