Rayne Orr I don't really care about squishing ants until they either a) try to climb my shoe b) get too close to my food Or c) it's a supermajor and they are attacking us.
I started watching this channel a few years ago when I didn't keep ants. Now I have a colony of big headed ants and almost have either a carpenter or honeypot ant colony.
I always had a slight curiosity as to the incredible abilities of the ant kingdom, but never found too much interest to them...thanks to this amazing ass channel i now have an itch (hopefully not from any recent ant bites) to start getting into ant colonies...maintenance as you know of course may be a nightmare to start though. And of course now house a guilty conscious for what my younger self had done in the past to ants
+RookieNoobGamer Awesome! It's a great hobby and ants are just amazing! Don't worry too much about maintenance as it isn't overbearing as long as the colony isn't massive and most ant colonies in captivity take years to get massive if ever.
***** Never got Ant farms or anything when I was a kid but I always thought they were cool. I like normal black ants the most. Btw what are those SUPER tiny bright red things, are those ants? Not in your video just irl. Like you see them around and they're really tiny bright red things.
Yes, what is your plan in the event of damage to the tubes or the containers? Such as earthquake. Never know. Have to have a plan in such a disaster. Guess just get out?: )
Wow.x 3. I just think your channel is so fascinating. I am 50 years old and from Montreal, Canada. I have always loved and had an interest with ants and watching them, since I was a little kid. My friends thought I was a bit weird. You have a very well set up of all the ant housing. This is my first time in the comments section. I had found your channel a week ago. I absolutely love it!
i literally hate ants in irl but for some reason i love watching your vids. i dont get it LOL its satisfying watching as well. keep up the good work subbed
You would be attacked by a SWAT team and thrown into prison here in Australia if you had a Fire ant colony. LOL Seriously, these ants are an enviromentalists nightmare.
Ants Canada do u think when u hit 500k subs u can make a video/compilation of firenation from when it first started all the way to now so we can see the full progress of the colony. Just an idea
About a year ago, I had ants living in my wall that I didn't tell my parents about, because I was so interested in them. I loved watching how they move, and fed them occasionally.
i have a young messor barbarus colony since 3 or 4 month now. At the start there were ~45 workers + the queen :) Like 35 of them are minors, a few media and i think some of them are pygmies because they are sooo small! :D This is my first colony so i dont have that much knowledge about ants. Today after the first few month i have already seen a few majors(4 maybe 5 - THEY ARE SO HUGE!!! Awesome!) and more are comin'! I give them as much food(mostly seed but mosquitos and midges too)as i can to help them enough to grow and expand fast :) Is it true if get the majors so early im doin' everything right? I dont exactly know when i need to moist the nest part of my farm... Im so excited, sry for the long text!
+dennis trident william if you watched the movie Antz you can see termites killing the ants. The ants didn't stand a chance so give the spider a chance to :)
1:40 Keep your eye on that one ant towards the middleish that's curled and cleaning itself. It disappears! Looking at the other ants, it didn't look like the video was cut. If that ant didn't disappear, than I don't even know how fast it had to be to do that.
If somebody owns an insectivorous animal, is it possible to make a tube from an ant colony into say a predatory animal's cage so that there is a micro ecosystem, network? I mean it'd be a cool experiment to create a large ecosystem run by ant colonies that are feeders, and scavengers/ cleaners of the leftover food
holy shit, this guy might show up on the news as a person who was eaten alive by ants in his house when the colony got to big and took over his whole house and almost took over his neighbourhood.
your work is pretty impressive :) i have an ant phobia because i accidently steped in an forest ant hill as a kid in germany but the older i get the more fastzinating this topic gets :) greetings from germany
Shalom Griffinflyer no it just hurts. Btw there is a tribe that proves we are all weaklings they make a glove that places hundreds of bullet ants inside there they shove there hands inside there as long as they can. The longer there hand is in there the more of a man they are.
you should have another colony of ants grow in a different nest, then attach them to see what happens... preferably the best ant war in history. maybe you could even make a battle ground for them! unless, of course, you don't like killing them for entertainment...
When you have a colony you tend to love them like children. Asking someone to have 2 colonies fight is like taking some dogs and locking them together in a cage until they kill each other. You just can't bring yourself to do it

any suggestions on a premade formicarium and ant species to start with? also, does the size of the nest just keep growing or can one decent size formicarium be sufficient
Love watching the ants when I get up in am and at nite before bed. They fascinate and sooth me all at once. On my good days I watch my feral ant nest outside, crazy ants.
A possible name for their satelite nest on the white sand hill could be: "Burning Man" or "Burning Man Hill." Each year there's a Burning Man annual gathering or festival that takes place at Black Rock City, a temporary community (like this satellite nest) erected in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, where descendants can escape and find themselves. This white sand hill reminds me of Nevada's flat, desertous regions...

this channel actually sorta made me like ants! although I still might squish one if it crawls. on my bed, I don't kick off anthills anymore, ant love!
+Rayne Orr Yay ant love is growing!

Perhaps it should be named Tristram, for the fire ants. As a funny reference to Diablo.
What happens to the ants when they die naturally in these environments? Do the other workers move them somewhere or are they eaten?
Don't mind me, just putting my comment here to see if anyone knows the answer. I'm curious.
No problems, I'm curious about it too
Same.
i saw in internet (i think) that ants who die are food for the ... larvas? (i dont speak english so you maybe dont understand what i am saying)
Yeah I can see something like that being the case. Kind of gross in a way but hey it's nature I guess
Hey Antscanada? I was wondering ... Have you ever witnessed an ant being hatched open?
+Madalee Frohlich Yes, from a pupa. It should be on this channel somewhere. Older video.
AntsCanada you know what bro. It's seems you actually talked normally in this episode and not like a movie director you know?
Name it the fire nation
Damn right
I just fucking died thank you! lmfao
Your comment made my day.
True 😂😂😂
YES
i got hooked on these videos... Idk how?
Same here. I've been watching them for 3 hours straight now... UA-cam recommendation system is great.
+Perseus Siebenundzwanzig same! Can't stop watching
He's using hypnotism!!!!lol
Same here
I thought I was the only one! I've never even seen an ants nest before!
It's kinda relaxing watching videos like this XD I guess it's cause I watch action TV shows and drama stuff so I'm kinda high strung.
+Philip Paul Haha thanks for watching!

the really really tiny ones? that leave a red smear? clover mites if im not mistaken
rjwaters3 I never crushed them lol I just saw them around and thought they were really tiny red ants of some kind.
+Philip Paul oh oh I love Roy mustang!
I have no idea why, but I am inclined to subscribe to this channel
+Ionlymadethistoleavecoments thank you! I appreciate that a lot!
It was kind of a backhanded compliment, but your welcome!
his enthusiasm is quite additive!
maybe this guy is using pheromones...
I think it's because watching these videos is as close as a lot of will get to actually owning a pimped out ant farm full of fire ants.
What would you do if you lost your queen? Like a pest gets in, kills the queen and then is killed by the workers?
+StickMarsChannel the the colony will die iut eventually.
***** Would you not replace it?
The workers may not accept the new Queen.
I think you have to slowly introduce the new queen somehow
Yet another One Piece fan
OMG WHY AM I WATCHING THIS?! AND I CANT STOP XD
Name: The Fire Nation, the avatar anyone?
fire (ant) nation!
davekachel Yea! That Would be pretty cool, this needs to happen!
long ago the four nations lived in harmony...
That's what I was thinking. That or Mordor.
Now we need to figure out what ant species the other nations would be...
i can only imagine what would happen if the glass accidentally broke...
It's called hell in a house
Its called burn the house down
It's just ants not bees, if they lost their home they'd scatter and most would die.
Yes, what is your plan in the event of damage to the tubes or the containers? Such as earthquake. Never know. Have to have a plan in such a disaster. Guess just get out?: )
The ants getting out won't be a concern when an earthquake wrecks your house.
Please. Please for the love of God. Name it Ant-Arctica!!
I can't top that
it's funny, but i'm not sure it fits the mood with fire ants.
+Chris Howard
Exactly!
Antarctica.Wait, where are the ants on this ice block if its named Fricking ANTARTICA(its supposed to be an Antarctica joke)
i would name it "Roman" :,D

XD Did the ant dad think he was watching porn or something *Lenny fwce*
Ants were in my iPad once
Ants where on my iPad a lot
I find ants annoying, insignificant pests. But this channel makes me think otherwise. Their society is so complex and creative.
the way the ants explore judge decide what to do with a new area they are truly amazing organized creatures
+Skytronix Gaming ikr?! Collective intelligence.
Is it possible to overfeed ants?
Imagine if they would explode when they eat too much XDDD
You should call it solemalia
get it, Solenopsis and Somalia!!!

I don't get it...
im a bit too late
The Name ant-lantica just would great

How would a live spider stack up against that colony
Oh man! Would not stand a chance!
it will die
He'd get swarmed and melted by ant acid.
A single ant can take on something like 5 times its size :l
+dennis trident william if you watched the movie Antz you can see termites killing the ants. The ants didn't stand a chance so give the spider a chance to :)
I have a question : how long does a Queen live ?
20 yrs
20-30 depends on the species.
most live only a few days. cause most never get a nest. most get eaten by cats or squished by human kids
or eatin by birds
Da Dude lol I squish most ants that I find 😎😎😎
Idea For New ...Module I guess:
A huge plastic tank (or whatever the tanks are made of) that fills up a room.
Done xD
flare mountain

I literally had a termite control ad before this.
holy shit, this guy might show up on the news as a person who was eaten alive by ants in his house when the colony got to big and took over his whole house and almost took over his neighbourhood.
+corpralcobra let's hope not! Haha!
+AntsCanada just dont let the colony get too big....i dont want to be right on this one
If you are right i will lose faith in humanity

your work is pretty impressive :) i have an ant phobia because i accidently steped in an forest ant hill as a kid in germany but the older i get the more fastzinating this topic gets :) greetings from germany
how hard do you think it is to raise bullet ant colonies?
+adolf Hitler Hard and painful if they get you!
Boy, three stings from them can kill you.
Shalom Griffinflyer no it just hurts. Btw there is a tribe that proves we are all weaklings they make a glove that places hundreds of bullet ants inside there they shove there hands inside there as long as they can. The longer there hand is in there the more of a man they are.

how...

I think he did a video involving that
sup
izzythefizzy 4.0 Which one was it?
I once saw a flying ant on a leaf and it looked to be grooming itself? and then it started to take off its wings... it was the strangest experience ever... Can you explain?
+Paul Springer Yes, this was a mated queen removing her wings prior to starting her colony. Catching these queens is how to start a colony.
oh dang, I had no idea, it was pretty crazy to see an insect remove its own body part xD thanks for letting me know (:
What?
Here in Brazil we eat a flying ant called Tanajura, i swear that is pretty delicious!!!
I love how it's like a vlog and also gives you information about the fire nation it's amazing

Has liturally never liked ants until I found this channel
+Some Random “Eridan” Artist awwww that means a lot to me. Hey, thank you for watching!
Hey no problem!
They are also way more interesting then I originally thought!

Haha! Knocking on wood!
1:42 An ant disappeared.

Ants are illuminati confirmed

Didn't watch the entire video yet but related to satellite nests: Have you heard of any incidents where a satellite nest turned against the main one?
I don't get it. Is the queen in a different spot or something
+Jocelyn Lee She is in one of the nests somewhere. You can see her in earlier videos when the colony wasn't so big.
I hate ants but I love watching these😂
+Josh Austin Thank you! It's a different perspective of them.
This channel is one of my top 5 favorites. It even makes me want to start my own ant colony eventually
Been on this channel for a few yrs I just love this guy.
Does the queen just get up and move to a satellite nest to lay eggs there then?
i think the workers move the queen
Yeh, the queens are pretty fat and lazy
I don't know what it is but I'm hooked to these videos
+Demented monkey 12 you have ant love!
AntsCanada
why don't you keep flying ants
+Isaiah Brown this colony now has flying ants.

You guys are jerks. He obviously cares about them. Its his hobby and you want to kill them. Typical. I hope your colony thrives even more, Antscanada.
sakal ramona It's a joke, not a dick, don't take it so hard.
How did I end up here? And why do I keep watching ants?
what's your favorite ant? mine is Eciton rapax, although probably impossible to keep in captivity.

Why is this in my recommended again
I don't really care because I actually find this fascinating.
Because you keep watching them
Fair enough

I am freakin addicted to these videos.... I just cant stop.... ants are so cool....
Now that you mentioned aphids, could you provide some to one of your ants nest for them to farm them?
