Sargoth will always be one of the greatest masks of all time. I have to believe when it came out every other mask company thought "Why didn't I think of that." You really can't appreciate a Sargoth until you've seen one in person. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be a kid in the 70's / 80's and walk into a costume shop and see that on the wall. I really think the late 70's is one of the most creative fertile periods in DP history. They had practically no licenses, I think maybe only Creepy/Eerie, so they had to came up with entire catalogs of their own characters and some of the best masks the company ever produced were born of these circumstances.
'Great to see those three lined up together ... and such exemplary copies. The Malone/Short design team created amazing characters for Don Post Studios, second only to the Newman/Langdon collaborations of the 1960s. 'Always enjoy your CGMR vids. Keep rolling 'em out! ~ DR
Great, video, love seeing The Count getting some love. I think that's a great mask. A blatant bootleg Lugosi, but a really nice addition to the 1100 line. Great hair, love the neck and bib and maybe the likeness is not gonna pass with hardcore monster fans, but with a costume shop cape and rented tux it'll read "Dracula" from across the room at any '80's Halloween party. I would love to have heard the conversations leading up to the decision to make this mask. DP had lost the Lugosi likeness over a decade prior, Lugosi Jr was entering into the tail end of decade+ war with Universal for using Lugosi's likeness. A war in which he would ultimately prevail in 1979. And THIS is the moment that DP thinks "Hey, fuck it, let's do a knock-off Lugosi mask." The sculpt is beautiful, skating about as close to a Lugosi likeness as you can get without getting sued. I think this went out of production so quickly because they actually were threatened by Bela Jr, if I'm not mistaken.
I would spend hours sitting in that room staring at the collection. So cool man.
