Haha wait whut. I've been following this channel for a long time, but skipped the one video Luc used one of my videos in, lol. 3:58 is an old little branded doc I did for some friends. Cool you've noticed this! Cheers man!
Hey Luc, since I found your channel, I’ve been pretty much binge-watching your content. I just finished my filmmaking apprenticeship in Germany and am starting out as a freelance filmmaker now. Your content is really helping me figure out a lot of questions that pop up in my head.
Have you guys shot spec work before? Has it helped? Let me know! And if you want to grab that deal on royalty free music Audiio Pro Plan, go to audiio.com/lucforsyth and use the code Luc70. Happy shooting!
Going through this process now focused on the purpose-led business world. What I'm realising as you've mentioned, that everything takes time. To obviously find the stories, plan and create the spec work but also to get noticed!
My advice is to just go companies that don’t know much about video work ..still get paid $5k+ and they don’t care about other work as long as you just know what you’re doing. I just show them my camera and they’ve like geesh!! 😂
@@directorjayalex I live in NY nd use sharegrid on the weekends rentals count as 1 day so Friday Saturday Sunday will be 1 day and I would have a camera all weekend and use it for other clients make that money right back
Very informative (useful problem solving wise) Track record etc, spec projects (good tip) going down the "Branded content' find additional crew is challenging. Great piece of informative content Thanks Luc.
Great video as always! Curious, when you get to the point of sending to them to the agencies, could you possibly produce a video explaining this in detail? No reply seems to be a too often reality. Are you scheduling meetings and presenting them your demos or just cold sending them to agencies? Thanks
nice advice , i think i will try to make small commercial video for friends that have restorant ,bar , or other craft shops , yee could be cool , to build some portfolio , got alredy a friend that ask me for his barber shop ,
One of the first songs I played on Audiio convinced me to get a subscription and I already have paid subscriptions at Epidemic, Envato and Motion. But I also wanted to help support you Luc because your information and experience is quite valuable to me, keep up the great work man! Can't wait to see the current projects you are working on. You should compile a list of all the projects you have worked on in the past and how and where we can view them. I would personally watch them all if I knew where they were.
That's incredibly kind of you, don't know what to say! But glad you're finding value there, I just scored a 20 minute short using only Audiio, so I really do think it's a great option for a crazy price. Appreciate you!
Yea spec ad is good but they never gonna knock at your door and pay you 10k for a project if they don’t know you.. there is a whole selling process in the video industry nobody is talking about
Great video! Things I already knew but a great refresher again. Especially not to make just one really great piece and expect the phone to just start ringing. 😅 Thanks again for al the valuable information you are sharing with us for free!
Yes this, I also felt that having a youtube channel may make you more an authority or expert to clients. Not sure though as I don’t have same sub count as Luc
@@BikeEatRepeat it helps for sure, it’s definitely the best self promotion for filmmakers out there, much better than a traditional web site. Going to do a video may 1 about this exact thing!
So much value in this information. Thanks very much for sharing all your experience. After 2 years now Im creating a reel for this purpose, getting work, and Ive gone over and over with format and wether its important to make them anymore. Just helped with the decision. #goteam
I absolutely love your videos. Simple, interesting and straight to the point and yet, informative. Congrats for the content! Sorry for the intrusive question, but have you regretted transitioning from photography to video? I’m a beginner and I’m really doubtful on which industry to focus on and which one is going to remain in demand in the next few years. If you have a video explaining that, you can just say it and I’ll search for it!
Hey man, this is a great question. The short answer is no, but if it's ok with you I'm going to do a longer answer in my monthly newsletter because this isn't the first time I've been asked. The simple answer is that I enjoy the act of shooting photos more, but I prefer the end results from video more - i.e. I lose interest in my own photos pretty fast after I've taken them. And when it comes to making a living, video is miles easier. Check out the newsletter if you want a longer answer though, and thanks for the great question.

I love your quote “Think local…and keep it MANAGEABLE”😊
thanks! Yeah that's key, otherwise it just doesn't get done
One thing I realized too is find producers contact producers on upcoming projects they have etc they’re the ones that usually hire on bigger sets
Yes, definitely. Producers hold the cash!
This is the best and most powerful/encouraging video I´ve seen in a while. "Keep it simple and realistic", this is how realuty works. Thanks boss

This could not have come out at a better time! And I literally just used Audiio for some spec work over the weekend
nice one!

This was great. Feeling very appreciative of these videos as a filmmaker finding it difficult to get started, especially without my own gear.

Great advice! Interested to see how you go about connecting with the right people at larger companies!
The short version is just making a big list and sending a ton of emails!

very insightful! excellent content!

I would love to be able to see what kind of work you were talking about. Where can I find the bike shop video you were talking about?

So stay humble, do free work, build a body of work and work hard. And maybe then you will start to earn a bit of your 20k investement back. Im on it!
Haha, you can definitely earn it back
Can you make the audio link clickable?
my bad! Sorry about that!
13 mins just say spec work smh

So many bad royalty free music sites out there
