As someone who generally doesn't like 'evil' factions in fiction, I love the glow up they've done with Noxus. Between the Kat comics, the Darius LoR cinematic and the lore around Swain's relaunch, they have really transformed Noxus into a much more complex and interesting society. The old 'Might is right' transformed to valuing 'might in all its forms': martial, intellectual, artistic, etc, to empower the self and the Empire. It's to the point where, if I have the option, I am 100% going to roll Noxus in the Mmo. Swain, Darius, and Kat have really given an otherwise monstrous nation a soul.

yes, I was really surprised at how genuine the character felt. she isn't some edgy knife monster, she really believes in the empires ideology and has a good reason to. she is capable of empathy, and is even kind of goofy sometimes.
I think the letter was from Soreana, Katarina and Talon's mother. It would make sense since her and Cassiopeia left Noxus, they work with the Black Rose and Cassio got cursed in Shurima. So it wouldn't be a stretch to think they are in hiding there.
It has to be, since in lore they have a family residence in Urzeris, a Noxian-controlled coastal city.' I think it's sort of sweet how Talon really is a son of the family... albeit a rather nasty, twisted family.
Damn, imo, these few comic panels made Swain look more like an actual human, despite his more slender and pale appearance. Still wonder if Talon actually had a heart to consider Katarina his sister, or it was all just a play of his to keep her at bay while Marcus is away Hope we will get more wholesome and interesting lore like that

When Katarina kills Jaredan, she does not throw any dagger, there was no blade of hers there, that is, she executed a perfectly canonical Shunpo, directly against the victim, only driven by her murderous intention, until the posture of wielding the blade while stabbing him. her from the back is from a melee attack and the sound effect belongs to Shunpo, just like canonically Shunpo is in the game! Just as Drann warned, two months later she has trained enough!
This was a splendid ending to the comic. Katarina is Swain’s sword of Damocles, and based on the characterization we’ve seen she is an excellent choice. She is loyal to Noxus and having her as the Grand General’s Assassin shows a great deal about Swain’s character. This is why I love Noxus stories, they are not evil enemies, they are very complex characters
I think thars what makes this so good. Demacya isnt this goody two shoes "good guy" faction but has its own share of shit. While modern Noxus is but a more disciplined alternative where they acknowledge that everyone has a talent. Everyone can develop the skill. And everyone can use it for the benefit of the nation. Wich is in no ways evil. Two ways not good nor bad. Booth with pros and cons.

How he's actually a very selfless caring man who wants to save lives, and seems to be most likely falsely accused by some people and blamed for Darkwill's actions? How maybe even characters like Rell and Alistar might be revealed to not be harmed directly by any of Swain's orders, but rather their pain might have been caused by the noxians stuck in their old ways? THIS IS SO EXCITING. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MORE SWAIN/NOXUS LORE FOR SO LONG, and I am so excited to hear that Swain as a character has so many interesting layers to him, that he's fighting the demon within him, and even despite of some of his actions being cold and brutal he ultimately deeply cares for the people under his rule. He still signed off on a second Ionian Invasion, and Noxus tries to forcibly expand in all directions, so he's no saint. He is a true believer, but frankly those can be more dangerous.
He is not evil nor good, he does everything on his power to serve Noxus whether it be saving lives of strong soldiers or kill innocent people for expansion, but I do agree he is selfless he could easily take over Noxus ( Technically not easily there is Leblanc and Vlad but you get the idea ) but he chose to split it as he sees that this is the best way for Noxus moving forward
This comic was amazing. It set up so many things, some very obvious and other much more subtle. Kat's daggers being a result of a bonding by hemomancy shows that magic in reality is much more varied than we thought, and it is less that her friend enchanted them and more that she simply allowed her to use her own "magic" in a way that she couldn't before. And Kat's little teen moment thinking of Garen was SO CUTE, I hope rito finds some way to show Garen having one of those, because I have no doubt he is the "sharing diaries" type, he just wouldn't admit it.
I admire Swain for his loyalty and sacrifice to Noxus and especially how he got handicap by LB along the way. We all need leader like Swain but with the tendency to corporate with other nations beside his own.

In a very long roundabout way, based on the ending of the Mageseeker, Demacia does kind of have a chance for real positive change because of J3's death (among other things). Although it may not come out as a singular nation by the end of it.
I'd like to think she took that moment she didn't wanted to figure everything out because garen was naive enough to trust her almost blindly, as he fell for every single of her tricks on her first try. Trust is probably something she hasn't felt for many years.

Just finished Mageseeker, and for anyone wondering: the only thing referencing Kat's story is a lore note from Marcus ordering Jaredan to make sure she doesn't leave Demacia alive. The note has a rose for a seal, so more Leblanc evidence.
I love Swain so fucking much both as an in-game character to play, as well as his Character in the lore and world of Runeterra.. He's such a unique and interesting character that I cannot even put it into words x.x
The scene with Swain gives the same vibes as when Batman told Superman about his contingency plan against himself "I do have a plan, its called the Justice League." Amazing work sir Necrit, I can't say I'm much of a reader anymore but your videos really help me appreciate the lore behind these games.
Oh, by the way, I might be rading WAY too deep into this but did you notice how Katarina's father is dressed? It resembles a lot what Swain is wearing, and I know Noxus has a particular aesthetic, but down to the EXACT STYLE. I feel like there is some sort of mirroring going on between Swain and Marcus in relation to Katarina. The way Swain compliments her for saving lives, "you have served your empire proudly", while Marcus has never once complimented her or been proud of her. It feels like it tries to portray Swain as maybe even a new fatherly figure to Katarina, and it would actually make a lot of sense since the belief system Swain believes in, and tries to establish as the norm in his vision for Noxus is that family is your nation. It doesn't matter who you are related to by blood, your own father from blood and flesh could always become a traitor, do harm to your actual family, that is just simply the people of Noxus. I feel like it serves as a methaphor of Katarina rejecting her blood family in favour of serving her nation, and Swain in turn behaves more like a supportive "father" to her as her leader than her own father ever did.

Swain is by far one of my favorite characters in league, and for sure my favorite noxian. He's just so fucking cool. aligning Katarina with him makes me thing slightly better of her. Her lore had never been too interesting before, at least in my opinion. Plus I hate her in game. But making her swains right hand, his failsafe, was a pretty good move. I hope they turn talon into an actual character too. Katarina might have gotten some good lore, but she's still being weighed down by the other characters related to her. Talon and Cass are pretty much just dog water lore champs. They aren't very interesting in or out of game.
When i read the comic, i thought Swains arrival was the most epic thing. He looked so cool as he appeared, saying "No... Your empire needs you." Swain was already cool, but this just made him so much cooler.
Every time I start to forget why I love Swain, something comes out that makes me fall for this man all over again, this man is just so cool and awesome, true leader, I love Noxus and Swain.
Its already proven that le blanc is not the guile by a rioter itself and with this comic is very possible that the guile is Katarina it has a lot hints! And talon was probably sent to his step mom and cassiopeia not to leblanc
Yeah, the two things we knew about the Faceless was that they were a leader of an assassins' guild and a had a feminine physique. Especially considering that the entire point of the Trifarian Council is to be a check on Swain's power.
What an amazing comic series! Crossing fingers for so many champs/followers from this appear in legends of runeterra! Would love to see how they implement talon, sylas, and morgana in! The immortal bastion is also holds attakhan the demon and so many others, so maybe we'll get a more demonic story in the future!
Katarina's outfit at the end of the comic isn't a Freljord skin, rather a new design to reflect her position as the head of House Du Couteau which she will receive for her ASU. Likewise, I believe Talon will in fact receive Marcus' outfit for his ASU design and he will undergo a similar ritual to grant him invisibility magic.
The blood magic ritual we see here doesn't even see that dark or evil. Katarina voluntarily gave up some blood, did some meditating and...poof...magic.

This comic made me think about 3 things: 1- Katarina's father got black eyes after the magic disappeared from the eyes of Swain's demon. In my mind, since the eyes are the door to the soul, the fact of them being black symbolizes that Le Blanc took the soul from him, and that Swain's demon sees only people's souls. 2 - Probably the way to kill Swain and his demon would be Lux, since she saw her and Swain's Lux power (besides we know Lux chased away the nocturne that's a demon too. 3 - That Riot really needs to continue the stories they start, it would be awesome to have multiple Runeterra comic book series at different stages of the story.

He still signed off on a second Ionian Invasion, and Noxus tries to forcibly expand in all directions, so he's no saint. He is a true believer, but frankly those can be more dangerous.
He is not evil nor good, he does everything on his power to serve Noxus whether it be saving lives of strong soldiers or kill innocent people for expansion, but I do agree he is selfless he could easily take over Noxus ( Technically not easily there is Leblanc and Vlad but you get the idea ) but he chose to split it as he sees that this is the best way for Noxus moving forward
Winter Katarina looks amazing, makes me want to play as her in league
This comic was amazing. It set up so many things, some very obvious and other much more subtle.
Kat's daggers being a result of a bonding by hemomancy shows that magic in reality is much more varied than we thought, and it is less that her friend enchanted them and more that she simply allowed her to use her own "magic" in a way that she couldn't before.
And Kat's little teen moment thinking of Garen was SO CUTE, I hope rito finds some way to show Garen having one of those, because I have no doubt he is the "sharing diaries" type, he just wouldn't admit it.
I admire Swain for his loyalty and sacrifice to Noxus and especially how he got handicap by LB along the way. We all need leader like Swain but with the tendency to corporate with other nations beside his own.

In a very long roundabout way, based on the ending of the Mageseeker, Demacia does kind of have a chance for real positive change because of J3's death (among other things). Although it may not come out as a singular nation by the end of it.

I'd like to think she took that moment she didn't wanted to figure everything out because garen was naive enough to trust her almost blindly, as he fell for every single of her tricks on her first try. Trust is probably something she hasn't felt for many years.

Yes, and I think that's why he looks so similar to Mordekaiser in that skin (in the color palette and armor). He's accomplishing the same role Mordekaiser would.

Just finished Mageseeker, and for anyone wondering: the only thing referencing Kat's story is a lore note from Marcus ordering Jaredan to make sure she doesn't leave Demacia alive. The note has a rose for a seal, so more Leblanc evidence.
I love Swain so fucking much both as an in-game character to play, as well as his Character in the lore and world of Runeterra.. He's such a unique and interesting character that I cannot even put it into words x.x
Katarina's "teen" moment was the cherry on top, SO DAMN CUTE, I want a moment where garen thinks of kata instead

Oh, by the way, I might be rading WAY too deep into this but did you notice how Katarina's father is dressed? It resembles a lot what Swain is wearing, and I know Noxus has a particular aesthetic, but down to the EXACT STYLE. I feel like there is some sort of mirroring going on between Swain and Marcus in relation to Katarina. The way Swain compliments her for saving lives, "you have served your empire proudly", while Marcus has never once complimented her or been proud of her. It feels like it tries to portray Swain as maybe even a new fatherly figure to Katarina, and it would actually make a lot of sense since the belief system Swain believes in, and tries to establish as the norm in his vision for Noxus is that family is your nation. It doesn't matter who you are related to by blood, your own father from blood and flesh could always become a traitor, do harm to your actual family, that is just simply the people of Noxus. I feel like it serves as a methaphor of Katarina rejecting her blood family in favour of serving her nation, and Swain in turn behaves more like a supportive "father" to her as her leader than her own father ever did.

It would also mean Swain, if he knew, took the saying "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" a little to seriously.

Swain is by far one of my favorite characters in league, and for sure my favorite noxian. He's just so fucking cool. aligning Katarina with him makes me thing slightly better of her. Her lore had never been too interesting before, at least in my opinion. Plus I hate her in game. But making her swains right hand, his failsafe, was a pretty good move. I hope they turn talon into an actual character too. Katarina might have gotten some good lore, but she's still being weighed down by the other characters related to her. Talon and Cass are pretty much just dog water lore champs. They aren't very interesting in or out of game.
It would be so good if we get a talon comic in Shurima when AC: Mirage is released.

Yeah, the two things we knew about the Faceless was that they were a leader of an assassins' guild and a had a feminine physique. Especially considering that the entire point of the Trifarian Council is to be a check on Swain's power.

Katarina's outfit at the end of the comic isn't a Freljord skin, rather a new design to reflect her position as the head of House Du Couteau which she will receive for her ASU.
Likewise, I believe Talon will in fact receive Marcus' outfit for his ASU design and he will undergo a similar ritual to grant him invisibility magic.

you know what would be interesting? if jarvan the third was already replaced by one of leblancs minions by the time katarina got to him, and thats why swain sent her on that mission to assassinate him. he actually sent her to assassinate one of leblancs duplicates/agents and correct whats going on in demacia to keep it out of leblancs hands because he himself has plans for the country.

Katarina isnt a mage now. She just has an enchanted bond to her blades.
This comic made me think about 3 things: 1- Katarina's father got black eyes after the magic disappeared from the eyes of Swain's demon. In my mind, since the eyes are the door to the soul, the fact of them being black symbolizes that Le Blanc took the soul from him, and that Swain's demon sees only people's souls. 2 - Probably the way to kill Swain and his demon would be Lux, since she saw her and Swain's Lux power (besides we know Lux chased away the nocturne that's a demon too. 3 - That Riot really needs to continue the stories they start, it would be awesome to have multiple Runeterra comic book series at different stages of the story.
Riot confirmed multiple times that the faceless one is NOT Leblanc. They basically said Swain would have to be an idiot to let leblanc be the faceless one.
Considering Katarina draws her power from her encounter with Garen we need a hidden buff that gives her 1ap if garen is ingame regardless of team. Bring back old riot fluff like that
