Taylor, I'm REALLY glad I stumbled across this video! I've recently ordered a Hiker EOR, but hadn't found any convincing confirmation of its capability on the types of terrain I frequent. You literally covered the EXACT trails I wanted to be sure the EOR can manage: Goler Wash, Lippincott Road, Saline Valley washboard (the springs are my most-frequent camping destination), and Dedeckera Canyon. You chose an awesome route, and it allayed all my concerns. Thank you! Although I'm still uncertain how well the EOR will endure washboard with the leaf-spring (not air-bag) suspension....
Great video. Glad to see that you also showed us both the good and bad. The Hiker trailer seems to be very ruggedly built. Looks like a fun trip for sure, one that we will have to make soon.
Todd Hoffmaster thank you! Yeah. It held up incredibly well. Hiker just said, “that’s what we made it for.” It doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as some of the $30k plus tear drops but we love it.
Nice effort pulling the trailer up Mengel Pass! I hauled a trailer going the opposite direction 3 days ago, so have first hand experience of how tricky it is.
Wayne Fairbrother It was a good time for sure. I was wondering how it would be pulling a trailer up that one ledge on Goler Wash. Guess you have first hand knowledge of that too.
We did 4 days there. First in our Prius on paved roads. Second with rented Farabee’s Jeep’s. It was so fun but still didn’t get to do it all. Hope to be back there again
Great video. I do not know if you still own your Hiker..... But I am ordering one, and want to build my own charging system with a 2K inverter. I believe I saw a schematic on the lid of your battery box. If you still have that drawing or you can let me know the details it would help immensely. Hiker does not want to customize to my specs. Your"s is perfect for me. Your video is great and I am amazed at your drive down the pass with a trailer. Thank you for showing us how off-roading is done.
Taylor, awesome video! We are fellow Utahns and just bought an EOR a few weeks ago that we are loving, already done some great road trips in it! Question, I watched your trailer walk around video with Matt Dewitt and I loved the idea of the hook and straps that you use to hold your cabinet doors up in the main cabin. Can you give me a heads up where you got those? If you guys ever want to do a trip we’d be game! Thanks!
Thank you. It was definitely a fun trip. Congratulations on your new EOR. They are super capable and we are still really pleased with it. The straps that we use for the cabinets are the Munchkin Xtraguard Dual Action Multi Use Latches. If you google them they should pop right up. Yeah, I'd love to do a trip with another Hiker owner. I've never done one. Are you on the FB group?
Taylor Noelle thanks! Although when I looked those up they looked like the ones that you used on your drawers in the galley, I was meaning the ones for the small cabinets inside of the trailer that would be above your head when sleeping. I’m not on FB but I’m pretty sure my wife is in the group!
@@jesseriley7760 Oh ok. I found this awesome RV website that has a ton of different latch and netting options. I found the latches and J hooks you are talking about, Linked below. Just be very careful when you screw into the ceiling. It's only 1/2 thick wood before the exterior aluminum shell. I started them when with an electric screw driver (on slow speed) and then hand tightened the rest using a regular philips. www.organizedobie.com/J-Hooks www.organizedobie.com/Ultimate%20Pocket%20Door%20Holder%20Loop-A
Taylor, what an awesome video ! I’m considering the extreme off-road hiker as well to pull behind my 4Runner. I have height constraints in my garage. Do you know the height of your trailer to the top of the awning? Thank you so much.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. A friend of mine actually posted a walk around of the trailer about a month ago. We are super happy with the trailers performance and our upgrades. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/yGDOkxBwYuc/v-deo.html
Yes. Totally. There is one rock garden near the bottom of the pass that you would need to be careful on but I would feel comfortable taking a stock 4Runner on it no problem. Just air down.
I did Megal, Steel, and Lippincott 2 months ago without a trailer. I must have one now but I am deciding on which one. Curious, does the Hiker ever scrape the rear at hard break over angles?
i have been extremely happy with the Hiker. I purchased it with airbags so I can adjust the height depending on weight and conditions. Aside from when I stupidly dropped of a nearly 3 foot boulder at 9:23, I've never scraped the rear or tongue at hard break-over angles. Frame sits at 24.5 inches above the ground. Axle at 16.5 (33" tires). I like the simplicity of the solid axle over the trailing A-arm. Easier to fix on the go and to find parts/replacement if I'm in remote areas.
Great story and death Valley. The only nitpick I would have is the modulation on the the music versus your voice. I kept having to turn my volume up and down.
It is a Gamaviti Rack. He does a lot of Land Cruiser racks and I found him on IH8MUD and google. It's steel and it provides a wider and better platform than the major competitor of steel racks IMO. Thanks for watching.
M3 Xplorer The trailer did great. I was worried some about the alignment of the box and the beating the suspension took both on trail and on the washboard roads, but it’s been great. I’ve taken in on a couple more trips since then and the Hiker is no worse for wear:). I really love the simplicity of the solid axle air-bag suspension.
Fan Boy absolutely! It’s mostly just exposed and narrow with a couple of small rock gardens but a stock 4Runner in ATs could totally do it safely and without any vehicle damage. Just be sure to air down.
Love them! I got RCI aluminum skids to save some weight and avoid rust. I have beat on them a bit and they are holding up great. The RCI sliders I also really like. I have come down on them several times and they have taken the impact and protected the 4Runner. I didn't get the top plate as even with a 3 year old kiddo, I don't think its necessary; that also saves weight. I know that CBI is making protection as well but I haven't heard great things about their customer service and weight times. Rago also has some interesting things going on.
👍👍👍👍👍😀, Seemed hard to find a Hiker EOR video in action but you knocked it out of the ball park !!
That’s a great hikertrailer
Memories for a lifetime.
Girl that was some great driving..........
Good video. I think you did a good job of illustrating the obstacles and how the truck and trailer performed.
Jeff Pearson thank you. It was a great trip and a real test of equipment.
Well done people, the drive, the video, and the commentary!!!
Great video!! Ive done that route a few times and its so much fun. You really captured the good parts!
Thank you!!
Outstanding. I have been seriously thinking about a Hiker Trailer.
nice run, we love Death Valley and all those stops.
Great video and looked like so much fun! Thank you for sharing your vacation!

Loved your video! Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait to see more vids on the Hiker Trailer!!!!

How much was your version? Is it the base extreme or?
Great vid. Sweet driving! Loved the music.
That was scary to watch, but exciting! Great video. Stay safe.
Nicely done! Thank you for sharing….
Badass overlanding!
Thx, I finely watched. Liked it and have ben contemplating Hiker. And the music not wrong butt to Emo.
That was quite the feat!!

@@KadoUncharted Yep, the Goler Wash ledge was tricky. Required front lockers to get up.
very impressive !
Awesome video!
very very nice driving
Just did the Mengal Pass from Ballarat to Striped Butte to Ibex Springs in March!
You guys are CRAZY, but in a good way

Looks like a great adventure. Do you think a stock height 4Runner with ko2 tires could make it through Lippincott pass?
Yes. Totally. There is one rock garden near the bottom of the pass that you would need to be careful on but I would feel comfortable taking a stock 4Runner on it no problem. Just air down.
Great video, but not happy about me turning the volume up or down to hear your narration of this video against the music!
Are you allowed to camp where you want ? I thought you could only stay at campgrounds.

Great content . Have you ever pulled that hiker with that Jeep Wrangler ? If so how she do ?
Great story and death Valley. The only nitpick I would have is the modulation on the the music versus your voice. I kept having to turn my volume up and down.

What kind of roof rack do you have on you 4Runner? Is it a Rhino Rack?

How do you like the RCI sliders? Which RCI skip plates do you have? I’m shopping for my 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road.

Looks like Patagonian gravel highways---watch your oilpans and badly eroded streambeds. yikes!
