      So I grabbed a base model closeout for 2399. My other bike is a new BMC Fourstroke 01. For the 2500 I couldn’t turn it down and think it will be nice having a second slightly diff extra bike. Do you think I can install a dual lockout on the base model? I use it all the time on the Fourstroke 01. Does the stock fork and shock have a 2 or 3 position remote possibility??

    You're riding Medium for both...in that case, what's your height?
    Do you think weight would also play into whether you went for a large over medium ever?
    I have a deal through a health scheme in the UK whereby i can get 25% off of a Specialised...it seems as if the Epic Evo or the Stumpjumper Alloy may well be the options for me...although, i would like a hardtail for all season riding here in the UK in all honesty, although, the Hardtails available via the scheme don't apear to be all that great, a standard Chisel being about the best on offer.
    Specialised report that as a 5'11 reasonably heavyset guy, i'd be best going for an S4 which, in Epic Evo terms i think would land on a large...what's your thoughts on that...do they tend to size you up in their automated assessment utility or is it pretty accurate?
    Thanks for any feedback you may have.

    I’m also curious how the bc40 compares in 100/100 to the Supercaliber in terms of race speed. Always a debate for me on race speed vs descending capability for everything outside the race tape.

    • @bicyclestation
      @bicyclestation  5 місяців тому +1

      Compared to the gen 1 supercaliber the bc40s geometry is much better and I’d say the bc40 100/100 is far superior to the gen 1 supercaliber. The gen 2 supercaliber basically has the same geometry as the 100/100 bc40 and I’d argue it’s a decision between if you want the stiffer more efficient suspension and heavier weight of supercaliber gen 2 or the lighter more forgiving suspension of the 100/100 bc40

    Any advice to make to the base evo model more pedal friendly without spending $1500 on new suspension? It's a great bike but I definitely miss the power transfer and efficiency during xco and xcc races. The 3-pos remote setup sounds ideal but ugh it's spendy.

    • @bicyclestation
      @bicyclestation  5 місяців тому

      It’s definitely ideal to just invest in the suspension but possibly volume spacers? The issue with that is you compromise in the rougher stuff by stifling the suspension

      Next time you get the suspension rebuilt, have a heavy compression shim stack installed in both the shock and fork.

    I was in debate between BC40 and the Hei Hei CRDL. I ended up going Hei Hei and I am running all Manitou Suspension. That was key. The Rock Shock and Fox Suspension were just awful. I put on Mara Inline in rear and snap the small bump and pedaling efficiency was the best I have ever felt. As for Shock R7 Pro set up on 120. I think the Hei Hei would give both of these a run in my set up. Nice Review.

      Not having ridden it the geometry seems slightly outdated in comparison to the bc40. Unsure how both Fox and rockshox were terrible on the bike. That kinda sounds like an issue with the bike? What was the issue with the shocks?

    Great tip re: the bottle shift for the Evo, I went through the 5 stages of grief thinking 2 full size bottles were off the table on a medium frame.
    I think it's important for people to consider the Evo base a "third" bike for comparison. In this form, it is decidedly not a race bike. My opinion is that the platform is on the border between race bike and trail bike, and only when you dress it up in premium garb can it truly race capably.
    That said, the base Evo is a lot of fun even if it has a few unpolished quirks. To that end, I guess you could argue that Specialized marketed accurately.

      @bicyclestation  2 місяці тому

      Shortening the travel steepens the bike to 67 degrees. It’s not like it’s changing it dramatically. It steers and accelerates quicker due to the steeper head angle and shorter wheelbase.
