- A Florida man died from a brain-eating amoeba likely contracted from a sinus rinse using tap water, according to multiple reports.
In a Feb. 23 release, the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County confirmed one case of Naegleria fowleri "possibly as a result of sinus rinse practices utilizing tap water."
Health officials from Charlotte County said they're continuing to investigate how exactly this infection occurred. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Naegleria fowleri infections are rare, and infections spread through tap water are even more uncommon.
The single-celled organism infects people when water enters the body through the nose, usually while swimming in warm freshwater lakes and rivers, the CDC said. You can't get infected with the brain-eating amoeba by drinking contaminated water.

It even says on the box for the neti pot, and in the instruction booklet for the neti pot that boiled or distilled water only is to be used.
Right. So I asked my doc about it and they insisted regular tap water was just fine as we aren’t a 3rd world country. Further proof doctors just don’t really know what they’re talking about a lot if the time.
@@FirstNameLastName-wt5to oh yeah there’s no way I’m putting just tapwater up in my nose. Not taking any chances.
😳So does everyone one uses distilled or boiled water to brush their teeth? I am just surprised with the comments… Just FYI There are glands under the thong that absorb liquids before they are swollen.
@@7luckym586 The brain eating amoeba enters specifically through the nose as it’s a quick passage to the brain. Like how Egyptians went through the nose to pull out brains. It takes that path.
@@7luckym586 from what I understand it’s to do with the blood brain barrier. So since you don’t put your toothbrush up your nose, there is not the danger there is in pouring a liquid up into your sinus cavity that contains amoebas that are designed to breach the blood brain barrier.
Anyone with his home address can check whether or not he has well water. This takes literally 2 seconds.
This is how Florida zombie man is created
I heard about this happening to some teenage kid jumping into a lake. The water rest into his nose as he entered. Sad
This is so sad. Prayers for his family and friends. 💔🙏🏻🛐🕊️🤲😭✝️🕯️♥️
I just blow my nose👃
RIP
Scary!
I only use distilled water. Have for years
Sad prayers
This reporter is unbelievably attractive.
Common sense needs to be more common
I think that happened in an episode of doctor House MD
Damn. What a way to go....
I only use Ocean nasal spray or an equivalent.
It tells you on the package to use distilled water. People choose to not use common sense and then pay for the consequences. It’s sad he died but those warning labels are for very good reasons.
Why is there a Covid fact check on this video?!
Welcome to marxism.
I was wondering the same thing.
Hmm... so...millions around the world use tap water for sinus rinse....one guy gets a rare brain parasite...and we all freak out?
Am I the only one that spent DECADES swimming/diving/playing in Florida springs, rivers, and lakes? Hell, I even fell in a few swamps as a kid, gross water all up in my nose and throat... I think this might be an isolated case, folks.
They did say it was more than likely water from a well and not something that went through a water treatment plant. Its rare for sure.
Very true.
Poor amoeba, he gonna starve down there in florida.
why? because you live there?
why? because you live there?
Your correct nothing but brainless hillbillys that marry they're family members but on a bright side we just got electricity and flushing toilets. Stay away from Florida please. We all good down here without you cupcake tards stinking things up.
why? Because you live there?
This is why you always boil before using in Neti pot.
The instructions say to only used distilled water
@@jamiebiera598 not on the neti pot that I have had it always says, distilled or boiled.
Only use "boiled" water if you're a fan of Russian roulette. 😁😤😏
The amoeba says, that guy brain was only a little snack.
Put a pan of water outside and go smell it the next day. If it smells like fish don't trust the outside. It's on all the outside areas from the air.
Research, “Death Triangle.” You’ll be real careful next time you pick your nose. Scary.
This is why they put on packaging to us distilled water...it's not there as a suggestion. So for the families loss of a loved on
Except my doctor insisted I’d be fine using tap water and I’m guessing many have given the same advice.
@@FirstNameLastName-wt5to I have found trusting Dr isn't always good. Be safe boil water or use distilled water 🤗 💕
Also not all says to only used distilled. Mine says “do not use unfiltered tap water” that’s extremely confusing and misleading. It should just say “ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER” in big bold letters and it should list the dangers of the product if not used correctly. I was using tap water and I just stopped today I’m so scared I threw that damn stupid crap away. I’ll just stick with nasal sprays going forward.
Ahhhh, I guess no one has heard of Detroit?
Most likely it have outside water getting into the drinking water. Someone going to be busy looking for that
Shit happens... Especially in Florida
"neti pot" lol or clearing after a snort ❄️❄️
That's why we Always use filters -
When will Florida man learn?
Why are people still using tap water for this? 🙄
Really. I ain't no expert on anything, but this sounds a little out there.
Am I the only one who thinks she looks really pissed off to be telling the news?
That’s just how she draws her eyebrows on.
Wow ..... tap water 💦 ☠️
Clean your machine and use distilled water. The dude didn’t follow instructions.
MEET GOD WITHIN 🙏
well, then. 😏
You mean people actually use those dopey things. Go figure
Not proven yet so sending the state into a state of terror😊
That’s why i drink bottled water
a good filter works too. Microplastics aren't as bad as brain eating amoebas, but you should still avoid them. Just don't drink the bottled water if it got left somewhere hot
Democrats...
... are ten times better than Republicans.
