When a qualified individual refutes those of innovation, this is a good thing. We should all do it. Every innovation is astray. Why should we be weak and let it slide into our youth? Our religion is and should be the most important aspect of our lives, so when someone introduces falsehood and/or newly invented matters into it, we must shut the door on it and refute it with daleel. Nothing wrong with that. If anything, we have too many weak standpoints on this issue today. May Allah make us all rightly guided and grant us success in this and all affairs.
DrKildem exactly, the issue is not the scholars justly refuting those who the spread falsehood rather it's those who claim to be students of knowledge and spread fitna rather than knowledge and believe they have the right to refute. Most times its without evidence/very weak evidence which becomes الغيبة (backbiting) or slanderous.
