question: why don't you mix the high protein feed with the calcium so you get the benefit of both? thanks! This channel is a necessary source of info for quail farmers
So I followed your previous spacing recommendation, and the 3 whole quails are loving all their space, but the quail I had to cut in half doesn’t seem too happy, it never even moves anymore...maybe too crowded still?
hi ZACK DUNCAN from the been following you for a while , just watchd your vid on raising jumbos and standards and you mention calcium in their feed and using oyster shell would cuttlefish bone be just as good as they can be clippd too the inside of the cage for them too peck at plus helps too keep their beaks trimmed,i use it for my noisy parrakeet
I would like a video on how much light (not hours) they need. I have 2 solar lights I am using but don’t know if they are getting enough light from them.
Great videos! I've been watching quite a few of your videos on this snow day and reading up on your website. I hope to get quail this year. Thanks for sharing!
Great explanation. Thank you! Btw I'm going to email you a pic comparing some of my "Jumbo" eggs compared to the ones you guys shipped me. You guys are doing an awesome job with your jumbo eggs!
Do y'all keep feed in front of your jumbos all the time or do u regulate it? I am getting back into quail and have always full fed mine, but would like to give them exactly what they need and no more to cut feed costs.
Which breed of quail are the most profitable? We raise cortex quail in The Philippines. We raised them in much closer quarters than you do in America. We usually switch from grower to layer at the first eggs being laid. I will switch to your method and see if I have better results. Keeping the birds Beyond one year or 13-14 months was not profitable. Thank you for sharing, an e cel lent and informative video.
We had about 259 female quail on a slanted cage bottom. The eggs rolled forward. We had feed in a troth in the front and water in a troth in the back. We turned the lights on every afternoon before sundown. We kept a breed cage with a small number of male birds. We has a ratio of three hens to a cock. If we do it again we will go with one cock to six hens. We used a home made incubator heated by electric light bulbs and humidified by two l Pans of water. Quail right out of the shell seem to like water. I used fine gravel in a large water font to water the birds.
Our cages held 250 females and the cages were about 8 foot long and about 38 to 40 inches wide. The cages were about 12 to 16 high. I hope that provides the information that you are asking for.
Hi Zack what is your opinion regarding DIY layer cages vs Full set Galvanized layer cages purchased in AliBaba in bulk? Which one is more economical. Majority Chinese company sold minimum of 4 cages at least . A set of cage cost about $150. What is your opinion regarding this. Thank you. Have a great day.
A few questions if you can. Do you switch to layer feed for jumbos after week ten? How much feed does a jumbo eat per week vs a standard? Do you mix the oyster shell into the feed or does that go in a separate container? How much oyster shell per unit of feed? Thanks!
I would like to take some eggs back to the Philippines with me to hatch out.. mabey jumbo.. can you help me. with the eggs. and how to take them with me.. what papers I need for customs. thanks
This was great, thanks, I have been researching "marketing quail eggs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a google search ) ? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Other channel on UA-cam saying that the jumbo is just a marketing ploy. I would like to see the size difference of a full grown standard and a full grown jumbo. I am just getting into quail and still have lots to learn. Mine are said to be jumbos but it is hard to tell right now. I still haven't even taken them out of the incubator. Can't wait until the genetic videos.
@@MyshireFarm If they actually can hatch. Calcium doesn't need to be much more than 3% by weight. Simply save quail egg shells, bake off in 210* oven for 30 minutes and run through a food processor. I typically just sprinkle some on the feed. and don't experience those really hard shells.
@Myshire Farm, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, take some of your hard earned shekels and BUY a Lapel Mic!!! I love your videos, I've subscribed and dinged the little bell, HOWEVER, I'm SO TIRED of listening to you sound like you're talking from the end of a TUNNEL! Go to Amazon and you can pic up a beginners level Lapel Mic for about $20, or a decent one that might actually last, for about $40........the Lapel Mic would make your videos MONUMENTALLY better, because I wouldn't be straining to hear you speak! Thank you for your time.

Thanks for clarifying this size difference. I went searching for the answer and even 3 per sq foot is a great amount
Thanks for watching
Living Traditions Homestead sent me over
I'm glad they did I'm looking forward to getting into quail for the first time so need all the info I can get
Thanks for watching and hope we can help you on your journey
Can you mix jumbo and standard corturnix quail in an aviary?
Yes no problem at all.
So I followed your previous spacing recommendation, and the 3 whole quails are loving all their space, but the quail I had to cut in half doesn’t seem too happy, it never even moves anymore...maybe too crowded still?
🤦♂️😝
Freedom ForAll! The one died, next time I’ll try cutting it in half lengthwise instead of top/bottom...

Not necessary but would not hurt anything
I would like a video on how much light (not hours) they need. I have 2 solar lights I am using but don’t know if they are getting enough light from them.
If they are laying about 5 days a week they have enough light if they are not then probably need more

That’s great to hear. Good luck and if you need anything feel free to let me know
So what do you recommend for a beginner? Standard or jumbo?
Jumbos
@@MyshireFarm they’ll be just as easy to take care of? Thanks so much for the reply by the way!!
Which are quieter? Friendlier? We are looking for pets that give us eggs and want to keep them indoors.
The temperaments are all the same
Is it possible to successfully house jumbos and regulars together?
Yeah that would not be a problem at all.
How much oyster shells do you add to the feed? Thank you.
It will say on the bag
Is it not recommended to breed standards and jumbos together?
You can but very easy to lose the jumbo weight
why the smaller space for the bigger bird?.... are they less active or is it to minimixe ther burning of the food so they keep wight??
Both reasons
I have a question, where do you get crushed up oyster shells in OH? Im in AR, and I have no clue where to start. Tractor Supply?
Tractor supply supplies it
Which is more economical for the payout? Standard or jumbo? Feed +time = eggs and meat . Thanks.
Jumbo wilds by far
@@MyshireFarm thank you so much! How much room per jumbo? It sounded turned around in video. I might have misunderstood
What is a good calcium supplement causes i cant get oyster shell
I have only ever used oyster shells
Question. Can you make a video regarding how you grew your business/laws if any you had to follow?
Hard work, Dedication, not relying on someone to dream for you

Can regular colors also be jumbo?
Or is it just the browns that can be jumbo?
They can be but it takes a long time. To breed them true and have consistent weight
Fantastic content
I am a quail breeder from Indonesia, how can I get jumbo quail??? do you sell it
Thanks!!! Perfect!!!

We already have a video on what is a jumbo and it shows the size and weight difference between the two.
What about coturnix quails
Bravo
Do you wait until week ten to start incubating Jumbos eggs?
We start 10 days after they start laying
@@MyshireFarm Thanks for the reply. My first batch of Jumbos are at 4 weeks. Cant wait to get that first egg lol
Are Japanese cortunix the same as jumbo?
Jumbo are large coturnix quail. Here's a Myshire video explaining: ua-cam.com/video/n2vmhy1LzNc/v-deo.html
Don't the oyster shell cause thicker egg shells which are hard for chicks to break out of
Yes but chicks tend to be much heathier
