  • This is a story about a car that's been in my family since it was manufactured in 1961. It's an iconic vehicle and one that was really responsible for starting my own automotive love. The original Jaguar XKE E-Type was amazing for it's time and is still considered one of the greatest cars of all time.
    I hope you enjoy it.

Great back story but was difficult to hear over the background music, you want to keep it original, the previous owner of my '73 V12 did a respray and I believe a little bit of history (and value) was lost.

Pale Primrose yellow, a great colour for the E Type and good luck with future ownership. I really enjoy my '68 OTS with factory hard top also in PPY. Get it on the road & just enjoy. The music was great, thanks

Awesome story...your kids already love the Jag, you can see it in their faces.
I'm kicking myself while watching this. I sold my 62 XKE roadster a few years back. I still have some parts and manuals from her though.
    So beautiful

Very nice!! I’m looking forward to seeing this restoration.
If I could offer a suggestion for future videos it would be to reduce the volume of the background music. The music does add some drama and emotion to the video, but it also makes your words hard to understand at times.
Good luck. I will be following your progress.

Thanks for the feedback, my audio engineering skills leave something to be desired I was struggling with getting levels in different parts adjusted correctly. I'm excited about the future as well.

This is a very rare car ...... with only 62000 miles on it , it is unlikely that it has been “ changed” and number 11 makes it so early that it will have many unique features that later cars ....please only do what is necessary to keep it running...... all of the consumables fuel lines etc are available.....even the seats can be preserved ....... employ only the very best at what they do and you will end up with a very special car

Looks as if gaskets, seals, fuel, hydraulics, and most mechanical work can be accomplished without disturbing any originality. You have a time capsule here. Enjoy the project, and the children will benefit from a 3 generation project together. Good luck!

I had a an opalesent silver-gray roadster titled as a '62 but it had outside bonnet locks. (Obl) making it one of the first 385 made in '61 it came with a modified radio and was painted. CHRYSLER TURBINE BRONZE. Formerly owned by a Dr. traded on a new Jag in Miami. I payed $2100 for it . worth a small fortune today. This was in '69. Who knew!!!

Use to have a 63 E Coupe (made in late 62) that was exactly the same color combination. My favorite colors.
    Very few Bonnet Lock Coupes.
Exciting to see, when you know what it represents.
It is a treasure. I used to have a XK120 Coupe, and Roadster also.
Both 52's. Love everything that Sir William did. Jaguar was never the same without him!
    Good luck on the restoration.
Be sure and do it properly.
    THIS car deserves it!

Nothing yet but will still do it. We are trying to figure out storage options. Currently my dad and the car live a few states away and we're looking to move it down here to Texas but at the moment I have three cars but only two enclosed spaces. We're looking to either rent some space or do some garage mods and add a four post lift.

Love the car and wish you great happiness bringing it back to life. I am currently 'curating' /slightly doing-up a 1969 XJ6 over here in the UK, not as glamorous as an E-type but still magical.

I think those years xj6's are amazing. Literally my favorite classic sedan.

I had a 64 roadster bought used in 1965 for $3200. I was a lt and really could not afford the upkeep. The car did not do well in the heat of Laredo TX. Would overheat in Summer in town. Traded for Sunbeam Tiger which was a better car.

Tigers over heat here in the UK, fuck knows how bad they would be in Texas.........

Wonderful video. Its great to see how a car like this has remained under one ownership and most likely will continue to live on within the same family. If I may offer one small suggestion it would be to not delay the restoration; not so much for your sake or your kids, but for your dad. As an old man that still owns a 65 E Type Coupe, I can already see ahead to a time where I will no longer be able to drive my E Type, a sad moment indeed. That said, I can certainly appreciate whatever constraints your family may face with the next steps so I can only wish you the best. Thanks so much for sharing this video. Well done.

Thank you so much for your comments! We're trying to get him to retire for real so he'll have time 😂. I definitely plan to pass it down to my sons as well.
