I would say that what I dislike about the M11 is its slow startup time. I wish I could start shooting as soon as I switch it on. My X-Pro3 is faster in that regard. I don't have the issue of white lines turning red in the viewfinder, and I don't see what setup could create this problem. I also notice a tendency towards magenta, which bothers me as well; I have to correct it in post. Anyway, I've never enjoyed using a camera as much as I do today.
I have an M11M and I just decided to sell my Q2M and some other gear and have ordered an M11-P. Taking a deep breath having 2 M11 cameras and I am not a professional photographer. It is just that good.
I’ve a M11P, I used to have occasionally freezes like others did and often find the image review is often showing photos that are not complete with focus (but it is perfectly in focus when viewed in Capture One). This had been quite discouraging given the price tag. But after the recent 2.1.1 firmware update, almost all these freezing and display issues are gone, now I’m starting to fully enjoying this camera like I used to with my old M10P!
Between the repeated reports of the M11’s lock up issues and it’s double action click-click shutter movement and sound, the M10-R is still looking like the better option IMO. Especially factoring in the lower price. Yes the battery isn’t great, but you buy a spare or two, learn to shoot without LV or constant chimping, and all of the sudden it lasts surprisingly long.
Hi dave i just seen your video, I currently have the Leica SL3 looking for a leica M that gives me the best Image quality with a film look, should i buy a leica M10 or a leica M11, I am looking to have a good starting point straight out of camera, what do you recommend, battery life fast processor is not an issue for me. Thanks
If you can swing it, the M11 is fantastic. I had the M10 and the M10R but I love the M11 more. So many reasons (as I shared in this video). That said, if you can’t swing an M11, then the M10 is also a fantastic camera. Battery life isn’t great, and you have to be careful not to blow highlights, otherwise it’s great!
Regarding the slow comment… I’ve not had that issue at all with the V90 Sony Tough cards. But a couple things to try maybe. 1-writing to internal first. Maybe playback will be better 2-setting your image review to the “shutter press” setting which keeps the photo up for review after you take it as long as you hold the shutter down. When you totally release it, it goes away. I’ve always used this so I’m able to see it after I take it for as long as I want, and only if I want to. Cheers!
The red on the frame lines might be related to a parallax issue, or the frame lines mask might be off (and light is reflecting either through the prism or from the exposure lights). Just a thought :)
The M11 is a beautiful, lovingly designed, extraordinary camera. The lockup issue is certainly real, and in some instances goes beyond firmware, and, I suspect, related more to manufacture date (the later the better of course). I had a gently used M11 from 2022 that I purchased from a Leica dealer and it had persistent lockup issues, despite having the latest firmware. I tried all of the documented solutions: only certain memory cards, lens detection off, standing on one leg, etc., to no avail. I was able to return it and bought a new M11P, which has been trouble free. And yes, the Maestro IV processor in the Q3 is much more capable.
Glad your M11P has been trouble free. I low-key wish I had one haha. I just love the design. But it's the M11 for me for the foreseeable future. I hope they up the processing power in future cameras.
After mirrorless cameras in the 70s followed by SLRs, DSLRs, Mirrorless, the M11 was my first Leica. Without others for comparison this one seems to get mirrorless right.
Dave, great video. I have a question on lens for M11. I can't quite afford the summilux so is looking for an alternative 35mm. Are there any out there that you've tried and would highly recommend? Best regards.
Hands down, the 35mm Voigtlander Ultron VMII is my favorite 35mm outside of the Leica Summilux. Check out my galleries from Italy, Greece, and the Dolomites from last summer and you’ll see a ton of 35mm photos with this lens. dave.online/travels
@@davidherring Went to the local Leica store and after about an hour of test shooting, I was sold on the Summilux 35mm F1.4 FLE II. The tactile feel and one big factor is focus tab is buttery smooth. Voigtlander just felt a bit stiffer for making small fine-tuning. Thanks for the advise and keep up the good work.
I've had the M11 since the spring of 2022. I have only two freeze-ups. I have never had the color frame lines, which is interesting. Other than that, I agree with everything you said in your video. It was a good, entertaining video. I like the slow process with the M11; it makes me think about my composition. If I have to take action shots (sports, etc.), I shoot the Sony, but I liked your skate park video.
I've had mine just on 2 years. I generally agree with everything you say. However mine still freezes too often. On a full days shoot - once or twice a day. Recently in India with temperatures over 35c it was doing it more often. It has a habit of dropping my user profile and going back to the default profile. Also I wish it recognised third party lenses, eg Voigtlander.
So sorry you have been having that experience. I agree, it would be nice if they recognized third-party lenses. But that said, I understand why they don’t.
I haven’t used the M11 but I have used the M11M, and it’s such a phenomenal system. I get the file name thing on my M10 screen sometimes and it’s frustrating! Lol
Have had the m11p about 100 days and very happy. Maybe one freeze up, and yes slightly underpowered when compared to my z8/z9 and even zf. But then it doesn't have to do af, subject recognition etc. Would have been good to have the same processor as the q3, but relatively small nits. On balance this is, for its purpose, a phenomenal camera. Strong iq, satisfying ux, nice integration of old and new, just a great camera to actually hold and use. The 256 gb integrated storage is superior, and of course the glass ecosystem is a revelation. My strongest desire (heresy alert): would prefer an integrated evf. So you can calibrate my pov I think the nikon zf has about the best mf experience to date. But then I'm relatively new to rangefinder so this could change, ymmv etc etc etc.
Thanks for sharing. Regarding the EVF, I’m actually hoping they stay true to the M experience and don’t introduce this into the line. If they do. I expect they’ll do it similar to the X100 line and make it optional with a button.
@@davidherring that's fair. I would hope that the rangefinder is in it for the long term as well. I would just like evf as an optional, first class alternative, perhaps even as a different model. A Q with m-mount is another path to get to a similar result, but probably a larger chunk of engineering to getting there.
I suspect the slowness in the appearance of your image may be due to the SD card. Even though you are using a UHS II card, there may be some issues with that individual card. I have not seen the slowness in my camera.
I have the M11-P and have not experienced the buffering wait at all. However I have had it freeze up on four separate occasions and I am running the most current firmware 2.02. As for color, this is my third Leica digital camera. I had an original C-Lux with the Kodak CCD in it, a D-Lux 7 and now a M11-P, My impression is the M11-P is the closest to the original Kodak CCD C-Lux in look of any digital camera I have used. I have not played around with comparing the M11-P’s pictures at the three different resolutions yet, perhaps the pixel binning has a color impact. The M11-P has a different board in it because of the addition of the CAI, content authentication initiative hardware chip, maybe this has a impact on buffering performance or the 256Gb internal memory makes the camera faster. My only real complaint of the M11-P is the electronic shutter.
Leica owes its digital existence to Kodak. Leica use to write about how Kodak was the world expert in digital Leica wanted the best so they went to Kodak for development help and to buy the CCD sensor. Leica knew the value of digital photography but Kodak didn’t. Early on Kodak owned the CCD market but the had no understanding what they had and to much to loose from the film business. The engineers at Kodak understood color. I remember reading a lot of shade about how bad the M8 was when it came out, it was out of my budget but a C-Lux wasn’t. Changing to digital saved me tons of money in developing costs for work. Leica won’t be able to fix the rolling shutter issue until they return to a global shutter like they had in the original kodak CCD’s. The color science of sensors is interesting, I find Leica colors more accurate without being clinical, one things for sure there is as many variants in CMOS sensors as there is in film stocks. The M8 vs M11 will be an interesting comparison. I look forward to it.
I got mine from day one and I have only had one camera-freeze. About the processor being slow, try changing the memory card. That sometimes work for me. I use the fastest Sony Tough-series. Same goes with my SL3. I bought an ordinary CF-express card but I noticed that the camera acted slow so I invested in a Tough-cf-express and now it is as smooth as ever. And about the red frame lines- your composition is wrong. The camera knows. ;)
Thank you for this video. I agree with your opinions. I have not seen the red color on the white frame. My preferred meter setting is highlight weighted. Have you tried using this setting? I am happy with the M11 but still experience lock ups too often. Holding out for a firmware fix.
I have tried highlight weighted but it tends to underexpose a bit more than I like. Sorry you’ve experienced lock ups often! I can’t remember the last time I had that happen.
Excellent, im planning on swapping from hasselblad 907x 100c to a leica M11 and want to ask. Hows the customer service? I really love good customer service and hasselblad killed it with all the issues of the 907x 100c and made me look like an idiot when they said it was normal operations and send me a user manual.
My experience has been at the local level with Leica San Francisco. Service there has always been incredible. I’ve also experienced Leica Rome, which was also an incredible experience. I did have an issue where Leica SF put me in touch with Leica in Germany, and communication was good but a little slow. But my overall experience with the brand has been excellent customer service. If I remember correctly, DJI owns Hasselblad. It’s unfortunate that you had that service with them.
@@davidherring thanks for the info! Ive already ordered a used Leica M11 and it will arrive this week. Its good to hear that the customer service is good and yeah, it was bad to see hasselblad customer service fail so miserably. I respected them because of their history and most of the photographers I idolized used the hasselblad and it felt horrible to be given to shitty chinese support.
Customer service is good/excellent if you buy in a Leica store ;) when i had issue with my sl2-s they send me a sl2-s reporter to replace mine during the réparation (2month). And I wish I could keep the reporter, it’s beautiful hahaha
Totally agree with our review. I love mine m11, a bit to slow, mostly a bit to much of magenta but overall it feels and work so great for me. What metering methods do you use most of the time? Highlight weighted tends to be a bit underexposing. And I also use my m6 so I'm mostly in spot metering to have the same method as my m6. What's your method here, specially to compare to your analog metering?
I’m waiting for my 3rd copy (warranty). Freezes, file name showing up like you said, insane chromatic aberration (50apo) blamed on the sensor?! And streaky artifacts while shooting in bulb mode. Hoping New Jersey sends me a new one soon. Also turned in my lens for CLA (warranty) because it’s not as sharp as the name, reputation, and price promised. Still a fan, but all of this in my first year of shooting with it.
Wow, that is rough! Sorry that's been your experience. Do you have a Leica store nearby? I know when I've had issues, I can just pop into Leica SF and they take care of things, call people, and make stuff happen. I had preordered the 50mm close-focus when it came out, and when I got it, it was back-focusing. It was hard to get this lens, and they were able to secure me another one within a week and swap it out. I can't imagine calling Leica and trying to warranty it. Probably would have been months!
@@davidherring Thanks - ya, I bought it from the Leica store here in LA, and they've been great! I even went to Leica Paris, Florence, and eventually Wetzlar last summer - just after your trip to Europe, I think. The main guy there in Wetzlar customer service was able to replicate my streaky artifact problem there in the moment (erratic rows of black and colored bars on the images when in bulb mode). He took it to an engineer in the back who was able to repeat the problem too (phew!). I just happened to be there as a loyal Leica pilgrim. I got a new body out of that moment. Months later I was getting freezes and the file name on the display - as you said described. Anyway, I paid full retail for the best and "my last" camera (ha!) so I'm not ashamed of chasing every problem and expecting warranty support. Sadly, today is the one year plus a day, so from here on I'm hoping for stable joy. I'm asking for an M11P, even if I have to pay the difference - we'll see. Leica LA is helping me with that special request too. Thanks for your videos. Old Bay Area guy here (Berkeley, Oakland & San Jose), but now I'm down south.
@@joebrown479 The local Leica stores are fantastic aren't they? When I was in Rome, my sensor had gotten dirty and the Leica store there did a full camera cleaning, free of charge, and gave me some snacks while I waited. Then they let me take a Q3 out (right after launch) for a couple of hours. Can't say enough about the in-person Leica experience. I hope things get sorted for you soon!
@@davidherringYes, love the stores. In Florence they offered to let me take out a 28lux for a day. I was too scared so I politely declined. …scared I’d break it or buy it or both. In other news Leica in NJ called me yesterday to talk through my camera problems, for more context…trying to replicate the issue. Still waiting for a verdict, but very nice to talk to the actual person evaluating my M11.
My M11-P has a 23/11/6 mfg date on it from last fall, I’ve been using a SanDisc 280 megabit per second card at medium DNG & JPG with internal and card captured simultaneously when mine has locked up four times. A person speculated in the comments the card speed could be the issue, I wonder if the sandisk 90v which is 300md sec is the fix? (I’ll have to buy a faster card and try it.) Every time it’s locked up I’ve been pressing a button on the back when it has. This could also be a hardware error in the processor chipset as well. It would be nice to know.
I use a Lexar 2000x 128GB card and have no issues whatsoever. I use to use Sandisk but had one fail in 2020 and corrupt my files so I switched to Lexar and haven't had a single issue.
I also was writing to the card first then to the internal memory. I changed the settings to write to internal memory first then card as internal memory is always faster. Time will tell if that’s the fix.
M11-P user here - Living off the internal memory since getting it last month. Debating whether or not to use an actual card given that the internal storage is some 256GB. I have a brand new SANDISK Extreme Pro (300Mbp/s) waiting in the wings... Should I chance it, as I have yet to have a lockup.
Great review. For me the form factor is amazing. The choice of lenses on that thing is amazing. The internal storage is so good. And I agree on the colors…. You know I noticed the x2d shifted to magenta a bit too compared to x1d. The auto WB isn’t great either. I use manual WB. The SL3 same. I wonder if it’s not to prioritize skin tones… or if it’s a feature of Sony BSI sensors….
Interesting about the buffering delay, that is one thing I don't care for on my M9. Altho I'm sure the M11 is much faster than my old camera! I've heard some say the color on the M11 is more like the M9, I wonder how accurate that is? I do like the colors I'm getting on my M9, yet sometimes would like the larger file size for cropping as you mentioned.
To me, the M10R RAW files opened in Lightroom Classic desktop looking so much like Portra, in fact, like Portra 400 shot at 200 or 320 (about one stop overexposed). I loved that, and combined with excellent contrast yet softer finest details of the Leica 35mm f/1.4 ASPH, the images really looked like they'd been shot on that film. The M11, on the other hand, has a color balance that I don't like at all. For my preferences, it is worst to me than just leaning magenta, althogh I absolutly agree with you that it does. The camera also doesn't seem to respond well to any kind of difficult lighting situations, especially grey, drab, overcast lighting, which make the images just look weird. A much fun as it has been to carry various Leica film then digital bodies over a lot of years, I am thinking that I am just about over dealing with the colors, the lack of image stabilization (I enjoy street shooting at night) and the other quirks that you mention. They sure are fun, though! Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts.
Thanks for the comment. I definitely think the colors are much flatter than prior cameras, but they do edit much easier in post than my M10R. The look is less baked-in on the M11, in my opinion. Some hate that, others love it.
My M 10 turns red all the time but only when I try to shoot with the camera rotated thumb down. It seems like the camera doesn't know my eye is fully on the viewfinder and it turns red that's my guess.
I agree that the color balance is more magenta that previous bodies, but I prefer it compared to the Original Q which made everyone look sick because they were sick green. I wish Leica let us dial in the color balance like all other cameras.
Hi Dave, excellent review! I have the M11, what firmware have you got on your camera? Mine is 1.6.1. I've heard a few stories and issues upgrading to the latest firmware. Is this something you have had issues with or not? Cheers Jim
Interesting! I use really fast cards, same as my Sony A7SIII and A7RV, but have no issues there. But firmware transferring...that makes sense. I should try the internal memory.
Really solid review, but I'm surprised you moved from the M10R. A few more Mp, better battery life... but a whole load of issues the M10/P/R/M don't have. I think they tried to cram too much tech into the M11 and ran into hardware/heat issues. The increased complexity of the camera for me dilutes the M experience and the gremlins are unforgivable on a camera this expensive. Firmware updates just can't overcome fundamental problems.
That red lit on the frames seems to be leveling. I guess they tried to do it but may be some bug they did not fix so they don't even call it a function.
Couple of things: I think the freezing/bricking thing has to do with the speed and type of SD card used in conjunction with how the files are set to be stored. (I've only experienced it when I'm saving to SD + Internal and I'm using the full size DNG + JPG, with the JPG utilizing a customized Film Style). Since switching to a V90 with 512gb capacity, and only saving DNGs directly to the card, so far, I've escaped the weirdness. The VF frame line thing I think has to do with light entering at JUST the right angle and reflecting off of the red LED(s?) running to signal exposure. The frame lines are designed to be brighter in full sunlight and dim more grey in darkness to even how the eye sees them out a little, but I think there is probably some sort of design limitation internally that allows reflected light to bounce around and catch that LED, intermittently illuminating the frame lines red. Definitely do not believe it to be a feature, just an intermittent quirk that only shows itself with specific conditions.
I think you're likely right in most of this, but I don't think it was the light that made my frame lines red. They truly turned red in certain parts, as if it was intentional. So weird.
@@davidherring right, that's happened to me before as well, and like you - I thought I'd stumbled into some new feature that was buried somewhere. lol. But we know that, unlike the M6, the M11 has a hybrid way of displaying the frames lines. There is a mirror to throw the middle rectangle into the VF - and that's there whether or not the battery is in or not. So it's analogue using existing light only. The frame lines and the exposure display are both LEDs, and the frame lines switchable with the lens and/or lever. Clear LED for the frame lines and red for the exposure info. So there's a mirror and at least 2 sources of artificial light crammed into that small area. I'm hazarding a guess that the intermittent red frame lines is something unintended with a design quirk with those sources of light mingling. Something where the center box mirror catches the right light and the frame line detection thinks its brighter than it is - increased the power of the lines/exposure info, and the red led bleeds into the glass that is projecting the frame lines. Might be wrong - but that's my best theory to explain it. By it's intermittent and erratic nature (when I saw it happen to me, it was moving around in the frame lines as I moved around) I don't think it's a hidden design feature that they've not fully implemented.
@@ansleythestewart You're likely right. I wonder what conditions can replicate it! I first saw it in my living room when I was messing around with zone focusing different parts of the room from the couch. Then they appeared. They've appeared once or twice since then, but then they're gone. Haven't seen them in a while.
@@davidherring I've been trying since it happened to recreate it and still have yet to do so. lol. If it happens again, you'll be the first to know the deets.
Relatively new to M11. Got freeze up once because I tried to view pix while cam was still buffering. Even with zone focus, the M11 is NOT an action-capturing camera. Still rely on my Sony a1 for that. But a portrait study I did recently not only blew my subject away, it blew me away, too. Just fantastic. Diff'rent strokes, I guess. Thanks for your observations and thoughts
I wouldn’t classify the M system as an action camera at all, but I did have fun using it at the skate park! There’s definitely something different about portraits and daily life on the M, though. It’s beautiful.
Hi Dave, Thanks for your videos, some really useful information. I’m currently looking at buying into the Leica M system, but saw a video yesterday that worried me slightly. In it, it was highlighted that knocking or dropping the camera is likely to result in problems with the focusing mechanism which will require a costly repair by Leica. It was suggested that this is likely to be required about once a year! What is your ex[experience of this? Many thanks. Jim
I’ve had three digital rangefinders - M10, M10R, and M11. Both the M10 and M10R were used when I bought them. I treated them normally - didn’t baby them, but also didn’t throw them around - and I’ve never had an issue. Yes, due to the mechanical nature of this camera, I could see the focusing alignment getting knocked around. But even my M6 which is as old as I am still works fine. I think those concerns are a bit extreme, and if you treat your cameras as anyone would, you’ll be fine.
Yes, you are right, the rangefinder needs to be adjusted from time to time. I don't think this needs to be done every year. And yes, the M11 has endless problems that I still can’t solve. It has already been repaired twice, but it still does not work as it should.
I too have found that the rangefinder calibration is very stable. Once done I've not had to touch it again over - this being turn now over 2+ years. That said it is also easy to correct yourself.
Thanks for sharing. You wont have magenta dominance if you use manual white balance. Try it and let me know. That is what I am doing for all my production. Use the manual white balance in your editing software and bingo.
I have an M11 until later today when the rental is getting shipped back. It’s OK, but I won’t be buying one. One thing is the rangefinder not being able to give any indication of filter effects. It’s an obvious fundamental, but not one that I thought about or one that any YT video had mentioned. I shoot a lot of nature and use a polarizer to take the glare off leaves, wet rocks and such. On a rangefinder camera I have to use the rear screen, which I would need reading glasses to see properly. I also rented the visoflex 2, which I can adjust for my eyesight. However I find that unit to be poor compared with the EVF on my mirrorless camera. Similarly in low light (which the sensor is well able to deal with) I cannot see my camera settings without that crummy viewfinder. No rangefinder camera for me.
Having owned 9 Leica cameras so far, I can say it is the LESS RELIABLE brand and the absolute WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! - Leica M9-P and MM1: cracked sensor. - Leica S2: corroded sensor. - Leica S007: video card failure on the first shoot. It took 6 months to Leica to fix it and it is only after a long ranting post on GetDPI and LFI that they fixed it. Leica doesn’t like to be trash talked… All bought new, of course. The Q1 and M246 have been quite reliable though and I still love my M6 Titanium and my M5 with modified lugs. I have never had ANY problems with my Nikon D3X, Canon 5DmkIV, Nikon Zfc or Zf (FANTASTIC CAMERA!!!) My personal experience here.
It is such a beautiful camera and such a wonderful tool. But it is a shame that Leica is not able to fix such a simple bug, looks like an issue of 15 or 20 year old digital cameras from a time where camera software was built by camera engineers and not by software developers. It is a shame Leica for such an expensive cameras. Leica gives a shit on the users.
I wonder if it's hardware. Seems earlier serial numbers have the issues, later ones do not. It's perhaps unredeemable with firmware. I have no idea, but I know I've never had issues, and I know a few people who also have later versions and they have no issues either. It is unfortunate, though.
LMAO. My first Windows PC in about 1998 had a 1 GB spinning hard drive which had to be split into two 500 drives virtually because the software couldn’t address a full GB as a single drive!!
I held off, and held off, afraid of the commitment (cost!) but finally grabbed the M11P. LOVE. I'm with you!
Nice! Yeah, I think it's a safe buy!

Regarding the slow comment…
I’ve not had that issue at all with the V90 Sony Tough cards.
But a couple things to try maybe.
1-writing to internal first. Maybe playback will be better
2-setting your image review to the “shutter press” setting which keeps the photo up for review after you take it as long as you hold the shutter down. When you totally release it, it goes away. I’ve always used this so I’m able to see it after I take it for as long as I want, and only if I want to.
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing the tips!
The red on the frame lines might be related to a parallax issue, or the frame lines mask might be off (and light is reflecting either through the prism or from the exposure lights).
Just a thought :)
Possibly. It was so weird and short lived.
Lockup happened frequently with my qp. Never had an issue with the m10p or qp after latest updates
Good to hear you don't have issues these days!
Well I am heading over there!!! The family agreed to go and join you! And enjoy the place!
That’s awesome! Stoked!
After mirrorless cameras in the 70s followed by SLRs, DSLRs, Mirrorless, the M11 was my first Leica. Without others for comparison this one seems to get mirrorless right.
It really does!
@@davidherring Thanks. I will definitely check them out.
I wish I could replicate or explain the color on the frame lines. So weird. Thanks for the comment!
Lol
I think they’ve always underpowered the camera a bit. Man I’d love to play with an M11M sometime!
Dave, What card do you use and what size? Thank you.. Also, did you sell your M10 and M10-R to buy the M11?
I use a Lexar 2000x, 128GB. amzn.to/4ef5LUH
Yes, I sold to fund the M11. I typically sell when I upgrade modern cameras.
Oh I HATE the electronic shutter on all M cameras. I never use it. Also, I have an M8 on the way to mess around with an old Leica / Kodak CCD sensor.
The camera knows. ;)
Haha I guess the camera knows when my photos are awful and warns me!
I mostly just use multi-metering. I try to properly expose most of the time, and don't really worry about the highlights on this sensor.
I agree with you. The light meter is very accurate. Compared to my Hasselblad x1d and x2d the M11 is way better.
It’s the best meter on any M so far as well!
can you link where to buy the black sticker for the red dot?
Link is in my description 💪🏼
I had 5 m11 based bodies and they all frozed (even m11-p), i ll happy to try with m11-D bp ..in the meantime pretty happy with Sl3
Omg, insane. What a string of bad luck!
Also…. That usbc port is such a god send IMO
Agreed!
I wonder if these more modern sensors are all shifting to magenta. Would be curious to see how Canon, Fuji, and Nikon users with newer cameras feel.
I just bought an M8, for science. Going to do some research in the legendary colors of the M8, maybe the M9 next.
@@davidherring That will be an interesting comparison. If I lived in your area I'd let you check out my M9.
Why need 61 MP file on a rangefinder camera? You may not have your subject accurately focused with a 50 mm lens (it is ok with wide angle lenses).
I have no problem focusing at 50mm, and I suspect most people can nail focus as well. Especially just snapped to infinity. Thanks for the comment.
Interesting! I wonder if that’s where the red lines come from.
I agree that the color balance is more magenta that previous bodies, but I prefer it compared to the Original Q which made everyone look sick because they were sick green. I wish Leica let us dial in the color balance like all other cameras.
That would be nice!
Hi Dave, excellent review! I have the M11, what firmware have you got on your camera? Mine is 1.6.1. I've heard a few stories and issues upgrading to the latest firmware. Is this something you have had issues with or not? Cheers Jim
I'm running 2.0.2 with no issues!
The problem is not from the processor. This problem is from the SD file transfer. Leica is working on this for a new firmware.
I haven't had any issues with the M11. Very happy with the move.
That red lit on the frames seems to be leveling. I guess they tried to do it but may be some bug they did not fix so they don't even call it a function.
I thought that too but it didn’t behave that way. Then it just… stopped and I never saw it again.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your videos, some really useful information.
This has not been my experience, but I recognize that many people have had issues with their M11.
@@davidherring You are just a lucky guy :)
I too have found that the rangefinder calibration is very stable. Once done I've not had to touch it again over - this being turn now over 2+ years. That said it is also easy to correct yourself.
Maybe if you shoot at 36mp then you can chimp quicker without the process wait.
Sometimes, but I mostly shoot at full-res.
Thanks for sharing. You wont have magenta dominance if you use manual white balance. Try it and let me know. That is what I am doing for all my production. Use the manual white balance in your editing software and bingo.
Yeah I typically shoot a custom white balance.
Yeah, sounds like the rangefinder isn’t the right tool for what you’re trying to do. If you like the Leica look, consider the SL series as an option.
It’s a camera for the real photographer who doesn’t need information while shooting‼️
Leica doesn’t like to be trash talked…
All bought new, of course.
The Q1 and M246 have been quite reliable though and I still love my M6 Titanium and my M5 with modified lugs.
I have never had ANY problems with my Nikon D3X, Canon 5DmkIV, Nikon Zfc or Zf (FANTASTIC CAMERA!!!)
My personal experience here.
To each their own.
Of course the battery is good, the sensor is not in use all the time like in mirrorless
The M10 / M10R battery was horrible and the sensor wasn’t in use all the time. The M11 battery is an improvement, period.
I think an M is not a camera for sports photography. Happy with my M-10R.
For sure. But I enjoyed taking photos at the skate park with it!
@@davidherring When you were shooting at the skate park in high speed, did you use zone focusing?
@@nickditoro no, just following them around with the tab. Can't really zone focus wide open.

LMAO. My first Windows PC in about 1998 had a 1 GB spinning hard drive which had to be split into two 500 drives virtually because the software couldn’t address a full GB as a single drive!!
