I think it’s pretty clear that Sean Peyton can only run a very particular offense and couldn’t adapt to what Russ does well. He’s never been a perfect QB but he’s really good at what he does well.
Honestly Russell and Sean just having different strengths, weaknesses, and personalities may have been why Sean just realized he would never have a contender with Wilson. Also, even not accounting for differences in the style of offense each wants to run, Sean seems like a guy who really holds guys accountable, and sometimes expects them to yell back at him to make them both better (something Nix seems to do perfectly). Russ seems like a guy who would just not really take Sean's coaching to personally (but would never dish anything back at Payton), and as a result neither would really grow from it. Tomlin is calm and collected like the current Russ is (even in scenarios where you see 90% of coaches yelling on the sidelines, Tomlin rarely losses his composure for example), and I think that makes those two such a perfect fit for each other, but Nix and Payton as well are such a perfect fit, and it has definitely made both teams stronger.
it’s funny how he’s SO supportive of bo nix tho when he’s literally been horrible for 80% of every game lmao. only thing he’s been able to do well is run
@jxcob77 Nix should be playing tied end, he has no business in the QB position, he definitely belong in the pro circuit but not as quarterback, looking more of him it seems his father force feed him in the position but the guy doesn't have the neutral accuracy to lobe the ball and is pretty obvious
The difference between Russ in Denver and in Pittsburgh is that in Denver he had 1 coach that was terrible and another who wanted him to fail. In Pittsburgh he's got a coach that is not only a really good coach, but is using Russ in ways that Russ can succeed.
I’m not sure it’s fair to say Payton wanted Russ to fail. I think he ideally would have Russ running his system. The problem is, as you mentioned, that’s not the stuff Russ has never been good at.
You can’t keep using the “he has a coach that wanted him to fail” excuse. No coach wants their QB to fail. For every good thing that Russ did last year, he made another mistake to lose a game and missed too many wide open receivers to count. Those mistakes are entirely on the QB, not the coach. It looks to me like Russ finally has his head on his shoulders. Sitting the first 6 weeks was probably the best thing for him.
@@CyraXFactormaybe he didn’t want him to fail, but he certainly didn’t want to play to his strengths. And blamed him for every team failure he could. He scapegoated him to buy himself more time, rookie qb essentially buying him 3 more years
The difference is that RUSS is finally (hopefully) willing to accept that Pete Carroll was right all along about the system Russ thrived in. Denver treated him the way they did because they had to; if they hadn’t given him the offense to run, he never would’ve gone to Denver in the first place and he would’ve failed with some other team who was willing to let him pass on every down and ignore the running game.
Steelers struck gold. Not only do they have Russ who seems to be hitting a 2nd stride in his career, they also have Fields who showed he's more than capable of winning games if something happens to Russ. AND they got them both for as cheap as possible. Again, we've only seen Russ play 2 games and anything can happen, but happy both of these QBs seem to have found a good home in Pittsburgh.
hope Steelers win the next three then potentially split the rest of the season looking something like 13-4 and a playoff berth would be a feather in the cap.
@@viralbull8085 He's not actually washed, he's the same QB minus the mobility. Russ was always a systematic QB, run the ball, short passes to the flat, run the ball again and once in a while go for play action deep bombs. Having a great defense is needed so you don't have to change your approach on offense. The Steelers are basically running the Seahawks offense from the Pete Carroll days. What whet wrong in Denver was Russ wanted to be a Drew Brees when that not who he was.
@@Sayquidnidlymeh he’s played in two games against the giants and jets….. not competition imo. Also don’t forget he had like a 6or 7 winning streak with the broncos and still sucked
Russell Wilson is back as long as Mike Tomlin uses him the correct way. Russell Wilson is a play action pass run first quarterback, and he always will be. a team that is defensive, heavy and relies on the run with sprinkles of deep passes is exactly what he needs to be successful. Sincerely A Seahawks fan
Tomlin is really great at managing people. He's a horse, but goddamn the man gets results. Fortunately or not, there's no way they'll fire this guy ever.
It's literally just team culture. When you've been around a long time, and everyone knows that the D goes and makes big plays, yeah people really do go do that.
As a Steelers fan, Tomlin's schemes and tactics are pretty whack. Definitely no Andy Reid for offense nor a bill Belichick on defense.... but Tomlin is great at seeing talent and managing people. Good enough to not need to be good at scheme.
Sean Payton was only interested in coaching a passing-dominated offense. I think he knew what Carroll knew in Seattle and Tomlin knows in Pittsburgh (but Russ never realized): that’s not where Russ thrives. Payton was just fine with Russ falling, and then drafting a QB that was exactly the kind Peyton wanted to coach.
Russ has a coach who believes in him and in a system that doesn’t rely on Russ carrying the entire offense and most importantly-a God Damn O Line that can actually block!! Imagine that, a Super Bowl winning QB allowed to cook again with time in the kitchen. Russ is not a short order cook, he is a five course meal that will wow you if you have the patience and sobriety by the end
I definitely disagree with you here. Russ is at his best when the defense is scared of the running game. The more of the offense that’s devoted to us passing, the easier it is for teams to stop him- just put big guys up in his face so he can’t see down the field, and cover the edges tightly. he failed in Denver because the team believed in him TOO much.
As a seahawks fan, let me clarify the last few years of Russell's tenure. Carroll stuck to his guns on the run game and defense. Unfortunately, the LOB were old, expensive and broken at this point. The oline was atrocious (like now) and had no run protection. Most of the series, the plays were run in the middle, no yardage, then it'd be 3rd and long. Where Wilson would have 1.5 seconds to throw. Led to him scrambling for his life and kicked off the 'Let Russ Cook' movement. Carroll and Wilson are now gone and Geno is always pressured or clobbered and throw picks. This is really on Schneider, who has failed for 10 years to get a proper oline. When I was watching the Steelers, it reminded me of the Seahawks of old.
George Payton and Hackett messed Russ and the Broncos up bad. While people are mad about Sean Payton, he turned Russ around but their styles didn't work. So now, its a win-win for both other than Broncos eating cap
He cannot turn a superbowl champion and twice SuperBowl participant around. People either have a winning gene and discipline or they don't. I hate the narrative that it was SP doing when everyone and their mama knew he did not want him.
Facts. I've been saying this since Russ was the scapegoat for Denver. People talk about him like he's a top 15 coach of all time or something. Dude had 3 consecutive losing seasons in a row with Brees in his prime from 2014 to 2016 but somehow he's the savior for Broncos? He's on pace to have another 8-9 season this year with the Broncos schedule. Wheras, Russ will probably finish with the Steelers at 11-6 at minimum the way they playing.
As a Seattle fan, I really do want to see him have a couple more good years. He provided us with years of some of the most entertaining football imaginable as well as helping deliver a championship. Let's weld!
I'm so happy to see him doing well again. His stint with the Broncos got me over the bitter ex-girlfriend vibes I had as a Seahawks fan, but him flipping the script and killing it in Pittsburgh is awesome.
In the 2nd half of last season....Wilson won 5 of 6 games....and they thew him away. In 2000 the Balt Ravens won 7 straight games including the SB ... and HC Billick thew QB Trent Dilfer into the trash can......Billick never came close to the SB again Tom Brady was in the draft that year and Billick passed him by.
@@cousinpatsey2471Longest streak of no playoff wins in Steelers history. We’ll see. If he fails to win one again this year he has to be on the hot seat. No team would stick by a coach who doesn’t win even one playoff game in 8 years.
It’s interesting how Fields this year kinda mirrors Russ from last year. From the outside, his numbers look good, but on tape he’s really indecisive, takes bad sacks, and the offense was underperforming
I don’t think Denver failed him, I think it’s like Jared Goff with the Rams. It just wasn’t a good fit so moving on was the right move and it has benefited both sides.
@@kevinhenry4047Goff made it to the SB with the rams lmao also Russ has played two games against two garbage teams. Let’s see if he can do good against the commies and the ravens
Russell Wilson was never really the problem! The Broncos would've made the playoffs last year if they didn't have the worst defense in NFL history to start the season! And the first year was purely a byproduct of having the worst coach in the NFL! So if you give any QB the worst coach in the NFL or the worst defense in NFL history, they aren't gonna win! They have no chance! Denver didn't have the best weapons offensively, but if the defense wasn't the worst in history for 6 games, Russ takes a limited offensive team to the playoffs easily with 10-11 wins! So the media narratives about Russ never were true! He is a hall of fame QB put into an historically bad situation for about 22 games in Denver!
Mike Tomlin is such a great coach. No matter what has been going on in and around the locker room he has always had the Steelers competitive. If they let his contract “expire” I would absolutely love him in Carolina.
Russ was never washed. That’s just the media for you. Kirk Cousins also can’t win big games And Trevor Lawrence is the greatest quarterback to ever walk the earth 😒
He couldn't do it in Denver because he was set up for failure from the get go there! No weapons, bad coaching, Sean Peyton and him never got a long. He was happy to get out of there. Hilarious now there paying him 37.5? Million dollars to play against them. Lol 😂 and he's killing it in Pittsburgh! Love it
As a Steeler fan, I was waiting for this video knowing you're 1) a Broncos fan and 2) good at your craft. You definitely did not disappoint! My feeling from the outside was a lot of what you mentioned-Wilson didn't vibe with the team, Payton didn't work well with him. But the reason I'm a fan of this channel is you do a good job with nuance. I always felt there was plenty of good left in Russ's game because while yes the overall results weren't great in year 2 he was still waaay beyond what Pickett/Rudolph/Trubisky were showing. I agree with you that the truth is somewhere in the middle-The Steelers gave Russ a rock-solid foundation and focused on his strengths rather than force a square peg into a round hole, and Russ realized that what he tried with the Broncos didn't work. It was reported that Russ flew coach from Newark to meet with Tomlin, at least outwardly signaling some humility as opposed to a rockstar's entrance. At the very least, Russ knew that the Steelers would have no problem tossing him out, even before Justin Fields dropped into the Steelers' laps.
Sean Payton hated Russell Wilson because Wilson couldn't carry Payton the way that Drew Brees did. Thats why Payton was out in NO after Brees retired. Russ is an average NFL talent QB who can be successful when in a system that has solid coaching. Russ wasnt the biggest mistake Denver made...Sean Payton was the biggest mistake Denver made.
This is why people say that Russ is the most underrated qb. Idk how yall take what he was doing in his prime in Seattle and say that Russ is average, dude just say you didn’t actually watch Russell play at the time don’t make dumb claims that you cannot backup
Forgot who but one of the experts the other day said Ben Johsnon's offensive innovation is the best in the league outside of Sean Payton... I don't get the decade plus long hype.
Saying Wilson is average is nonsense. The guy played behind an average pass blocking ranking of 24th his entire time in Seattle, in 2017 Seattle had the 29th graded pass blocking O-line yet Wilson still led the NFL in TD passes that year. When looking at Wilson's stats, he's so far above average it isn't even remotely close.
I really want Russ to succeed because it would make Sean Payton look bad. He did him dirty and showed that he’s not only overrated as a coach but also a horrible person overall. I can easily imagine him wearing a dark hooded cloak telling Bo to come to the dark side. I want to see Payton fail so I’ve been rooting against the broncos this season, nothing personal
Life long Seahawk fan here....the 30 for 30 that happens not only about the LOB but Russ and how he basically forced his way out and hand picked his destination.. it will be an amazing documentary Damn you Josh Allen
That had to be hard to make after watching that side of him for so long. As a fan, tons of respect for seeing things as real as they are. Much respect and appreciation for a good vid.
Lmao I love you perna, but acting like Russ was designing the offense and not Hackett or Sean is some BS. He did what they asked and it wasn’t a fit with either, now he looks good because it’s a system that fits him.
I think Sean just made it abundantly clear he didn’t want to change his scheme to Russ’s more off schedule style of play. Happy to see him do better, sad that it’s still on our dime🤷♂️
Sean Payton doesn't get the criticism he deserves regarding the Russ situation. Coaches are supposed to put their players in a position to succeed. Not take a QB who built a HOF career on scrambling and improvising, and try to stuff him into a precise timing, pocket passing system. Then scapegoat him when it doesn't work.
It feels like Broncos fans want to justify why things went wrong instead of blaming the organization. Russ had ZERO control over the offense with Sean Payton, yet he looks better in Pittsburgh. The year before Hackett was his coach. Be honest Brandon! 😂
If the Steelers played the Broncos in the playoffs I would be so hyped for that game. The fact that the Russel Wilson Sean Payton revenge match didn’t happen earlier in the season due to Russ being hurt would make that game that much better.
The steelers have always had the perfect team. Always 1 or 2 player away from perfection. Their defense has always been top teir. They just need a mobile QB with decent accuracy and a decent arm. Look at what Big Ben did with them. Imagine if they had a Brady, manning Payton not Eli, or Lamar. Go back to Cordell Stewart, he wasn't anything special but with the team around him they were great. Russell Wilson is just the perfect fit, just like Darnold in Minnesota, Jarod Goff in Detroit, baker in Tampa. Certain football programs have a perfect blueprint that works for them. New England didn't have the best teams with loads of hall of famer's but still won a crap ton of Lombardi trophies. Happy for Wilson and steelers Nation. Just wish we colts could find a perfect fit in Qb as well. We just need a little (Luck).

For the record, Russ never left.. he was in a bad situation in Denver, especially with a HC that did not want him.. (Russ still mamaged to hav a decent season his last year in Denver)
Very generous take from perna , given the steelers check is way outmatched by the 37+ the broncos have had to give him. Ringleader should have been ringmaster but broncos as a circus was still funny af
I was skeptical about DangeRuss's "renaissance" merely based on his wins against a past-his-prime Aaron Rodgers and a never-in-his-prime Daniel Jones. But he just beat a QUALITY opponent in Washington, and given how sus Baltimore's defense is I feel he has a legit shot at winning next week too!
This is something Ive been noticing a lot in sports recently (mostly a hockey fan but somewhat into most other sports as well) like rampant claims that somebody who was once great has fallen off and when they get traded away they have a crazy unexpected comeback. In a lot of these cases the player taking the blame usually hasnt fallen off as hard as their fans like to believe because the reality is that the team around them has done most of the hard work towards building a future where they are less competitive. When an elite guy has had an elite team around them for the longest time and eventually the bottom falls out thats gonna take a toll on them no matter how good they actually are. Then they get sent to a team where expectations arent as high and when they prove theyre still good at the game theyve been elite at their entire lives everyone acts so surprised. Im not anymore. Give the right players the right tools theyll make something out of it every time no matter what the expectations were.
I remember seeing a post about beast mode vs Najee stats their first 4 years. Nearly identical stats. And now Najee is teaming up with Russ around the same age Beast Mode did when he got traded to Seattle and Russ got drafted…
Russell's first year in Denver, he had incompetent coaching over a bad team. No protection, always running for his life, and nobody to throw to that is open. Russell's second year in Denver, he had a terrible defense and a coach who hated his guts and got within a fumbled punt of dragging that awful team to the playoffs. His QB numbers were basically identical to Patrick Mahomes' numbers that year. Everyone in Seattle knew the same thing that Tomlin did. Which is not to say that the analysis presented about Russ was inaccurate or that he did not need to grow. But the talent was always there. On the plus side for Denver, I think Bo Nix will be about the same sort of player as John Elway, which is to say really good. He can run like the wind, like Elway. He can make good throws, like Elway. And he seems pretty smart, like Elway. He may not win two superbowls. But Denver has found an NFL quarterback that Payton likes and who is going to be pretty good.
They didn't even win both of their last 2 games when Russ was benched so I never understood why he gets the blame. Also, I hear people blame him for the 70 point game when he doesn't play defense. These people clearly don't understand team sports if you truly believe Russ was the only problem for Denver last year. His first year was bad and I never defend that one. But, people talk like he's coming off his first year with Denver instead of his second when he left.
Actually, the defense had a couple bad games, but they were actually pretty good for most of the year. Most people think it was Denver’s defense that gave them more than half the wins last year.
@mikegarcia7452 Well, why didn't they do that after he was benched? I just find it funny how y'all keep trying to find ways to put everything wrong with Denver on Russ. They weren't doing anything before he got there but losing. I mean, let's be real. If Russell Wilson never went Denver. Would you even talk about them? They'd just be a middle of the roam team like the Cardinals that no one talks about. They get a couple of wins but aren't serious threats to any team. That's what they were. They only got coverage because Russ went like right now with Pittsburgh. Nobody was talking about Pittsburgh before he got there and they tried to start this little so called beef between him and Fields.
@@RheemQ nobody put the blame of the broncos all on Russ! He came to a bad situation and most of us fans wanted to see Wilson kick a$$. It was rough for Broncos because we couldn’t get the right coaching staff or a decent qb. Something that happens to all football teams at some point. Denver lost the last two games after Russ, because they were going for a qb in the draft and wouldn’t have gotten one if they won them games. Pretty easy to figure that out if you know a team needs a qb.
[9:52] What Changed: An actual running game including a Running Back with multiple 1,000 yard seasons, a Receiver, whom last season as a ROOKIE achieved a 1,000 season with THREE different quarterbacks under center… In Denver, Courtland Sutton, and maybe Jerry Jeudy were serviceable receivers. However, their production including the running back Javonte Williams were on par with the Steelers WR2 and RB2 on the Steelers roster… Bottom line; Sean Payton is not a flexible coach who can adapt his strategies to serve the situation… He had a second Hall of Fame quarterback, who has accomplished arguably more than his first HoF QB helming an offense, and chose to make him a scapegoat, instead of developing together… Now the BRONCOS are literally paying said HoF Quarterback an insane amount of money to helm the Steelers Super Bowl run this season. Not to mention they look more likely than not to be the primary contenders to win it all… It’s looking like a THREE horse race currently with the Chiefs, Steelers, and Ravens… [5:31] That is all the endorsement ONE needs in DENVER, that proves who was right for the JOB… 🤔
Russ never left.. Steelers team is built similar to those Seattle teams that was Russ was on.. goodDefense, goodRunGame, with efficient QB play from Russ..(and cooks when he needs too)... I will say Russ experience in Denver may hav humbled him a little bit, so now he got back to what made him awesome in Seattle
That Steelers offseason was actually pretty nuts when thinking about QBs. They got their guy in Russell Wilson for however long, and have their potential future starter cooking up in the back with Justin Fields learning how to play with Wilson (im guessing) teaching him.
Denver convinced themselves that Russ could run a past-first offense, because that’s what they needed and he was the best available. Pete Caroll knew that Russ was great in a run first offense, and Mike Tomlin knows it too. I hope Russ has finally learned.
It is pretty amazing that he was able to swallow his ego and work with a new team , how many players , vets and rookies alike, have had the attitude that “they are the problem “ and fail over and over again
Here’s the problem Perna: Denver management did everything wrong in the Mr. Unlimited debacle. They brought in an offensive coordinator in order to lure Aaron Rogers in. That didn’t work! So, the same, now disappointed OC has to pretend like Russell Wilson has the same skill set when they’re dramatically different QBs. Denver ownership overpays him to the tune of half a billion dollars - a laughable amount for any QB but the result is expectations that far exceed reality putting too much pressure on everyone to succeed, especially, Russell Wilson! When it fails, Denver ownership once again sticks their foot in it bringing one of the most disagreeable personalities in to coach the team who is widely known for his unethical if not immoral tactics in New Orleans to coach him. Not a good idea! Fortunately for Russell, Denver was impatient enough to cut him. More fortunate still for Pittsburgh who will roll the Broncos is stunning fashion if they meet in the playoffs where I guarantee, Russell will have his best game EVER!
The most reasonable comment I've since in the last year. Denver fans never want to admit their own expectations and their organization have screwed them for years since Manning retired. They really thought they were just a QB away from winning a SB. When they never had elite wideouts, good running game, decent O line, or a great defense at any point during Russ time with them. They got 70 points dropped on them because that's how bad their defense was when he was there. I'm not saying he deserved the contract he got. But, he should be penalized for being offered that contract and have these unrealistic expectations put on him when he never had the OC that fit his style not to mention the list of things mentioned earlier.
Wilson is actually a very good QB he was just went through a crappy team in Denver. In Pittsburgh he met a good coach Tomlin with entire good team, talented receivers team, strong defense team combined that resulting a real star shines.
Russell Wilson and Arthur Smith are a match made in heaven. It's like Smith's offense was specifically designed for him. Payton prefers more of a Checkdown Charlie safe and efficient kind of guy and Hackett, well, it's right there in his name. Russ wasn't a scheme fit in Denver. Pittsburgh had already been building a team centered around pounding the rock, setting up play action, and leaning on the defense long before bringing Wilson in. Now we ride. Or smelt I guess. Whatever.
I think one of the new stereotypes that should be along the lines of: Develop your young QB behind a vet for a few years, don’t bench your franchise QB unless you want to unload him from the roster, draft premium positions in early rounds, get your QB an O-line The new one should be to bring in a new head coach before you bring in a new QB and have to fire your coach after one year. I think you’re only one QB away if you have a coach that can create a winning culture in all phases of football that can carry the team before your QB has to and have a head coach who isn’t on the way out. Detroit did it with Goff and Campbell, LA did it Stafford and McVay, Mahomes and Reid, McDermott and Allen, Big Ben and Cowher, seemingly Quinn and Daniels, Stroud and Ryans, and finally Russ and Carroll. You can’t blame your QB failing if you follow the formula. Get your coach, culture, and team together before you get your QB. Idk what it is, but what I do know is a QB is going to fail in the league if his HC was fired within his first 2 seasons more often than not with mostly QB’s on rookie contract to Vet on new teams. (Sorry Jags, both NY teams, Miami, and soon to be bears… browns ur just bad). We rarely see established QB’s actually get better after acquiring a new HC, we mostly see them just leave elsewhere to get their production back up. Russ was innocent in Denver!!!
How is it a W for Denver? They're most likely not gonna have a winning season and probably finish 8-9 or 7-10 with their remaining schedule. Wheras, Pittsburgh should finish 11-6 if not 10-7 at minimum again but I could see them going 11-6.
@JBob08 I mean, Pittsburgh is in a better position having a veteran QB like Russ who could show a future franchise QB line Justin how to throw downfield and a great defense that just needed an equal offense to contend. But, I just don't see Denver being better off because they're still almost in the same situation but in another season or so i could see them having the pieces they need to be bigger contenders in the league. Nix isn't great but he isn't terrible either so they could have something with him. I personally they get rid of Payton and hire Bill for Denver but that's just me.
@@RheemQ the attitude and culture of the Denver team this year is what I'm basing it off. Last year it never seemed like they thought they should be winning. It felt more like a race to bench Russ. Their record this season doesn't match just how much enthusiasm there is on that team right now and that can be a difference maker. It was clear Payton and Russ weren't going to gel, so the decision was ultimately the best choice for everyone and it seems like both teams are better for it.
Seattle won a Super Bowl with help from Russell Wilson and an insane iconic defence, the difference between Denver and Pittsburgh is that he has become humble again.
As a young hawks fan, Russ really was someone I looked up to so much, and I’m just so glad that he’s finally finding success again! (And it’s not for the broncos!)
I watched him live against the Giants. Minus a late sack and a freak fumble, the Steelers offense actually look like 3rd and long isn’t an automatic out. He has touch on his long passes, something Pickett didn’t have the accuracy for and Fields has too much juice (which I believe can be taught). The way you describe Pete Carroll can go double for Mike Tomlin: leans on defense and the run. I think Tomlin (a Cowher clone really) is more comfortable controlling the game, not shooting teams out. Ben Roethlisberger lit up stats in the latter half of his career, but the games were erratic and he had to win. The Steelers won Super Bowls when there was balance. You didn’t have to have the ball last, but were prepared at QB if you did. The Steelers have a guy in Wilson you can trust…SB 51 not withstanding but better than a flawed Fields in terms of his arm.

Exactly. A huge thing this guy ignores.

He scapegoated him to buy himself more time, rookie qb essentially buying him 3 more years
@CyraXFactor That scrub Sean benched Russ when he was actually playing well. Sean is a control freak who wants everything his way.
Prove the haters wrong Russ
Russ, prove to Future that Ciara doesnt belong to the streets 😭 💀
He's washed
@@viralbull8085he might be washed, but even washed QBs can win games with the right defense and o-line. have you seen our QB play in the last 4 years?
@@viralbull8085 He's not actually washed, he's the same QB minus the mobility. Russ was always a systematic QB, run the ball, short passes to the flat, run the ball again and once in a while go for play action deep bombs. Having a great defense is needed so you don't have to change your approach on offense. The Steelers are basically running the Seahawks offense from the Pete Carroll days. What whet wrong in Denver was Russ wanted to be a Drew Brees when that not who he was.
He was being held back by Sean.
I dunno, maybe Russell Wilson has a better O-line in Pittsburgh than he did in Denver. Or he could just have a better coach. Who knows?🤷🏽♂

Better O-line? Denver had a top 5 passing line last year IIRC. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure the Steelers aren't top 5 in pass blocking
Russell Wilson is back as long as Mike Tomlin uses him the correct way. Russell Wilson is a play action pass run first quarterback, and he always will be. a team that is defensive, heavy and relies on the run with sprinkles of deep passes is exactly what he needs to be successful.

Tomlin is a master of being able to extract the most out of every player he has.
Much like how a great QB makes average WRs look incredible, Tomlin takes average players and pulls winning seasons out of his keester
It's literally just team culture. When you've been around a long time, and everyone knows that the D goes and makes big plays, yeah people really do go do that.
@VeteranVandal He's a horse?
As a Steelers fan, Tomlin's schemes and tactics are pretty whack. Definitely no Andy Reid for offense nor a bill Belichick on defense.... but Tomlin is great at seeing talent and managing people. Good enough to not need to be good at scheme.

I still think Payton had a vendetta against him. He threw for 26 td and 8 int last season, but for some reason, people think he's washed?
stats dont tell the whole story, he was awful in denver.

@@greenAbbot He failed because of Hackett.
@@greenAbbotRuss had a great running back in Seattle. They should have bested the Patriots. JUST RUN TO DAYLIGHT!!!!!
Sean Payton is overrated. There, i said it.

This is acc really good unbiased analysis. As a Steelers fan, cheers
Mike Tomlin is such a great coach. No matter what has been going on in and around the locker room he has always had the Steelers competitive. If they let his contract “expire” I would absolutely love him in Carolina.

Thank you Denver for the wonderful gift of Russell Wilson
Thankfully for Sean We have a New, Younger more than average QB in Bo Nix!!!
Average?
Life long Seahawk fan here....the 30 for 30 that happens not only about the LOB but Russ and how he basically forced his way out and hand picked his destination.. it will be an amazing documentary

The defense wasn't "dominant at the end of the day" though, it was absolutely horrid for his last 5 years in seattle
Denver upcoming schedules got tougher
No way Denver makes playoffs

All of this also doesn’t include the Steelers starting center being injured for 3 weeks. This Steelers team will only get better

GUNSLINGER. DEEP BALL RUSS ,
OPENING UP THE. OFFENSE , KEEPING THOSE. DEFENDERS GUESSING ----- LOVING IT !!!!!
Defense cost them the playoffs! Why they kept that coordinator I will never understand!
[9:52] What Changed: An actual running game including a Running Back with multiple 1,000 yard seasons, a Receiver, whom last season as a ROOKIE achieved a 1,000 season with THREE different quarterbacks under center…
In Denver, Courtland Sutton, and maybe Jerry Jeudy were serviceable receivers. However, their production including the running back Javonte Williams were on par with the Steelers WR2 and RB2 on the Steelers roster…
Bottom line; Sean Payton is not a flexible coach who can adapt his strategies to serve the situation… He had a second Hall of Fame quarterback, who has accomplished arguably more than his first HoF QB helming an offense, and chose to make him a scapegoat, instead of developing together…
Now the BRONCOS are literally paying said HoF Quarterback an insane amount of money to helm the Steelers Super Bowl run this season. Not to mention they look more likely than not to be the primary contenders to win it all…
It’s looking like a THREE horse race currently with the Chiefs, Steelers, and Ravens…
[5:31] That is all the endorsement ONE needs in DENVER, that proves who was right for the JOB…

Russel Wilson is the inverse of Aaron Rodgers
@ Exactly! And I’m no huge fan of the company mouthpiece that is Russell Wilson. That noted, he’s not a bad QB. Pretty good actually. Tc
Wilson is actually a very good QB he was just went through a crappy team in Denver. In Pittsburgh he met a good coach Tomlin with entire good team, talented receivers team, strong defense team combined that resulting a real star shines.
And still you think Russ was the problem in Denver lol.
Great video brandon🔥💥🏈
Russell Wilson and Arthur Smith are a match made in heaven.
It's like Smith's offense was specifically designed for him.
Payton prefers more of a Checkdown Charlie safe and efficient kind of guy and Hackett, well, it's right there in his name. Russ wasn't a scheme fit in Denver.
Pittsburgh had already been building a team centered around pounding the rock, setting up play action, and leaning on the defense long before bringing Wilson in.
Now we ride. Or smelt I guess. Whatever.
Let’s build?
I think one of the new stereotypes that should be along the lines of:
Develop your young QB behind a vet for a few years, don’t bench your franchise QB unless you want to unload him from the roster, draft premium positions in early rounds, get your QB an O-line
The new one should be to bring in a new head coach before you bring in a new QB and have to fire your coach after one year.
Mike Tomlin gets the best out of his players. He knows the right ingredients to fix and turns the dial to the right place and Walla, success.
Life is good for Russ when your head coach doesn’t openly hate your guts.
Denver needed a lot more than a quarterback when Russ arrived. The Steelers are a much better team.
Great video holding in the bitterness Brandon👏
I'm a Ravens fan. I was a little nervous about the game until watching this video for some reason. Not worried because of Russ, but because of Tomlin
russ threw 5 tds and beat yall 35-6 lmfao
As a Jets fan, this channel allows me to enjoy the NFL in some capacity
A year removed and what looked crazy has turned into a W for both teams. Rare as hell these days.
How is it a W for Denver? They're most likely not gonna have a winning season and probably finish 8-9 or 7-10 with their remaining schedule. Wheras, Pittsburgh should finish 11-6 if not 10-7 at minimum again but I could see them going 11-6.
@ I'd say both teams are in a better place this year than last year, all around. It's just my opinion on them, though.
People need to realize it's not always the player sometimes it's the coaching or ownership
Seattle won a Super Bowl with help from Russell Wilson and an insane iconic defence, the difference between Denver and Pittsburgh is that he has become humble again.
Funny how that iconic Legion of Boom and the iconic coach missed the playoffs with a 7-9 record the year before. I wonder what made the difference.
As a young hawks fan, Russ really was someone I looked up to so much, and I’m just so glad that he’s finally finding success again! (And it’s not for the broncos!)
steelers nation here we go!
It's the Steelers mentality.
No more backstabbers,
Russell always was a gutsy QB
Really happy seeing Russ succeed. Always liked the Steelers cuz of my uncle, so its cool seeing him go to a team i can still root for.
