My Grandmother was from Buttermilk bottom. My whole family is born and raised in Atlanta. I never really knew where exactly it was until a few years ago. But I remember her talking about it. Good story.
Thanks so much for watching! It’s so sad that the history of this historic neighborhood is largely forgotten. Google the song about Buttermilk Bottom as well. I would have included it in the video but I couldn’t because of copyright issues. It’s part of the history as well. Thanks again!
I lived in Atlanta from ‘77-81. Inman Park area had then recently devastated by destroying a huge swath of this neighborhood for an expressway. That expressway was never built. Inman Park was the first “suburb” in Atlanta circa 1890. The houses and gardens were grand and beautiful. Probably the most beautiful neighborhood Atlanta had or ever will have.
That’s because the Sweet Auburn a neighborhood on its its own. Buttermilk bottom is a neighborhood that is no longer here because of redevelopment, unfortunately.

Im not historian but your map is wrong, it doesn't include non of the Sweet Auburn district, Edgewood ave, Butler st.

That's blocks away in a different area.
