I mean, that’s kinda something that fans of the Epson RD1 enjoyed. It was a digital camera build within the frame of a Corina/Voightlander Bessa, and you had to cock the shutter by using an advance lever.
@@davidherringI mean, there’s a few great suggestions, but definitely turned parody once you started talking about $10 transfer fees, $300 CLA’s and hand checking 😂😂😂
So by this point most of us are aware that Leica hasn’t been able to fix the freezing issues in the m11 and m11p, yes they are still requiring a battery pop out reset. So with the m11D how do you know it’s frozen without a screen? Do you find out when you get home to download the images?
This is objectively ridiculous. But I would really want this camera 😅 Only thing I would remove out of the list is paying for the film development. As for storage, they could sell 13GB SD, with the look/ISO being a physical aspect of the card. You’d have a Portra 400 card, and it could do only that. And if remove it before the 36 shots, it wipes itself
@davidherring This is a common misconception but is indeed center weighted. If you remove the lens and cock the shutter you will see the white metering patch on the shutter curtain. According to the manual this has a diameter of 12mm, which is equal to 2/3 the height of the frame. Additionally the manual shows that if you are using the 28/35/50 lenses you can use the smaller frame lines 75/90/135 as a rough visual representation as to the size of the metering circle. Anyways, great vid as per usual!
Com'on Dave! When u started I was excited to get one but as soon as you started adding the cost, I got off tracked very fast. The bigger problem with film for some of us is not the cost, it's the availability of films, good labs to develop and scan and as you rightly mentioned the headache through airport security. I would get the new MD only to get rid of such headaches and better my present experience. I have been a very happy owner of the Leica M-D for last 7 years and for film I use my beloved M5 and leicaflex SL2. Now I can't wait for this new release. My only hope is that Leica keeps true to the roots and not have any gimmicks like the fake lever and plastic selector on the back panel we saw on the M10-D, though I hope we get colours like 240 or M10R. Like you, the Fujifilm didn't sing to me at all as soon as I held it, and my only interest in that camera was the film effects, if Leica is able to add Leica looks as default in the images, then its surely gonna be a winner, at least that will make me think about it- and yes...may be it will be in Brass as my laical M-D is. I will add this to my wish list as well :)
AND Leica could add a big brother model for Medium Format, and limit us to 12 shots for the 6x6 version and so on. The price should obviously double for the medium format options.
I'd love to see Leica taking pre-configured 4-GB-SD-Cards only. You configure them with a simple editor to dial a fixed ISO setting and a definite color grade to the camera. 4GB is just enough for a couple of dozen shots in TIFF format - pretty close to the original 135 film experience. And it should have a built-in fixed capacitor battery that is good for one SD card full of exposures. You could use either a (fake) rewind lever or (fake) film advance lever to charge that small battery with a couple of strokes. I know, this might be a challenge because the light meter would drain the battery - but why should a Leica need a light meter at all (or this fancy back-lit frame lines)? Given the 70th anniversary of the M3 - this truly retro-spec'd M3-D would crash the market.
They already made a camera that you described, it’s called m6. Leica D series are very niche cameras therefore they cost more than regular m262 and m10. I doubt that 10k camera (without a lens) can compete with 2k fuji.
@@davidherring I just catched my M11-D this morning. I was talking about this "niche in the niche" camera with the shop manager. He told me that, in the past, the Germans were using very basic Leica cameras (derived from the microscope's branch) to read and record the gas meters! No screen, hyperfocal only and no viewfinder is the next step!!! 😁
