For sure if ya want to keep that body mint but if ya throw some finder flairs on there after ya cut it would look really cool so that would be a good option as well
If this were my build, I'd do the lift, and smaller tires but also maybe some spacers so you don't have to cut the body. The body is really the charm of the whole thing.
The problem is… it looks perfect where it is (lift/wheel size.) it has good balance. I’d modify the fenders, and add flares to cover up the rough edges.
Can you widen the suspension, like a long travel kit, so the tires stick out past the fenders and then you can run it stock height with no rub? Not sure what your plan is for the final product of the build but that might be the best option. Wider track width and lower center of gravity will make it a lot more fun and capable.
Back in the late '70s and early '80s I had one of those cute Honda's and it was my daily driver. To get the engine out for a rebuild the front end had to be at least 3 feet off the ground for the subframe to clear everything. It was really good unless you had to go uphill, then you were downshifting a lot. That engine was nothing more than a modified motorcycle 600 CC engine for CV axles to make it front wheel drive. Shifter was mounted to the bottom of the dashboard. Four good sized men could pick it up at the corners and walk off with it or 2 or 3 could put it as a roadblock on a small street. I have a lot of fond memories of having one.
Longer arms wider, wheels clear outside the body, you get full suspension range and keep the wheels and it’s still capable. You should tube frame out the body I kinda figured you would but thought to say the fronts going to fold under its weight especially if you off-road awesome project it’s the thing that brought me to the channel.
Im thinking the body still needs to come down a couple more inches modify the wheel openings by straight cuts moving them foward to keep most of factory lips and just a little shaped filler piece in the middle and maybe 29-30in tires but liking it so far
I agree about lowering the body for the center of gravity, and using smaller tires... I'd like to see a more "all-terrain" rally-style tire, and some Cooper-style fender flares.
I would trim the fenders to fit then make metal weld on fender flares to fit the larger tires the way the body looks you're basically making a miniature version of the corvair that Matt uses as a recovery vehicle on Matt's off-road recovery but a SXS version the smell tire will look stupid with all the frame underneath it in my opinion I would make the fenders fit the larger tires
I agree with most of these posts...lift it with smaller tires. Looks awesome though. 👌 Don't cut the fenders too much and definitely don't add flares. Your whole concept of the body on that chassis looks awesome.
Cut the fenders, make some flares and use the big tires! It will make the wheel arch’s look more comparable with the tire size and give you the room you need to clear them. The wheel arch looks way too small now compared to the tires.. looks goofy. Other than that it look awesome. Great work man! Keep it up!
I love those old Hondas and while it's sad to see one this rotten, giving it life back with that polaris underneath it it's the best solution for a car that wont be repairable or subject to a restoration due to excessive oxide and the cost of parts and labour. Since I first saw your video buying it I knew this was going to be a crazy and fun series.
All you need is a fender flare . Your stance is perfect right now . Ask Paul from "Fab Ratz" . You need axel clearance . She has the perfect stance now
Smaller tires maybe a lift too, I wouldn't cut into the fenders it would change the look and feel of the whole thing a little too much imo. Also btw this is an awesome build it's gonna be so dope once it's done. 1 of a kind for sure! Gonna be a beast too lol
Dude I really admire what all you have done I just found your Chanel I hope to one day possess the skills you do man you have a new sub love to learn more can’t wait to see all these builds
An honest opinion from an Aussie down under. Smaller tires for sure and a 3inch lift would work. You don’t want to be cutting up such a beautiful body. Loving this build. Thanks for a great video.
This has the potential to be awesome. As much as I hate to say smaller tires and the lift, that may be the only option. Maybe order the tires and lift and do a side by side comparison. I would love to see if they will clear with full suspension travel without smaller tires, but without cutting the car who knows.
It originally came with 12” wheels, so since you’re putting bigger wheels and tires, make the wheel well opening match. These wheels or smaller, just make the body match. No more lift.
I would either cut the wheel wells, or get smaller tires...A lift might be too soft and wobbly for handling. If you cut the wheel wells, definitely do flares, I think it would look very mad max.
This build is awesome. I think you do smaller tires but with wider suspension arms. have it sit almost like a trophy truck. Throw a trophy truck decal on the side.
Just stack another 2x4 on top of the one you just tacked. That will give you an extra 4" body-only lift. If its still not high enough, then go for the suspension lift...But keep those big tires and the original shape of the fender wells. That's what makes it cool.
This is going to be one of those memorable little riggs that a guy would have a fun time with. This is the way these should have come from Honda. More horse power than originally given too. Yes lift and smaller tires should get the look with out hacking more than desired from the exterior maybe even a couple inches of wheal spacers to kick the tires out more would give a more stable platform with the wait of the steal topheavy stomper definitely a one of a kind build. I subscribed to see the final version. Too Cool for sure.
Go with 28 inch tires first and then you can get an idea about the size of lift you may need. This is absolutely one SAA-WEEEET little project that y'all have goin' on! The patina is cool, but just imagine it painted all purdy white and have the Japanese flag on the whole roof. Now that would totally be cool like that. People would be freakin' out over it. Tint the windows and the windshield too....😮!😊😅❤🇲🇰🇯🇵😆
Id go 29 inch skinny tires and might as well lift it. I put skinny tires on my tundra so I could clear just a bit bigger without rubbing and still not stick out from under the fender wells. (I hate slinging mud and road junk all over the sides of my truck) The traction increase was very noticeable with the skinnier tires, but i don't do super deep mud, mainly snow, rocky trails, and the watery mud that you want to touch bottom in, so if thick deep mud is in this things future skinny may be counter productive.
I'm is a Aussie from Australia and I think go with smaller tires and lift and maybe a small flared fenders 🤔 and hope you going to make inside dust proof with more sheet metal
I’d go to a 29 or 30” tire and see if you can’t get by without the lift. And no way would I cut the fenders on that classic. But just my opinion and I’m gonna watch either way. Love this project.
It would also look good with some really wide Street tires on it and drive it on the road. It would blow some minds . You could do that in Florida I don’t know about where you’re at. But lift and smaller tires is my vote
POLARIS RZR 900 4" PORTAL GEAR LIFT Choose a single or dual idler configuration SKU : PGH-1-44-151 $2,499.95 also they have a POLARIS RZR 900 8" PORTAL GEAR LIFT $3,899.95 IN STOCK
body looks good where its at I think smaller tires and maybe a small lift to keep as much of the fender arches as you can but either way it will be cool !
I say all 3 options. Get smaller tires, lift it and cut the fenders. As cool as it looks it's going to look so much better with good flares on it. Very very few off-road vehicles look decent without flares. Plus, if you do all 3 it's going to be so much more capable.
Definitely go with smaller tires. You'll need the suspension travel and a lift alone may not give you the amount of travel you need without hitting the fender. At least with smaller tires they'll fit the fender a little better.
Keep it low don’t wanna be to top heavy cut the fenders to fit and do some cool tube bumpers front and rear maybe even bring em around the sides and connect to the sliders Use tubing to follow the fenders where you cut so they have a strong lip around the fenders
28 / 10.5 inch super swampers would be perfect. Some type of king shocks, 4inch body lift and probably look into some. Chromaolly axle shafts, if you try to put the power down might break. Your rock sliders are good 👍
You DO need smaller tires, but I'd still hog the fenders and 3-D print some flares. I'd want to get the body as low as possible for center of gravity, barring headroom of course.
I have a 1971 Honda N600 that im trying to tidy up. Comparatively it's in a way better condition. If you still have those seat belts intact I would love to buy them from ya.
if you don't wanna cut the fenders up, you can try getting longer axle and A arms so that the wheels sit outside the body. Then you can get full suspension while the wheels still clear. Also, where are the original Polaris wheels? You could be using those.
Smaller tires with lift... don't cut the fenders..👍👍
For sure if ya want to keep that body mint but if ya throw some finder flairs on there after ya cut it would look really cool so that would be a good option as well
I agree....smaller tires will help all the way around
@@Lifestories964the body is the only thing original 😂mint condition is off the table 😂
If this were my build, I'd do the lift, and smaller tires but also maybe some spacers so you don't have to cut the body. The body is really the charm of the whole thing.
I agree the body is the build. Plus go a Lil bit the way it was small car smaller tiers.
I think it would look awesome with some Cooper-style flares, though.
The problem is… it looks perfect where it is (lift/wheel size.) it has good balance. I’d modify the fenders, and add flares to cover up the rough edges.
Lift and smaller tires. Excited to see where this goes. Gonna be sweet no matter what you decide.
Lift kit. Wheel spacers and custom A Arms. Make it as wide as possible. Love the Build
Can you widen the suspension, like a long travel kit, so the tires stick out past the fenders and then you can run it stock height with no rub? Not sure what your plan is for the final product of the build but that might be the best option. Wider track width and lower center of gravity will make it a lot more fun and capable.
Ha just said same thing be cool seeing that little Honda racing on ground it was never made for or flexed out.
Back in the late '70s and early '80s I had one of those cute Honda's and it was my daily driver. That made me recall the WWII Jeep chassis with the Nash Metropolitan body on top in Laytonville, CA, in the 1990s. That was also really cute.
Man 15x10 wheels and 295/50/15 white letter tires would be a rad look. I know it's not an off-road setup, but it sure would look wild.
I thought I was the only one!!!
Yes. Urban assault!
i was gonna say 225/50/17 all seasons for a rally fighter look
Im thinking the body still needs to come down a couple more inches modify the wheel openings by straight cuts moving them foward to keep most of factory lips and just a little shaped filler piece in the middle and maybe 29-30in tires but liking it so far

I love it!!! Don't cut fenders. Gives it that much more personality. Lift it!💪🏼
I would trim the fenders to fit then make metal weld on fender flares to fit the larger tires the way the body looks you're basically making a miniature version of the corvair that Matt uses as a recovery vehicle on Matt's off-road recovery but a SXS version the smell tire will look stupid with all the frame underneath it in my opinion I would make the fenders fit the larger tires
I'm in on this project 👍before I found you building this I was sizing up my daughter inlaws Fiat 500 it's the same wheelbase as my cfmoto 950 sport🤯
I agree with most of these posts...lift it with smaller tires. Looks awesome though. 👌

Nah, smaller tires!

Good lift, and try to preserve the fenders. I love the build great work !
It looks straight out of Mad Max or Metro 2033/Exodus. I dig this style of build and can't wait to try it out myself. Great job!
Dude I really admire what all you have done I just found your Chanel I hope to one day possess the skills you do man you have a new sub love to learn more can’t wait to see all these builds

10"
I think giving it a wider track with to be outside the body would be awesome
I new to the channel but dude this is got to be one of the coolest builds on youtube right now. Right cant wait to see it finished. good job buddy
First things first... Looks sick! Now, if it was my build before lift, I will cut the fenders first then probably lift...
You are totally right
I would either cut the wheel wells, or get smaller tires...A lift might be too soft and wobbly for handling. If you cut the wheel wells, definitely do flares, I think it would look very mad max.
That thing is looking awesome!!!! I want the old motor for a custom trike
You are bringing a Honda back to life
its now a pretty sweet honda.
Lift kit and smaller tires are the way to go !
This build is awesome. I think you do smaller tires but with wider suspension arms. have it sit almost like a trophy truck. Throw a trophy truck decal on the side.
Could also go full JDM style, cut the fenders and put on fender flairs.
Lol when you almost dropped the tailgate, my shop instinct took over " just throw it down"🤣
Just stack another 2x4 on top of the one you just tacked. That will give you an extra 4" body-only lift. If its still not high enough, then go for the suspension lift...But keep those big tires and the original shape of the fender wells. That's what makes it cool.
This reminds me of puddins fab shop in the early day. Your content has great potential.
For the fuel filler, run a hose across and utilize the stock Honda fuel door.
Those tires look great, plus you already have them.
Try small tires with lift first, you can always come back and cut fenders later if you want.
Wheel spacers a wider stance looks great crazy crazy
Just found your channel not sure why I haven’t seen it sooner lmao
welcome to the show!!
Also, the radio antenna was mounted in the drivers door pillar and had a special "ANT KEY" to allow it to pop up to extend it up in three sections.
Here in North Carolina it is legal to tag and drive side by sides
This is going to be one of those memorable little riggs that a guy would have a fun time with. This is the way these should have come from Honda. More horse power than originally given too. put some 28s on it with some 80's styled alloy wheels to give that old school put a samurai under a car body look
I really like the front bumper on that.
Add a comment.. smaller tires 4 sure. And don't worry accidental fires go with the territory. Love the build. I subscribed today.
I think you would be happy with 30 9.50 x15 tires same thing i ran on my 81 Jeep Wagoner and they fit great !! Good luck
The look on your face when the car fell 😂
Lift and smaller tires is the only right answer... The body is the key!
Tint the windows and the windshield too....😮!😊😅❤🇲🇰🇯🇵😆
Awesome build. Do they offer a portal lift for it
I think with the big tires it looks like a road legal Monster Mini Car. it has the feel that it's about to crush some cars.
It’s absolutely beautiful….a true man-cart
Id go 29 inch skinny tires and might as well lift it.
I put skinny tires on my tundra so I could clear just a bit bigger without rubbing and still not stick out from under the fender wells. (I hate slinging mud and road junk all over the sides of my truck)
The traction increase was very noticeable with the skinnier tires, but i don't do super deep mud, mainly snow, rocky trails, and the watery mud that you want to touch bottom in, so if thick deep mud is in this things future skinny may be counter productive.
Smaller tires and get wheels with a wider offset. You will likely still have to cut the front fenders for the turning radius.
Sick build, smaller tires for sure.
That' looks bad ass man great progress man I really am small tires for sure
I am new here… but really like it with the big tires and maybe just widen or slant edges of the wheel wells. I don’t think you need to lift it.
I think it’ll still look cool with smaller tires. I see your point in not wanting to cut into the body.
Build it in rally-style for best on and off-road performance. make it low, wide, tough, and grippy around corners.
It would also look good with some really wide Street tires on it and drive it on the road. It would blow some minds . You could do that in Florida I don’t know about where you’re at. But lift and smaller tires is my vote
I love how much it looks like an RC car. Lift it and go with smaller tires. Part of the charm is trying to keep the body unmodified I think.
I'm a big tire no lift guy so personally I would cut the fenders removing the rust at the same time and keep it low
That is going to be soooooo AWSOME !!!!!!!!
I'd get it street legal aswell lol use the Honda Vin and file as a rebuild haha find a wide body kit so you can run the bigger tires haha
POLARIS RZR 900 4" PORTAL GEAR LIFT

i think a lift and smaller tires would look better than cutting the fenders
Thats a rad lookin ride mate
Id put smaller tyres on it
I luv the way it looks .
Doing just the " small stuff ", on a car that is less than ten feet long.
(There about four of these where I have storage. ) tHanks for the video!!!
Look into a long travel A-arm kit? should pull the tires out about 3 inches each side. Might not have to lift or cut if the wheels clear outside.
Tires look fine. Lift more and widen the wheel with spacers
This thing is so rad!!!🤘
Neat little toy. I hope you paint it.
Put a lift on it. The big tires are what makes it so cool.
Spacers bring the wheels out and a lift with same tires 👍👍😁
I've done some sketchy stuff. You win.
It looks pretty cool like that. Don’t cut it and try to use as big of a tire as you can. It’s going to be awesome
Put long travel arms on it to get wheels outside the body and lower it.
Agreed don’t cut it go wider
body looks good where its at I think smaller tires and maybe a small lift to keep as much of the fender arches as you can but either way it will be cool !
I say all 3 options. Get smaller tires, lift it and cut the fenders. As cool as it looks it's going to look so much better with good flares on it. Very very few off-road vehicles look decent without flares. Plus, if you do all 3 it's going to be so much more capable.
This should be a factory option RZR!!
I love bizarre builds like this.
IDK what your plans are but, any off roading and that suspension is going to be traveling.
Definitely go with smaller tires. You'll need the suspension travel and a lift alone may not give you the amount of travel you need without hitting the fender. At least with smaller tires they'll fit the fender a little better.
Boggers and 15x12 wheels would be sick !
Smaller tires like 30” and a lift. Keep the body lines and don’t cut the fenders, like others said the small fenders gives it uniqueness.
OHSA is having a heart attack lol
Those tyres look very cool, maybe add the lift and some spacers.
Keep it low don’t wanna be to top heavy cut the fenders to fit and do some cool tube bumpers front and rear maybe even bring em around the sides and connect to the sliders
Use tubing to follow the fenders where you cut so they have a strong lip around the fenders
28 / 10.5 inch super swampers would be perfect. Some type of king shocks,
4inch body lift and probably look into some. Chromaolly axle shafts, if you try to put the power down might break. Your rock sliders are good 👍
You DO need smaller tires, but I'd still hog the fenders and 3-D print some flares. I'd want to get the body as low as possible for center of gravity, barring headroom of course.
I think it would look best no lift kit with slightly smaller tires, but you’ll still probably have to cut the arches for full compression.
I have a 1971 Honda N600 that im trying to tidy up. Comparatively it's in a way better condition. If you still have those seat belts intact I would love to buy them from ya.
Smaller tires and open up the wheelwells a little bit and try and lower the body down a bit.
I’m hooked. Looks like a micro machine on steroids. 🤙🤙🤙
Go for the lift and smaller tires.
if you don't wanna cut the fenders up, you can try getting longer axle and A arms so that the wheels sit outside the body. Then you can get full suspension while the wheels still clear.
Also, where are the original Polaris wheels? You could be using those.
Take the springs off the shocks and fit the body at full bump
