Yes you should buy it. I’ve had this tent for over 2 years now and use it regularly on my bike packing trips, great tent and its stood up to some really heavy winds and rain around the North East of England, just use all the available guy points like any tent. Never a problem with condensation and always keeps me dry and I’ve only bent 1 tent peg. Loads of headroom and space. Combined with the footprint makes it into an outer pitch first tent, which I’ve had to do on a few occasions… Its very similar in design to the MSR Hub NX but with a better built-in floor extension you mention but a lot cheaper - its modular too, in that each main part is replaceable, if you rip the outer you can purchase just that as a replacement, rather that buying a whole new tent from China, plus the 5 years warranty…. You also missed the two-way zips on the doors that mean you can ventilate at the top if you need and the storm ‘rain flaps’ inside the vent areas, so the rain can’t blow up the fly and drip inside the tent… I think you set the ‘eyebrow’ pole up wrong (7.10) - the yellow ribbon goes to the yellow end and the black ribbon to the black end. Shame Decathlon is viewed as a budget or lower-end brand, as everything I’ve bought from there seems fit for purpose and has the return warranty too… I’ve been waiting for someone to do a review of it in the UK as there’s very little on UA-cam… Brilliant tent, I couldn’t recommend it enough - that’s for sharing 👍
I’ve got this tent and have used it in a storm (on relatively sheltered ground but the rain was torrential for a few hours). We stayed dry! I have the footprint too as I always like to use them to prolong the life of tents.
I’ve got the one person version of this tent. I used it on my ridgeway hike, 3 days in South Wales & multiple nights out. I love it’s simplicity. With the extra ground sheet you can pitch the outer first.
Nice to see somebody who is genuinely enthusiastic about a product. I love the idea of the ground sheet in the vestibule. I wonder how many competitors will copy that idea for next year.
Looks cool. Nice to see em pushing the design aspects and making new things. Decathalon has a sale every year . So this could be a great buy if ya get it on discount. I think it is a tad pricey at retail value. But it is great to see budget minded companies joining the camping/hiking scene. The brand names are really price gauging and trying to make this recreation for rich people. So Power to Decathalon for getting their foot in the market and giving em a run for the money. It’s an MSR copy, but the general MSR design is excellent so all good. I saw this tent whilst on holiday and honestly thought it was an old MSR model, until I paid further attention to the label. I am really digging the Forclaz stuff, just bought a 50L sack for my teenage Son, but after checking all the features I will need to steal it occasionally for my own trips. The Decathlon stuff is good and very well priced. Thanks for the vid.
One big advantage for the UK and the wet and damp climate and summer dew is that its made from 20d Polyester which is lightweight but does not retain moisture and sag like the thin 20d nylon on the rivals to this tent that all feature on Naturehike tents. Also it comes with better poles in the Yunan Korean poles than the Naturehike with the cheap generic 7001 grade Chinese alloy poles. Its a much better tent than a Naturehike with a 5 year warranty and Decathlon are one of the best places for actually honouring warranty. I would take a guess a warranty with Naturehike would be near on impossible to honour. All those pegs want too is some paracord or Dynema looping through and they are good pegs especially for harder summer ground. The fly sheet is also closer to the ground than the Chinese tents making it much more a true 3 season tent with the polyester material fly that is more low profile, a lot better than really high profile saggy nylon on Naturehike. This is much better than those tents in all aspects. $0d floor is much better than most of the Naturehikes with thin 20d floors. You would not really need a footprint with this like those.
You can get polyester versions of naturehike tents, and they're usually cheaper. Overall people tend to prefer the nylon cos it's lighter and has other better qualities like I think silicone lasts longer than the polyurethane that polyester tents tend to be treated with.
you are xorrect. My naturehike poles bent quite easily and its 20d floor started leaking after 3 years. replaced it with this one, still not tested though.
I bought the 1 person version about a month ago (1.300g w/o footprint). It served me well during a 6 day bikepacking trip in Germany and Austria. Can't say anything about rain and wind because we had none. I really like the easy setup and features like the roof pockets and den groundsheet outside the sleeping area. Another great feature is the short length of the tent poles (37cm), which enables more options to carry them on a bike or a backpack. The quality seems decent but not comparable to my 25 year old Hilleberg Nallo 3 which was too heavy and bulky for the trip.
I bought the 3 person version of this tent shortly after it came out it seems nearly 2 years ago. I remember scouring social media everywhere before buying for reviews but couldn’t find any so just took a chance. At the time the 3 person version was the same price the 2 person is now so £50 cheaper, so happy I snapped it up then. I also bought the footprint too. It’s been used in Wales during some relatively heavy days of rain and stood up really well. Bit windy but not stormy so can’t comment on that, and then in the Lake District in the heat so was very grateful for all the mesh. I carry some extra MSR pegs anyway, but I’ve found the pegs that come with it absolutely fine, though I do currently only go to actual campsites. I love that the outdoor Zip pulls up the door with it as you open so it’s not flying around everywhere & like you said love the extra groundsheet area in the porches. Definitely made a difference during the wet weather I had especially in Wales when my pitch was on a slight slope with that end pointed into it. The 3 person version also has the added hidden fully protected porch at the head end accessed only via a zipped opening in the inner which I also love. I’ve thought it looks a bit like a small space craft due to its colour but have grown to love its appearance. Also super simple and quick to put up & down, takes me little more than 5 minutes even just by myself. I’ve since bought the 1 person version as well with matching footprint, though haven’t yet used it. I’ve tested putting it up in the garden though and again super easy, however not sure if just me but the quality of the material & plastic attachments on the inner for the cross bar & ground sheet clip don’t feel quite as robust as the 3 person version I have. Will see. Great products though for their weight and pack size & great shout out for it, as surprisingly still don’t think this product has that many reviews.
This looks like a fantastic tent, and great review! I’ve been looking for a 2 person tent and one of my essential features is integrated vestibule ground sheets. I had snobbishly dismissed Decathlon tents, but I take it all back (please forgive me Decathlon) - I can't believe this is the ONLY tent I’ve found with an integrated vestibule groundsheet feature. So its a winner for me. If anyone knows of any others with this feature please share!

I have a way more basic Decathlon tent for about 6 or 7 years with tenths of uses and it's still in pretty good shape. Quality is not an issue, price is usually competitive and they're now making good, technical equipment for intensive use.
Maybe I’m missing something but I’m from north Scotland and iv been camping about a year and been about 20 odd times in wind and rain my tent was 40 quid a euro hike backpacker deluxe lol it’s still in good nick
Nice looking tent at a good price and love the vestibule grounsheets. Looks very similar to my MSR Hubba Hubba NX and you can see where the lower price has come from in the weight and general fixing quality. Great option for the price though!
It’s around double the weight of the Hubba Hubba and half the price so I guess that’s fair. The NatureHike Mongar 2 is lighter and cheaper but the warranty is lacking.
I love tents with structured tent poles, because they can be pitched free standing and moved around. This Decathlon tent looks marvelous, but I wouldn't buy it, not because it's not a great tent, but because I'm a small Asian guy and a 2kg tent is just too much weight. I'm getting older now and physical strength eludes me more and more.
I must say, I do prefer 'proper' sport-specific outdoor brands but you really can't fault the value for money Decathlon show on nearly all their products. They've done themselves proud here.
Companion 2 man tent 2kg 80 quid.Ive used it for 10yrs reproofed it once and still like new.Had it in 2 supercell storms in Qld Aus and it has took a major beating with cyclonic winds and rain. Totally underated and is a steal of price and quality.
@@BackpackingUK Most definitley is.Whenever someone asks me what 4 season tent to buy i always recommend getting the companion.They made a 1 man but they discontinued it many years ago. The biggest stand out was it surviving to extremely dangerous storms.It was solid. And i dont have any afiliation to the company just credit where credit is due for a tent that stands with 400 quid tents.

I thought the same as you about the pegs when I bought my first decathlon tent. I have used the same pegs and tent for about 15 years now and the pegs and tent have always been great. I was glad to stand corrected on the pegs.
I hve had a very good look at many permium tents. I could not see the added value of those big brands. So, I ended up buying the two person tent. No regrets. The desighn is fabulous! The revieuw does not justice to all the clever design features. The engineers have really had a good time designing this. One more thing, the pegs are just fine for me…
You mentioned you rather have brands with "proper R&D". You might want to look into Decathlons R&D. They put "proper" companies to shame with the amount of R&D they do. You can see this in their products. Just take the tent you're reviewing. The functions and features on this tent alone can't be found on plenty of "high end" tents. Not only that but the execution of some features is much better. I've been hiking for a very long time and I'm fortunate that I have plenty of money to spend on gear so I have a lot of "high end" stuff from a bunch of companies. Just mentiona whatever company and I probably have at least 2 of their products. So I've always used high end stuff but I've found myself "downgrading" to Decathlon stuff. Why? Because it's much better! I have plenty of tents, backpacks, hiking pants, pillows but I've replaced much of that with Decathlon.
I sold two expensive sleeping bags and got the MT 900 down bag, the other was hand made to size Cumulus bag and the other a Marmot and I can say the Forclaz 900 sleeping bag is warmer and better fit and more ell thought out with a unique design, also they do four sizes and all are the same price for all four sizes. I paid the same for my XL bag as my partner did for her small size/ Also the down jacket Forclaz make is superior to most at three time the price. The warranty is great with decathlon too
Great effort from Decathlon. They were on my shortlist for a 3 season tent. I chose the the Sierra Designs Meteor 2 -3.000, but there wasn't much in it as regards quality. Lots of fantastic value 3 season tents around at the moment.
I have the 1P version of this tent. Used it for the South Downs Way thru hike in june 2021. the extended groundsheet for the porch is excellent. the pegs are fine, but of course if you expect softer ground of wet weather, change them up. side was fine, changing clothes inside was a bit of a challenge; upside is it packs in a couple of 3l drybags, with room to spare. I'm not a fan of that grey 'canopy' that the inner tent has, because it helps trap heat, and you really want it to go up and away, but it was probably a compromise because the top vents on the fly sheet may let some rain in.
Like the vestibules. They are bigger/better than my Snugpak Scorpion 2 and tent is much higher too but Scorpion 2 is a 4 season tent which you can still get for £233 if you shop around. I still like this and would consider it to use instead of the Scorpion 2 for 6 months of the year here in the grim wet North. Thanks for the good review.
Banging tent for the price of got the MT 900 tarp from Decathlon and its great product and quality and iv uesd it in heavy rain no problem great reviews
Hey i also own the trek 900 2p, and the material of the connecting pices were the tent pols go in is not of plastic but of aluminium.I first believed that theas were plastic too, but then I rubd the paint layer of and behind it comes solid aluminium. So there is no quality concern.
I'm currently divided between this and the Wild Country Helm Compact 2 - at the moment there's only a tenner between the prices. This seems to have better features, but the Helm is a nice stealthy green. The Helm is slightly heavier, but also seems to have a smaller pack size. Hmmm. 🤔
I have the mt900 UL, little less space inside but much quicker to set up, inner tent is also attached so handy in rain. Also a bit lighter - same price. But i guess it comes to personal preference.
So 300g more than the MSR but less than half the price, and with a 40d floor? Yes please! For 1, definitely, for 2 you might want the non-tapered width of a different design.

I have both the Mirage 200 and the Helvellyn 200 and last winter I took the Helvellyn by accident for a night on Kinder in typical Kinder Winter weather and much to my surprise, it took it. Still, be nice if they did a meshier inner for midsummer use like Hilleberg do for some of their models as it gets a bit sweaty. :)
£220, havn't worked out why this is so expensive. Doesn't look any great shakes. I'm pretty sure there are much better options out there for less money.
Nice vid Andy, I've looked at this a few times. Like u I really like the built in vestibule, very unique. Quite similar to the MSR Elixr 2 that I have so never purchased. Cracking tent for someone starting out though. ATB Paul 👍
I try and buy aftermarket groundsheets for my tents that cover the vestibules but this has them built in. I wish more tent brands did this. It saves weight too!
Well sorted tents , like the vestibule ground sheet , pegs bit cheap and it’s all the money at £200 lots of choice from 3ful and Naturehike at that level , time will tell , nice viddy👍

love decathlon kit, I have loads of there stuff as I live within 2 miles of there Nottingham branch. I’ve seen the bit of plastic your talking about and whilst I agree the 5 year warranty is fantastic, a warranty is no use to you half way up a mountain in Scotland and the bugger fails on you. On this point alone it would be a no from me…… I never understand why companies cheap out on things like this. What would it have cost decathlon to have the part made in metal compared to plastic…..£2 extra maybe…. I mean really it’s not like they aren’t making a good profit on it. You can sort of understand on their cheaper models but you top spec tent it’s just penny pinching.

I can't do that, but I can tell you it's got one door and one vestibule plus the internal height is about 10cm lower, so this may impact you if you are a taller person.
Excellent video! After watching your video on Nature Hike Cloud Up 2, I can't decide which one to get. I live in a warmer climate and my previous tent had really poor ventilation, do you know which one has better ventilation or is better for summer use?
The Cloud Up 2 is much less suited to warmer clients, you'd be better off with a Mongar 2 or Nebula 2 if you're looking at Naturehike tents. Check out my other videos.
I'm currently trying to decide between this and a Cloud Peak 2, mostly for solo camping site visits but maybe some wild camping some day. Both have things I love and don't like so much, so I think its gonna be a hard choice. Good to see another review of it though.
@@MrAndRob I am leaning towards it, but I don't love the new door design, heard rain can drip into the inner if doors are open in rain as not much overhead on vestibule, plus with the Forclaz I like the ground sheet in the vestibule and also that can pitch without the outer in hot/dry weather. Will probably go for Cloud Peak in the end, but both have bits I like and dislike
Totally agree, dont think there is 1 perfect, 1 size fits all. I ended up buying 3 tents this year. Cloud peak 2 Lanshan 2 - which is good, and lightweight but its hard work in the wind. Also got a cloud up 3 so can take my boy with me. All have their good points but all different. I think the Decathlon.one looks great to be honest, especially at that weight.
That’s a really tough one. Both are great tents for the price. I’d say the Decathlon is probably better suited to warmer weather, it’s definitely a 3 season tent.
From my point of view reviewing gear (in general) is about talking specs, showing how it works, talking about the positives and negatives and personal use. If I’m missing something please let me know.
@@4BB4S Nah. The fabrics is simply not enough waterproof for the price. You should look over at least 4000-6000mm Flysheet tents if you planning to stay dry during your days out. For 200 quid you can also look for ultra light Chinese tents with around 4000mm top sheet but at least they will save you a lot of room and weight if you are walking or biking. Well. In short there are way better options around! Way better!
@@tangentsmith2961 Nope. Higher numbers does not = better. I'm afraid it's just marketing fluff, like putting racing stripes on cars. It's all about the type of material, the quality of the seams and how it is treated. All MSR backpacking tents have a HH of 1500 and are the go to tents for most backpackers where money is no object. The old favourite Gelert Solo also had a 1500 and it was the tent everyone had before the days of the UA-cam expert. I believe the North Face domes at Everest Basecamp have a HH of around 800..or at least they used to. If you ever have a column of water on your fly that is anywhere near 1500mm, you'll need an oxygen tank and breather, not a tent with big numbers.

The only thing is, that people are taking tents outdoors for decades now and there are tons of large group examples when less waterproofed fabrics start leaking first while well waterproofed tents stay dry even if you fold and setup your tents every day during the rainy weather. But who am I to teach you! One day you get your arse wet and freezing and I hope to see you back. By the way there are comments under MSR products including tents. Not sure why there are so many people giving them 2 and 3 stars. Maybe because all these large companies are all about marketing BS. If you are not banned from youtube you can find videos how way cheaper Chinese tents survive Icelandic storms for example while expensive branded tents get ripped apart and their shocked owners running around under heavy rain and winds. So yeah! I completely agree! It is marketing!

It is a good tent everything is good on it except the zips. Flimsy plastic thin zips. The ground sheet could do with more waterproofness. Not a backpackers tent. Most important thing on a tent is poles, floor and zips. The zips on this tent broke after 4 months and the doors were useless. The floor isn't waterproof at all. Good in summer, I had it in Southern Spain so temps in tent where getting to 45° so left the top cover off. Yeah and the pegs are crap. Ok for dry days not full time. Highpeak are good tents or the vango from go outdoors in the UK. Go from for reference. That's the tent you need. 👍 the zips are strong, it's green so it camouflages better.
Would you be able to do a review on the tamar 2 from go outdoors , blacks, millets etc.. is available for 45 from GO from 90 currently but average sale is around £60-70 in the other shops Have seen a couple reviews online but you do it best, think its one of the best entry level / starter tents as is great value, could be lighter but you don't get it all for cheap lol. Keep up the videos also mate, just getting into bikepacking myself amd have really enjoyed your down to earth style and info packed truthful thoughts. Would be great to see you camp in Wales, some amazing views as I'm sure you know a little of from travels👀🏴
I've got the Tamar 2. I paid £25 for it last Black Friday! It's an unbelievable tent for the money. It's definitely more of a camping tent than backpacking tent though.

Can anyone help? Andy mentioned the floor material is 40d and is potentially weak. I am between this and a cloud peak 2 which has a 20d floor. I am confused though because I thought 20d was thinner than 40d but no one seems to say the cloud peak is weak. What am I missing?
I think you're right about Big Agnes. Naturehike have a similar copy too. I think people don't review Decathlon kit often because it's not seen as a specialist brand. This maybe true, but it doesn't mean their products aren't just as good.
What do you think about naturehike cloudup2 compared with mt900? And you think that a groundsheet is needed for mt900 or the fabric will handle some use?
What features does a 'good' tent peg have please? Quickly pitching the outer flysheet first on my Hobo Fan tent has often kept me dry when I've seen a storm blowing up.

Another great feature is the short length of the tent poles (37cm), which enables more options to carry them on a bike or a backpack.
The quality seems decent but not comparable to my 25 year old Hilleberg Nallo 3 which was too heavy and bulky for the trip.

I bought the 3 person version of this tent shortly after it came out it seems nearly 2 years ago. I remember scouring social media everywhere before buying for reviews but couldn’t find any so just took a chance. At the time the 3 person version was the same price the 2 person is now so £50 cheaper, so happy I snapped it up then. I also bought the footprint too. It’s been used in Wales during some relatively heavy days of rain and stood up really well. Bit windy but not stormy so can’t comment on that, and then in the Lake District in the heat so was very grateful for all the mesh. I carry some extra MSR pegs anyway, but I’ve found the pegs that come with it absolutely fine, though I do currently only go to actual campsites. I love that the outdoor Zip pulls up the door with it as you open so it’s not flying around everywhere & like you said love the extra groundsheet area in the porches. Definitely made a difference during the wet weather I had especially in Wales when my pitch was on a slight slope with that end pointed into it. The 3 person version also has the added hidden fully protected porch at the head end accessed only via a zipped opening in the inner which I also love. I’ve thought it looks a bit like a small space craft due to its colour but have grown to love its appearance. Also super simple and quick to put up & down, takes me little more than 5 minutes even just by myself.
I’ve since bought the 1 person version as well with matching footprint, though haven’t yet used it. I’ve tested putting it up in the garden though and again super easy, however not sure if just me but the quality of the material & plastic attachments on the inner for the cross bar & ground sheet clip don’t feel quite as robust as the 3 person version I have. Will see. Great products though for their weight and pack size & great shout out for it, as surprisingly still don’t think this product has that many reviews.

This looks like a fantastic tent, and great review! I’ve been looking for a 2 person tent and one of my essential features is integrated vestibule ground sheets. I had snobbishly dismissed Decathlon tents, but I take it all back (please forgive me Decathlon) - I can't believe this is the ONLY tent I’ve found with an integrated vestibule groundsheet feature. So its a winner for me. If anyone knows of any others with this feature please share!
I think a lot of cheaper tents are overlooked but some of them have cracking features!

I have a way more basic Decathlon tent for about 6 or 7 years with tenths of uses and it's still in pretty good shape. Quality is not an issue, price is usually competitive and they're now making good, technical equipment for intensive use.
I bought the Forclaz Mt 500 Fresh and black because I can pitch everything in at once, it's a lot heavier but I don't mind.
Maybe I’m missing something but I’m from north Scotland and iv been camping about a year and been about 20 odd times in wind and rain my tent was 40 quid a euro hike backpacker deluxe lol it’s still in good nick

Nice looking tent at a good price and love the vestibule grounsheets. Looks very similar to my MSR Hubba Hubba NX and you can see where the lower price has come from in the weight and general fixing quality. Great option for the price though!
Yes, it's another MSR lookalike! Some of the features are great though!
It’s around double the weight of the Hubba Hubba and half the price so I guess that’s fair. The NatureHike Mongar 2 is lighter and cheaper but the warranty is lacking.
I love tents with structured tent poles, because they can be pitched free standing and moved around. This Decathlon tent looks marvelous, but I wouldn't buy it, not because it's not a great tent, but because I'm a small Asian guy and a 2kg tent is just too much weight. I'm getting older now and physical strength eludes me more and more.

I must say, I do prefer 'proper' sport-specific outdoor brands but you really can't fault the value for money Decathlon show on nearly all their products. They've done themselves proud here.
Companion 2 man tent 2kg 80 quid.Ive used it for 10yrs reproofed it once and still like new.Had it in 2 supercell storms in Qld Aus and it has took a major beating with cyclonic winds and rain.
Totally underated and is a steal of price and quality.

@@BackpackingUK Most definitley is.Whenever someone asks me what 4 season tent to buy i always recommend getting the companion.They made a 1 man but they discontinued it many years ago.
The biggest stand out was it surviving to extremely dangerous storms.It was solid.
And i dont have any afiliation to the company just credit where credit is due for a tent that stands with 400 quid tents.
Where did you buy the companion from? I can only see it on "snowys" in Australia and its around £120 delivery on top

I thought the same as you about the pegs when I bought my first decathlon tent. I have used the same pegs and tent for about 15 years now and the pegs and tent have always been great. I was glad to stand corrected on the pegs.

I hve had a very good look at many permium tents. I could not see the added value of those big brands. So, I ended up buying the two person tent. No regrets. The desighn is fabulous!
The revieuw does not justice to all the clever design features. The engineers have really had a good time designing this.
One more thing, the pegs are just fine for me…

You mentioned you rather have brands with "proper R&D". You might want to look into Decathlons R&D. They put "proper" companies to shame with the amount of R&D they do. You can see this in their products. Just take the tent you're reviewing. The functions and features on this tent alone can't be found on plenty of "high end" tents. Not only that but the execution of some features is much better.
I've been hiking for a very long time and I'm fortunate that I have plenty of money to spend on gear so I have a lot of "high end" stuff from a bunch of companies. Just mentiona whatever company and I probably have at least 2 of their products. So I've always used high end stuff but I've found myself "downgrading" to Decathlon stuff. Why? Because it's much better! I have plenty of tents, backpacks, hiking pants, pillows but I've replaced much of that with Decathlon.

I sold two expensive sleeping bags and got the MT 900 down bag, the other was hand made to size Cumulus bag and the other a Marmot and I can say the Forclaz 900 sleeping bag is warmer and better fit and more ell thought out with a unique design, also they do four sizes and all are the same price for all four sizes. I paid the same for my XL bag as my partner did for her small size/ Also the down jacket Forclaz make is superior to most at three time the price. The warranty is great with decathlon too
I really like this but a big put off is that you fit the inner first. Is there a way to fit the outter first or is it a bit of a faff

Great effort from Decathlon. They were on my shortlist for a 3 season tent.
I chose the the Sierra Designs Meteor 2 -3.000, but there wasn't much in it as regards quality.
Lots of fantastic value 3 season tents around at the moment.
You're right, there's some great 3 season tents out there. 4 season is much more difficult!

I have the 1P version of this tent. Used it for the South Downs Way thru hike in june 2021.
the extended groundsheet for the porch is excellent.
the pegs are fine, but of course if you expect softer ground of wet weather, change them up.
side was fine, changing clothes inside was a bit of a challenge; upside is it packs in a couple of 3l drybags, with room to spare.
I'm not a fan of that grey 'canopy' that the inner tent has, because it helps trap heat, and you really want it to go up and away, but it was probably a compromise because the top vents on the fly sheet may let some rain in.

Like the vestibules. They are bigger/better than my Snugpak Scorpion 2 and tent is much higher too but Scorpion 2 is a 4 season tent which you can still get for £233 if you shop around. I still like this and would consider it to use instead of the Scorpion 2 for 6 months of the year here in the grim wet North. Thanks for the good review.
I think if you camped all year round you would definitely want another tent too.
I have the 1 person version and love it. It doesn't feel tight despite its small size. I had rain and stormy weather in this tent. No problem.

Hey i also own the trek 900 2p, and the material of the connecting pices were the tent pols go in is not of plastic but of aluminium.I first believed that theas were plastic too, but then I rubd the paint layer of and behind it comes solid aluminium. So there is no quality concern.

I'm currently divided between this and the Wild Country Helm Compact 2 - at the moment there's only a tenner between the prices. This seems to have better features, but the Helm is a nice stealthy green. The Helm is slightly heavier, but also seems to have a smaller pack size.

Many people are torn between the two. I usually say the Helm is better for adverse weather conditions and the MT900 for better weather conditions.
I have the mt900 UL, little less space inside but much quicker to set up, inner tent is also attached so handy in rain. Also a bit lighter - same price. But i guess it comes to personal preference.

It's much lighter than the MSR Elixir and much cheaper than the Nemo!
So 300g more than the MSR but less than half the price, and with a 40d floor? Yes please! For 1, definitely, for 2 you might want the non-tapered width of a different design.

Yes, but the Vango Helvellyn is more like a 4 season tent so you could use yours all year round.
@@BackpackingUK Thankfully, as I found out. I have both the Mirage 200 and the Helvellyn 200 and last winter I took the Helvellyn by accident for a night on Kinder in typical Kinder Winter weather and much to my surprise, it took it.
Still, be nice if they did a meshier inner for midsummer use like Hilleberg do for some of their models as it gets a bit sweaty. :)

I try and buy aftermarket groundsheets for my tents that cover the vestibules but this has them built in. I wish more tent brands did this. It saves weight too!

It's a tough price point, especially as it's a bit more money than some other brands. However, you can't overlook the 5 year warranty.
You can get a basic Marmot tent at this price point too ...
Did I miss this in the vid...you said there was something you really didn't like but you can get around it? But then I don't remember you saying what that was! Looks like a good tent all round but I'd be more tempted at £150 :-)

love decathlon kit, I have loads of there stuff as I live within 2 miles of there Nottingham branch. I’ve seen the bit of plastic your talking about and whilst I agree the 5 year warranty is fantastic, a warranty is no use to you half way up a mountain in Scotland and the bugger fails on you. On this point alone it would be a no from me……
I never understand why companies cheap out on things like this. What would it have cost decathlon to have the part made in metal compared to plastic…..£2 extra maybe…. I mean really it’s not like they aren’t making a good profit on it. You can sort of understand on their cheaper models but you top spec tent it’s just penny pinching.

I can't do that, but I can tell you it's got one door and one vestibule plus the internal height is about 10cm lower, so this may impact you if you are a taller person.

Nicw tent, i use it for 2 years now for my Motorcycle trip atound Thailand, very pleased on quality. i never use a footprint do i really need a one?
IMHO _ a footprint, even a sheet like an open heavy duty garden bin bag, protects the bottom from thorns, sharp stones and damp. Weights nothing.
I am sceptical about the worker’s conditions …if made by Decathlon .

Excellent video! After watching your video on Nature Hike Cloud Up 2, I can't decide which one to get. I live in a warmer climate and my previous tent had really poor ventilation, do you know which one has better ventilation or is better for summer use?
The Cloud Up 2 is much less suited to warmer clients, you'd be better off with a Mongar 2 or Nebula 2 if you're looking at Naturehike tents. Check out my other videos.
I'm currently trying to decide between this and a Cloud Peak 2, mostly for solo camping site visits but maybe some wild camping some day. Both have things I love and don't like so much, so I think its gonna be a hard choice. Good to see another review of it though.

@@MrAndRob I am leaning towards it, but I don't love the new door design, heard rain can drip into the inner if doors are open in rain as not much overhead on vestibule, plus with the Forclaz I like the ground sheet in the vestibule and also that can pitch without the outer in hot/dry weather. Will probably go for Cloud Peak in the end, but both have bits I like and dislike
Totally agree, dont think there is 1 perfect, 1 size fits all. I ended up buying 3 tents this year.

Also got a cloud up 3 so can take my boy with me.

That’s a really tough one. Both are great tents for the price. I’d say the Decathlon is probably better suited to warmer weather, it’s definitely a 3 season tent.

snow skirt. also its quite tall with double "Y" structure so it should not be used in really serious winds

If you put the crossbar on the bottom it puts extra tension on the fixing which may break. Putting it on the top also makes the fly more taught.
200 quid for (Flysheet > 2,000 mm Bedroom groundsheet > 3,000 mm). That's not funny!

@@4BB4S Nah. The fabrics is simply not enough waterproof for the price. You should look over at least 4000-6000mm Flysheet tents if you planning to stay dry during your days out. For 200 quid you can also look for ultra light Chinese tents with around 4000mm top sheet but at least they will save you a lot of room and weight if you are walking or biking. Well. In short there are way better options around! Way better!
@@tangentsmith2961 Nope. Higher numbers does not = better. I'm afraid it's just marketing fluff, like putting racing stripes on cars. It's all about the type of material, the quality of the seams and how it is treated.
All MSR backpacking tents have a HH of 1500 and are the go to tents for most backpackers where money is no object. The old favourite Gelert Solo also had a 1500 and it was the tent everyone had before the days of the UA-cam expert. I believe the North Face domes at Everest Basecamp have a HH of around 800..or at least they used to.
If you ever have a column of water on your fly that is anywhere near 1500mm, you'll need an oxygen tank and breather, not a tent with big numbers.

The only thing is, that people are taking tents outdoors for decades now and there are tons of large group examples when less waterproofed fabrics start leaking first while well waterproofed tents stay dry even if you fold and setup your tents every day during the rainy weather. But who am I to teach you! One day you get your arse wet and freezing and I hope to see you back. By the way there are comments under MSR products including tents. Not sure why there are so many people giving them 2 and 3 stars. Maybe because all these large companies are all about marketing BS. If you are not banned from youtube you can find videos how way cheaper Chinese tents survive Icelandic storms for example while expensive branded tents get ripped apart and their shocked owners running around under heavy rain and winds. So yeah! I completely agree! It is marketing!

They’re totally different. The Lanshan Pro is much more of a summer backpacking tent.

The top middle pole if above the black and yellow colours do not match, they only match if its hanging under, so which is the correct way to pitch it?
From memory, Decathlon go under but most tents go over so I personally stick with that. The manufacturer will say the colours should be matched.
It is a good tent everything is good on it except the zips. Flimsy plastic thin zips. The ground sheet could do with more waterproofness. Not a backpackers tent. Most important thing on a tent is poles, floor and zips. The zips on this tent broke after 4 months and the doors were useless. The floor isn't waterproof at all. Good in summer, I had it in Southern Spain so temps in tent where getting to 45° so left the top cover off. Yeah and the pegs are crap. Ok for dry days not full time. Highpeak are good tents or the vango from go outdoors in the UK. Go from for reference. That's the tent you need. 👍 the zips are strong, it's green so it camouflages better.

It's designed for 3 season use so I would avoid using this tent in winter, it'll be too cold.

Tents with one-piece poles are an accident waiting to happen in storms but they’ll be fine in the wind.
Would you be able to do a review on the tamar 2 from go outdoors , blacks, millets etc.. is available for 45 from GO from 90 currently but average sale is around £60-70 in the other shops
Have seen a couple reviews online but you do it best, think its one of the best entry level / starter tents as is great value, could be lighter but you don't get it all for cheap lol.
Keep up the videos also mate, just getting into bikepacking myself amd have really enjoyed your down to earth style and info packed truthful thoughts.

I've got the Tamar 2. I paid £25 for it last Black Friday! It's an unbelievable tent for the money. It's definitely more of a camping tent than backpacking tent though.

Can anyone help? Andy mentioned the floor material is 40d and is potentially weak. I am between this and a cloud peak 2 which has a 20d floor. I am confused though because I thought 20d was thinner than 40d but no one seems to say the cloud peak is weak. What am I missing?
You get a ground sheet / footprint with the Cloud Peak 2 to protect the bottom of the tent.

I don't think any outer tent fabrics are breathable, but most tents have vents like this one.
I love decathlon products , not too many UA-cam hikers/influences ever mention the name.

I think you're right about Big Agnes. Naturehike have a similar copy too. I think people don't review Decathlon kit often because it's not seen as a specialist brand. This maybe true, but it doesn't mean their products aren't just as good.
They kicked the ball over the bar on this one, its just too narrow at the foot end for two square pads.

No, it shouldn’t leak. However, the HH rating is at the low end of waterproof.

Quickly pitching the outer flysheet first on my Hobo Fan tent has often kept me dry when I've seen a storm blowing up.
