Great video. Just got a p0447 code on my Forester. Looks like a doable fix. Thanks for the great info!
Happy to help! Good luck with the repair!
Right on, I’m sure mine needs that done, too… I’ll put it on the list- thanks!
No worries, hope it goes smoothly!
Thanks so much man. I’m having this issue with my 2009 Subaru Forester
Of course, hopefully you can get it all fixed!
Great video. Please keep it up. I have a forester with this same issue.
Great, glad I could help!
Solid video my guy 💯
Thanks, dude! I appreciate the support!
Currently working on this same issue with my 2013 STI Hatch. The purge valve is much smaller and hidden above the rear driver's side cv joint. Was very tricky to get to. At least the charcoal canister is in the hatch area.
Oh damn, they squished things together in the newer cars! At least you were able to locate it haha
I have a Evap code for gas cap, and misfire cylinder 1 hopefully I can use your videos to help fix them.
The gas cap could absolutely be this issue and for the cylinder 1, it could be the spark plugs, plug wires or coil pack. It could also be the head gasket but that would have other issues like burning coolant!
Yes no head gasket issues.
Just rough idle and misfire. I bought it and it has a Cheapo gas cap. I replaced plug and coil still have the issue. Doing gas cap next
Did you check the plug wires? We had a customer with the issue and it turned out to be the wires
Yes, replaced coil and plug and still have misfire codes
Darn, well hopfully the gas cap code can be fixed with this!
Hi Chase! I had the dealer fix mine and it only cost me $800.00! Wish you lived in Florida to maintain my Forester! Lol!
Woah that is rough! Evap systems are quick the pain when they go
@@Chase_Schrader Indeed! Made me learn how to do a lot of these repairs myself. Your videos give a lot of good tips (and encouragement)!
That is great to hear!!
Your videos are great man! My fiancé has a 04 wrx, I have a 05 sti and I’m picking up another 04 wrx in a couple weeks. We love Subarus and a couple of your videos wicked help when it comes to working on them
I am happy to hear that! Glad that I can beneficial to the awesome Subaru community!
I noticed my '07 Forester is having some trouble starting after I fill it up with gas? It seems to fill up normally, but when I go to start the engine after it sputters and I have to keep the key turned for a few seconds before the engine will stay on. I've had a P0442 code for awhile but I don't know if this would be my purge valve causing the problem or something else.
UPDATE 12/29/23
Replaced the canister purge valve under the hood of the car and I am no longer having problems with starting the car after getting gas!
I tried to replace the vent valve in the back like in the video, however my bolts were incredibly rusted and I stripped two of them. So I couldn't get the canister down and never actually got to replace the vent valve. I'm holding on to the part in case something happens and I need to replace it, but for now the car is running great!
As for the emissions code, I've driven 150 miles since detaching and reattaching the battery, and still no code. However, I also have not let the gas below half a tank since I know the car runs an emissions test at a quarter of a tank. I have a feeling my filler neck is rusted and is the actual problem, but for now, I was able to get it to pass the emissions test which is all I wanted.
Hmm that could be a few things, that code is about a evap system leak. If you are over filling it could plug up the system, it not it could be any number of evap connections between engine and the gas tank.
Same problem on my 02 wrx. Any time I fill up/ add any amount of gas into the tank it idles rough for a minute or so before it evens out again. Curious as to what you find
@@kevinvillarreal4138 Ah yeah, evap is a pain to troubleshoot shoot! My guess is something to do with the line running to the engine, could be plugged or one of the vents not opening
Had an issue with my 07 FXT for about a year(I don't drive it all that much) where whenever I put fuel in it, on a day warmer than about 60 degrees, it won't *simply* crank over. It'll crank for about 10 seconds before like one or two cylinders start firing and she runs like a DOG, give it a little gas and get rolling and another 5 seconds later it clears up, at least clears up good enoug to run on all 4. A block down the road she runs like new again. On a particularly rough fuel up where I had to put a full tank in it for a road trip, it cranked for about twice as long as it previously had and threw out some puffs of black smoke; and I do mean puffs, you could see PUFF... PUFF, like the cylinder wasn't firing.
Yikes! That sounds like quite the issue that could be from multiple things. Did you end of fixing it? What was the problem?
@@Chase_Schrader I haven't fixed it yet, but i'm pretty confident it's to do with the charcoal canister in the back that filters fuel fumes, as well as the valve that controls the fumes entering the intake(I believe for emmissions purposes). Long story short, I believe the valve is stuck open when it's supposed to shut when the car turns off, so gas fumes are flooding the intake on a refuel.
Ahhh I could see that! Best of luck getting that sorted out!
Should change the canister if it’s spilling out like that.
Yeah, if it I wasn't thrashing it off road that would be a good idea haha
Thanks!
You bet!
Wait how did you clean out the hoses?
A long screw drive and some poking around ahaha
I just stick my foot under and give it a few kicks and it pumps normally lol
Ahaha I mean that will knock the valve loose if it isn't bad
I have 05 wrx and I can’t seem to find that valve . Is it somewhere else?.
My 2004 STi had the same one and this guide says its there: cars.natemichals.com/wrx-vapor-canister-purge-valve-replacement-write-up/
Maybe it was deleted on your car? Or is it a JDM car, they might of had a different system. I'm not quite sure though.
I have an 04 forester, I found the valve which is the same as yours but all the auto parts stores seem to have a differnt model than that one I can’t find it either.(update) it’s called a vent valve on most sites not a purge valve. The name makes all the difference
@@loganrogers969My Wrx has the charcoal canister underneath the passenger rear wheel but thier is no Purge Valve. Not sure why . ? Unless it’s somewhere else
@@loganrogers969 If you are in North America check Rock Auto, that's where I got mine
@@mikeyaquino7868 according the all the part stores it’s a vent valve lol
Did that valve fix the problem
It fixed it till the valve in the tank got stuck closed haha
Can you provide the part number?
OEM is 42084FA120
P0547 and P0026 what do you think
Those are both very different from this emissions problem. One is ETG and the other is a solenoid. There could be a million different things wrong with that combination, if you are looking at getting it fixed I would take to a reputable shop in your area. Sorry I can't be more help!
Actually a vent valve. Just saying
According to the diagram on Subaru Parts says Purge Solenoid... Feel free to check it here www.subarupartsplus.com/v-2004-subaru-forester--xt--2-5l-h4-gas/emission-system--emission-components
@@Chase_Schrader notice it says vent valve under where it says subaru
Yup, that's the type of part, hence why the community uses both the terms interchangeably. I am sure I have called it both before
@@Chase_Schrader yes, not a big deal at all. Both parts do the same job, but to differentiate between the two they were given different names. Generally speaking, the one in the engine bay is a purge solenoid, and the one near the tank a vent solenoid. Whatever who cares
Better let Subaru parts know.... you seem to care quite a bit
If you have charcoal loose in the hoses you need a new canister. The purge is going to go bad again.
Eh at 400,000kms it's to be expected, it worked though haha
F this ginger ale
I'm not sure what ginger ale has to do with anything, but hey, you do you! Curious to know what made you drop this comment here though. Care to elaborate?
@@Chase_Schrader Maybe he was drinking some off Brand Ginger ale while watching your video?
Ahaha sounds about right
Thanks!
Of course! Always happy to help!
wHts the part number
42084FA120 is the part number
