    Alright I know this video is like a year old but I'm still getting comments basically every day saying the same things so here's an FAQ:
    Q: Song/Game name at [time]?
    A: Check the description
    Q: Website shown at 1:15?
    A: howlongtobeat.com
    Q: Why did you say that TF2 gets updates all the time? Are you an idiot?
    A: I started writing the script around the time that the whole #SaveTF2 thing was going on, and right before I started recording Valve tweeted out the thing saying "We hear you." To my own and (some of) the TF2 community's surprise, Valve didn't actually update the game; they just added a couple of hats and called it a day.
    Also, no, I don't play TF2. And yes, I'm kind of an idiot.
    Q: Why do you dislike grinding so much? Aren't you kind of hypocritical for liking games like Stardew Valley, but not JRPG's?
    A: Since uploading this video, I've changed my opinion a bit. Grinding isn't necessarily a bad thing, per se, but it needs to be treated extremely carefully. If the grinding itself is based off of interacting with the core gameplay loop, or is just really enjoyable, then I would consider it a good thing. However, inserting grinding just for the sake of grinding (e.g. adding a really long grinding section in your game because you realized it's only 2 hours long) is pretty much never a good thing. Then again, some people find grinding relaxing, which is totally fine; building your game around that specific audience can also be considered good game design.
    Q: Did you seriously end the video with "people play games cuz they're fun"?
    A: Kind of, yeah. When I was analyzing games that people have really high hour counts in, I found that while there are some pretty noticeable patterns amongst them, they're actually pretty varied in terms of gameplay. I then came to the realization that the only factor that every single one of the games I was looking at had in common was that certain people found them to be fun. I know that there are some people who have managed to put 5000+ hours into games like Plants vs. Zombies, and the only reason they give is "it's fun." Even if a game has none of the things that I mentioned, as long as people find it fun 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 is gonna find a way to sink hundreds of hours into it.
    Q: Why do you hate Genshin Impact so much? I find it really fun!
    A: If you find Genshin Impact fun, then that's great! I'm glad that you are able to find enjoyment in something that I couldn't. I personally dislike it due to the fact that every single barrier in the game just seems like it's put there just for the sake of being there, but if you enjoy it, all the power to you.
    Q: Why do sound like a dying pig?
    A: I was kinda sick when I started recording lines, but I just said "screw it" and continued to record them anyways. At the time of recording, the most amount of views one of my videos had ever gotten was like 500, so I really wasn't expecting anyone to hear the result of my poor decisions.
    Q: This video sucks.
    A: I know. I genuinely despise this video, despite it bringing so much attention to my channel. Please watch my newer videos; they're much better.

      Bruh, what do you mean?! This video is amazing! Honestly, you could've gone in harder on how much a pile of crap Genishin is.
      I noticed that the videos with only two words as a title and a thumbnail that's an open-ended question are usually what most people will click on.
      Also, please do a video this indie game called Darkwood👽

    • @SaucyBoy
      @SaucyBoy Рік тому +204

      @@pixelbit_ the new update isn't even gonna be major. there's no team of people working on the game anymore bc valve simply has other priorities, so the maybe one guy working on the tf2 team rn is now enlisting the tf2 community itself to contribute whatever they wanna see in the game, and that'll be handpicked from the workshop this summer.
      you probably just saw the fact that the very content-starved community hyped the blog post up way out of proportion, tho i am at least hopeful that this update will introduce some neat stuff that isn't just the same norm from the past 6 years.
      but yea, in theory, should've been a good example. you've got some quality videos
      edit: if i'd just watched a bit more of the video lol

Yes there is a lot of tasks you can complete to follow the games progression system rewards but since there is no "hailed endgame where the fun is" if you dont like it you just play through the quest and run around and explore in the overworld until you're either done or that's not fun anymore and then you quit. For me that game is/was Sea of Thieves. I could not get enough of it. There were different periods where I played in completely different ways throughout my journey with the game, such as doing PVE with 3 other people for a few months or doing solo PVP for another few. What a fantastic experience it was.
    Now the game has been getting worse and worse, until it reached its worst just recently, and I am left with pretty much nothing to play. No multiplayer experience feels nearly the same for me. God I hope Marathon will be good.

    • @baselghanem759
      @baselghanem759 9 місяців тому +3

      Was looking for this, it relies heavily on the "bad" grinding methods to keep players attracted, by giving ppl various dumb commendations for them to complete, same actions should be done over and over again for 100s if not even 1000s of times, for u to at last unlock a cosmetic which is just a re-colored variation of another cosmetic that can be bought with gold or money.
      It's trash, yet addicting, not because that the re-colored variations are good, but because you r hoping to get some good ppl that are grinding towards the same commendations u r grinding towards each time u press that "open crew" button, or joining a dc vc from the main sea of thieves dc.
      Game also suffers from 30% of players actively using cheats because it has no anti-cheat, trash storyline which has been milked for over 4 years now, like come on, this whole story could be told in a single year or 2.
      Not only that, but it has one of the worst types of bugs ur eyes can see, hitreg, which is basically hitting players 10s of times and non do count.
      Also there is no way of advancing ur fighting styles, cause u can sail for hours and don't find anyone worth of fighting, and once u start collecting loot, u get hijacked by a galleon of 4 players each having thousands of hours on game "ngl, I most likely be on that galley, but still my point is made clear", new pvp mode introduced doesn't help at all, since it relies on streaks for u to lvl up, yet it attracts 70% of the cheaters.
      And the list goes on and on, not even joking this is less than half of the problems this game suffers, I hope they start actually working on the game development rather than just introducing collabs to their game, the only reason this game is still not dead is because it hosts places for friends to group together lol.

    “Fun” is a big factor in replayability but sometimes it’s not the case. Gd for example is REALLY grindy when you play extremes constantly. The replayability in gd isn’t in the fun but the satisfaction of completing the grind of a level. Playing an extreme for months then getting the satisfaction of beating it is what keeps not only top players but the most of the player base to the game.

    • @pixelbit_
      @pixelbit_  9 місяців тому +4

      That's a fair point. While similar, I think there's a distinction to be made between "fun" and "satisfaction." Although, satisfaction kinda leads towards falling into the "high skill ceiling" category.

    Great video! Love the content, but there is something I'd like to add on.
    Since we are analyzing gameplay loops that make games enjoyable and infinitely re-playable, I wanted to give my two cents on the state of Genshin, as someone who has been playing it for 2+ years. As you've said, the game does get grindy when you want to strengthen your characters, but I don't believe this to be the crux of its issue.
    I want to first express what makes Genshin so great on a gameplay level. As a fellow Genshin theory crafter perfectly put it, Genshin has one of the most elegant combat systems in any game ever. This is not an exaggeration, the combat system's simplistic yet deep nature allows it to have a sort of floor and ceiling in terms of understanding and effectively utilizing it. Every two character interacts uniquely with each other, which is amazing for a character based combat game.
    Genshin's actual issue comes from the developers' unwillingness to make use of this cutting edge combat system. Story is great, and limited time events can be fun. But in its center, Genshin is a game about combat. Yet, the developers are acting like they're scared to put emphasis on combat, and god forbid, make something that isn't either too easy or too frustrating. And this isn't just me clinging onto some unrealistic dream. We have had combat focused limited time events that were some of the most fun I've had with Genshin's combat. Yet, the only combat system you have permanent access to is The Abyss, which most usually boils down to a dps check.
    And this damages the enjoyment gained from most other aspects of the game. Why are you grinding for your characters? To get them stronger. But for what? There is nothing in the game that challenges your actual skill. Why should you pull for new characters? To have them of course, but afterwards you don't have a good combat areas to test them out and enjoy having and using them.
    The newest game made by the developers of Genshin, aside from having a system similar to The Abyss, has an amazing permanent endgame combat system where you can really have fun using your characters. It is a testament to the developers' capability in creating such a system. The issue is that Genshin, with a combat system containing more depth and player engagement, lacks such a system.
    TL,DR Genshin has the potential to be an infinitely re-playable and ever expanding gameplay masterpiece, but the developers' attitude against implementing proper gameplay loops to facilitate their amazing combat system makes the game fall flat in terms of actual gameplay. I really hope that the devs will eventually come around to the idea that implementing substantial permanent gameplay loops will increase player rates, and that they don't always have to rely on the "fear of missing out" for their financial growth.
