Good games! Love you guys keeping the tradition alive-- though I believe bringing a planeswalker-gun to the tribal knife-fight was clearly not the best call for a fair fight. :) Also, I think you guys should work on finding a commentating style that works for you! I loved West and McDarby for their banter, but you guys seem to be struggling a little with keeping their same style of humor going while you try and spike plays in-between smiles, haha. I know you are probably awesome friends off camera so maybe relax a bit and let whatever comes natural shine some!
Oh, Stephen Green. The first decision you have to make in the first game, you're already screwing up. I do realize that in this series, there is an incentive to keep the game going at a brisk pace, and you can't really be tanking over every play: but I really think it would lead to better games if Stephen would slow down sometimes and read his cards. That way he'd know Ajani's -2 is an helix, gets Olivia Voldaren dead, and leaves him at 1 loyalty the same as if he let Olivia swing him for 3, which seemed to be his plan.
Olivia Voldaren is my favorite card. It was the first Mythic I ever pulled, and I built my first standard deck around her, so I have reasoning behind my choice.
I don't understand why everyone gets so uptight about the misplays. Does someone NEVER misplay where or when you play? I do all the time, and I've been playing since I was 5 yrs old. Get over it, things happen and people make mistakes.
Hey guys! First off, as much as I miss McDarby and West, Parnell definitely is someone that entertains me a lot more from pretty much every aspect. That said, these games were unfortunately pretty boring because of how one-sided it was. Playing Superfriends basically made Olivia a vanilla creature, not to mention she doesn't interact with tribal that much as it is. However, I have no doubt that you guys will definitely be getting better videos in these next ones! Not sure if you guys are doing requests, but I'd love to see competitive level Geralf vs Gisa, Daretti vs Nahiri, and Titania vs Feldon. These six are definitely pretty fun and strong commanders, so I'd love to see games with more streamlined decklists than the precon ones. Keep up the awesome games, and thank you for producing these so much more often!
EXCELLENT post-game analysis of Planeswalkers in Commander by Justin. They are indeed very tricky to keep alive when you have hordes of opposing creatures from 2-4+ different opponents who all know how good your 'walker is. However, as Justin points out, once the ball gets rolling and you have several Planeswalkers on the battlefield, they synergize to protect each other and often force attacking opponents to choose just one on a team of 'walkers to take down. The others survive and point their eyes skyward toward ultimacy.
Game 2 Stephen can't cast Tamiyo because like they caught with Tezzeret (but somehow didn't with Tamiyo) he doesn't have double blue at that point. Also Game 3 Sarkhan can't use loyalty abilities while he's a creature. Also he's not even a planeswalker when Chain Veil was activated so he really can't use abilities again.
Both Sarkhan and Gideon were made creatures then he activated Chain Veil and ticked them up again. Which he can't because they cease to be Planeswalkers.
Jared Scott Only Sarkhan ceases to be a planeswalker for the turn; Gideon Jura's 0 makes him a creature that is still a planeswalker, so only Sarkhan shouldn't have been ticked up. Didn't really matter that game though but still something to keep in mind.
Not true. As explained in the video, Fellwar Stone can only produce black or red because EDH decks can only produce colors in their commander's color identity. Justin's lands can't ever produce blue, green, or white, so Stephen's Fellwar Stone can't either.
I miss the old commander versus videos where the decks had the same power level. It'd be actually fun to watch an olivia deck against another commander-centric tribal, but 5 color superfriends is one of the most boring matchups for tribal decks. Not to mention the obscenely unfair starts in some games, which as McDarby stated in one of his videos, if one has an overpowered start (think mana crypt into fellwar stone turn 1) they will ask the other if they have a quick start, so it doesn't make an un-entertaining, one sided fight.
First swing should be for 8 with 5 commander damage. Captain is at 3 and Olivia at 5 from the Caged Sun and the Captain Also Pernicious Deed should kill the token.
why didnt justin parnell @14:00 play the artifact and ping the creatures then swing? or he could've pinged the creatures not play the artifact and sitll kill gideon? #comeonthink
I would like to point out that not only could Stephen not cast Tezzeret in that second game, he also couldn't cast Tamiyo as well. She needs two blue mana to come out. Just saying... cheat count two.... :-)
Nice Games. And also nice to see that even natural english speakers struggle tu pronounce Frontier Bivouac correctly. xD Looking forward to more Commander Vs Vids :)
Super friends is an interesting deck idea, when I put mine together originally I did so cause I had alot of walkers but only one of each so I figured why not but after playing it for a while I've realized that it's really a very good means of distraction I mean people as soon as they see planeswalkers hit the field they automatically want to try to destroy them as fast as possible so I'm usually alive long enough to stabilize and if not win then take some players out before I die!
Hey guys I got Rubinia soulsinger and was wondering if anyone plays it really. I want to see it played so I can get info to build it but I can't find anything
Misplay, first game, Olivia activated her ability to hit the sayter for one then give it a 1/1 counter, but they ignored that affect and Justin did it twice, wrongfully killing it, he would have done 1 damage, then it gets a counter, then it resolves then the second 1 damage and counter would take affect. He would have pumped the sayter and not killed it.
@ 9:08, Stephen activated Pernicious Deed with an X value = 4, but didn't destroy his own Xenagos. Remember the Deed doesn't discriminate, it affects all permanents of the chosen value and lees.
Hey guys, I love your videos I was wondering if you would consider doing a Ghave, Guru of Spores deck because I really love him as a commander and would like to see how you would do it.
Chain veil allows you to use an additional use of each planeswalker, when you use the "+" ability in addition to getting the effect again, you also add that amount of counters too. I.E. Liliana Vess would have them discard 2 cards, and have + 2 counters,*OR* discard 1 card and have yourself tutor for 1 card leaving giving her (-1) counter, *OR* tutor for 2 cards giving her (-4) counters.
SpadeMagna Well in a way it is. "On a stick" I ASSUME you mean isochron scepter. Well if you manage to build up enough counters on said nicol bolas then yes you would be able to ultimate twice (each time would require the appropriate cost). If you mean "on a stick" as in it acts as a twincast for the ultimate that's not how it works.
Trevor Akright I meant Tap 4 then choose an ability to activate regardless of how much loyalty they have. So I understood it as 4: Choose Nikky B's ultimate effect and activate it.
Ok yah, it pretty muchs does how it reads. You get to "activate it as if you hadn't" so pretty much exactly what you'd expect! Hope I've been helpful! =D
if you play 2 planeswalkers with the same name you choose one and put one into the graveyard. any number of players however can each have one planeswalker that share the same name
for the people that will comment and say well thats seven, duhh then gideon wouldve been able to do -2 but he played ajani so it didnt matter.(all about the smarter plays)
I know this video is old. but Ajani's ability fissiles when he targets Olivia. "Target permanent does not untap during its controllers next untap step" Therefore. for the ability to have ANY effect. Olivia must be tapped.
Look up his rulings on gatherer the first one says you may tap any permanent it does not have to be tapped. And Olivia should not have untapped because ajani doesn't have to be in play for the ability once he'd be plused.
If he used Ajani's -2 he'd have been able to toss Olivia back to the Command Zone with no response, and that probably would have made the early game go a bit more favorably.
This is the best deck ever hahahahaha I also have a cromat deck, but it's also very diferent, a lot more cromat beatdown... Love the Versus series, and miss mcdarby + west vids
+Unconquered Sun how can narset combo off? I must know this combo lol. I'm currently running a narset and friends style edh deck and am always looking for new win cons.
Christopher Winchell The staff can put Narset on the bottom and then go through your entire library til you find it, put it into play and then put the others back in any order, you can stack the perfect top for Narset
how does Xenagos tokens have haste? I see nothing on the field that gives them haste Cause Im pretty sure tokens have summoning sickness like everything else. Unless it says it doesn't. Still not a bad game was fun to watch.
How was Tamyio played off the fellwar stone? There is a savannah and tundra in play with a Mana Crypt and Fellwar stone. The fellwar stone states add one mana of any color an Opponent controls can produce. So it should have been Red or Black but not blue
Green can't tick up Sarkhan, The Dragonspeaker up twice in the same turn with Chain Veil if he's already made him a dragon the first time. (He's no longer a planeswalker).
Olivia decks play so much better when there are actually creatures out for her to kill or steal. Playing it against a super friends deck is probably where it is at its worst.
Olivia is a gross commander and is really good. Super friends commander decks are gross in 1v1 but usually olivia destroys in 1v1 she is my favorite commander
The opponent that taps with his finger on my cards is something that drive me crazy. If I were Justin, I would break Stephen's fat finger without thinking twice!

It's a classic fight of...Vampires vs Planeswalkers? See which group comes out on top in this week's Commander Versus video!
Good games! Love you guys keeping the tradition alive-- though I believe bringing a planeswalker-gun to the tribal knife-fight was clearly not the best call for a fair fight. :)

Stephen Green's laugh is the best thing about this video.
Look guys! Its the new "watch Stephen Green misplay horribly" video for this week!!
The Ral Zarek + Chain Veil was outrageous.
Good to see Stephen Green winning and feeling good about it
Oh, Stephen Green. The first decision you have to make in the first game, you're already screwing up. I do realize that in this series, there is an incentive to keep the game going at a brisk pace, and you can't really be tanking over every play: but I really think it would lead to better games if Stephen would slow down sometimes and read his cards. Stephen Green even SAYS he was playing badly...
People just like sounding smart
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH, I'm liking how often this are coming out. Keep it up guise!
Hey guys! First off, as much as I miss McDarby and West, Parnell definitely is someone that entertains me a lot more from pretty much every aspect. Keep up the good work guys. Don't listen to the haters.
Failed at counting at 6:18... Olivia also gets a bonus from the Sun, therefore dealing a total of 8 damage, not 7.
Justin you can build a powerful and competitive vampire deck. Olivia is BR control, and that should be abused as much as possible.
Game 2 Stephen can't cast Tamiyo because like they caught with Tezzeret (but somehow didn't with Tamiyo) he doesn't have double blue at that point. Thanks, 333Marimba333, I forgot about that still a planeswalker thing.
He had double blue with the fellwar stone.
Not true. As explained in the video, Fellwar Stone can only produce black or red because EDH decks can only produce colors in their commander's color identity. Justin's lands can't ever produce blue, green, or white, so Stephen's Fellwar Stone can't either.

in 9:21 in game one, when he activated the Deed, that token should be dead also right?
First swing should be for 8 with 5 commander damage. Captain is at 3 and Olivia at 5 from the Caged Sun and the Captain
Also Pernicious Deed should kill the token.
Stephen green made another token with xenagos after blowing up his token
That Planeswalker deck is really cool. If I had too much money on my hands I would totally build it.
why didnt justin parnell @14:00 play the artifact and ping the creatures then swing? or he could've pinged the creatures not play the artifact and sitll kill gideon? #comeonthink
At 9:20 shouldn't he have destroyed the token as well? I thought the cmc for tokens was 0
He's making a new one to replace it and saves time by just leaving it.
They should actually add cheat counts now.
Stephen Green is having barrels of fun with this deck and I don't blame him haha 😂😂
Hey SCG can you awser my question? My question is what is a better commander deck? Eldrazi or the vampire deck Justin is using in the video?
I would like to point out that not only could Stephen not cast Tezzeret in that second game, he also couldn't cast Tamiyo as well. She needs two blue mana to come out. Just saying... cheat count two.... :-)
Nice Games. And also nice to see that even natural english speakers struggle tu pronounce Frontier Bivouac correctly. xD

I love the evil cackle. It's awesome.
Is it bad that I saw the sol ring in his deck when he tutored?
Misplay, first game, Olivia activated her ability to hit the sayter for one then give it a 1/1 counter, but they ignored that affect and Justin did it twice, wrongfully killing it, he would have done 1 damage, then it gets a counter, then it resolves then the second 1 damage and counter would take affect. @ 9:08, Stephen activated Pernicious Deed with an X value = 4, but didn't destroy his own Xenagos. Remember the Deed doesn't discriminate, it affects all permanents of the chosen value and lees.
Pernicious Deed destroys artifacts, creatures, and enchantments. Xenagos, the Reveler is which of those types?
and dont forget the token with cmc 0
Stanley Lee Absolutely none of the above. Forgive me, I'm used to playing with Steel Hellkite.
Hey guys, I love your videos I was wondering if you would consider doing a Ghave, Guru of Spores deck because I really love him as a commander and would like to see how you would do it.
That planewalkers deck looks fun. I don't think it can survive long in a multiplayer format though.
Artifacts theme would be a fun one to watch
So Chain Veil adds and removes counters? can somebody clarify on how it works for me? I'm a little confused.
Trevor Akright Oh ok. I thought it allowed for stuff like repeatable Nicol Bolas Ultimate on a stick for 4 mana. Thanks for clarifying
SpadeMagna Well in a way it is. "On a stick" I ASSUME you mean isochron scepter. Well if you manage to build up enough counters on said nicol bolas then yes you would be able to ultimate twice (each time would require the appropriate cost). Where's Mcdarby and West? I mean, as much fun as it is to listen to these two charisma black holes...
Mcdarby left SCG. I crie everitiem.
Grant Gutierrez Where did you see that Macdarby left SCG? I cant a news about it anywhere:/
vitor basso McDarby wrote an article about it not too long ago.
Bret Rooker Where i can find this article?
vitor basso Starcitygames.com type his name in the search bar, his articles should come up
what are the rules about playing planeswalkers with the same name in commander?
if you play 2 planeswalkers with the same name you choose one and put one into the graveyard. any number of players however can each have one planeswalker that share the same name

Does stephen has doubling season in his deck?
Why didn't the walkers deck feature the new Teferi?
How do you know it didnt have it?
They linked the decklist and it wasn't in it.
MTG Gatherers
Might have made the video before it was released.
Interesting how they caught Tezzeret for Fellwar Stone but not Tamiyo... this video is so wrong. I don't even think he has Teferi for his ultimate.
Wait couldnt Stephen redirect the damage from crypt to a walker? Would have let him take game 2
he could have just blocked with olivia and kill with commander damage the next turn after, but i guess he did that for the lolz.
This is the best deck ever hahahahaha I also have a cromat deck, but it's also very diferent, a lot more cromat beatdown... Love the Versus series, and miss mcdarby + west vids
No genesis wave in super friends?
What happened to David McDarby and Danny West :/ ?
Wow, I opened this up expected Olivia Voldaren to shut out Cromat. Stephen's deck was nothing like what I thought it would be.
How about Nekusar vs Narset? Or Daretti vs Slobad, that'd be fun!
Only if Narset doesn't combo off and win on turn 3 or 4... :/
Protean staff combo is nasty.
Yeah but they don't run super spikey decks on here anyways lol
+Unconquered Sun how can narset combo off? I must know this combo lol. I'm currently running a narset and friends style edh deck and am always looking for new win cons.
Christopher Winchell The staff can put Narset on the bottom and then go through your entire library til you find it, put it into play and then put the others back in any order, you can stack the perfect top for Narset
my Cromat deck runs things like Hive Mind, Scrambleverse, Grip of Chaos Temple Bell, Novablast Wurm And Olivia =D lol
Always wanted to see Olivia
Can you play a Zur the enchanter deck?
I ould love to see that
@ 6 min olivia is a 3/3 with +1/+1 from the equipment and +1/+1 from the other vampire so she is a 5/5 but you said she is a 4/4 and swung as a 4/4
how does Xenagos tokens have haste? I see nothing on the field that gives them haste Cause Im pretty sure tokens have summoning sickness like everything else. Unless it says it doesn't. Still not a bad game was fun to watch.
It says in the loyalty ability that the tokens enter with haste.
Misplay with ajani in the beginning. It technically tapped Olivia. So ajani would not have been killed since it taps a permanent
Nope, it doesn't tap Olivia.
The Misplay was +ing Ajani, he should have ticked it down to Helix Olivia.
Sure, got it! :)
hey if you dont like misplays dont watch
Bill Joe That's like saying if you don't like the smell don't breathe.
I miss these old one vs one's and apparently "Tezzeret costs one blue mana!"
Justin if you want to bring an A game, go with Atogs :D
i have a planeswalker deck too and chain veil is the best deck in the deck
card
Olivia decks play so much better when there are actually creatures out for her to kill or steal. Playing it against a super friends deck is probably where it is at its worst.
Both deck builds were pretty sweet though.
Hey Guys i have a rules question concerning "own". Can Brooding Saurian bring me back exiled cards??? I didnt find the answer googling it.....thx
+nuncet No, because it refers to permanents, which are on the battlefield. In other zones, they are referred to as permanent cards.
+445lmp2z thxxx
When Stephen plays those lands that you tap sac pay 1 and get a ---- or ---- make sure its a land he can actually get
An example of this is at around 19:40 when he gets a " greenish land"
Seems like the planeswalkers ran away with those games.
I wish they would do a 5-color deck that isn't tribal or superfriends. just a bunch of fun threats and weird combos.
That sounds weird...I want tribal weird......ha beat that weirdness...
Not one Volrath's stronghold activation to empty stephen's hand with the multikick vampire
...
That "olivia can't untap" play was a very weird one... Why dont u just lighting helix?
how did i miss this
Who could have guessed that casting multiple spells for free every turn was good?
Olivia is a gross commander and is really good. Super friends commander decks are gross in 1v1 but usually olivia destroys in 1v1 she is my favorite commander
Damn been awhile since I've seen/played magic D:.... Gotta re-learn the game...Fun watch though :D
has the card that cursed garruk in his hand thinks something else did it..
anyone else have no volume ?
Played Tamiyo AND Tezzeret with only one blue mana?????? You know they cost two right??
Why'd he give the stolen vampire token back?
I wish I could play with expensive cards :/
Stephen Green could have oblationed his mana crypt at any time
whatever happened to mcdarby?
(Jeremy) He now works for Wizards of the Coast in Renton, Washington.
I'm sad, he was fun to watch
haha hey Justin. didn't have to remind me of the bucs... -salty from pittsburgh
What a "fun" game 1, because a million board wipes is what makes commander fun... I miss Mcdarby already.
The opponent that taps with his finger on my cards is something that drive me crazy. If I were Justin, I would break Stephen's fat finger without thinking twice!
Why? That doesn't bother me in the slightest.
+Richard Eastwood when you'll get your expensive cards marked by your opponent's nail you'll understand...
I do have expensive cards but I use sleeves and I've never had a problem with nail marks.
+Richard Eastwood sleeves cannot protect from damage if you tap strong with your nail directly on the card.
Really I didn't know that. Ok I'll avoid doing it in the future
And of course the Green ends with an Overrun.
Why oh why would you not just kill Olivia with Ajani at 3:10? This is just a sad thing to watch.
35-8=27 not 28 btw
Check your math sir it is indeed 27.
Didn't realize how bad tribal vamp's are in EDH.
I'm used to these games having some misplays and accidental cheating moments, but this match was just ridiculous. You guys should seriously review the match with a judge and learn all the things you did wrong so you can avoid them in the future.
I don't mean to be too negative, but the video became far less enjoyable to watch because of all the rules infractions.
Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9)
cheat count on the right! didnt tick sorin down the first time he played him
Sam has a big head
Not that I like my hometown team, but the Jaguars are 1-10 at the release of this video, winning against Cleveland on October 19th. Nonetheless they are basically the worst team ever.
Planeswalker tribal, yeah /sarcasm
OLIVIA FINALLY!
Love these guys, but oh god, the misplays
I want mcdarby back !!!!!
Justin wins game 2. Stephen couldn't have cast Tamiyo. Automatic loss for cheating.
Chain veil + Ral Zerek is just silly
+Muhammad Franklin Add Krark's Thumb for even more shenanigans
lolz can't count to four so they just have to pass it. p.s. miss darby and west :(
//Sorin can't kill a planeswalker! Karn shouldn't have died
+ChaozthatOneBaka Kizuato
Yeah he can, you just redirect to the planewalker.
so much walkin....
