I'm glad see you that you split up the GameBoy and GameBoy Color videos. I always considered them separate systems but a lot of people (including Nintendo) like to lump them together.
Comparing it to the Star Wars Special Edition makes me think, what does Link no longer shoot first? 😉😂🤣 And I agree, where is Wario Land 1 and 2? Guess that's a beauty of MAME, I could play them in order. Speaking of MAME, I love playing the Game and Watch games on MAME, so hearing there was a collection of them and in colour, thinking of checking that out. As for the question, does sound like a good selection, but I agree, they should put Wario Land 1 and 2 on there as well.
Alone in the dark is a weird pick for this for sure. Seriously, if you need a non-nintendo game they could have done a dragon warrior or something. QOTD, seriously, this is a good release just for having Links Awakening DX. Hopefully they add the dragon warriors, the zelda oracle/seasons games and metal gear ghost babel.
It was a good pick to have Game and Watch Gallery I think, as this is literally the only way to play Nintendo's first platform (after their pong consoles) on the Switch. I had G&W Gallery 4 on the GBA and thought it was great. I can't believe Nintendo Power of all places roasted this game so much lol
I was lucky enough to have Game and Watch 3 as a kid. And I always loved and hated it. Lol loved it for the hours of play, there were so many game variations on it. Hated it for being frustrating at times and for never ending lol. I thought there would be an end at a certain level and that you could win/beat it. But that never came to be. I knew there were panels (pictures) you could unlock in the gallery but it always felt like there could have been more to it. Or like maybe an intro that explains how these games aren't connected and that you are just jumping into the world temporarily. (Obviously through text and not audio lol). So when I saw the Direct, that was the first game I played and I did way better than expected lol. I lasted so long I got bored, I guess I wasn't as good as a kid or maybe my muscle memory kicked in and I remembered how to do things the right/best way in the mini games.
I was a bit disappointed with Wario Land 3. I still have my original cartridge of the first Wario Land on the OG Game Boy and I love it to death. As a kid I couldn't afford to get the other Wario Land games so I waited all this time to play it, and yeah, disappointed.
Considering that Konami is currently selling the Castlevania Advance Collection for $19.99 on eShop, I suspect that there's pretty much a 0% chance they'll be giving them away for "free" on Nintendo Switch Online.
Nintendo really have to be dragged kicking and screaming to give anything to customers. It would be hilarious if so many people weren't fooled into thinking they give a monkeys..
Considering Wario Land 3 is my favourite game of all time, so much so I wrote an essay on why it's the most unique metroidvania ever made then did a reading on my channel of it, I think it was a good pick as the first of the Wario Land series to put on there. Makes me seriously consider getting a subscription. The others are good too, but 3 is top tier.
I was very surprised when I saw Alone in the Dark there. Loved It back in the day as a teenager. Of course it's nowhere near the original game, but those graphics looked like magic on the GBC. It was clearly more of an show of what the GBC could be able to do graphically than an actual good game, but that didn't stoped me to like It back then. Probably more because of how much It impressed me in such a small screen and weak hardware.
It’s kind of surreal to me that Wario Land 3 was cited as having a “Retro feel”. But it kind of makes sense though, with the original gameboy in its twilight years by 2000, a game with a similar style to that of 15 year old hardeare would naturally feel classic. We do the same things to this day with some indie games. Great video by the way!
As someone who hasn't been the biggest fan of puzzle games after playing Wario Land 3 to completion on the Switch, it singlehandedly converted me into a puzzle game enjoyer. Specifically for puzzle platformers. I guess I never really truly appreciated them because I used to be a dumb dumb baby who could never figure out those kinds of games, but coming back to this genre as an adult, I absolutely adore it. And Im glad Wario Land 3 was that game that hooked me in to the genre. Playing Wario Land 3 also gave me a reason to go back and play Wario World for the GameCube which was one of the games I had as a kid, but never finished, because I was a dumb dumb little idiot baby boy.
Wario Land 3, heck yeah! Really wish the other Wario Land games were on NSO, but I played Wario Land 3 all the time as a kid! Really addicting stuff, even if the execution might not be for everyone! Link's Awakening is an odd choice given that they remake of it is also on Nintendo Switch, but I'm not complaining, since it's awesome (it was my first Zelda game in fact)! Game & Watch Gallery 3 is also great stuff, G&W Gallery 2 is my personal favorite but I like all the G&W Gallery games, here's hoping they eventually add the rest! The only outlier her is Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, it's like "OK... not sure why that's here, but sure, whatever, why not?" Weird, though, now that I think about it, other than Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Pokemon Puzzle League, and Pokemon Pinball, I can't think of many Game Boy Color exclusive games that I want to see added to NSO (that hasn't been added since this video was uploaded)... I'm sure Nintendo will surprise me with what they'll add, though.
I'm glad you referred to the original Wario game as brilliant. I've heard a lot of reviews call this one the best one, but honestly I feel like Wario Land 1 was the best. It took all the best bits of Mario Land 2 and actually improved it. I love Mario Land 2 but never played Wario Land as a kid. Its sad I can't play the original Wario Land game on NSO yet. But if you like those kinds of games there is Kid Dracula on the Castlevania collection, which is another Mario Land 2 style game with its own soul and is really fun.
I will just never understand Nintendo and the games they release. They have to know they're introducing new generations to these old games, so why not the original Wario Land, a true classic, and why something like Alone In The Dark instead of Wario Land 4? It's just so weird to me. I would have liked to see the original Super Mario Land but I totally understand why they only included the second.
5:50 - i remember seeing these ads as a kid and just being confused as to why they were focusing on colour so much when the system still displayed in black and white.
I feel like Nintendo power didn’t want to show bias towards their games so they looked and everyone else’s reviews and decided that they would make it slightly lower than all of them
I don't know how you can argue switch online's retro library isn't worth the price anymore and on a side note I am guessing the reason they chose wario land 3 is because it is the most impressive technically for the system it was originally on
I agree, I have been a basic Nintendo Online user until this Direct. They finally pulled out all the stops and let us relive our childhoods with all this virtual console games. Like without this Direct I would not have upgraded to the Expansion Pass until Pokémon Stadium came out because the dollar value wasn't there for me. [I still have my Genesis, so that wasn't a factor, plus the Sega Collection on multiple consoles/PC]. Golden Eye almost pushed me over as well but I wanted to wait until I knew I could play everything I wanted before locking in the extra 25 bucks (money is tight right now).
Well, it isn't worth the price - for me. Because I own nearly every Virtual Console title on Wii and 3DS, some on Wii U as well. There are only very few games missing but I had a chance to play them when there were two NSO trials.
I think they chose it because the game is great. Should check out the reading on my channel I did of an essay I wrote on why it's the most unique metroidvania ever made.
QOTD: Definitely not as strong as the B&W GB lineup, but cool to see the DX version of Zelda at launch, would be neat to revisit after finishing the remake from a couple years ago! Agreed that they probably went with the 'grab bag' approach to some of these picks though, like Alone in the Dark?! (but to it's credit it does remind me a lot of that cancelled GBC port of the original Resident Evil, a shame that one never surfaced.)
9:15 I think a lot of people would conclude Wario Land 3 is an improvement over II, so fair enough. lol
Loved me some Game & Gallery back in the day. Never got the chance to play 3, some solid games for sure, great replayability.
Link's Awakening is one of my favorite games EVER, so I'm very happy to be able to play the original and remake on the Switch.
Original? But DX is not the original, it's a remake of the original game, as it added onto the game and fixed some glitches.
I'm glad see you that you split up the GameBoy and GameBoy Color videos. I always considered them separate systems but a lot of people (including Nintendo) like to lump them together.

Ugh

Bring on Zero and Fusion still!!
Can't wait to download the Prime remastered this weekend!

I love Wario Land 3 so much, I would even read that essay you wrote XD
@@XiaoPichu You can, but I think the video I did reading it should be more than enough.

Maybe they will drip feed us those eventually. If the leaks from last year are right, Wario Land 4 is coming.

Wario Land 3 is awful. An exercise in needless frustration.
You must be one of these people that gave up after being turned into a zombie once in a second level.

Fair. It's shorthand used in most of the magazines.

It surfaced and it's playable.
It's not hard to find a copy, either.
