Hi. Im from the UK, and only discovered Larkin Poe in the last two weeks. But I've already decided this is a must see band, and booked tickets to catch them in London in October. Saw Alanis Morissette last year, but these two are something else. Should be a great night.
Good choice. I've seen LP twice in Brussels and I'm waiting for my third show in october. I can assure you that you won't be disapointed. And you know what? In addition to being extraordinary showgirls with over the top music, they are incredibly friendly. What more can you expect?
another killer set. These people are so natural, it just flows. Surely they must have opened for Tedeschi/Trucks by now(?), they're a good fit. Great stuff,
Thank you John!! Excellent quality that does this fabulous show justice!! Saw these gals in San Francisco in Feb this year and they kick serious ass live!! You sure do get around to some serious shows my Man!! The Struts are next on my journey thru your uploads!!! Keep on rockin!!
The dream Team! That giant guy on the drums, that bearded guy on the bass and the magic sisters, i love it! Looking sooo forward to their visit in germany!
Dear Melinda ,If I had my whole live to life again - I would to spend all my day to meet you again ,just for our past view days you showed me a live that i could not meet without Love this days was the whole 63 jears wearth for that fantastic LOVe
There are a lot of high level bands/players, just not so much in the mainstream channels. Kock Marshal Trio (one of the greatest guitar player both in talent and stature :) ). Gov't Mule, Tedeshi Trucks, Dirty Loops, Aristocrats, The Winery Dogs, Carolyn Wonderland etc.
@@VoxTone2009 There are some, but just not many. Rival Sons and Joe Bonamassa are two other ones. I'm familiar with some of those bands, but what sets Larkin Poe apart is songwriting and especially the use of the lap steel guitar. They also get into classic blues like Son House with their own flavor and flair that most don't do.
@@audiophileman7047 Carolyn Wonderland uses lap steel on some songs. She was John Mayalls guitarist for a while. Really good guitarist and singer in her style. Koch Marshall Trio, The Whinery Dog and the Aristocrats along with Dirty loops are on a whole other level than Larkin Poe or Joe Bonamassa. Pretty much the absolute top musicians in their genre. Also, Gov't Mule is also on a whole other level. Larkin Poe is good but not close to the top musician wise.
@@VoxTone2009 Of the bands you mentioned, Carolyn Wonderland is the only band that's making the kind of music Larkin Poe makes. Larkin Poe is a blues, blues rock, country, and American Roots music band. The bands you mentioned are in a different category focusing on hard rock, jazz, R&B, and prog rock. Carolyn Wonderland is a great artist, and I really like her music, but LP writes great lyrics and song hooks with some great sound from the lap steel guitar on every one of their songs. I also like LP's vocals and harmonies. There's only one other artist performing blues and blues rock that gets it for me. His name is Tab Benoit. Tab is a very good singer and get's some killer Louisiana Swamp Blues out of his Fender Thinline Tele.
@@audiophileman7047 Gov't mule and Koch Marshall trio does blues and blues rock too on some songs. Tedeshi Trucks band too. One of the greatest slide guitar players in Derek and band is phenomenal. Anyway, I don't limit my listening to one style. Way to limiting for me. Good music to me comes in every genre, almost at least, and some of the best music happens when there is crossover.
The music is from Link Wray's 1958 classic song called Rumble. It's an excellent instrumental song that inspired many great British guitarists like Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend. It's an easy song to play on guitar for you beginning guitarists. 🎸🎸🎸
@@georgrittel4243 Cheers, Georg, it's hard to imagine a life without music. That would be very dreary indeed. Rumble is one of the first songs I learned to play all the way through on guitar. I may have mentioned Rumble to the sisters in one of my comments. Regardless, it was a delight to hear it between their songs during this show. 👍👍👍
Yes, they could. I've wondered the same thing many times. They could play one verse and segue in to one of their songs in the same key. I think this would be quite appropriate, given all the killer cover songs they do online (but not in their live shows).
Hey Y'all...what does everyone think if Megan and Rebecca started using wireless head mics, so they weren't tethered to a mic stand. Easier for Megan, because she doesn't change her guitar ...could be an issue for RebL since she changes so often. What do you think?
Since they visited Telefunken they sound better than before (according to my old ears). Maybe Toni Fishman equipped them with his expensive goodies. Got to have a close look when they will be playing in Hamburg. (Can't wait for them to return to the old continent.) Preaching the Blues: I'm sure that some day they'll return to university, get a PhD and teach the history of American music. Women in Rock: I wonder if Rebecca knows about the short circuit from her via her husband to Dany Villarreal, another excellent showwoman at the guitar. Dany and her band opened for Tyler Bryant and his band at the "Mother of all Rockfestivals" in 2017.
@@georgrittel4243 As you mentioned Hamburg, you will understand German. Here is the German version of Preachin' Blues, performed by my former Duo and heavily influenced by Larkin Poe: ua-cam.com/video/h5x3NALizKA/v-deo.html
@@georgrittel4243 - Hey Georg, I've been wondering if Tyler remembers The Warning too. Because they have said they remember the Shakedown in more than one interview.
@@genboyer Haha, we should ask him. But he never appeared in Germany so far. Funny, because this year I had the opportunity to greet his Texan "neighbor" Ally Venable for the second time. Tyler has to keep up. (NB: Ally is a very nice person.)
Great concert . The band has improved a great deal in just a couple months with the new drummer. The only down point Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues was a meandering mess . They seem to be trying to integrate the new drummer and that is the only tune they seem to be having problems with .
@virgilmoldovan175 What Am I Talking about? . Check out the difference Between the performance of Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues with the previous drummer Kevin McGowan. Metronome precision expert sub division . In the pocket and in sink with the Lovell sisters of Larkin Poe . The old drummer was Ringo Starr level of proffesional . The new guy isn't. He doesn't have to be to play anything else on the play list and does a fantasic job and is doing better nearly every show . He is clearly not up to doing that one song to the old standard so they should drop it on the concert playlist then no one would really notice the new drummer is not as good as the old one .
@@paulalbamonte4756 Hi all, Lewiston was my first-ever Larkin Poe concert and I loved it. Having said that, don't have a benchmark against which to compare the new drummer. Nonetheless, I loved that extended version of BBBB. Quick question: What happened to their old drummer?
@derekmccracken4343 Kevin McGowan I believe is a classically trained Berkeley graduate that seems to still play with the band only when they are home in Nashville. He stopped turing and travelling. So he likely into producing and the business end of the business possible strictly a studio performer, possibly raising a new family. I wish him the best of everything. Larkin Poe is still the best live performers touring today . Very much the leaders of the new wave of roots American music like the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Rhianna Giddens was in the last wave . They did perform together sometime around the New Basement Tapes project where the Lovell Sisters performed background on some of the recordings I think .
