  • When the bowls leave the factory, they are coated in a light layer of vegetable oil which you will need to remove with a little washing up liquid and soft sponge. make sure you don't use the abrasive side of a sponge when cleaning as you don't want to scratch your bowl.
Turn your oven on to heat up at around 180 Celsius and thoroughly dry the bowl. place it in the oven for 2-3 minutes to completely dry before carefully removing and allowing to cool slightly
Take a cloth and wipe a very thin layer of vegetable oil over both the inside and outside of the bowl then place them back to the oven, upside down for around 20 minutes at 220 Celsius.
Once the 20 minutes is up, carefully remove the bowl using an oven glove and repeat another thin coat of oil
Pop back in the oven for another 20 minutes before repeating for a third time
By now your bowl will have started to obtain a basic level of seasoning to protect both the bowl, and allow effortless non-stick cooking, and begun its journey to the well-seasoned, completely black Balti bowls you commonly see online
Over time as you use the bowl it will gradually become darker as the seasoning builds with each cook. just remember to look after your Birmingham Balti bowl after each use by washing carefully, drying well and storing with a little coat of vegetable oil ready for its next use.
If you want to accelerate the blackened look of a more aged bowl simply place the bowl over a high gas flame for around 5 minutes.
The bowls are safe to use on gas, electric, AGA, induction and BBQ and you may be interested to know a recent study estimated that one Balti cooked in a Birmingham Balti bowl contains 25 times the amount of iron as a single pint of Guinness

@@TheCurryKid I hate you, I'm trying to get you channel banned, look at me eee, I've gained like 3 fekin stone, all my tea towels are now yellow, neighbour told me he's put an complaint in to the council about our Indian takeaway because he thinks they've got no filtration system, people now call me Raj, you can't move in the freezer because of the curry base containers, and not to mention the toilet paper I'm going through, but on a serious note because of you, latifs and Grandpa's kitchen, I've learnt hell of a lot on spices over the last couple of years and I'm now in my 50s, Christ we've bought balti dishes along with those candle top food warmers, went into Claire's food store City Road in Cardiff and spent over 60 quid one day on just spices, Josh hope you can fulfil your ambition and become one day one great fantastic chef, as an marine engineer and master builder you never ever ever too old to learn, some say my food taste better than the takeaway,

LOL, you sound like my dad :) He has to boil wash everything to get it clean, the whole house stinks of curry 24/7 and he says he's getting bigger every day. Curry: dangerous hobby. :)

Hi, no just ready to use.
Each time I use it I give it a little wipe of oil first (not sure if it makes a difference it's just what I do) then after use wash with warm water, dry, put on the gas flame for 30 seconds to really dry it out then wipe a small amount of oil on it again to stop it rusting
Never had a single bit or rust and nothing ever stuck to it. Great little bits of kit
      Enjoy :)

Hi, I have a glass electric hob. After the outside has been seasoned, will it be okay to cook on the glass? I'm just a bit worried it might mark the glass in some way? Thanks!

    • @TheCurryKid
      @TheCurryKid  Рік тому +1

Hi, I've never cooked on a glass hob but in theory the coating should be so baked on it should become part of the bowl itself so shouldn't come off. I've never had any marks (apart from the burn marks) when placed down either

@@TheCurryKid Thank you for your reply. I've just popped it in the oven for its 3rd heat process and it did think the same that it appears a part of the bowl. Thanks again I can't wait to get cooking now. I do have a gas burner for the garden that I plan to use when it warms up a bit. Happy cooking! 👍🏻😀

LOL, I'm the same. Normally cook outside but done the last few inside as it's either been raining, snowing, pitch black or full of Christmas decoration boxes. Got a new gas stove going in the outside cook area soo so will be back out there soon. Enjoy :)
