I only played an exhibition match and thought it was pretty nice. Had a nice rally going and then I spiked one in to the net lol that really pissed me off but It was fun. I didn't buy the game when it first launched cuz the reviews were so bad and I forgot about it. So a whole year later I picked it up and after that first match I had Im confident I'll enjoy it even more as I play more. On a side note the commentary is absolutely dreadful

I think its tough for people to separate publishers from developers some times and yes, whilst the publishers have made some questionable decisions, you cant knock the devs for the support in the game at all and its lots of fun :) Career mode over on SwitchedOn Sports at the moment!
You are wrong (IMO).. this is as good as a tennis game gets. But I was a huge Top Spin fan also.. so i dunno.. maybe I just like the way this devs' games plays. I find it much more accessible than Mario Aces.. nothing is easier than Virtua Tennis, true, but that could be coming with Sega Ages anyway.. probably will really, with online matches for the first time too.. I've read some of the initial horror stories so was going to give it a pass, but if as you say, they have released patches to remove a lot of the bugs and issues... then £14 might be worth taking a chance with?
As someone who bought this game multiple times (at steep discounts on XBOX then later on Switch), I actually quite like TWT now... its not fantastic but it plays OK in short bursts for a portable tennis game. It has improved technically with patches (but then at launch it was barely playable with glitches, freeze bugs, control issues, missing content etc depending on your platform so could only improve really) but for a full price game (xbox legends version was 70 quid!) it was a VERY poor way to launch a game. To clarify, Big Ben are the publishers, (Breakpoint are the developers - they don't have much of a track record outside of this release though). At the time of launch, it was annoying that the online was dropped days before release and the devs made an initial comments about patching things in. The PS4 version got a couple of patches quickly that didn't really sort things but other versions were left behind. They then went radio silent for many months (to the point it was assumed the game had been abandoned) before patches started to trickle out again, finally fixing bugs. My suspicion was that the small studio went into meltdown after launch and it took months to sort things out. To make things worse, a french site interviewed a Big Ben director who stated that they knew the game was in a bad state but were confident it would still make a profit because the physical copies were non-returnable!! I don't know how well translated his comments were but that sums up Big Ben for me (look at their game track record of niche sports / racing games for example and they often launch games in a bad way with limited or slow patch support post launch) - a publisher I simply do not trust meaning I do deep research on their games before I buy now (I don't like punishing a developer for their publishers track record
Scott Nicol thanks for the information Scott. Totally agree with everything you said, I was trying to take it at face value as it stands as a game now. The launch was awful (and those comments about the profit was incredible and had to be lost in translation) but whilst a lot of people were really annoyed at the time, I think there is value in checking back in on these games. Lot of gamers will abandon a game unaware the developers want to fix things and these games can actually sometimes end up very different - Xenon Racer is another prime example!
@@SwitchedOn Whilst launching games with known technical / design issues is never a good thing, I give some credit to Ubisoft as a AAA publisher that have turned patching troubled games into good ones (with years of support post launch) into an art form... just look at Rainbow 6, The Division and For Honor over on XBOX / PS4...
I just got it with that price and I’m enjoying it . Take it with a grain of salt, I’m a casual gamer who loves to watch the real game and who is happy with short bursts of gameplay. I’m told some parts are not realistic, and I’m pretty sure my input when I hit while running doesn’t go through every now and then. Still it’s enjoyable for my current purpose of relaxing while I play as Federer. For the price I’m not complaining, and apparently the AO Tennis is pretty bad. I hope that helps !

Theres a button to hit inside out and to sprint? Thats really weird you think far dist running would auto sprint and inside out should be by aiming the control stick. I'm deciding whether to buy it right now, should I?
Yea not sure I fully understand inside out. I need to do the training event when it comes along. I'd say it's worth it for the low price of the physical for sure. No doubt Roland Garros is going to be £45/$60
If you can look past the graphics it's a good game. I went for wrc 8 being cheaper. Career is easily managed and not much faffing. You can also avoid it with season mode

Samh143 I like them both tbf - both have good and bad points, so may come down to cost/availability. If you can pick up the cart for Tennis World Tour, then maybe do that - see how it feels. In the UK I got TWT for around £11 which is perfect - and then with all the patches etc, its a very playable game. AO Tennis 2 still very early in its life, but already been patch 2-3 times and definitely has improved. BigAnt have a good reputation of fixing up games, so that could end up the undisputed king. Sorry its not really a definitive answer, but shows how close the games are - but with AO being so new (in terms of patches) and costing potentially 4x more, its hard to say 'get that' right now. If you DID though, I dont think you'd be disappointed...
As we're on the subject of games that improve with patches, have you come across this guys' website? He updates it several times a week and it lists all the latest patches on Switch games... I check it regularly and then dip back into my older games to see if the patch had a big effect on gameplay, framerate etc.. just resort by date to see whats been added recently... also useful to see if big new games get a day one patch :-) www.benoitren.be/switch-gamepatches.html

How do you rate the campaign mode in the WRC games? They have a 'ton' of that career and crew management malarky.

AO tennis 2 was patched over last 48 hours and seems much better performance wise. My review should be out tomorrow at the latest.

It scales nicely depending who you are playing. Try to go the South Africa route as I say, for under £10 you cant go wrong.
