Just from my research it's $5.99 for Howie's hockey grip tape for a 10 yard roll. For goon tape it is $7.99 for a 20 yard roll. So if I'm doing this right, it's actually a bigger bang for your buck for goon tape. I'm not knocking any company or taking up for any company, just did some research. I could be totally off. I have clammy hands so something is better than nothing at all.
Update, I found out about Howie's Hockey Tape specifically their Pro Grip Tape. Best grips for me so far. It sticks to itself, almost too well. Helpful tip, once done wrapping whatever, fold over the end but don't press it down. Hopefully that'll help. Goon tape isn't bad, hockey tape isn't bad, it's all personal preference. I agree with the sweaty hands needing more. I just have dealt with granulated tape and rubber and this Howie's pro grip hockey tape is best for me.
@@Constitutionalist1791 I talk about the pro grip tape being my favorite in the video.
@@Constitutionalist1791 I know this is 9 months later, but what do you mean by fold over the end but don't press down? Like the end of the tape you fold over on itself creating a tag end? Or? I'm confused by that statement.
How long did you use it? Because ive seen long term reviews that saw hockey tape will fray much quicker and also the adhesive will stick to the gun and make a mess. Its also thicker
Just ordered goon tape and remembered I still had a roll of self fusing silicone tape after ordering. The silicone feels amazing and there is no adhesive on it def give it a try if you are experimenting with tapes.
I remember when using for grip tape on my hockey stick. We used to take a long strip and twist it like a lil rope and wrap like a candy cane gone up or down the stick. Then wrapping the twisted rope with tape. To create grip. Now hockey tape is usually used with leather gloves. So this also maybe different. Not sure if that helps. But in the hockey world, it’s all the difference.
Thanks!
it is hocket tape, literally. They even have the nhl logo on it. My guess is, and this is just a guess, they are buying overruns of tape produced for nhl gift shops or whatever and having the word "goon" branded in the center of the nhl logo. They are likely not able to buy enough since the big box stores (Dicks, Big 5, etc..) buy in large quantities so they have to wait and purchase whatever they can, which is likely why they are always sold out.
Try the 3M stair step tape. Great adhesion and a no slip grip.
Definitely some marketing price raising here but I don’t think Goon tape is being dishonest here. Hockey tape is known to be grippy so adding it to firearms makes sense. Goon tape took a word, Goon, that is used in both the gun world and the hockey world and ran with it. There logo is the old NHL logo. Easy to see their route here. Hockey tape is certainly cheaper but Goon Tape is a cool company to support, I’ll throw them the couple extra bucks.
hey bud. I love america sssooooo much! Can you buy my left over hockey tape for $22.50? It's 5 yards left. throw me a couple extra bucks please!
Keep it up man very clean presentation and you saved me some money
Thanks brother! Glad I could help.
I’ve got rubber Talon Grip and Goon tape on top of it on my G19. Still grippy and the tape made it soft so I can grip harder.
JFC how big are your hands?
Does it get fuzz and lint in the grip or no.?
The only advantage I think is the color selection of goon tape, if ur gonna go the rout of hockey tape. But I think it’s better for wrapping cable and support grip area.
Goon tape is only black lol
@@dennisthefivestarman8177 I have it in FDE and Grey
@@Samslive1where tf you get it in Fde!?
@@rlfs2853 I think the official name of that tape run was desert rat.
I once ordered from them never got any order details besides the receipt , tried getting in contact but they kept on ignoring me so decided to skip them
What tape you use around the weapon light ?
I agree 100%. I purchased Goon Tape and I am extremely disappointed. It makes the grip way too slick.
‘Too’, not ‘to’ …..Nothing cool about shit grammar.
Try gear aid camo form
So i got the mr920 and i like the grip but i appendix carry and when i dont have an undershirt the grip scratches the hell out my stomach. Would the cloth tape help with that without me loosing having a good grip on the gun if i put tape around the grip ?
Start wearing an undershirt tucked in until your skin is used to having the abrasion against it. Eventually your skin will toughen up and be able to carry without the undershirt.
I have zero issues from my shadow system guns against skin. And they are up against my body all day at work.
Hockey tape hasn’t been slick in my experience. It makes it a bit more squishy so it helps me grip the gun harder without as much fatigue. Talon grip wears down and eats away at my palm area on my hand and leaves dead skin on the grip tape. Thanks for the comparison
If that works for you than awesome. Just don’t buy goon tape as it’s a rip. That’s why I made the video mainly.
@@tegridytactical I appreciate you making this video. Thank you
Get THICK bike inner tube, put it over grip, then put on hockey tape. It's the 2nd best grip ever! (first is doing dremel and JB weld steel stick work, then do above)
Does the sticky tape leave residue?
The black with letters look exactly like the stretchy wound tape you get from CVS.
Thanks for taking the time to post this.
I have two kids that play hockey 9 months out of the year. Cases of tape are in and out of the house at about $3 a roll. Howies also sells wide for $5.
I learned that gun cleaning solvent can basically melt the adhesive. Took a while to clean my grip after I got the tape off. Had to use a green scrubbie to get it off my hands after. It didn't improve or worsen my grip on the gun when I wrapped the grip.
Same size and thickness? I had to rewind to see that they are NOT the same size and thickness 🤔
Cool vid bruh, very informative and thorough! Helped me decide big time...✌️
Also, your frame and slide look darker than all the 19x photos. Just curious is this like an older gen? I really want that darker brown 19x but all the photos of them online look so dark and I can’t tell if it’s a different lighting or if it’s a different color.
It’s a Gen 5. Im honestly not sure about the color. Some are made in USA and some in Austria. Maybe there is a slight color variation depending on where it’s made? Im not sure. Just a guess.
@@tegridytactical any word on that grip? I noticed your lanyard loop is gone. Did you shave that down? I’d definitely never use that thing
@@MrKaNuke what do you mean about the grip?
You can remove the loop. There is a little hole on the bottom back of the grip. Just push it out and pull it out of the bottom.
@@tegridytactical oh I didn’t realize the lanyard loop came off without removing it with some more aggressive manner.
It’s a really nice set up. Assuming you EDC it, would love to see a video on your rig.
I got "tactical tape" and used it on my hiking stick, Glock 30, and both of my bayonet knives. Very good grip.
What may extension is that?
Just ordered tennis racket wrap.. I have sweaty hands from time to time I think the rubber grip will make it last longer the the hockey tape but should have that look.. I’ll let you all know how it works
How’d it work out? I was also thinking about using the tennis wrap but was afraid that it might make my grip frame too bulky bc you got to overlap the grips to make it work right.
Russian izolenta tape is my favorite to use for cable management on my rifle, I recommend buying talon grips
My goon tape showed up yesterday. I thought I remembered hockey tape being more sticky. Not happy so far.
I’m so happy I am not the only one
I used the sticky stuff from riteaid for sprains
Just wanted to applaud the South Park reference for your channel name
Haha thank you! Very few people have said anything. I think your the third person to get it. It’s sad really….
the grip tape may roll up, one may want to tape the ends with the cloth tape
Solid video! Thanks for saving me some money lol.
The BRC comment was so spot on that I knew I could trust your opinion.
Same 😂 BRC is trash af
I just ordered some goon tape to see what all the hype is from them. I’m always open to try different things and experience it myself. It’s all trial and error, the way I see it. But if you’re complaining about it being $8 and it being only a couple of bucks more than other products, then I’d say you have bigger problems lol
Nah. I'm glad he shined a light on this and showed that it's nothing special. Just hype and marketing.
So What do you think? Goon tape good?
@@savagenez9584 it’s feels pretty good. It’s sorta slick when your hands are cold but when it’s hot and your hands are sweaty, it really helps you get a grip on it.
How easy is to remove the hockey grip tape
Very easy.
@@tegridytactical
Ok
Thanks
I just got mine in the mail couple days ago, but had to work. So haven't tried it out yet
It feels grippy though and like your hands will stick to it, not let anything slip
I ordered some stuff from Goon Tape and after seeing this video. They advertise like the tape was their idea.
I personally have Element tape on all my CCW firearms. I pulled the talon BS off my Glocks, and just run Element tape.
Like element skateboards?
me too
I like Goon Tape, they could use a new name. The word “Goon” is just a cringey over used word now but I’ve had no issues with it. Just seems like you save a couple bucks using the hockey tape.
I work at a range and one of the RSOs uses skateboard grip tape. He says that it keeps a solid grip if you end up getting blood on your hands (which if you carry could end up happening at some point). Always down to experiment with new things. Thanks for the video man.
Goon is unfathomably cringe
get or try camoform tape if your going to go with a wrap or tape solution
Wish I had seen this video before spending the dough on Goon tape.
I use talon and a lil bit of tape over it
Yeah they call it goon because its a hockey slang for a certain type of player, not cause its geared towards shooters
I use Rowling baseball bat tape. It’s basically goon tape and hockey tape. $4.99 at a local sporting goods store.
I bought Goon Tape purely to support the awesome content and videos they put out! Didn’t even get it to use it, after receiving my order it definitely is very similar to hockey tape. As I said though I got it to support them!
Weird.
@@cannaventureseeds2909 I mean people subscribe and pay for onlyfans and countless other crap. Same same but different, check out the content finance and maneuver puts out with goon tape it is very well done and entertaining!
@@TexsunFU I’m confused by the last part of your statement
@@ericwong3868 Which one? The content being videos/skits? I purchased some goon tape to show support for the types of entertaining videos they make.
@@TexsunFU what’s the content finance and maneuver
Im not a big fan of stippling pistol grips, l'll give this a try.
Just get a hogue grip thank me later
i personally use skateboard grip tape. your hands never slip ever and the adhesion to the gun is unmatched!!
I don't get how everyone states that goon tape provides traction. It's not very tactile, way too smooth for trying to add grip to anything on a gun. I guess some think it looks cool, but that's about it. For gripping, its a waste of money.
Have you tried handling a firearm with hockey tape? It’s amazingly tacky when you’re using it and stale and just feels like normal athletic tape when you’re not using it. It doesn’t collect dirt and stuff which also helps. It’s even tackier when it gets wet. Anyone who says it isn’t good for traction is full of it and probably has never actually used it. Not that its for everyone, but the specific statement that it’s slick is straight bull.
@@eight0586I’ve heard hockey tape will leave residue all over the grip when taken off is that true?
I’m a big fan of the element 26 tape. Feels like a huge improvement over my goon tape
UA-cam Suggested this video to me and had to check it out
Based!!! Spot calling out these companies ripping 2a ppl off. Goon tape and Black Rifle Coffee are ass. Good to see you do have some tegridy 😂 south park love it
This was great marketing for goon tape. Just ordered 2 rolls!
I also gave in to the goon tape hype. Total disappointment.
Because you lost $3 or because of actual physical reasons. Explain further please
The shit you wrap around tattoo guns work good too
The more I hold my shit I prefer no fucking tape and feel like an idiot for buying any now lmaoooo
You should link to the tape you like and put an affiliate link so you can get some extra $$$ from it.
It works well on my blunderbuss and my girl uses it on her dilldoes!
Doesn't it chafe her vagina?
Dunlop Supertac. Amazing. Just try it. You'll agree.
Damn I just bought the bonus pack like 2 days ago. . . 😭 lmfaooo well fuck it I’ll be back with an update if I remember which video this is on.
Thoughts?
I had a feeling Goon tape was gimmicky. Thanks for confirming.
Same thing as surefire. "made in china, assembled in america" then uses the laws to claim "made in america" (I don;t like scammers)
Goon is a hockey movie. Therefore, hockey tape.
Someone gets it lol
I personally don't like goon tape, because the stick stuff will work its way to the outside of the tape and the gripping surface will get tacky and nasty to hold.
They don't hide the fact it's hockey related with the logo.
They also don’t say it’s hockey tape. And if you weren’t into hockey you wouldn’t know any better that the logo is hockey related. They advertise with it wrapped around AK’s, AR’s, pistols and mags. It’s a great advertising move for them! I’m just here to tell gun folk that they are getting ripped off.
No bullshit, thank you.
You bet!
I prefer the guys over a goon we all know it's hockey tape, but I'd rather support the 2A bros over the hockey bros any day, their marketing and photography fuck too
Thank you for saving me a bunch of time and money.
What about baseball bat tape?
Sure why not! Anything is better than paying double for cloth hockey tape. So try it out. The point of the video was just to show that goon tape is a rip off and their are much better and cheaper options.
I just use hockey tape. Good stuff
the amazon 1 is coban
Just get skate board tape for the slide n stuff like that but get talon grip for the rest it’s the best goon tape is 🗑️
I have sweaty hands and it does help with that.
Yes I wouldn’t use it on a pistol I just Did my own stipple job on my Glocks and used the tape on my hand guard for my AR build, it’s overlapping the pressure pad for my light/laser combo
“Goon” is another word for the enforcer position in hockey so it’s likely just a play on words, just my thought anyway.
I’ve been running Tesa 51036 High Temperature Tape for years and works better then the goon tape.
Thank you for making this video….I was actually recommend goon tape but you pretty much confirmed every suspicion I had
Gracias senor
Yea they are making us pay for hype stickers:/
If you have $8k in guns then and extra $2 to wrap your shotty is not a big deal lol.
Good PSA
Shipping is 5 dollars smh no thanks. Not paying 13 bucks for tape and have to Waite to get it. I'll try black med tape
You saved $2 don’t say it’s not good if it’s the same product according to you that you are using. $2 you can’t even buy a cup of coffee. Really
I’m not using cloth hockey tape. I am using pro tape which is not cloth hockey like goon tape. It is a type of hockey tape, but not the same at all as regular cloth. Rewatch the video and pay attention this time.
Bro made a video to trip over a couple bucks…
Meh not dying on the floor over $4. I like the wider Goon tape anyway
Isn’t the word “goon” literally a reference to hockey? What exactly are they hiding? Lol
It’s also a common term in the gun community. They also exclusively use the tape in their advertising for wrapping firearms and magazines. They also don’t say it’s just hockey tape but in more colors. But either way... Buy it if you like. Most people don’t know it’s just hockey tape. They think it’s special or somehow better. And I’m just stating it’s not better and in fact it’s the exact same. And in my opinion (since it’s an opinion review video) there are better options.
@@tegridytactical i consider myself part of the gun community and never heard it used at all. As far as I can find, it has no special meaning when used in a gun community context. In the hockey community, it actually has its own specific meaning.
I never said they weren’t advertising it for guns, but the literal name is still a reference to hockey. Seems like a pretty obvious/clever nod to where they got the idea from.
Edit: bro, you gotta drop the “their misleading angle”. I just looked at their website, their logo and mascot literally has a hockey goalie mask and the emblem outline is same as the NHL logo. How much more on the nose with the hockey references do they need to be? They even sell hockey pucks with their logo on it…. Bro 😂
@@protoman1214 just because you’ve never heard it doesn’t mean it isn’t used in the gun community haha. There is even a company called “Goon in gear”.
Man I don’t care what you think. Buy it if you want or don’t. I don’t care. Some people appreciate the video because they didn’t know it was just hockey tape and some don’t appreciate the video. You don’t like it or agree and that’s fine.
@@tegridytactical I didn’t say it isn’t used. Its meaning in the gun community is literally just the generic meaning.
If you wanna inform the public, it takes two seconds to do a little research. The price per yard or inch is comparable to hockey tape. The company is very upfront about the inspiration of the product and you act like you’re sherlock holmes and you busted some nefarious conspiracy 🤡
Goin Tape is a 2nd Amendment supporter , 20 yards a roll which is double of the hockey tape . do some research first . Goin tape is actually next best after Talon Grips .
Goon is a hockey term.
It’s also a night vision term. I also don’t see them wrapping hockey sticks in any of their advertising on their web site or social media.
Howie’s Pro all day …
Over the last few weeks I have been testing every grip that is out there. Goon tape is the best. Those that are saying it is the same as hockey tape are doing that based on their eyes alone and haven't actually field tested it. I have purchased Howie's hockey tape, howie's pro hockey tape, and howie's stretch hockey tape. Goon tape is closest to the Howie's original hockey tape but a simple dish soap test on the grips reveal that Goon tape provides much better traction. I'm not sure if it's the perfect solution, but it is defenitely superior to hockey tape. And so far after 2 weeks of EDC, it has not tried to peel off at all yet.
Well duh lol I mean goon tape has the NHL logo on the packaging LOL
Howies tape gets sticky and I hate it....
Coca cola - Pepsi . Same shit.
Some folks in the comments are mad about exposing the grift..lol.. Thats hilarious.
$8 vs what $5? Not that big of a deal
The same tape from howies is $4.79. Goon Tape is $7.99. That’s about a 80% price increase for the same tape. So yeah it’s only a few dollars. But comparatively, that’s an insane price increase. Also, everything is very expensive right now so saving even a few dollars on something that is the exact same product means a great deal to hard working people.
@Tony Stark This is a genuinely stupid comment.
@Tony Stark Let me break down why your comment is stupid. A) you’re saying it’s dumb for people to save money on a product B) Because someone wants to save 80% on tape, they shouldn’t be buying other items they want for their firearms according to you C) Your opinion on what other people do with their money is ridiculous. You sound like a commie D) Have you never bought an item over another item because it was cheaper for the same result? E) you’re an idiot.
Right lol just skip the vending machine at work one night and boom $3 didn’t even matter
i like goon tape on my rifles i have it on my glock right now but im gonna switch to something more abrasive
Yeah it’s just over priced hockey tape so may as well get Howies cloth tape if you go that route, or something else from their product line. Amazon has a bunch of options. The point of the video was just to show that people are over paying for cloth hockey tape and to buy from somewhere else or something else in general.
