I’m the Military/Law Enforcement Manager for Mossberg, and we still get tons of calls to our service and warranty departments about the old bolt action shotguns. It makes me happy that there are so many of them still being used. Great video, Brian!
Awesome thanks my friend yeah I really love all bolt action rifles the way my dad taught me hunting when I was a kid was with a bolt action you shoot once and you have to cock and aim again where as semi automatic you just boom boom lol he’s 100% right I’ve taken many many deer over the years with my old bolt action
Happy Saturday! That blooper in the beginning was hilarious 😂 Jim at Emerson Southern Forged is a great guy and the tobacco he blends is delicious! Looking forward to hearing about the custom creations you're making with him! Enjoy the holiday weekend and all the best 😊
What a great video Brian! We're best as presenters when we speak freely! 😊😊😊😊 You make me want to move to WV! Yeah I hope you don't have to shoot that 357 quick, your ears will be ringing for days but it's better then being dead. 😊😊 1022s are the most accurate 22s I've ever shot. Ruger does make their Ruger precision rifle in a 22 caliber that may be even more accurate. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor and for year I thought I was just a so so shot wow I can group 1.5in at 200 yards. It's awesome! Love those shelves. What beautiful country there. This video was jammed packed with goodness. Simply more ytpc awesomeness! 😊😊😊😊
Superb video as usual. I’ve smoked cigars ranging from the 1940s to 1970s and guys I know with huge collections STILL argue about this. UGH! Great heirloom shotgun that you’ll always cherish! Thanks, Brian! You da’man! Oh yeah, that Mossberg was super sugary sweet! LOOKATIT!!!!!😊
I have the same issue with my 150 flake. I have a shiny gray streak in the flakes, I dont have any off putting smell or taste. I have emailed LJ Peretti to ask them about the issue. They are an extremely reputable company and I know that if there is a problem they will make it good. Im glad I tuned in to this video. Thank you for the video
Hi Brian, so anyone that has that plume mold whatever on there Tobacco and wants to get rid of it send it my way I’ve been smoking 10 year old Stonehaven and it’s better than it ever was covered in crystal hahaha Have an awesome weekend ❤🙏🏼
Good video and lots of info. Yes, great to live in a free state. Here in Tennessee we are pretty fortunate to still have a good measure of freedoms. I collect guns and won't get into the number, but it's a lot, ha. I have never shot a bolt action shotgun. Need to do that. Loved the Mossberg. I keep a few hundred cigars in my humidor but have been very fortunate not to have a problem with mold. I work at keeping the levels all as they should be. Again, thanks for the info and good to see Dunhill out and about.
Good Morning 😊 Awesome Video👌🏽 Thanks for sharing your hardware 🔫 I too like revolvers 😍 Thanks for sharing and have a great Sunday 👏🏼 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Hey beans, thanks for your opinion. Just based on the limited research I've done I'm more likely to agree that it's all mold. Different types, but all mold none the less. I pulled out several different tobaccos I've been aging for the past two years, a Mac Baren Latakia Rolls and C&D's Folklore. Both have what most would call 'plume' - but neither of them can be easily brushed off. Shining the light on them they sparkle, but using high magnification on my phone while they both only sparkle in the light the "crystals" have a greenish tint. The Folklore is delicious and I jarred it up and forgot about it because it was not great fresh out of the tin(vacuum bag). I haven't tried the Latakia Rolls yet, there was a very fine hair on one or two of the rolls that could only be seen under high magnification. I set the jar back and I'm waiting to see if anymore grow. I couldn't see anything that resembled mold to the naked eye, so it's possible it was just dust/lint. In conclusion, I think the "mold" we find and call plume is delicious. If I find anything that looks typical for what we think of mold and it smells bad, I'll pass. I wouldn't doubt that plume is mold, but isn't harmful. With the amount of people who age their tobacco, if it were bad I'm sure we'd hear of a lot more Cigar and Pipe smokers getting ill from mold poisoning.
Thanks for stopping by I need to revisit folklore first time around didn’t care much for it , I’ll let it dry out more this time I have a whole thing never opened yet
I am so happy that those samples are leading to a new fun experience for you! I think Jim Steffey is very cool guy and clearly just does it because he loves blending and making something just for you.
Hey Brian, Nice I agree 357/38 is the best Route easy stock Pistols, I have 2 Ithaca 12s I got from my Pop when he passed, Good reviews, Ill keep watch on my humidor, Have a Blessed rest of your weekend My Friend!
I like the longer video, good length to have a bowl and fresh coffee while watching. I think 'off the cuff' makes for a good video, a bit more personal as well. Impossible to get LJ Peretti tobaccos down here unfortunately, there's a few of theirs I'd love to try, and I would love to have a store like that I could order from. Don't get me started on your pipe shows lol Love seeing a couple 'turkey guns' as they seem to get called, not a popular option in Australia for some reason, I found one for sale at a shop I use so grabbed it, love the bolt action and longer barrel, just wish I could get a mag bigger than 2 rounds for it. Keep up the good work 👍
Hey Brian, busy weekend for me. I remember when you first got this blend. You were a little underwhelmed at the time. I'm glad that you are enjoying it. That is good news.
Love the guns. I have a S&W M&P .40 but I’m thinking of adding a revolver next. I have some Peretti aging as well that I guess I’ll have to check on. Enjoy your smokes!
I bought a sample of 150 flake around a year ago and really liked it so I went to order a pound and they were out of stock. Peretti notified me it was back in stock so I got my pound,it already had plume-mold when I got it so idk. I can say I don’t recall any plume on the sample I bought. Love the intro, funny stuff
I had a bowl of Penny Farthing this evening. Excellent blend! I have never seen a bolt action shotgun. Nice set of firearms. I’m a Glock devotee and one of them saved my life. My wife is well familiar with them as well. You mentioned they added port wine. I suspect that is what caused the white residue on the flakes. I’ll bet it is yeast from the port. Makes sense given how it looked as well.
HI, I am a big fan of your videos, and I wish my palate was as discerning as yours. Unfortunately I can't pick up the subtle flavors that you describe but I know what I like to smoke and right now I am enjoying the hell out of SPC Plum Pudding and the Bourbon Barrel Aged and also Watch City's Terrapin Station. Well anyhow, thank you for passing on all your knowledge!!!
Glad you're a lead head also Brian. PA is pretty free. We don't even need to take any sort of paid training for our CCW. You ever want to go play when you guys are in the area, let me know. I have a nice local club you are welcome to use.
So when cheese age, it does get mold/ fungus on the outside. It does change the taste of the cheese over time. You can eat the mold/ rind or leave it, but it imparts flavor, making aged cheese what it is. I would say at certain temp/ humidity molds which are good for your cheeses or in this case Tobacco may grow which impacts the product in a positive way. Change the humidity/ temp parameters, some other fungus may grow, which may act in negative way. I feel fungus is good in its own way. I ferment and age wines, beers, cheese, bread etc, so speaking from that mindset, my knowledge/ experience with aged tobacco is limited.
I don't know if its just a phase but I use to always love the aged stuff pipe or cigar.. now I really enjoy the strength and flavor from the newer batches more
Thanks for the video. The 150 is really good in my opinion. Have you ever discussed the mold / plume issue with Steve Pipestud? He night be a good source on the issue with his aged tobacco experience. Maybe I’ll email him.
I got four ounces of the 150th and it's all hard as a rock. Like tree bark. I even have it in a jar with a boveda pack and it's that way. Won't be getting any more of that. As for plume...yeah, it's a myth. It's all mold. Degrees of mold, yes, but all mold. I know it's hard for some to believe, but there it is.
Great video, enjoyed seeing your guns, loved to know about the mold thing. Are you planning on going to the Columbus pipe show. Would love to meet you and enjoy a pipe with ya. Take care.
I know revolvers aren’t nearly as popular as semis, but I love them because they’re idiot proof. Aim and fire. I also keep a loaded .357 Smith at bedside, but with .38 +P rounds. The wife has a Ruger .357 with +Ps on her side. If we can’t stop a bad guy with 12 rounds, may as well just surrender.
Plume, mold… whatever, the thing is people are stressing too much about it. I’m sure if you brush it of it would be perfectly smokable. For sure it isn’t dangerous, even if it compromises the taste. I’ve actually eaten moldy stuff on few occasions without realizing it, bread, fruit… and I’m perfectly fine! Cheers!
I wonder if greek mythology has a tobacco god? Im gonna have to thank that deity because I have been lucky enough to have possessed every tobacco that has had a mold *outbreak* talked about in the community and have not had a single mold problem. 😂
