There’s one rooster in this bunch that is a dark brown color I might hold back and see if I can produce more. What are my chances of producing the brown and if I breed him with larger hens will the chicks take after the rooster in size or a large mama hen?
@@colene77 that's a hard call, but a certain percentage should exhibit of each of the parents traits. I would do some test breedings and hatches to see what you get.

@@CoturnixCornerPlease include whether you think the regular quail layers w/jumbo floor are actually roomy enough for jumbos. Would the 15” chicken or partridge cages be a better fit?
The quail layer w/jumbo floor is on sale now. Trying to decide if those are perfect for jumbos or should I get a taller layer.

@@scrapzwtf I'm using the standard quail cage with the partridge flooring, but I believe they now call that setup the Jumbo cage system. I would call HT and verify.

I do. Cages and individual units are numbered and quail get leg bands or zip ties.
Good morning and thank you for being such a great quail resource. I live in West Broward County and was wondering if you sell live birds. I'm just now finishing my cage and will be ready for some jumbos soon. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Not at this time, most of my live bird sales go to a local feed store. I may be offering breeding sets later in the year or early next year.

How do you determine when to butcher quail for personal consumption? Do you target a certain age in weeks or a certain weight?
New to quail. Can I run quail adults with the chickens which are totally contained in 60’ x 30’ run. Indoor nesting are is next to the yard.
Can you show us the bachelor finishing system?
Have you noticed a correlation between egg weight and adult weight? I've seen over a 3g variation in egg weight even within lines. It would be nice if you could select which eggs you want to incubate.
I select eggs that are around 14 - 16 grams so they fit the turners. I have not noticed a correlation with egg size and final weight.

In effect, you're already selecting on egg-weight (although for other reasons) yet you still get under-weight adults (as seen in your video).
In nature, you will always see some variation so selecting the "best" is the only way to move the polulation mean in the intended direction.

what the maximun for the Bantam size,,,...wanna know, ha a small rosette, that´s alot smaller then the oters, so thinkng of making a Bantam line for pet keepers, that want a small coturnix but not as small as a bottum quail.
Can you raise and house jumbo corturnix quail and standard coturnix quail together?
Is this weight chart for hens only? Or for both hens and roos? Our girls consistently finish at about 320-450gm. Their brothers range 275-320gm. Occasionally there is a monster boy at 350-400. Bigger boys are heavier on the girls when mounting, so naturally the lighter boys are more successful at mating.
Thanks for sharing! How about breed temprament? Does it vary by breed?
Temperament is something you can breed for. Some breeders lines are more aggressive than others, but with some selective breeding you can improve the line and the temperament. Color variety doesn't really make a difference. Some say that dotted whites are more aggressive, but it's not true, the dot on top of the head acts as a target and curious birds will peck at it. Once blood is drawn it becomes a free for all with the rest of the birds.
6 weeks?!? Wow my biggest us 274g at 12 weeks. Need to get different batch of eggs and start over i guess...

hi terry i have a hen with feathers miss on the lower back, would the rooster be doing that?
Most likely an overbred hen, totally normal. It could also be feather plucking if your birds are lacking in their diet. But, if you are feeding a nutritionally balanced feed I would think it is most likely breeding activity.

Do you have a chart or advice for breeding so that I don't breed siblings or parent/children. I find I get mixed up trying to not interbreed them.
I don't have a chart, but separating birds into cages by lineage will help you when it comes to selecting breeder sets. I do use cards on my cages so I know the parentage, age and origin of the growouts. Everyone has their own system for keeping track of their birds, you just need to come up with something that works for you.

Can we make jumbo quail breeder from same batch?
Yes, if there is more than one bloodline in the breeding group. If all are brothers and sisters I would use a different rooster from unrelated lines.
@@CoturnixCorner we have brown n white quail breed so can i use heavy brown female and white male to get jumpo quail?
@@rajriyaz9185 You would need to selectively breed multiple generations to have a true Jumbo line. It can be done with any color variety but may take some time.
