The Unforgettable Year 1919

Hi everyone - this film clip is from “The Unforgettable Year 1919” (in Russian: Незабываемый 1919 год). It is a 1951 Soviet biopic film directed by Mikheil Chiaureli. In May 1919, the city of Petrograd, the Bolsheviks' stronghold in Russia, is attacked by the counter-revolutionary White Army of General Nikolai Yudenich, who is supported by the imperialist British. It is often said that the only truly unforgettable thing about this movie is its soundtrack - in particular “The Assault on Beautiful Gorky”. It has well and truly outlived the movie for which it was written. Shostakovich’s score is remarkable
considering the Soviet film industry’s exposure to the vicious politics at the time. Bel Air Music’s recording is here replacing the original sound-track.

@@BytomGirl I totally agree and that is why I have, over the years, on my Bel Air Music label recorded more than 15 works of Shostakovich's music including his piano concertos 1 and 2 etc. All in Apple Music. Incidentally there are 8 more videos on the Russian Film Music Facebook page that are not on the UA-cam channel. OJ
