A very tempting model indeed! Sure is an improvement on the old design and nice to see it get compared to it! Great to see most of the buffer beam detail is all ready fitted! Shame about the bent lamp hook, but see it was an easy fix. Sure a smooth runner when ran in! She sure looks amazing with the Mk1 rake! Would look excellent with coach light too! Amazing work as always and keep these top reviews coming! Great work!
It's nice to see Bachmann are listening to their customer base and taking on board their feedback. As you say, the original 40 is a fine model, just lacking some of the modern features we now expect at the price. The only reason I didn't buy the old one was because of it's lack of lights, but this new one looks excellent and will certainly hold its own next to my class 85 and 47. Do you know if the cab interior and tail lights are switchable like on the 85? Here's hoping they also release the earlier split headcode and marker disc variants too. The 40s are a stylish design and the BR green livery looks very elegant on them, I will definitely be picking one of these up!
Great review Will, very nice model! Would love to see you put lighting & possible passengers into the coaches, I think it could be a great video. As I said the 40 looks amazing & a revisited video would be great! Great work, cheers Jack
I'd love to watch a video of her being chipped, and also how to install a sound card and speakers. Do the cab lights always flash? Or is this only on low speed? Will DCC make that go away? I'd love to watch a video on installing lights in the coaches. What would be *really* cool would be a guide to installing table lights on Pullman coaches. A truly demanding project, but worth it, I think.
I loved your impression of the talking D369!! I suspect the damaged lamp hook was done the the crocodile-like jaws of the plastic packaging. I note you did not mention that on the blue loco the handrail above the headcode box was closer to the box than that of D369. Wish i could afford the bachmann version. Thanks for putting this on.
There are lots of improvements that you have missed. Here are some of them ..... 1) The ride height has been lowered reducing the overscale gap between body and bogies. 2) The side radiator grilles have been re-positioned and resized to be correct with the height adjustment. 3) The cab side windows are now re-done for the same reason. 4) The boiler room panel is now smaller. 5) Split headcode versions have smaller boxes. 6) Cantrail grilles on the side you don't show are now modelled as long-long-short instead of previously long-short-long. 7) Rainstrips are now more to scale. ALSO, the exhaust that you weren't sure about, is the steam heat generator (boiler) exhaust.
Make a video on DDCing and fitting strip lights to those coaches !! Great review as always, and quite a special one indeed as it is nice to have it compared to the previous version
There's a Bachmann Torbay express train set which in my opinion looks pretty impressive I got my Torbay express train set in Birmingham by new street station. The first set from Bachmann was working to start with but like an hour later it didn't move but the lights were showing, I've had it replaced now. Brilliant class 40:) I might put the class 40 on my list. How much does it cost?
Another brilliant Video InterCity82 .. Well done. I loved watching this Review of the new 2014 Bachamann Class 40. It was really good and I liked the scene when you got the new 2014 version of the Bachamann Class 40 talking with it's bogie. I also would love to watch you fitting the 21 Pin DCC Chip to your new 2014 version of the Bachmann Class 40 and fitting the lights into your Bachmann MK1 BR Blue Coaches. I am looking forward to watching your next Review in the IC82 Series 5 Series and other Videos in the other Series that you Upload.
on the instructions you looked at, it said you should run in for 30 minutes in each direction, even though on the second piece of paper it said 60 minutes. I'd like to see you strip lighting the coaches!
Hey Will. Great review. I think it would be great to see her running with the strip lighting in the coaches. If you do fit lighting could you do a video to show how to fit the lighting. Thanks.
The Class 40 worked on the WCML but it also worked on the GEML through East Anglia and on the North Wales Coast Line, but alas have never worked on the ECML
I have the same as I nabbed it the moment Rails of Sheffield got them in stock. Great model and I am looking forward to fitting sound into my example at some point. Did you know that D369 is actually 40169 so therefore you technically have both locomotives? ;). As for the sound chip, I am more steered towards Legomanbiffo's sounds as I have his sounds on one of my Hornby Class 60's and they are fantastic Will. Trust me mate, I think you would be impressed :). Ash.
Yes, I'd love to see strip lighting. Also do you know if when you fit DCC, does only the front cab light up? it looks a little odd with the rear cab lit too
I'd like to see coach light fitting. If you find a kit to do it, it'd be a nice contrast to Everard Junction's home made coach lighting video. I do like the class 40s, maybe if you could do the ex-Lima Hornby class 40 that's coming out with TTS sound then that'd be a good comparison. Apparently the old lima tooling is better than bachmann's in terms of the shape of the noses
I have heard about the Class 400 with TTS sound. Definitely sounds like a video I should make - so watch out for that! And plenty of people have requested the strip lighting video so I'll price it up next week.
The thing I hated about the previous class 40 was the buffers on the bogies. I hate models that have buffers/ploughs joined to the bogies. It's the only thing stopping me getting a Hornby class 153.
good update yes lets see you do more work go for the light in the coach as well to tell the truth i like both the sets my self would be happy to have both of them must add them to my wish list.
hey will, great video but i would be careful with the new class 40, i got mine for my birthday ran it a few times then the motor just stopped but everything else worked. according to rmweb its a common problem. well good luck with it
hello the front wheels on the bogie, do not help it around corners , in fact they are a huge hindrance "" especialy in the shunting yard where curves are tight and we had many a de railed 40,, they are there on your first guess that no one wheel is allowed more than 9 tons, and more usually about 7 , , a lot of early MODEL class 40's had no flanges on the inner wheels so curves could be taken on the model railway which are a lot tighter than they would ever see in real life, hope tia helps , worked on them many years ago
love this vid my dad loves peakies (I think that's a peakie my dad calls them peakies) I think he would love the new one because hes got an old one ive got him a yellow monster box for christmas
You been to barrowhill roundhouse in chesterfield you love to visit that place they got there own website it the last surving operational working roundhouse in britian have all sorts there they have the deltic presivation trust and events and festivals there very popular to the public its a place to visit when events are on you missed east coast giants event :)
Yeah its a brill place to visit sometime in future and there on facebook aswell and show pics of there lastest events and news whats happerning there atm blue peter stored there and the deltics are there coz that where preservation trust is loads to see

Thanks for the great comment! I'll definitely do a video on fitting lighting to those MK1s.
The Class 40's did operate freight on the East Coast Mainline, in fact D283 was involved in the collision which wrote off DP2 at Thirsk.
It's nice to see Bachmann are listening to their customer base and taking on board their feedback.

Glad to see a review again!!!
Looks an excellent model. Obviously runs well as well. Looking forward to seeing it run when chipped.
Great review Will, very nice model! Would love to see you put lighting & possible passengers into the coaches, I think it could be a great video. As I said the 40 looks amazing & a revisited video would be great! Great work, cheers Jack
Thanks for the comment! I'll definitely do the strip lighting vid. Shall price it up next week.

Be nice to see them Double heading! Great Review
That can be arranged!
I'm getting one for christmas! YAY finally
the round hole at the back is the exuast hole for the steam heat boiler located behind the No. 2 end cab.
I only just figured out that you have got a pre tops 40 and a Tops class 40 which are exactly the same number but in different liveries
I'd like to see the chip and lighting. Your workload is already pretty huge though!
I sure is! But I shall definitely do it. I'll price it up next week.
There are lots of improvements that you have missed. Here are some of them .....
1) The ride height has been lowered reducing the overscale gap between body and bogies.

Hey Will, are you ever going to show us the main layout? I'm really curious as to what it looks like.
I would like you to chip it and strip light the coaches. Great review well done.
Will do!
Make a video on DDCing and fitting strip lights to those coaches !!
Great review as always, and quite a special one indeed as it is nice to have it compared to the previous version
Will do! And thanks for the comment!
You said ‘haven’t got the LMS garratt yet’ so I’m hoping you will eventually get one.
I really like garratts
Great vid, when will we see the main layout? and please do a vid on the lighting and the chip.
There's a Bachmann Torbay express train set which in my opinion looks pretty impressive I got my Torbay express train set in Birmingham by new street station. Hi You said MAIN LAYOUT in this video have you got another layout?
Would love to see how the strip lighting is done.
Cheers..
Superb! Really nice model! Thanks for the review.
Another brilliant Video InterCity82 .. Well done. I loved watching this Review of the new 2014 Bachamann Class 40. I am looking forward to watching your next Review in the IC82 Series 5 Series and other Videos in the other Series that you Upload.
Thanks, as ever for a great comment! I shall definitely do the strip lighting to the MK1s - it should be a good video!
Great review, it would look nice with DCC and lit coaches!
on the instructions you looked at, it said you should run in for 30 minutes in each direction, even though on the second piece of paper it said 60 minutes.
I'd like to see you strip lighting the coaches!
Great review! I own an older Lima 40 in green with yellow ends, love the look of the Bachmanns refresh :)
Nice one in the BR green
I wish Bachman would introduce a DCC sound variant with small yellow panels. Although to be fair the one with full green ends looks nice too.
Hey Will. Great review. I think it would be great to see her running with the strip lighting in the coaches. If you do fit lighting could you do a video to show how to fit the lighting. Thanks.
Definitely! I'll price them up next time I go.
I have a class 40 at home and she’s lovely
The Class 40 worked on the WCML but it also worked on the GEML through East Anglia and on the North Wales Coast Line, but alas have never worked on the ECML
Thanks for the info!
Very nice review, lovely model the livery looks great. I would like to see you do a video on coach lighting.

Ash.
please do a video of the main layout i would to see it!
I'd like to see chiping and coach lighting demonstrations please. keep the great videos coming.
I'll definitely do it! Will price it up next week.
I'd also like to see the Dcc chipping being done
Please show us the strip lighting :) never seen that being done before
Very nice model I have a Lima class 40 in br blue. I got the bachman class 37 very happy with it. I would be nice if you could double head them.
nice review, if you look at the paper with the diagram again it looks like it may be pre fitted with a speaker
It's definitely prefitted with the housing for a speaker - I know that.
The blue class 40 also has a cab driver in it too
Chipped and strip lighting is a must. Possible strength test like the BR 9F Evening Star as the Class 40 looks a brute.
Will do!
Yes, I'd love to see strip lighting.
Also do you know if when you fit DCC, does only the front cab light up? it looks a little odd with the rear cab lit too
I thought that too - so it'll be interesting to see what happens when the chip is installed.
That hole was to fill the water take for the steam heat boiler, back in the day where diesels had steam heat fitted to them. It is not for air.
I would like to see it chipped with the coaches with lighting strips :) and maybe could you double head them with a class 37 that would look cool
I'd like to see coach light fitting. If you find a kit to do it, it'd be a nice contrast to Everard Junction's home made coach lighting video. Yeah can you do the strip lighting
aweome video!
Can you do a running session will it will be really cool seeing all your trains
When you say your "Main Layout" do you mean you have something different or just another line in your room??
I think there is one at the Great Central Railway, I'm going to see one tomorrow
Yes! Please put lighting in the coaches!
Will do!
Omg you responded!
I'd like you to do a video of the strip lighting in the coaches
Hey Will can you do a running session because I really want to see one with all your grill locos
Lol hmmm I'm a bit snowed under at the moment. I will be doing some running vids soon tho.
Still a few class 40s at the East Lancashire Railway Will
The thing I hated about the previous class 40 was the buffers on the bogies. I hate models that have buffers/ploughs joined to the bogies. It's the only thing stopping me getting a Hornby class 153.
What shop did you get it from
good update yes lets see you do more work go for the light in the coach as well to tell the truth i like both the sets my self would be happy to have both of them must add them to my wish list.
Thanks for the comment! I'll price up the lighting strips next week.
Very detailed and I wish it has DCC and sound
There is a DCC sound one but I recommend fitting it with a chip from South West Digitial instead.
when will we see the proper layout
I second this!
wait you have a main layout i didnt know i thought that was your only layout will you ever show the main one!!!!!
Will what happened to your conservatory?
She looks very nice :D
Nice video 👳👳
Thanks for the comment!
hey will, great video but i would be careful with the new class 40, i got mine for my birthday ran it a few times then the motor just stopped but everything else worked. according to rmweb its a common problem. well good luck with it
Oh dear! The Bachmann fanboys have neglected to mention this!
Plz can u do a video on your main layout upstairs
Would be great to add lights to the other one, & the coaches & have a double header express :)
Another good review :) yer would like to see vids on coach lighting that that would be really useful. Thanks
Thanks for the comment - I'll price up the strip lighting next week.
What is this "main layout"?
Yes put strip lighting in
Yesssss
I'd love to watch you fit strip lighting.
Will do! I'll price it up next week.
I believe that the Mauretania was named aftr the very famous passenger liner :)
Nice Class 40 :-D
Thanks! haha
the exhausts are the four squares you looked at , not air intake ""
Yes
Yeah it will look nice with strip lighting
Yup! I'll defo do it!
If you do it then post a video on it with its strip lighting at xmas with all the decks up it would look really nice
I would get a Bachmann Class 40 if they made one in BR green as running number D261.
Magnificent if the trailer lights were on at nighttime
It was a class 40 that was hauling the mail train of the Great Train Robbery
Please do lighting in the coaches. :D
Will do!

Yes fit strip lights on camera so it's like a how to

Deffently put lighting in your coaches

Will do!
22 hours ago, nuts
love this vid my dad loves peakies (I think that's a peakie my dad calls them peakies) I think he would love the new one because hes got an old one ive got him a yellow monster box for christmas
I think, though not quite sure, the peak are the class 46s
Mike Petersen and the Class 44 and Class 45 are also called peaks i think
40169 is d369 as 40001 is d200
strip lighting definetly
I shall do!
Newton left willows is in Merseyside not Lancashire because I am from Merseyside and I know my county
DO IT THERE AWSOME IN MK1!!!
I would like to see it chipped and the coaches lit. :-)
And dcc
Yes, strip light your coaches please :)
Will do!
I have 4 that's at lest 10years old and there 8pin dcc ready
You been to barrowhill roundhouse in chesterfield you love to visit that place they got there own website it the last surving operational working roundhouse in britian have all sorts there they have the deltic presivation trust and events and festivals there very popular to the public its a place to visit when events are on you missed east coast giants event :)

Yeah its a brill place to visit sometime in future and there on facebook aswell and show pics of there lastest events and news whats happerning there atm blue peter stored there and the deltics are there coz that where preservation trust is loads to see
How do you make money from a youtube page just intrigued to know
Do that
