I always wanted everything to be perfect or I wouldn’t start at all. I just gave it a shot and it was a wonderful experience. I met so many wonderful people that supported my vision
Dude, you are always dropping the videos I need. Spent the weekend shooting a short film, and even though I bit off more than I can chew, I'm still sat here thankful that I went for it and that I made the time and scheduled it out and took a shot a my first scripted short. I owe so much of my knowledge to you man. Appreciate you!
bro, what you saying is just real. i have this passion, that since i was kid i make little films, edits, evertything. But the worst thing is when you is forced to do something that you don´t want, and you don´t have the good results as the other projects. Im not saying that you have to leave what you do to live your dreams but you only can achieve creativity and originality doing, in every single aspect, what do you want.
Danny i’m so grateful for this video and your vision, art. Your experience is so inspiring and i’m in love with you as a filmmaker 🙏🏻 My whole life i’m telling myself i should become a graphic designer and a professional artist just because it’s “the only thing i do well”. No it’s not. I love making short videos, cinematic vlogs, i’ve been filming “aesthetic” video’s since grade 5th, i love filmmaking, colour grading, editing so much! Have i ever posted any of my projects? No. I was scared of people’s opinions, of “wasting” my time on projects that doesn’t help me make money, that are just silly projects that no one else but me might see. That’s so wrong and dumb! I don’t want to lose that spark and passion to make silly little projects, they are not meaningless at all! now i understand that life goes on and what i’m really wasting my time on is things i don’t want to do. Ever since i’ve watched documentaries for the first time i want to film my own documentary so bad. I’m finally ready and so excited to be open minded and create without any fear of being judged or wasting my time or energy on something useless. I still love graphic design and painting, but the passion i have for filmmaking is so strong, i have to at least give it a try🙏🏻💗 English is my 3rd language i hope anybody that reads this comment fully understands its message
I love this, Danny. I've spent the past few weeks planning a passion project after falling into a black hole of yours and Eric Floberg's work. It made me realised that I've been putting everything into commercial work and, I hadn't, but was in danger of losing that spark. Appreciate you putting this out man, thank you.
I’m having my first table shoot for one of my passion projects next month! This couldn’t have been timed any better. I love you too, Danny! Thank you for being my inspiration.
I've been watching your channel for awhile Danny and I wanted to thank you for being a huge inspiration. Finally made my first short film and it really would not have been possible without your channel inspiring me. Much love!
Danny, you hit me in the heart with 3:40 speaking about the money. Making an excuse with the money projects, you were spitting. Thanks for the advice and much love again.
Thanks for this Danny! I'm in the process of developing my biggest passion project yet, so your channel is essentially a filmmaking bible for me at the moment. A lot of people let distractions and excuses stop them from making what they know is most meaningful, so having your voice drown out that noise is super helpful. Thanks and sending love from Brisbane, Australia.
This is a video I can continually return to , to remind myself of what creating films are all about. Borderline emotional from moral support i have found within this. True self expression brother thank you for being so human.
For me the hardest part of all is "find your people". I'm naturally introverted and coping with anxiety every day, just getting myself out there to meet people is honestly harder than anything I've ever done in filmmaking, and I've shot/directed/edited/motion graphixed two feature-length documentaries back-to-back. It is SO HARD for me to find my people, and I live in Chicago, where I'm pretty sure there are many solid filmmakers and creatives out there for me to meet. I don't know how to get over that and I think about it every single day. I go to networking events, film festivals, chat with people online, even invest in classes so I can meet like-minded people and learn a few things in the process. And still, it never EVER gets easier.
Thank you Danny! I learn a lot from you! Thanks for motivating me to believe in my work! I have a little YT channel. That is my learning field! That is my classroom. That is what I do! Just getting started being a filmmaker. Thanks for the help! Have a fun, safe weekend!
Man you always come in with some realness when I need it. I was in a rut cause of this new video production job but it’s so corporate but now participating in a horror short contest and feel excited again! Plus when needed for an extra umph I think bout meetin you and seeing your success in the private screening in LA. I really appreciate your support and motivation Danny !!
thank you so much for the advice danny this video gave me more motivation to start working harder. you’re such an amazing creator and you inspire me and so many others! :)
Hey Danny. A good friend of mine sent me your channel. I'm a senior in college who works in video, I love the work I do but it's incredibly hard to get started on my own. I always feel like I piggy back off of others but I've realized that doesn't matter. I'm young and just ggetting started, I can't afford a nice camera and a gimbal but what I do have is incredible friends who want to help me out and create with them. I've defiantly made some stinkers in the past couple years but that happens, thats life. Today is a new day and what matters is that I try, no matter what. Thank you
Been in the industry for over 15 years and although I love doing what I do I lost what I got into this business to do. This video is exactly what most filmmakers need to get going kudos my friend.
Hey danny as someone who is trynna begin his filmmaking journey , I should say that your videos are just so inspiring and I love your style of filmmaking. That is what I've always imagined in my mind. To make videos with strong stories and stunning shots. Way to go pal❤️
I'm in the concept/writing stage of writing a short film. I'm still trying to find the process of writing for me. I heard either Tarento, or the guy who wrote Social Network, or both, say something like writing the script is just 20% and thinking about the script is 80%. I'm trying to find an idea that sticks, that I can shoot with a realistic budget, and is my film. The film that wouldn't exist unless I made it. I'm at the point at my job where I need to remove my desire to make art, and focus on giving the client a marketing asset that works for their goal. That's my job. My passion, is film. And it's becoming more and more evident that I NEED to make a film or I will eventual begin to resent my job. Thanks for the inspiration Danny.
Love this message Danny! It's such a good message for all of us, and is a super good reminder as to why we all got into this in the first place. Great video, we appreciate you! Ok brb I'm gonna go make my passion project now 😉
Spent the last few months trying to shoot a feature film in Colombia! Flew to the Amazon, worked with farmers and in factories and the whole thing failed! Learned so much more than I would have if I didn't try hahahha
As Marshawn Lynch’s word say “I’m about that action boss”. That’s what I think when it comes to you bro, you’re a man of action and have proof it works! Needed to hear this today 😬
Bro just like 2 seconds before u said I love you, I said "I love you man" , which was gonna be my comment here. Crazy... I felt you and thank you for this ❤
I have a passion project I keep on the back burner... I have a few dreams too. One of my biggest hurdles is that I'm not a writer or a director. The hurdle is finding collaborators and I've been workin on that but I could do more. I'm making some of the best and most fun client work because I finally started reaching out to people with talent that matches mine but in a different lane. I'm almost fully scratching that passion side by lucking out with creators that want to make rad stuff and pay me to do it. I should probably watch this video a few more times, I really need that fire lit under me to make my own projects a priority - and that extends beyond filmmaking... I've been telling myself for too long that I'd record another professional EP. I need to make music, I need to make art.
Wish I had passion projects to do, I have been so mentally and physically drained for the last three years just trying to make a basic living, that I struggle to be creative.
Love you Danny! I like your pants. If I Think I'm Sick gets selected for another festival, I'll be going to it, no matter where it is. Hope you 3 are doing well! Bye
Thank you for this Video. The question I often ask myself is, why should I do it? Why does this world need my film? I worked already on 60+ Music Videos and other type of Videos. But couldn't find time to do a Shortmovie :( Because of the questions I ask myself everytime.. But one day I will do it because of you! I keep watching your stuffs and this motivates me so much! Thank you!!!
Love your work Danny! There's just something about your colors. I would die for a video about your colorgrading process on these simpel talking head setups. I just can't seem to make my fx3 look so soothing.
I needed this video. This week I made a video that I had an idea for a year. I had a lot of doubts about whether it was worth it. After telling friends about it, we got together and filmed it. Absolutely brotha!
Jacques!!!

You dropping this, today, is WILD. Thanks Danny.
"It really just makes filmmaking start to feel more like a job than a passion". Wow so true!
danny been that guy is that guy and will forever be that guy !!!!!! this moved me to start working on my 1ST short
I always wanted everything to be perfect or I wouldn’t start at all. I just gave it a shot and it was a wonderful experience. I met so many wonderful people that supported my vision

Man all of all the screenwriting channels I've been to, this is the BEST one so far. Like wow!!!
I love this, Danny. I've spent the past few weeks planning a passion project after falling into a black hole of yours and Eric Floberg's work. It made me realised that I've been putting everything into commercial work and, I hadn't, but was in danger of losing that spark.

I agree, what a legend.

Danny you are the best
Thanks man!
Hey Danny, congratulations on the work. I followed the entire "I Think I'm Sick" BTS and learned a lot from your production. Would you make a video about how you organized the entire film production using Milanote? Schedules, shotlists, optimization of production days, etc. I feel that the lack of organization in some stages may be holding me back and your workflow seems to be quite correct for this project.
thanks, Danny, your video helping me a lot
Amazing to hear man. Thank you!
Now, i'm 38yo, and starting to think more about my life and of what i'm doing with it... Am I doing what I love?.. practicing my passions? I work as a archtecture 3d artist for 16 years and i always thougt that it was my passion.. and it is.. also.. but in this point of my life i find my self thinking about it and i just realized that it is more of my money fount than my real passion.. now i want so badly to create more, create something with my visons and stuff.. u know.. the problem is everything you said in the begining of you're video.. specially time.. i work about 12hrs a day.. and when a have real free time, i want to give my wife attention or just rest a bit... i wish i could do more photography and cinematography because i realized that is what makes me hole. I just can't find the time and energy to do so.. for instance, i have a bunch of shots from my france travel and i just can't start editing.. i know there are a lot of excuses to do in our heads too.. because when we really want something, we make time..make it real.. i've been there when i was starting my 3d carreer so many years ago.. maibe i've became lazy? anyway... that was just another rant... i just wanted to put it out.. lolol.. Congrats dude.. you are a really nice guy and have so much talent!
Thanks for the kick up! 🙏🏻
Yes sir!
I just received a $10k grant to make my passion project. Our first read through is today! It’s a short drama. I’m Alaskan Native - Haida - we have less than a handful of fluent speakers left. This films comes with the question of if you (a parent) pass away today, will you child/ren know enough to keep the culture alive.
Sounds like an awesome project. Goodluck on production!
Great video! Mind if I ask what the glass in front of your glass was for the feature film? Black Satin 1/4?
Love you danny
Love you!
YES my friend 💪🏼 I only make my passion projects 😅 because filmmaking is not my work 😂
You are the reason I got inspiration if you like I recently made three passion projects on my channel inspired by you
Amazing dude! Thank you!
Passion 🎉
