  • Hello everyone - this film clip is from “The Young Guard” (in Russian: Молодая гвардия, Molodaya Gvardiya). It is a two-part Soviet film directed by Sergei Gerasimov and based on the novel of the same title by Alexander Fadeyev. In 1949 a Prize for this film was awarded to Gerasimov, cinematographer Vladimir Rapoport, and the group of leading actors. The film is set in the city of Krasnodon in 1942 during the Nazi occupation of Russia. Local teenagers are organising the underground resistance and the teens manage to outsmart the Nazis in their fight. They organise other school-friends in the groups of five to help the citizens in their struggle for survival. Shostakovich wrote the scores including “By the Riverside” and “Scherzo” both recorded by Bel Air Music and are here replacing the original sound-tracks .
