I’m a massive J. Cole fan, and I am extremely disappointed in this. It shows weakness, when it was just hip hop. It’s a competition and it’s a sport, and we walked right up to the opposing team with tears in his eyes asking for forgiveness after he scored on them. Sad.

Cole and Kendrick have been dissing each other for yearsssss and I honestly do not know why it’s just now catching traction. But they’ve been doing this for such a long time and have always said in interviews that it’s just love and playfully jabbing at the other. But now Cole feels a type of way because A- he didn’t even want to do the diss. More than likely he would’ve just thrown another small shot after some time but everyone gassed him up to do a diss track. And B- the song created a lot of negative energy and Cole’s not about that.

I agree with you. I don't want to see things get personal or low blows taken, but I was looking forward to the battle in the spirit of rap. Just like 2 friends talking $hit back and forth. I don't like the backtracking so soon after he dropped it. They should let it ride and have a little fun with this back and forth, but Cole doing this makes me think he doesn't want that smoke. Out of all the disses so far in 2024, I was looking forward to this back and forth... Like LL and Kook Mo Dee back in the day.

On the one hand, it's my favorite song on the album, on the other, I respect his stance. To me, it doesn't take away from anything he's said on other tracks cause I see it as "I will take you on if you step to me, if we've got real beef then let's go" but... There is no real beef between him and Kendrick, they both respect each other, they both think the other puts out great shit, and they both acknowledge that about one another. This isn't him punching down on someone coming after him or up at someone belittling him, this is him throwing a small jab across their level and saying... "wait, we don't even have a reason to fight." If they wanna test each other. Hopefully, this olive branch leads to a collab, full album, let them go together and see who takes it that way.
