Shaikh Ubaid Al-Jābiree (may Allah preserve him) said:
“They used to say [in the time of the Salaf]: «Test the people of Madinah by asking them about Mālik (died 179H); test the people of Syria by asking them about Al-Awzā‛ee (died 157H); test the people of Egypt by asking them about Layth Ibn Sa’d (died 175H); test the people of Mawsul by asking them about Al-Mu‛āfah Ibn ‛Imrān (died 185H).»
And this era the men are tested by asking them about Shaikh Rabee’ (may Allah preserve him).
And this is not an exaggeration or excessiveness concerning him - refuge is with Allah. However, it is as Imām Abu Hātim (died 264H) said: “From the signs of Ahlul-Bid‛ah is their reviling the People of Narrations.” (Al-Lālikā’ee 1/139)
So indeed from the signs of Ahlul-Bid‛ah in these times is their reviling of Shaikh Rabee’, for Ahlul-Bid‛ah are united upon hatred of him, just as Ahlus-Sunnah are united upon their love of him.”
Sheikh ul Islam ibn Taymiyyah says that this is a bid'ah. Imam Al Barbahari in his Sharh as Sunnah also says that this is an innovation, the only exception is using it for the Prophet SAWS, and sometimes for the companions - and even then, we say in sha Allah, that person would be a person of sunnah.
The people who test others with Rabee' al Madkhalee', or any other scholars are MUBTADIS, and as such THEY MUST NOT BE SAT WITH. This action came with the rawafid, and is also imitating the disbelievers in their extremism towards their leaders and religious figures. Beware brothers, for this speech is very dangerous.
May Allah bless the ‘ulema with barakah, rizq, contentment and jannat al firdous and protect them ❤

A person came to Imam malik rahimaullah and asked questions after questions, he only answered 4. Then the guy asked what am gonna tell to my people? You have not answered all the questions, he replied tell them Malik did not know. Imam ahmad ibn hambal used to say people want to make us bridge above the hellfire and cross it. So it is from knowledge that people of knowledge does not say things that does not benefit and they do not answer which they do not know. Fear Allah akhi, you're upon misguidance.
