@@jcallesano That is incorrect and does not agree with the PowerHobby site. Two screws on the interior of each fan and you can use the spacers on them if you want for greater airflow. The heatsink should be tight against the motor to transfer the heat properly...thermal paste is a bonus.
I got a set of yeah racing dual fans with the spacers and it came with directions for how to use them, which was by putting your fans further away from the motor like people online were saying. If you don’t have any room between the fan and the motor the fan can’t move air
For the hundredth time, these aren't yeah racing. What some completely separate company said to do is irrelevant. And for the hundredth time, there are channels built Into the metal to pump air over the motor giving you the best possible cooling. Go look these up on eBay and look at 100% of every post and see how they have them set up. How I have them is correct. If yeah racing said to do it differently then do what that company said to do with their products. These aren't that.
@@jstagzsr wasn’t even tryin to be an ass but those channels are 1/16th of an inch deep and only move are across a tiny section of the motor since they go vertical and force air to travel along the length of the motor instead of letting air move around the motor effectively cooling only what the fans are directly on top of and at a limited amount at that. Just learning a lot from building a ton of pc heat sinks you need the heatsink itself to allow air movement through the fan instead of nearly blocking flow completely. If it’s up against the heatsink with the tiny tiny grooves these rc heatsink shave it doesn’t move air nearly as much as it would if it had a little space on either side. Just saying that’s facts regardless of what the spacers are for it’s a good idea to have some between the motor and the fans
How did you get the wires into the receiver box I haven’t installed mine yet should be delivered today for my kraton 6s v5. That was some good detail on your video thanks
The slot where the servo wires come out. You can reuse the same slot. No need to drill extra holes or anything. They make the slot in the receiver box bigger than it has to be for just that reason.

i cut that corner off and smoothed it out with a dremmel so it looked smooth and nice still. 3 out of 4 pins in that center piece is plenty strong imo. especially for the minimul jumping and very little impacts this car sees. its been a long time since ive had this and its still going strong with no issues.
@@Daywalker_27 no worries. you happened to catch me right as im sitting at my pc so i noticed the comment right away. And i just had to go look at mine again. Youre right there's only 2 actual clips. There are 4 sides of that center piece that mounts to the top of the center diff carrier but there's only 2 pins that hold in the 2 long bolts. I actually forgot i replaced mine with metal upgrades and they fit with both pins in. so i havent been running the cut down dremmeled plastic diff carier with the one pin. i would look in to some of the metal upgrades that fit better with the heatsink and fans.
Using the four spacers to mount the fans increases the surface area where the fans are blowing, thus allowing the fans to blow over a larger area of the heat sink, making it more efficient versus mounting them directly on the heat sink. You only need four spacers instead of eight because you are only using two spacers per each fan. I mount th fans using the four inner screw holes
Yeah and what happens to pressure when you take the same flow rate and spread it over a larger area? It dramatically lowers. Having slight air movement over a larger area of heatsink vs air forced through the channels and over the heat source (motor itself) means you're removing more heat from the can. I have 4 8th scale rc's and every single one of them have the fans as I have them in the video and even with extremely hard bashing with oversized tires with the speed gearing in the middle of summer my motor temps stay well under dangerous levels. I have never hit the thermal cutoff. And I have active temp monitoring on all rc's with my flysky noble. This isn't a guess. It's a tried and true proven method of using these heatsinks in the most efficient way possible.
Joshua...Nothing wrong with running a fan setup if you have stock gearing. I mean it cant hurt can it? I have stock gearing. What if i want to run a battery pack until depleted and than immediately slap another battery pack in and run that one until depleted or maybe 3 packs. I am sure the motor might heat up a bit by running 2-3 packs back to back.
So i am getting ready to order the PowerHobby Heatsink & Dual fan setup and you are saying the JST connectors will plug directly into my Spektrum SR315 receiver? I can use the AUX and BAT port as that is all that i have left on my 3 channel receiver. This guy on the Arrma forum is arguing saying that i need to plug the JST connectors into a "Y" splitter to make the fans work and plug into the ESC....what? He has me so confused.
well there are two fans. each with their own jst connector. So they Y splitter makes it so you can only use one spot on your receiver to power both fans. And some esc's have spots for fans.. Thats probably what hes talking about. Most esc's do not though.. The receiver is where you plug em in in the cases where your esc does not have its own fan plug.
I saw that too. Also says same in install booklet I got with the yeah racing version of this cooling add on. Style 1 shows no spacer fan lift. Style 2 shows fans raised width of spacers. Can't imagine the company putting out false instructions.
Which is stupid. Should come with 8. 4 for each. You van run the plasroc ones on a basher. These plastic ones on my erevo after one good flip were toast, they exploded. You need the same mount, THE ALUMINUM version fans and 4 more 10mm spacers.

From what I understand there is 1 company of the many who sell this product that has it in their instructions that you CAN use the spacers on the fans. But they're the only company that says anything about them and even that company only says they are optional. That is definitely the least efficient way of cooling the motor.

MAYBE on perfectly flat motor cans where less air can get through the channels it would have an impact (I didn't test that) but on my setup the way it is in the video provided the best cooling. Maybe I'll make a video on it. I bought a kraton since this vid and those have a flat can so i now have the ability to test it.
I decided to put the spacers on the fans to see how sturdy and believe it or not there is no wobble, it's really sturdy. Ultimately it's probably best to not use the spacers and put the fans directly in the heatsink . I can't imagine the temp change being different more then a couple degrees in either direction

No it's doesn't make perfect contact. The ribs on the motor can are for cooling. If it's still heating up I'd try a few options first. You still CAN use a heatsink and fan because they will still direct airflow down onto the motor so there will still be cooling, but not as efficiently as if it was a flat can and the heatsink pulled heat off the can and dissipated it with the fan.
I installed my the same setup on my V5 Kraton and the fans were like seized up or something they wouldn’t spin but they got super hot I was able to spend them a little freedom up but now neither one will work.
Very weird. If they were not spending but they were getting hot then they were probably screwed up from the factory. But that's weird that two fans would both do that at the same time. Where they plugged in backwards? They can only spend if they're plugged in one way. I would definitely return them and get new ones. Or do what I did. They sell 30 mm aluminum cased fans that are $28,000 RPMs 5 through 8 volts. Extremely good fans. I have two on my typhon and two on my V5 kraton. I recommend them to absolutely everybody.

That's like telling me im installing a part wrong on my Chevy truck because Ford tells you to do it different on your Ford. I'm aware Yeah Racing says you can stand them off the heatsink. But these are a different product made by a different company all together. Did you look up the pix on ebay? cuz itll be hard to even find one where the fans are installed on top of the standoffs. Thats an extremely inefficient way of cooling. Lightly blowing air over the top of the fins vs blowing high pressure air through the fins and directly over the motor.. Seems like it should be common sense.
@@jstagzsr Amazon ASIN B07ZPMTZX7 is the same product you have in the video, in red, and the description reads: “The fans can be installed directly to the heatsink or you can use the included 10mm spacers between the fans and the heatsink for enhanced airflow.” You would want 2-4mm spacers for any larger motor that this could potentially fit by bending it.
Yeah they're definitely for use with the longer screws and bigger motors. I had to research it in order to prove someone wrong on fb who was an obvious idiot. Lmao. The Hot Racing version of this kit I hear has better motors, but other than that they're all pretty much the same and these little kits are awesome!!!! I love it!
Let me guess...another stand off spacer believer. I will go with Joshua and bolt my fans directly to the heatsink. You go stand off and follow the Yeah racing instructions with 4 spacers.....where are the other 4 spacers to stand off....oh yeah thats right...you only need 4 spacers to stand off while it looks stupid that nothing is holding the other 4 parts of the fan off the heatsink....Let me know how that holds up with some hard bashing. I bet the fans get all smashed up because all parts of the fan arent supported by anything. I like this kit a lot but the only problem I had with it is that the bottom that the top heatsink holes threaded out really easily but I was able to to get it tightened
do you have it on a v4/v5 arrma? cuz it should fit perfectly.. A trick you can do is put something on the bottom like foam tape then put thermal paste on the whole top. Heat rises anyway so theoretically the top of the motor is more important to cool than the bottom.
Nice vid bro, I just picked up a Typhon 6S myself a week ago. I also noticed that this puppy gets HOT 🔥 when running on 6S. And that's with the stock gear, I haven't even put the 20T speed gear included. How has your temps been running ever since you have installed it?
I ran it all winter long on the speed gear with no fans and it was no issue. But as soon as summer hit even with the fans the speed gear was too much. Every time I ran it I would hit thermal cut off. So I switched back to the stock pinion and it still gets real hot but at least doesn't cut off from overheating.
@@jstagzsr Thanks for the info. yeah, it was over 80F here in CT today & after 5 minutes of bashing, that motor was pretty dang toasty! The ESC gets a bit warm, but I haven't had any cutoff issues (yet). I may either gear down some more or maybe even get a lower kv motor, maybe a 1700-1800kv (lower kv, lower RPM, hopefully lower temp w/more torque) since I'm only using this car for bashing. @@SunnySunny-wj3li they can be a little off and still work. If it's a little bit smaller it can still be squished onto the motor. And the tighter the better with heat transfer. What you don't want is to get one that's too big and it be loose on the motor.

fans are a very simple thing.. they either get power and work or dont get power and dont work. so if they arent working its because they arent getting power. i would try every port on your receiver, with the wires both ways. if none of them work its because the receiver isnt outputting 5v. you can run a small battery pack to them. just make sure its not too much power.
Although I recognize other brands with similar setups as this say to set it up differently, I'm gonna stick to what I have. I proved in this video there is great airflow with how I have it. And I would very much rather have the fans blowing the cool air over the motor AND strongly through the fins than not blowing over the motor at all and blowing weakly over the fins. There are channels in the heatsink for a reason. I haven't seen other brands in person but the way I have this set up is 100% correct.
@@jstagzsr yeah racing is identical, just different branded fans and heat sink. Same thing in reality and more money. Im skipping these things and going with a 40mm or 50mm server fan with 4x the cfm of these 30mmx10mm fans.
@@jcallesano yeah these tiny little 5v fans aren't shit compared to even a bottom end 12v server fan. I debated doing the same thing. But having to carry an extra 3s in my car for just one or two fans won't work. No room. I might 3d print something to make it work. Throw some noctuas in there.

The receicer can only dish out so much power base on what the BEC can provide. If not enough, go straight to the balance port. I have 2 - 8000mah packs for my infraction v2, so I'm not worried about the small draw.
@@jcallesano oh wow. They make a 12v fan? Thats perfect!! I'm grabbing two rn! And I don't like plugging things into the balance leads because then you're draining certain cells over other cells. Or in a dual 3s setup you're draining one battery more than the other. Thats a good way to burn your car to the ground. Or at a minimum lessen the life span. Those fans though are perfect. I'm gonna have to figure out how to make em work. Maybe an external bec. Or probably gonna have to carry a small like 1500mah 3s in there somewhere. Weird. I thought the fans were supposed to be blowing upwards away from heatsink to expel heat away from motor, and pulling air from outside the motor. So it’s essential sucking the heat away from motor and heatsink. Guess I was wrong.
As long as air is moving over the motor and fins it'll be cooling. But there's a way to move the air in the most efficient way for the most efficient cooling. Either way tho it not hurting anything.

My limitless overheats. Turns out it wasn't the motor at all but the esc. Next time check led on esc right after overheating. Check codes in instruction book for the car. My gearing was causing my issue
i hook this up to my arrma kraton 6s and i notice that one fan stops and start every couple minutes. do anybody know why that is? can the blx handle two 6v fans? im using a y-harness and a spektrum sr2100 receiver.
lol. Well i vape anyway so i might as well use what i got. I used to burn incense to test the fans. Anything that makes a stream of vapor/smoke can give you a good idea of the airflow
LOL....and some guy is saying the same thing about the spacers. He said they are to stand off the fans off the Heatsink and that you only need to put 2 on each fan.....that is why they only give you 4 spacers. You dont need to use 4 spacers for each fan. He showed the installation sheet from Yeah Racing showing that the spacers are mounted under the fans and that is the way they do it in RC racing applications. So who is right? The guy is saying your philosophy is wrong.
google this product. go to product pages. look them up on ebay and amazon.. for every 50 pictures that show it installed my way there will be 1 that shows the spacers used in the other way. So YOU do it however you want. It's not my rc thatll be overheating. either way you install them there will be some cooling from the air movement. but the way i have them installed is the best way.

A 6s ESC that can push 150amps.. I don't think the negligible pull of two small fans is too much. I guarantee the ESC doesn't even notice they're there.

to demonstrate good air flow to the motor, simply offer a piece of paper to the fans, if air is flowing to the motor the paper will be sucked in towards the fans. Thanks me later

The Powerhobby website states that the 10mm spacers are for the fans. The heatseak is designed only for motors around 40.8mm.

I run these on my erevo2.0 and it keeps the motor cool enough to touch. Still get warm, but I’d doesn’t burn me.

I’ve got the same setup for my V5 Kraton, how do you get the body clip in to the roll cage (heatsinks in the way)?

I have stock gearing. After one pack it still gets too hot to touch. With two or three packs it's going to be that much more hot.

@@jstagzsr hi josh, just to let you know the powerhobby instructions do say you can use the spacers in between the fans and the heat sink for extra air flow and cooling, i have installed these fans exactly the same as you, but im just letting you now.

Heat Sink features a lightweight aluminum construction with a dual cooling fan design. The heat sink is compatible with 1/8 scale motors around 40.8mm diameter and 57.9mm in length and includes two 30x30x10mm high-speed fans that peak around 18,000RPM @6v
The fans can be installed directly to the heatsink or you can use the included 10mm spacers between the fans and the heatsink for enhanced airflow.
Does the heatsink work OK with a ribbed motor? Just wondering cuz I would think that it wouldn't have good contact with the motor.
No it's doesn't make perfect contact. The ribs on the motor can are for cooling. If it's still heating up I'd try a few options first. You still CAN use a heatsink and fan because they will still direct airflow down onto the motor so there will still be cooling, but not as efficiently as if it was a flat can and the heatsink pulled heat off the can and dissipated it with the fan.
I installed my the same setup on my V5 Kraton and the fans were like seized up or something they wouldn’t spin but they got super hot I was able to spend them a little freedom up but now neither one will work.
Very weird. If they were not spending but they were getting hot then they were probably screwed up from the factory. But that's weird that two fans would both do that at the same time. Where they plugged in backwards? They can only spend if they're plugged in one way. I would definitely return them and get new ones. Or do what I did. They sell 30 mm aluminum cased fans that are $28,000 RPMs 5 through 8 volts. Extremely good fans. I have two on my typhon and two on my V5 kraton. I recommend them to absolutely everybody.
@@jstagzsr yeah I tried to plug them in to the Firma ESC directly and to the receiver still nothing. I ordered two of the aluminum ones. Thanks for the info.
@@dysfunctionalrc6939 the only thing I can think of is since the firma Bec is 7.4v stock, maybe the fans are 5v max so the extra 1.5v fried them..
Hello, yeah racing do the same fan and in the manual, you can if you want put the fan higher with the 4 black plastic cylinder. The other was right

@@Neow-AI appearing to be the same in pictures and being an identical product with identical installation instructions are two different things. That's like telling me im installing a part wrong on my Chevy truck because Ford tells you to do it different on your Ford. I'm aware Yeah Racing says you can stand them off the heatsink. But these are a different product made by a different company all together. Did you look up the pix on ebay? cuz itll be hard to even find one where the fans are installed on top of the standoffs. Thats an extremely inefficient way of cooling. Lightly blowing air over the top of the fins vs blowing high pressure air through the fins and directly over the motor.. Seems like it should be common sense.

You would want 2-4mm spacers for any larger motor that this could potentially fit by bending it.

Yeah they're definitely for use with the longer screws and bigger motors. I had to research it in order to prove someone wrong on fb who was an obvious idiot. Lmao.
The Hot Racing version of this kit I hear has better motors, but other than that they're all pretty much the same and these little kits are awesome!!!! I love it!
Your 'research' should include READING THE INSTRUCTIONS that comes with the kit. You are 100% wrong.
Let me guess...another stand off spacer believer. I will go with Joshua and bolt my fans directly to the heatsink. You go stand off and follow the Yeah racing instructions with 4 spacers.....where are the other 4 spacers to stand off....oh yeah thats right...you only need 4 spacers to stand off while it looks stupid that nothing is holding the other 4 parts of the fan off the heatsink....Let me know how that holds up with some hard bashing. I bet the fans get all smashed up because all parts of the fan arent supported by anything.
Every video i see on UA-cam with the Powerhobby heatsink and dual fan set up i see everyone screwing the fans directly to the Heatsink
I like this kit a lot but the only problem I had with it is that the bottom that the top heatsink holes threaded out really easily but I was able to to get it tightened
I was wondering. It's better to blow fresh air on the motor or blow the hot air outside ?
fresh air on the motor is more important

do you have it on a v4/v5 arrma? cuz it should fit perfectly.. A trick you can do is put something on the bottom like foam tape then put thermal paste on the whole top. Heat rises anyway so theoretically the top of the motor is more important to cool than the bottom.

Nice vid bro, I just picked up a Typhon 6S myself a week ago. I also noticed that this puppy gets HOT 🔥 when running on 6S. And that's with the stock gear, I haven't even put the 20T speed gear included.
How has your temps been running ever since you have installed it?
I ran it all winter long on the speed gear with no fans and it was no issue. But as soon as summer hit even with the fans the speed gear was too much. Every time I ran it I would hit thermal cut off. So I switched back to the stock pinion and it still gets real hot but at least doesn't cut off from overheating.
@@jstagzsr Thanks for the info. yeah, it was over 80F here in CT today & after 5 minutes of bashing, that motor was pretty dang toasty!
The ESC gets a bit warm, but I haven't had any cutoff issues (yet). I may either gear down some more or maybe even get a lower kv motor, maybe a 1700-1800kv (lower kv, lower RPM, hopefully lower temp w/more torque) since I'm only using this car for bashing.

Hi. Would you know what heatsink would fit on a 4585 motor? 4585 motor has a 48mm diameter.
I believe the size of the motor is the size of the model number. 4585 is 45mm x 85mm. So you'd need any heatsink that can do 45mm

@@SunnySunny-wj3li they can be a little off and still work. If it's a little bit smaller it can still be squished onto the motor. And the tighter the better with heat transfer. What you don't want is to get one that's too big and it be loose on the motor.

Not sure but they won’t work on my infraction...I even ordered the Y plugs and they won’t work
fans are a very simple thing.. they either get power and work or dont get power and dont work. so if they arent working its because they arent getting power. i would try every port on your receiver, with the wires both ways. if none of them work its because the receiver isnt outputting 5v. you can run a small battery pack to them. just make sure its not too much power.
USE THE SPACERS! AND GET 4 MORE SO ITS A FULLY SECURE INSTALL IF YOU DON'T,YOU CHOKE THE FANS. DO A TEST, I GUARANTEE IM RIGHT
Although I recognize other brands with similar setups as this say to set it up differently, I'm gonna stick to what I have. I proved in this video there is great airflow with how I have it. And I would very much rather have the fans blowing the cool air over the motor AND strongly through the fins than not blowing over the motor at all and blowing weakly over the fins. There are channels in the heatsink for a reason. I haven't seen other brands in person but the way I have this set up is 100% correct.
@@jstagzsr yeah racing is identical, just different branded fans and heat sink. Same thing in reality and more money. Im skipping these things and going with a 40mm or 50mm server fan with 4x the cfm of these 30mmx10mm fans.
@@jcallesano yeah these tiny little 5v fans aren't shit compared to even a bottom end 12v server fan. I debated doing the same thing. But having to carry an extra 3s in my car for just one or two fans won't work. No room. I might 3d print something to make it work. Throw some noctuas in there.

The receicer can only dish out so much power base on what the BEC can provide. If not enough, go straight to the balance port. I have 2 - 8000mah packs for my infraction v2, so I'm not worried about the small draw.

And I don't like plugging things into the balance leads because then you're draining certain cells over other cells. Or in a dual 3s setup you're draining one battery more than the other. Thats a good way to burn your car to the ground. Or at a minimum lessen the life span.
Those fans though are perfect. I'm gonna have to figure out how to make em work. Maybe an external bec. Or probably gonna have to carry a small like 1500mah 3s in there somewhere. Now that I know those fans exist im gonna figure that out asap! Thanks for the info!
Weird. I thought the fans were supposed to be blowing upwards away from heatsink to expel heat away from motor, and pulling air from outside the motor. So it’s essential sucking the heat away from motor and heatsink. Guess I was wrong.
As long as air is moving over the motor and fins it'll be cooling. But there's a way to move the air in the most efficient way for the most efficient cooling. Either way tho it not hurting anything.

Joshua Stagnitto good news. It runs fine with 2s LiPo, but with 3s it only runs for about ten minutes then stops. It all makes sense now. Thanks.
My limitless overheats. Turns out it wasn't the motor at all but the esc. Next time check led on esc right after overheating. Check codes in instruction book for the car. My gearing was causing my issue
i hook this up to my arrma kraton 6s and i notice that one fan stops and start every couple minutes. do anybody know why that is? can the blx handle two 6v fans? im using a y-harness and a spektrum sr2100 receiver.

yeah they must be plugged in wrong then.. theres many ways to plug them in wrong where they wiont work, only one way to plug them in correctly

lol. Well i vape anyway so i might as well use what i got. I used to burn incense to test the fans. Anything that makes a stream of vapor/smoke can give you a good idea of the airflow
why are you running fans if your motor is all stock? you dont need any fans if your running the stock gearing.
LOL....and some guy is saying the same thing about the spacers. He said they are to stand off the fans off the Heatsink and that you only need to put 2 on each fan.....that is why they only give you 4 spacers. You dont need to use 4 spacers for each fan. He showed the installation sheet from Yeah Racing showing that the spacers are mounted under the fans and that is the way they do it in RC racing applications. So who is right? The guy is saying your philosophy is wrong.
google this product. go to product pages. look them up on ebay and amazon.. for every 50 pictures that show it installed my way there will be 1 that shows the spacers used in the other way. So YOU do it however you want. It's not my rc thatll be overheating. either way you install them there will be some cooling from the air movement. but the way i have them installed is the best way.
@@jstagzsr No....i agree with you. I have this guy literally arguing with me saying there is increased airflow with the spacers under the fans and its plain physics. I am trying to explain to him the way you said it is more efficient with the fans bolted right on top of the Heatsink and he just is up Yeah Racings butt saying that is the way they show to do it and that is correct.

This is actually a pretty big argument between rc people.. spacers or no spacers.. maybe it's my background in pc liquid cooling and dealing with radiators for years and years.. but it makes no sense imo to use the spacers.. people will argue till they're blue in the face about it though on either side..

i dont think the blx185 can handle the draw from to fans , i only use one now!
A 6s ESC that can push 150amps.. I don't think the negligible pull of two small fans is too much. I guarantee the ESC doesn't even notice they're there.

Do not use the screws that come with it. Strip so easy!! 2 sets both stripped. 3 screws
to demonstrate good air flow to the motor, simply offer a piece of paper to the fans, if air is flowing to the motor the paper will be sucked in towards the fans.
