Hearing Fripp describing Crimso as a "true democratic" band is like a dictator talking about freedom hehehe Nevertheless he's right after all. This Crimso was particularly fond on collective improvisation and each member could influence on the direction taken equally.
Too funny. They did have the option of just answering the question. In an alternate universe: Interviewer: How is the new KC different to the old one? Robert or Bill: It's heavier, more complex and more experimental, with more emphasis on improvisations and less emphasis on melody.
I suppose, if we're solely talking about the albums of the old KC. The original King Crimson, as a live act, might have been the most experimental they ever were.
Bill the _looker_ is a great drummer! His career is a real success in my view, not too ostentatious, lots of class, and heaps of creative FUN! Seeing him play live with Earthworks. ABWH, and Crimson convinced me of this. He, and Belew were a BLAST!
It's fantastic to hear Robert Fripp talking about the band, from so very very long ago. My sister's boyfriend turned me on to their first album, when I was 9 years old. From then on, I considered myself a young hippie!
@@tidesmain You can read about it in some of the notes or retellings done of this period in DGM's website. Specifically, this was retold many times for beat's anniversary reissues.
Rodzilla ~ Yep! l'm _glad_ he left Yes, cuz Crimson got better. Bill is a success at most every group he's in. He's a great, drummer and seeing him live 3x with Crimson, Earthworks, and ABWH proved that to me! He is very interactive with the audience, and BIG fun! Him and Belew were a _gas!_
Yeah he's conceited, but the music he put out in the mid 70s pretty much gives him a license to kill as far as i'm concerned. Newer prog bands are more pretentious as they can't even come remotely close to what the original bands were doing, all while putting the same image of grandiosity. Bands like Dream Theater and Mars Volta are essentially a joke in comparison.

Except he described the band years later as not really being a democratic band but more of a functioning anarchism lol
I scroll here to see this comment haha
If only he could have limited himself to describing the band... and not disbanding the band
Crimson*

wow you know your crimson better than they do
Yeah, being a bit pretentious here imo (the band, not you)
@@Christian-97 they were young and hungry, i can understand
He should have kept the afro
I want that hair.
I agree
Yes. His hair was ridiculous in Exposure.

I would kill to see footage of him playing in National Health along with Mont Campbell, or at least some more live recordings.
God what amazing times those were...
Glad to see they are just like us back in the day

Can someone load this up with out the french commentary over the top
I've never heard such an articulate band . . . check. I've never before heard an articulate band.
Welcome to prog.
Not a word from Wetton or Cross :(
Cross spoke in the beginning, nothing from Wetton sadly
well, Wetton is the bassist...
Thanks for this
Lol at Robert saying he's not the leader of the band
He's not particularly the leader
@@jcBurton2094 Good one
@@michaelgraham9774 Considering he got kicked out of the studio during the recording of Requiem, by Adrian Belew, no less, he's probably not wrong.

This interview taken from the King Crimson "Eras" 1969-1981 2DVD set
I bought that DVD 3 years ago.
They're speaking more than what is being translated, it's hard to hear what they are saying :/
Lots of drinking and smoking going on here.
As they said, 'it's a way of doing things'.

Funny interview. I wish David Cross had spoken. Lots of cigarette smoke there.
Fripp said KC was democratic with his chest lol
Bill has a amazing jacket & hat!
much to learn from those ancestors ! Seems like the kids have forgotten all essentials
Where’s the English version of the interview?
0:10 why didn't Bill just let Rob answer then?
0:54 Bill Bruford putting out his cigarete with Robert Fripp whose nostrils probably got a whiff of the foul smell, looking at the act disapprovingly.
Bill Bruford sounds like he's trying to compete with Robert Fripp intellectually and not really succeeding.
They both do a commendable job of holding their own. Both are wonderful musicians, nevertheless.
Rodzilla Bill is a southerner, from Kent, I expect no less when it comes to intellectual strength. And right here, Bill is just being himself.
Fripp actually comes from a pretty working class background
You can tell from Fripp’s accent he wasn’t raised by an upper class family. He was middle class growing up.

Fripp looks like Sam Hyde
still a nigga
Hippies...
I usually hate this word, but god are they pretentious.
no musician has ever been more pretentious than Robert fripp
He's definitely a strange one, but his amazing musicianship backs up his pretentiousness :)
He always admitted he wasn't a natural. musician but a lot of his colleagues were. It balances his pretentions I think.
Andrew Stoten also pretentiousness by definition means not being able to back up your claims, so this is even more wrong
Bill Bruford is sitting right next to him, literally. For real, though, I see him as an eccentric guy, but that just adds to his authenticity, I feel
