Special thanks to you for actually taking the time to read the description. - Ігри
Alright I know this video is like a year old but I'm still getting comments basically every day saying the same things so here's an FAQ:
Q: Song/Game name at [time]?
A: Check the description
Q: Website shown at 1:15?
A: howlongtobeat.com
Q: Why did you say that TF2 gets updates all the time? Are you an idiot?
A: I started writing the script around the time that the whole #SaveTF2 thing was going on, and right before I started recording Valve tweeted out the thing saying "We hear you." To my own and (some of) the TF2 community's surprise, Valve didn't actually update the game; they just added a couple of hats and called it a day.
Also, no, I don't play TF2. And yes, I'm kind of an idiot.
Q: Why do you dislike grinding so much? Aren't you kind of hypocritical for liking games like Stardew Valley, but not JRPG's?
A: Since uploading this video, I've changed my opinion a bit. Grinding isn't necessarily a bad thing, per se, but it needs to be treated extremely carefully. If the grinding itself is based off of interacting with the core gameplay loop, or is just really enjoyable, then I would consider it a good thing. However, inserting grinding just for the sake of grinding (e.g. adding a really long grinding section in your game because you realized it's only 2 hours long) is pretty much never a good thing. Then again, some people find grinding relaxing, which is totally fine; building your game around that specific audience can also be considered good game design.
Q: Did you seriously end the video with "people play games cuz they're fun"?
A: Kind of, yeah. When I was analyzing games that people have really high hour counts in, I found that while there are some pretty noticeable patterns amongst them, they're actually pretty varied in terms of gameplay. I then came to the realization that the only factor that every single one of the games I was looking at had in common was that certain people found them to be fun. I know that there are some people who have managed to put 5000+ hours into games like Plants vs. Zombies, and the only reason they give is "it's fun." Even if a game has none of the things that I mentioned, as long as people find it fun 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 is gonna find a way to sink hundreds of hours into it.
Q: Why do you hate Genshin Impact so much? I find it really fun!
A: If you find Genshin Impact fun, then that's great! I'm glad that you are able to find enjoyment in something that I couldn't. I personally dislike it due to the fact that every single barrier in the game just seems like it's put there just for the sake of being there, but if you enjoy it, all the power to you.
Q: Why do sound like a dying pig?
A: I was kinda sick when I started recording lines, but I just said "screw it" and continued to record them anyways. At the time of recording, the most amount of views one of my videos had ever gotten was like 500, so I really wasn't expecting anyone to hear the result of my poor decisions.
Q: This video sucks.
A: I know. I genuinely despise this video, despite it bringing so much attention to my channel. Please watch my newer videos; they're much better.
Bruh, what do you mean?! This video is amazing! Honestly, you could've gone in harder on how much a pile of crap Genishin is.
I noticed that the videos with only two words as a title and a thumbnail that's an open-ended question are usually what most people will click on.
Also, please do a video this indie game called Darkwood👽
"tf2 gets constant updates" major update was 6 years ago lmfaoo
I may have picked a bad example. All I knew was that a new major update was announced, and I kinda just assumed that was the norm.
@@pixelbit_ not at all. tf2 has been a dying game to valve for a while and only is giving attention to the community after it protested
@@pixelbit_ the new update isn't even gonna be major. there's no team of people working on the game anymore bc valve simply has other priorities, so the maybe one guy working on the tf2 team rn is now enlisting the tf2 community itself to contribute whatever they wanna see in the game, and that'll be handpicked from the workshop this summer.
you probably just saw the fact that the very content-starved community hyped the blog post up way out of proportion, tho i am at least hopeful that this update will introduce some neat stuff that isn't just the same norm from the past 6 years.
but yea, in theory, should've been a good example. you've got some quality videos
edit: if i'd just watched a bit more of the video lol
tf2 is very much alive solely bc of community-generated content now
@@pixelbit_ i feel like the example was still applicable to the video, as people like me still pour hundreds of hours into the game with little to no interaction from the dev. This can be from the skill ceiling like you said in the video, or even things made by the community via mods or community servers to shake things up
do you want it to be like cs2? i dont want to lose masterpiece like they doing to csgo
If I put my hours from terraria into a real life skill, who knows where id be
Scary accurate
Useless to think of life like that. You will die someday. Enjoy your time here.

i have 1200+ in hollow knight and while ive had tons of fun with rando i probably have an issue
@@twotruckslyricsok, I've never played hollow Knight, but I've seen it played and it seemed very linear, are there that many different ways to play the game that you could put more than 100 hours and not have it be the same thing over and over? Just curious since it doesn't look like it from an outside perspective
i like the fact he talks about geometry dash like its a super small game that no one knows about
what is it?
What is a dash geometry?
yeah what is it?
Is it a math game or something?
Yeah I never heard of that game, is it fun?
this is actually a really good look into how to make a captivating large-scale game, as a hobbyist game designer i'm def saving this if i ever want to work on a bigger project
ok guys shutup about tf2 i didn't realize that the update wasn't considered normal and also added basically nothing
also wow you guys are right. the vocal fry REALLY sucks in this video

Ok but were you lagging behind or did you take a few years to make the video

Holy crap, I thought this channel would at least have 100k subs with this high quality content. This is amazing, keep it up!
Bravo! Just found this video in my recommendations and loved it. You definitely deserve more subscribers for this quality of content.
Thanks for expressing what makes certain games so replayable. For me, creativity is the biggest factor for me to come back to a game.
This deserves so many more views! I also haven’t played like any of the games in this video, but seeing you sink hours into them makes me want to play them!
Can vouch for celeste its toooooo nice
Very well put together video man. Keep it up!
Impeccably paced and written video, wonderful stuff 👍
I currently have 16k hours in geometry dash
while most of those are afk cuz I'm a terrible computer owner, I'm just so addicted to making stuff with the editor.
Your creativity really is the limit with that insane border game engine thing.
Also obviously I'm playing all the stuff other people are making too, albeit a little less.
Only other game that even comes close is minecraft. idk how to even check my hours on it but it's probably in the 1000s
3rd place is pizza tower with like 70 hours so just goes to show how much sandbox mechanics do for me
Your hours are well justified by the insane levels you make and impact you leave on the community
after seeing the levels you make the hours make sense lol
Your video is hitting the algorithm like crazy, I occasionally watch speedrun content and this video appeared both on my front page and beside other videos. Congrats!
Also, I watched the entire video and enjoyed the entire thing, which is somewhat rare these days. Gonna check out the rest of your videos now
300 subs for such a high quality video is nuts! You just earned a new sub friend.
I truly loved this video so much ❤ thank you, esp the end hit hard and I can just agree

Hotline Miami 2 is great at using scoring and leaderboards to incentivize replaying for a better score similar to dmc.
Leaderboards definitely help. Adding a sense of competition is a pretty good motivator to get better, especially if there's a separate leaderboard for people on your friends list.
Yeah except the game is fucking horrible in terms of level design and the first game does replayability better due to the capability of using any mask on any level and having a good level design allowing for the game to be more than just a top down shooter with forced masks/handicaps because most hm2 masks are exactly that
@@lasagna665 hlm1 is good but I think its way too easy and the ai is janky asf(not that the 2nd game doesn't have ai problems, its just on a lesser scale). I understand the mask shit though certain playstyles in hlm2 are way harder, but is possible if your good and rewards you with higher score if you use melee instead of guns.
Oh man, I don't care about scoring at all unless you get rewarded for it
@@gasmasksareuselessinspace7901 hotline miami 1 can be easy once you master it, which is why there are masks that nerf you. Which makes the game a lot more replayable. Also what's considered being "good" in hotline Miami 2 is more just "see how well you can memorize enemy positions and glass placements" more than anything.
I love seeing genshin slander as a genshin player haha, but I love how you acknowledge that a game only has to be fun to you not anyone else. Great vid 🎉
I think that's one of the points that a lot of people missed. Even if a game has bad aspects to it, as long as it's fun then it doesn't really matter.
@@pixelbit_yeah, it's one of the things I tell people when they ask me for recommendations, it doesn't really matter how excellent a game is if it's just not fun for you!
I genuinely don't understand why people are saying Genshin has a lot of grind. Yes there is a lot of tasks you can complete to follow the games progression system rewards but since there is no "hailed endgame where the fun is" if you dont like it you just play through the quest and run around and explore in the overworld until you're either done or that's not fun anymore and then you quit. And maybe you come back when there's new stuff that sounds good and maybe you don't.
The main problem with genshin is its either overwhelming or no content. Speaking as an ar60 player on top of that resin system is shit. If you could grind hours once a day into artifacts It would be a much more fun imo, but no we need to play 30 mins each day no one likes that
@@toad7395they need to either remove energy or make better dungeons to farm stuff. WoW has the best dungeons to farm because you have to play AS a team and they have a well designed map for it. It's not like genshin where you go in and leave dungeon after 30s because it's so fucking easy. We all know that nothing will change.
this is an absolutely excellently made video, well done
Peak video essay . Keep grinding contents g!
A game I like for the grinding is Monster Hunter. It's one of those rare games where the grind is what a number of players find fun. While you do need to grind for the best gear, the grind is you doing the enjoyable parts of the game, hunting monsters that are almost unanimously considered by the community to be well-made and fun to fight.
Which Monster Hunter game are you talking about specifically?
World and Rise, if we want to talk about the grind being enjoyable. We don't talk about getting the Lagiacrus plates in 3 Ultimate.@@itub912

Great video! I'm surprised The Binding of Isaac wasn't mentioned, given it's known for taking a shit ton of hours to fully complete. I've played all of these (Even Genshin Impact) but Isaac remains as my #1
I’m playing through Isaac (repentance) right now and I already have about 300 hours on my first save file and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. It’s probably my favourite game because you can just pick it up and play, you don’t really have to worry about any grinding or resources (except maybe Eden tokens, but you get heaps of those), you can just have fun in every run, while also unlocking new stuff for future runs
Not me having 1700 hours on geometry dash-

this video was done beautifully!
I've got 3,600 hours on Terraria, I don't have a problem YOU have a problem!
Great video! I'm going to say that "We all hate grinding." is a hot take. Video games can provide fun through a couple of different brain chemical avenues. And sometimes as a game designer you should limit the player from overloading certain receptors. Games are best when you get a wave-like formula of stimulation... in my humble experience.
Good content. Subscribed. Thanks for the effort
Such a short but entertaining video u deserve more subs
Blizzard and a few other developers/publishers that have lost their touch need to learn from this video. Great content.
Three words: post game content.
Also Goldeneye is the definition of unlimited replay value.
man, this is so fucking well crafted!
Good luck, awesome video.
I personally really enjoy the grinding aspects of games, if it's skill or just leveling up my character, every day when I get on I know what I'll do/what I need to do and when you finally hit your goal it feels so good. I have over 800 hours in Genshin and I'm still having fun trying to make my team better and with the map being so large I still have not done most of the stuff you can do.
i've been playing since release and i don't have all the novels from inazuma
Honestly? Fair enough, there have been times where I had to grind for stuff. And finally accomplishing it is satisfying and addictive. Feels good.
The fact that you still haven’t got burnt out is admirable
I don't feel a need to stop grinding. It feels just... fun.
Good video bro, your points are really great. Oh, your editing style is also good.
This was a really good video! 👍
How the hell does this guy only have 1.4k subs???? Feel like I found a gem
For me that game is/was Sea of Thieves. I could not get enough of it. There were different periods where I played in completely different ways throughout my journey with the game, such as doing PVE with 3 other people for a few months or doing solo PVP for another few. What a fantastic experience it was.
Now the game has been getting worse and worse, until it reached its worst just recently, and I am left with pretty much nothing to play. No multiplayer experience feels nearly the same for me. God I hope Marathon will be good.
Was looking for this, it relies heavily on the "bad" grinding methods to keep players attracted, by giving ppl various dumb commendations for them to complete, same actions should be done over and over again for 100s if not even 1000s of times, for u to at last unlock a cosmetic which is just a re-colored variation of another cosmetic that can be bought with gold or money.
It's trash, yet addicting, not because that the re-colored variations are good, but because you r hoping to get some good ppl that are grinding towards the same commendations u r grinding towards each time u press that "open crew" button, or joining a dc vc from the main sea of thieves dc.
Game also suffers from 30% of players actively using cheats because it has no anti-cheat, trash storyline which has been milked for over 4 years now, like come on, this whole story could be told in a single year or 2.
Not only that, but it has one of the worst types of bugs ur eyes can see, hitreg, which is basically hitting players 10s of times and non do count.
Also there is no way of advancing ur fighting styles, cause u can sail for hours and don't find anyone worth of fighting, and once u start collecting loot, u get hijacked by a galleon of 4 players each having thousands of hours on game "ngl, I most likely be on that galley, but still my point is made clear", new pvp mode introduced doesn't help at all, since it relies on streaks for u to lvl up, yet it attracts 70% of the cheaters.
And the list goes on and on, not even joking this is less than half of the problems this game suffers, I hope they start actually working on the game development rather than just introducing collabs to their game, the only reason this game is still not dead is because it hosts places for friends to group together lol.
@@baselghanem759Defenition of insanity
As a fellow SoT enjoyer it is a bit frustrating to have to grind so much for something I want. So much so that I've given up on the grindy bits and now just play the game because I enjoy the gameplay...
they really did remove duoble gun n shi 😭😂
Rlly good video glad I decided to watch it
Nice Earthbound/Danganronpa music! Subbed and commented to help the channel. Your content is great!
“Fun” is a big factor in replayability but sometimes it’s not the case. Gd for example is REALLY grindy when you play extremes constantly. The replayability in gd isn’t in the fun but the satisfaction of completing the grind of a level. Playing an extreme for months then getting the satisfaction of beating it is what keeps not only top players but the most of the player base to the game.
That's a fair point. While similar, I think there's a distinction to be made between "fun" and "satisfaction." Although, satisfaction kinda leads towards falling into the "high skill ceiling" category.
I’m practicing windy landscape at the moment but i’m taking breaks whenever I feel bored, so actually I do find the game fun for the most part
Oh and also avernus being one of the hardest levels has barely anyone actually trying to beat it because of how annoying it is to play
kinda true but you can still find fun in the game, and don't forget about the creating side too
Great video! Love the content, but there is something I'd like to add on.
Since we are analyzing gameplay loops that make games enjoyable and infinitely re-playable, I wanted to give my two cents on the state of Genshin, as someone who has been playing it for 2+ years. As you've said, the game does get grindy when you want to strengthen your characters, but I don't believe this to be the crux of its issue.
I want to first express what makes Genshin so great on a gameplay level. As a fellow Genshin theory crafter perfectly put it, Genshin has one of the most elegant combat systems in any game ever. This is not an exaggeration, the combat system's simplistic yet deep nature allows it to have a sort of floor and ceiling in terms of understanding and effectively utilizing it. Every two character interacts uniquely with each other, which is amazing for a character based combat game.
Genshin's actual issue comes from the developers' unwillingness to make use of this cutting edge combat system. Story is great, and limited time events can be fun. But in its center, Genshin is a game about combat. Yet, the developers are acting like they're scared to put emphasis on combat, and god forbid, make something that isn't either too easy or too frustrating. And this isn't just me clinging onto some unrealistic dream. We have had combat focused limited time events that were some of the most fun I've had with Genshin's combat. Yet, the only combat system you have permanent access to is The Abyss, which most usually boils down to a dps check.
And this damages the enjoyment gained from most other aspects of the game. Why are you grinding for your characters? To get them stronger. But for what? There is nothing in the game that challenges your actual skill. Why should you pull for new characters? To have them of course, but afterwards you don't have a good combat areas to test them out and enjoy having and using them.
The newest game made by the developers of Genshin, aside from having a system similar to The Abyss, has an amazing permanent endgame combat system where you can really have fun using your characters. It is a testament to the developers' capability in creating such a system. The issue is that Genshin, with a combat system containing more depth and player engagement, lacks such a system.
TL,DR Genshin has the potential to be an infinitely re-playable and ever expanding gameplay masterpiece, but the developers' attitude against implementing proper gameplay loops to facilitate their amazing combat system makes the game fall flat in terms of actual gameplay. I really hope that the devs will eventually come around to the idea that implementing substantial permanent gameplay loops will increase player rates, and that they don't always have to rely on the "fear of missing out" for their financial growth.
Hope you get more subscribers. This video is great!
Damn that was a great video dude ❤
Rimworld is the comfort game that I always go back to.
I love geometry dash because theres so much that can be done, theres creators that makes levels with completely new effects that we didn't even know that were possible to make, theres players that beat levels that once were considered impossible, players with insane amount of skill that push the boundaries of the game even further. many times i got bored of playing it and stopped, but i always came back... once you get into gd you cant leave it, there will always be something bringing you back for more
summoningsalt type beat. great vid!
why did bro just go over my entire steam library
Since 2015 I’ve spent thousands of hours on Halo MCC. The big things that have kept me coming back are the career rank system, super difficult achievements, custom games, and extensive mod support
Also helps that MCC is a collection of six different games, and the old Halo games are great in general. Nostalgia is also part of it too
I like how for the words "They want to be truly immersed in the game" [11:03] you not only showed the game OneShot, which I expected, but also the scene of the Shepherd who’s literally a dev as a character in the game. Clever.
Overall great and thorough content. Especially from smaller channels.
HOW IS THIS VIDEO SO GOOD WTFFF
This is the best video I have ever seen. Everything you said was 100% correct and factual. You are so smart and have the best gaming takes everyone should watch
This is the best video you have *ever* seen???
When you brought up immersion, it made me think of playing Valheim with 5 of my buddies. What a good time that was ❤️
Great video! Thank you very much!
from what im seeing here, i think you just hate JRPGs
WHO PLAYED COOKIE CLICKER FOR 2000 HOURS !?!?!?!?
I thought about this subject myself, but you perfectly covered it before I could consider making a script.
great Vid man
I think your making quite the sweeping statement to say nobody enjoys levelling in rpgs, I’d say it one of my favourite parts. I’m not alone, look at the success of a grind focussed game like OSRS
i personally love genshin impact, its very fun to me. Especially the exploration, in every corner could be hiding something new and exciting BUT the rewards you get for that is sometimes very underwhelming, only when i stopped paying attention to these rewards and instead focused on all the secrets this huge worlds is laying breadcrumb path to, did i fall in love with tevat. I think you can truly adore a game but still be aware of its flaws, I hope hoyoverse fixes some things but I cant help but feel drawn to it everytime a new area is available.
very nice video. nice topic that is rather hard to explain to people who aren't the big gamer. Or even to other gamers who "how can you keep replaying a single-player game if it's just going to be the same every time". 10/10 my friend
Good statment my man, truly
I have been playing Genshin since launch and I don't feel much grind, would you mind elaborating on that? Because for me the main issue of the game is time-locking everything, but that kinda has the opposite effect
