  • Here is my latest cockpit review, this time taking a look at the Sim-Lab GT1 Evo! This latest cockpit from Sim-Lab is their new entry level Aluminum Extrusion based cockpit, slotting into a competitive price bracket. How does this cockpit stack up?

    Not sure what the complaint about the instructions is? Shows you how to put two pieces together and there's not exactly 500 lengths of aluminium so it's pretty easy to figure out which bit attaches to which from the picture....

    I mounted the rail for the shifter on the outer side with the two additional angles that come with the package. Gives you a better adjustability to move the rail forward or backward. First added rolls underneath but soon switched to some silent blocks to get rid of noise that shakes through the chassis.

  • @CreamyCornCob

    Extruded aluminum structure isn't designed to flex - it doesn't. The build quality (or manufacture assembly) would be the problem with flexing. A simple brace or proper construction would fix flexing. And most importantly, those very tiny 90 degree anchor points are WEAK. (look at the 2:25 mark) If those were 3"x 3" with two anchor bolts each face, there wouldn't be any flex. The flex isn't coming from the chassis, its the given hardware. And as a private jet mechanic, we kinda know stuff ;) Take care.

    • @_xndrzt
      @_xndrzt 5 років тому

      hi, so you think it could be possible to fix the amount of flex of the wheel tray by using some other anchor points and bolts than the ones are given with the rig?
      thanks

    • @CreamyCornCob
      @CreamyCornCob 5 років тому +2

      @@_xndrzt Absolutely. like I said, if the 90deg anchor supports were larger and allowing for another bolt on each face to be installed, the would get rid a bunch of flex. Bigger anchor = decreasing leverage. One more bolt on each face = decrease leverage thus flexing.

    According to the Simlab support, the gt1 Evo is more versatile than the gt2 which is more compact. For example, front mount, Inverted pedals rack, ... are available for gt1 ans not gt2.
    For me, one detail is the fact that you can adjust the pedal plate in 2 dimensions which is not possible with the gt2.

      I just feel the main struggling point of the Evo right now is the wheel deck. Granted, I haven't tried a DD1 on an Evo, but I just think there would be more movement than I'd be comfortable with.
