Great vid! I love Marvel Cosmic, but the full spectrum of it is so complex, I often forget bits of it. Great to have a good succinct reference. Of course now we have a new Elder of the Universe, The Challenger, from the most recent Mark Waid Avengers run!

Put this here b/c I pulled my most recent video down to correct some minor mistakes I've found upon further digging. It might work for the limited audience I have at the moment but as the channel continues to grow I don't want to have to keep coming back to the comments to address those issues. Carnage Vol 2 issue #14 towards the end of issue refers to Chthon as an Old One (although reading into it this is debated and may be due to the Darkhold contextualizing things) - "Greatest of the Old Ones who ruled this pebble before time was our God . . . Cthon..." Now that I'm looking back through the series I do remember reading it as it came out. My best suggestion if you like both Wanda and Cthon is to check out The Evolutionary War. Cthon comes into play and it gives the background on Wanda's birth. As far as Set goes anything I've covered to date in my Saga of the Serpent Crown series is good which takes the story up to Atlantis Attacks (also the whole history of the crown is related in an abbreviated form in the back pages of the Atlantis Attacks story arc). Both Atlantis Attacks and The Evolutionary War are late 80's Annual Crossover Events. For a great history on the Darkhold and to a lesser extent Chthon check out Marvel Zombies The Book of Angels Deoms & Various Monstrosities. I'm not the best source on Shuma-Gorath. Outside of the Cancerverse arc and Sise-Neg I just remember the name and have always thought of the villain being most closely associated with the Sorcerer Supreme. Found the following in Marvel Zombies: The Book of Angels Demons Various Monstrosities page under the Demons entry "The archetypal Old Ones are Cthulu and Shuma-Gorath, the latter of whom preyed on humanity in prehistory before being banished form Earth. Various Old Ones have existed on or been summoned to Earth in the past, though most of them were eventually slain or driven off. Despite some common elements in origin, there is no evidence that the Old Ones are of one race. A similar group, the Ancients may be contemporary with or even a sub-set of the Old Ones. One thing I find about modern Marvel is that Elder Gods/Old Ones got mixed-used a lot. In Invaders Now! Shuma-Gorath was called "an Elder God." which is knda confusing. Lore digging is always fun, thanks for sharing it with those amzing videos!
You could be right about the Avengers. The bit with the Annuals might be one of the MANY retellings of that birthing but with a few changes in details. It seems like every time I go to look up something about those twins another twist has been added to their origin story. Yep, some of the authors/editors definitely need to brush up before putting pen to paper. Names Jonathan Hickman, he has actually written some realy good stuff. Thing is that marvel panned to reboot and we’re going to use the avengers and new avengers story where that took place to do it, in the end they just didn’t. Still in a story like that the living tribunal has to be removed from the picture because if he could stop it he would never let something like that happen. So they killed him off. Brought him back along with everything else but still.

Great new episode!! I love your channel, been watching for a while now. Your efforts have gotten me into basically all of the stories and characters that you have covered on your channel. Just picked up issues of Quasar and a Celestial arc from Thor, and two annuals with parts of Saga of the Serpent Crown earlier today. Thanks for doing this!
That is so awesome to hear!! The Quasar run is incredible and I never thought it would take more more than two years to fill in all the gaps between issue #1 and #2! I haven't even got to talk about Captain Marvel, his predecessor yet! Maelstrom and Deathurge's earlier appearances will also have to be discussed. I also need to make the move on the Atlantis Attacks storyline and the Squadron Supreme limited series. All the while working up to the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions. In the end it all ties together. This latest series is a break being used to layout the framework of who is who and where the major players stand. I just got to a point where I felt I needed to explain a few things without delving deep into the story arcs the way I love doing. Much of the humor and fun at pointing put the flaws will return once I get back around to covering individual story arcs. Some suggestions if you can pick up the full series off of eBay (or read them on Marvel Unlimited) The Eternals 2006 and 2008 series (both great Celestial storylines and the one pretty much picks up where the other left off but gives you everything you wanted that the first one lacked plus better artwork). Read the Original Eternals series by Jack Kirby first if you can albeit about halfway through it loses steam. The first 10-15 issues of Quasar starts out a little weak but by issue 25 your heart will be broken. After that it stays good but it gets muddled up due to crossovers for a bit (Glactic Storm and Infinity Gauntlet). Some issues of that series what you learn on the letter pages can be some of the juciest bits and the issues with artwork done by Greg Capullo are fantastic (of Spawn and Batman fame and so much more). Now something very interesting is that looking at the lore from Doom eternal. It explains a lot about hell and the realm's attached to it. As it was a holy realm that fell on theternal quest for ever living life. Over bazillions of jears it transformed into what it is now. It is like a gigantic cancer swallowing worlds into its bowels.
Now we have the daughter of the Grandmaster (I forget her name). Similar to promotion I think. She's pretty powerful too, and has recently helped earth's heroes (Immortal Hulk, Scarlett Witch, Conan, Hawkeye, etc) battle against Nyx, a goddess of darkness from Greek mythology. I mentioned this before, The 12 billion year old warrior, Gaara, received her cosmic power from this mirror. The Black mirror. I believe that's the name of it. She was featured in a GotG x X Men story arc. Great story btw. Beast, Kitty Pride, Angel, and Gamora used the mirror and received the power cosmic. Sorry, I just really enjoyed that story. There is an offshoot of the Watchers in which one appeared in a She-Hulk comics. He had appeared like a movie director influencing events. Which appears to be the difference between both groups.
You're definitely right. His videos are great, and are full of correct info. I really know my Marvel history. New, old, ret cons, etc. But, he's starting to surpass me in Marvel knowledge.
I am very new to marvel comics and just read The Thanos Quest prelude to infinity gauntlet, in which at least five elders are said to have harnessed some power from the soul gems(aka infinity gems). Was that ret-conned for that story or was the gems always the source of the elders powers?
As far as I know the Elders are tapped into the power cosmic. There are thousands of elders - many gain a additional powers over their long lives. It seems they most likely tapped into additional powers from the soul gems. But I have not read the most recent Infinity run. The elders gained their immunity from death when the Game Master challenges death while in her domain and wins the challenge. I have yet to cover this story but it's on my list.

This is an awsome explanation and insight.. of course these are all eternal beings who i often view as useless in any comic book world not just Marvel but almost necessary due to the multiplicity of the super "beings" in the marvel universe... interesting enough i always asked about how Hercules, Thor, Beta Ray bill, the Juggernaut's Cytorak. I also know that other Gods & Eternal beings as well as other externalities escape me. But what of a being like Thanos almost who almost embodies all of the decay and death beings. nevertheless Mephisto, Dormamu, and others. I was thinking maybe they need to produce a GRAPHX-NOVEL NO TPB Clarification WITH RELATION OR THEY REMAIN just randomalities. the have no continuous interest when they're in fact interesting. Maybe these beings would have a greater impact on the reader if they related to the super character or non duper character differently..like the one above all to spidey or the Beyonder to people in general as somewhat self absorbed or just plain jerks on the bases on how he dressed..
This is a big ? mark in MCU right now. Maybe because of the rules they laid out for who could handle the gems in Guardian's 1. If I ever get far enough along to discuss things like Inifnity Guantlet - would love to discuss some of the things the MCU threw out the window (like the established history that only 1 item in each multiverse could unite the stones. Thus, building a new gauntlet never should have worked). Its part of the excitement and frustration of any adaptation. But more than anything I love seeing people excited about Marvel.

Oh no. I usually try to do a good job of documenting my work. More so over time. But admittedly, this video had been in the works for so long and pulled from so many resources at some point I lost track. If there is a particular section let me know and I will see what I can come up with.
I dont get it. I thought at the dawn of everything was the 1st firmament, who then created beings who split in two groups, one being the aspirants and the other being the celestials? wouldn't the builders be a celestial or aspirant creation?. Also what about the higher dimensional beyonders? who created them? Marvel needs to sort out its plot holes.
As far as we know the First Firmament created the Celestials. We don't know why the Celestials split into two groups (leading the the Celestial War). It seems likely that the colored Celestials chose their colors as a way to differentiate themselves and/or a form of self expression. But until somebody writes the story we just don' know. The Builders are from the Earth-616 Universe. They and the Watchers claim to be the oldest species in the universe. I read the story as they were the earliest species to gain sentience and spread throughout the Universe (so no Aspirant or Celestial needed). Both they and the Watchers initially chose to try to shape the future of other species. IWe know that Galactus and the Celestials were carried over from the previous iteration of the multiverse. The Beyonders are on a higher order and exist outside of the Multiverse which is why I haven't covered them yet as I'm still moving my way up the food chain on this series. I've taken a break from this one to focus on plot driven videos that are closer to be being wrapped up. Marvel is slowly working through many of the plot holes. And its pretty amazing that we can put together as much as history as we can. Some of these stories - Marvel readers have been waiting more than 50 years to get answers on. Some of these things, these answers are out there but they are spread across many comics and can be hard to put together. And yes, occasionally there are some "errors" that get swept under the rug. Hopefully I can continue to answer some of these questions as I move forward with this exploration of all things cosmic in the Marvel Universe.
If I remember correctly, the Celestials place their seed at the center of a planet, in order for them to reproduce. As the planet developes, so does the Celestial child. Perhaps Ego was one of those seeds, but instead of becoming a normal Celestial, he spread to the entire planet. There is nothing that i've read in the older comics (I quit collecting 15 years ago) that would indicate Ego was an Elder, I seem to remember that he is slightly older than Earth.
This is from the the most recent Ultimates series. There are two volumes. Both are great. I recommend reading both. Watch out as to make things more confusing there are two different Ultimates series. This is not the series with Cap, Thor, etc.
The Volume that started in 2016. I think it is just called The Ultimates. It continues in The Ultimates 2 where the two is put in the "squared" position. Yeah, I just looked back over The Ultimates and there are more than i remembered. What an absolute mess! This is the problem with rebooting every series ever 12-24 months so they can cash in on a new #1.
The MCU & James Gunn named him as a Celestial in the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 but compared to who the Celestials are in the comics that doesn't make much sense. In the comics the Celestials existed prior to all known iterations of the multiverse (hence their origins with the First Firmament). I personally wouldn't consider Ego an Elder either but since the group is self-referential they can invite anybody they like to join their private party. I think calling Ego either/or just makes the definition of both of them more confusing.
ego would have been a celestial. he is simply a brain, right? My best guess would be that he-ego-was the brain of a celestial. plus we're never -really-shown that all of the celestials are dead. Simply that they aren't around anymore. I have found myself inclined to believe things like, maybe ego was the brain that used to occupy the knowhere head, when he still had a celestial body
Ego is Celestial in MCU... Elder in Comics... According to MCU, Celestials are brain like beings able to manipulate matter and energy around them... While most celestials made a giant humanoid body proportional to their brain size like the Eson the searcher (shown using the power stone by Collector) and the severed head (Knowhere), Ego built a planet around him...
I could've swore Galactus or the Supreme Intelligence (billions of minds of dead Kree) had something to do with Ego, or Jason, or Star Lord's pop lol. Marvel can be confusing sometimes. I remember when Thor and Galactus kicked Ego's ass too. Ego's powerful in his own right. More powerful than his "moon".

Arishem the Judge decides after a given point if a civilization lives or dies. Scathan the Approver is more like an arbitrator or judge for the Celestials and may approve or disapprove of certain situations.
To be in elder of the universe I don't think you just have to be a survivor of your planet to be one, like ego and The stranger you can be the only one to ever exist.
Yeah, it's there club and they can invite in whomever they want. I've revisited Ego (personally, not with a video) since putting out this video - he is the last surviving member of his species who was transformed into the Living Planet by the Stranger (who also created Alter Ego). I will touch on correcting these mistakes when I get around to doing a video on Ego's origins.

I recall the Stranger standing with Galactus, Epoch, a celestial a watcher and a bunch of other cosmic entities in the first issue of Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Wouldn't that make him an integral part of the cosmic hierarchy. I not sure if he actually an elder. I also thought he was integral with the way time works in the universe. I could be wrong about his power and position but he was there when the Living Tribunal convince Adam Warlock to give up the Infinity Cauntlet
For sure the Stranger shows up at many pivotal moments but much as his name suggest his place within the larger picture is obscured. Would love some references on the time bit. One of the biggest problems with this character is he is an unreliable narrator - things he has told us about himself we have later discovered to be a lie - so any reliable information about him needs to come from an outside source. A bunch of telepaths were being kidnapped, of course this would include Professor X and jean Grey, and they were all put in this machine that would manipulate time. Wait are galactus and the other cosmic entities that work on a universal scale still technically considered multiversal? For example eternity, the highest universal being in the 616 universe, is expressly tied to the 616 universe. Is he still considered multiversal since he IS the universe
Glalactus exist across more than one version of Eternity (he started in the previous.... well technically 2x previous now). Eternity is the multiverse. When a new multiverse is born we get a new Eternity (ok, last time was weird and all of it gets an asterisk that will be Secret Wars). I have been meaning to do a follow up going further up the ladder but over the last 2 years Marvel has been messing with its Cosmic Hierarchy and I've been waiting for the dust to settle before doing the next installment in this series.
First firmament, having existed across multiple iterations of the multiverse will be covered further up the ladder. I go into a little more detail in my video on Oblivion but the pages shown here comprise most of what we know (which isnt much).

I think it's whatever they choose. The obsession helps them live longer by giving their lives purpose. It could be possible to have two who share the same obsession but we haven't seen that yet.
It's going to happen but I've got a lot of ground to cover. Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, Kree-Skrull War and Atlantis Attacks will be getting the spotlight first. But know that I will have to cover Galactus before moving forward any further on The Grandmaster's storyline as I eventually plan to cover the story arc where the Elders of Universe attempt to kill Galactus. I don't think you have to have an obsession to be an elder... some have obsessions other don't they are still elders and able to tap into the primordial.
Not certain... its one of those requirements that has seemed to drop off as Marvel ages but when a new one is introduced as such right off the bat (such as the issue of Quasar where several are introduced at once) they usually have an obsession. I was taking this from the Collector attributing his long life to his obsession and the following quote from the Grandmaster - "Brothers -- we are the oldest living beings in the Universe! Our respective races were the first to form after the grand detonation ended whatever reality existed prior to that point, and began this one! Everyone else who grew with us on those first worlds is long since dead! We alone survive -- and so we call ourselves 'Brothers,' though we have only longevity in common! The secret of our continued existence has been our abiding interest in one specific aspect of life! I gamble, The Possessor catalogues knowledge, The Gardener cultivates beauty --" So, this is at least two elders with that viewpoint - albeit in a few more panels it's shown that Ego the Living Planet is also considered one of their ranks. So, maybe not always, but Marvel has definitely muddied the waters with it.
To ummm.... just add to that. The Grandmaster goes on to say "Our interest have kept us alive until now." This takes place in the same issue right before he explains his deal with Death. So perhaps after his deal with Death whereby she bars the Elders from her realm an obsession was no longer required. But that's a long road for any of them to walk up to that point. It may be coming. Eternals project is happening. Celestials have been brought up several times. The Elders are already present. All the seeds are there. Now we watch and wait to see what they do with it. (Black) Goliath and Klaw are present and could be a signal of Project Pegasus showing up.
Maybe, my guess is that Ego will be put on hold for awhile but has the potential to show up a movie several years out (that way it's a much better surprise). I think its much more likely that we will see the Celestials and wouldn't be surprised if most of the plot revolved around them.
In answer to the first question - they could but we don't know. Either way it appears as though Celestials in the MCU may not be the same as Celestials within the Comics so I don't know. At some point I will be doing an in depth video on the Celestials within the comics but it's probably a ways off. Got Captain Marvel to do, Atlantis Attacks, and eventually dive back into Quasar before getting around to Celestials.

Put this here b/c I pulled my most recent video down to correct some minor mistakes I've found upon further digging. It might work for the limited audience I have at the moment but as the channel continues to grow I don't want to have to keep coming back to the comments to address those issues.
Carnage Vol 2 issue #14 towards the end of issue refers to Chthon as an Old One (although reading into it this is debated and may be due to the Darkhold contextualizing things) - "Greatest of the Old Ones who ruled this pebble before time was our God . . . Cthon..." Now that I'm looking back through the series I do remember reading it as it came out.
My best suggestion if you like both Wanda and Cthon is to check out The Evolutionary War. Cthon comes into play and it gives the background on Wanda's birth. As far as Set goes anything I've covered to date in my Saga of the Serpent Crown series is good which takes the story up to Atlantis Attacks (also the whole history of the crown is related in an abbreviated form in the back pages of the Atlantis Attacks story arc).
Both Atlantis Attacks and The Evolutionary War are late 80's Annual Crossover Events.
For a great history on the Darkhold and to a lesser extent Chthon check out Marvel Zombies The Book of Angels Deoms & Various Monstrosities.
I'm not the best source on Shuma-Gorath. Outside of the Cancerverse arc and Sise-Neg I just remember the name and have always thought of the villain being most closely associated with the Sorcerer Supreme.

One thing I find about modern Marvel is that Elder Gods/Old Ones got mixed-used a lot.
In Invaders Now! Shuma-Gorath was called "an Elder God." which is knda confusing.

Names Jonathan Hickman, he has actually written some realy good stuff. Thing is that marvel panned to reboot and we’re going to use the avengers and new avengers story where that took place to do it, in the end they just didn’t. Still in a story like that the living tribunal has to be removed from the picture because if he could stop it he would never let something like that happen. So they killed him off. Brought him back along with everything else but still.

Great new episode!! I love your channel, been watching for a while now. Your efforts have gotten me into basically all of the stories and characters that you have covered on your channel. Just picked up issues of Quasar and a Celestial arc from Thor, and two annuals with parts of Saga of the Serpent Crown earlier today. Thanks for doing this!
That is so awesome to hear!! The Quasar run is incredible and I never thought it would take more more than two years to fill in all the gaps between issue #1 and #2! I haven't even got to talk about Captain Marvel, his predecessor yet! Maelstrom and Deathurge's earlier appearances will also have to be discussed. I also need to make the move on the Atlantis Attacks storyline and the Squadron Supreme limited series. All the while working up to the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions. In the end it all ties together. This latest series is a break being used to layout the framework of who is who and where the major players stand. I just got to a point where I felt I needed to explain a few things without delving deep into the story arcs the way I love doing. Much of the humor and fun at pointing put the flaws will return once I get back around to covering individual story arcs. Some suggestions if you can pick up the full series off of eBay (or read them on Marvel Unlimited) The Eternals 2006 and 2008 series (both great Celestial storylines and the one pretty much picks up where the other left off but gives you everything you wanted that the first one lacked plus better artwork). Read the Original Eternals series by Jack Kirby first if you can albeit about halfway through it loses steam. The first 10-15 issues of Quasar starts out a little weak but by issue 25 your heart will be broken. After that it stays good but it gets muddled up due to crossovers for a bit (Glactic Storm and Infinity Gauntlet). Some issues of that series what you learn on the letter pages can be some of the juciest bits and the issues with artwork done by Greg Capullo are fantastic (of Spawn and Batman fame and so much more). Thanks for watching! Comments like yours make my day and are what drive me to continue making content! It's crazy to watch a channel grow from one sub or less per week to one a day. Now something very interesting is that looking at the lore from Doom eternal. It explains a lot about hell and the realm's attached to it. As it was a holy realm that fell on theternal quest for ever living life. Over bazillions of jears it transformed into what it is now. It is like a gigantic cancer swallowing worlds into its bowels.

Now we have the daughter of the Grandmaster (I forget her name). Similar to promotion I think. She's pretty powerful too, and has recently helped earth's heroes (Immortal Hulk, Scarlett Witch, Conan, Hawkeye, etc) battle against Nyx, a goddess of darkness from Greek mythology.
I mentioned this before, The 12 billion year old warrior, Gaara, received her cosmic power from this mirror. The Black mirror. I believe that's the name of it. She was featured in a GotG x X Men story arc. Great story btw. Beast, Kitty Pride, Angel, and Gamora used the mirror and received the power cosmic. Sorry, I just really enjoyed that story.

There is an offshoot of the Watchers in which one appeared in a She-Hulk comics. He had appeared like a movie director influencing events. Which appears to be the difference between both groups.

I am very new to marvel comics and just read The Thanos Quest prelude to infinity gauntlet, in which at least five elders are said to have harnessed some power from the soul gems(aka infinity gems). Was that ret-conned for that story or was the gems always the source of the elders powers?
As far as I know the Elders are tapped into the power cosmic. There are thousands of elders - many gain a additional powers over their long lives. It seems they most likely tapped into additional powers from the soul gems. But I have not read the most recent Infinity run. The elders gained their immunity from death when the Game Master challenges death while in her domain and wins the challenge. I have yet to cover this story but it's on my list.

This is an awsome explanation and insight.. of course these are all eternal beings who i often view as useless in any comic book world not just Marvel but almost necessary due to the multiplicity of the super "beings" in the marvel universe... interesting enough i always asked about how Hercules, Thor, Beta Ray bill, the Juggernaut's Cytorak. I also know that other Gods & Eternal beings as well as other externalities escape me. But what of a being like Thanos almost who almost embodies all of the decay and death beings. nevertheless Mephisto, Dormamu, and others. I was thinking maybe they need to produce a GRAPHX-NOVEL NO TPB Clarification WITH RELATION OR THEY REMAIN just randomalities. the have no continuous interest when they're in fact interesting. Maybe these beings would have a greater impact on the reader if they related to the super character or non duper character differently..like the one above all to spidey or the Beyonder to people in general as somewhat self absorbed or just plain jerks on the bases on how he dressed..

This is a big ? mark in MCU right now. Maybe because of the rules they laid out for who could handle the gems in Guardian's 1.
If I ever get far enough along to discuss things like Inifnity Guantlet - would love to discuss some of the things the MCU threw out the window (like the established history that only 1 item in each multiverse could unite the stones. Thus, building a new gauntlet never should have worked). Its part of the excitement and frustration of any adaptation. But more than anything I love seeing people excited about Marvel.

Ego doesn't lack obsession in the movies he is obsessed with populated the entire universe with his seed so he can control everything
I dont get it. I thought at the dawn of everything was the 1st firmament, who then created beings who split in two groups, one being the aspirants and the other being the celestials? wouldn't the builders be a celestial or aspirant creation?. Also what about the higher dimensional beyonders? who created them? Marvel needs to sort out its plot holes.
As far as we know the First Firmament created the Celestials. We don't know why the Celestials split into two groups (leading the the Celestial War). It seems likely that the colored Celestials chose their colors as a way to differentiate themselves and/or a form of self expression. But until somebody writes the story we just don' know.
The Builders are from the Earth-616 Universe. They and the Watchers claim to be the oldest species in the universe. I read the story as they were the earliest species to gain sentience and spread throughout the Universe (so no Aspirant or Celestial needed). Both they and the Watchers initially chose to try to shape the future of other species. IWe know that Galactus and the Celestials were carried over from the previous iteration of the multiverse.
The Beyonders are on a higher order and exist outside of the Multiverse which is why I haven't covered them yet as I'm still moving my way up the food chain on this series. I've taken a break from this one to focus on plot driven videos that are closer to be being wrapped up.
Marvel is slowly working through many of the plot holes. And its pretty amazing that we can put together as much as history as we can. Some of these stories - Marvel readers have been waiting more than 50 years to get answers on. Some of these things, these answers are out there but they are spread across many comics and can be hard to put together. And yes, occasionally there are some "errors" that get swept under the rug. Hopefully I can continue to answer some of these questions as I move forward with this exploration of all things cosmic in the Marvel Universe.
If I remember correctly, the Celestials place their seed at the center of a planet, in order for them to reproduce. As the planet developes, so does the Celestial child. Perhaps Ego was one of those seeds, but instead of becoming a normal Celestial, he spread to the entire planet.
There is nothing that i've read in the older comics (I quit collecting 15 years ago) that would indicate Ego was an Elder, I seem to remember that he is slightly older than Earth.

This is from the the most recent Ultimates series. There are two volumes. Both are great. I recommend reading both. Watch out as to make things more confusing there are two different Ultimates series. This is not the series with Cap, Thor, etc.

The Volume that started in 2016. I think it is just called The Ultimates. It continues in The Ultimates 2 where the two is put in the "squared" position.

I thought Ego was the Celestials. But base of this explainations he is the Elders.
The MCU & James Gunn named him as a Celestial in the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 but compared to who the Celestials are in the comics that doesn't make much sense. In the comics the Celestials existed prior to all known iterations of the multiverse (hence their origins with the First Firmament). I personally wouldn't consider Ego an Elder either but since the group is self-referential they can invite anybody they like to join their private party. I think calling Ego either/or just makes the definition of both of them more confusing.

To be in elder of the universe I don't think you just have to be a survivor of your planet to be one, like ego and The stranger you can be the only one to ever exist.
Yeah, it's there club and they can invite in whomever they want. I've revisited Ego (personally, not with a video) since putting out this video - he is the last surviving member of his species who was transformed into the Living Planet by the Stranger (who also created Alter Ego). I will touch on correcting these mistakes when I get around to doing a video on Ego's origins.

I recall the Stranger standing with Galactus, Epoch, a celestial a watcher and a bunch of other cosmic entities in the first issue of Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Wouldn't that make him an integral part of the cosmic hierarchy. I not sure if he actually an elder. I also thought he was integral with the way time works in the universe. I could be wrong about his power and position but he was there when the Living Tribunal convince Adam Warlock to give up the Infinity Cauntlet
For sure the Stranger shows up at many pivotal moments but much as his name suggest his place within the larger picture is obscured. Would love some references on the time bit. One of the biggest problems with this character is he is an unreliable narrator - things he has told us about himself we have later discovered to be a lie - so any reliable information about him needs to come from an outside source. @@Cosmic.Comics I apologize about the time thing with the stranger. I realize it was from a cartoon, which I believe to be an X-men cartoon because of the content. A bunch of telepaths were being kidnapped, of course this would include Professor X and jean Grey, and they were all put in this machine that would manipulate time. I believe it was stranger in the middle of the machine.

Wait are galactus and the other cosmic entities that work on a universal scale still technically considered multiversal? For example eternity, the highest universal being in the 616 universe, is expressly tied to the 616 universe. Is he still considered multiversal since he IS the universe
Glalactus exist across more than one version of Eternity (he started in the previous.... well technically 2x previous now). Eternity is the multiverse. When a new multiverse is born we get a new Eternity (ok, last time was weird and all of it gets an asterisk that will be Secret Wars). I have been meaning to do a follow up going further up the ladder but over the last 2 years Marvel has been messing with its Cosmic Hierarchy and I've been waiting for the dust to settle before doing the next installment in this series.
No First Firmament detail though?
First firmament, having existed across multiple iterations of the multiverse will be covered further up the ladder. I go into a little more detail in my video on Oblivion but the pages shown here comprise most of what we know (which isnt much).

I think it's whatever they choose. The obsession helps them live longer by giving their lives purpose. It could be possible to have two who share the same obsession but we haven't seen that yet.

I'm thinking that the Stranger is much like Galactus but is the survivor of many prior universes.
I remember a silver surfer story where the Living Tribunal said that if he has a fourth face, it would be the Stranger. Possibly denoting randomness?

It's going to happen but I've got a lot of ground to cover. Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, Kree-Skrull War and Atlantis Attacks will be getting the spotlight first. But know that I will have to cover Galactus before moving forward any further on The Grandmaster's storyline as I eventually plan to cover the story arc where the Elders of Universe attempt to kill Galactus. Some many things to cover - my list of vids to do is well over 200 and growing.

I don't think you have to have an obsession to be an elder... some have obsessions other don't they are still elders and able to tap into the primordial.
Not certain... its one of those requirements that has seemed to drop off as Marvel ages but when a new one is introduced as such right off the bat (such as the issue of Quasar where several are introduced at once) they usually have an obsession. I was taking this from the Collector attributing his long life to his obsession and the following quote from the Grandmaster - "Brothers -- we are the oldest living beings in the Universe! Our respective races were the first to form after the grand detonation ended whatever reality existed prior to that point, and began this one! Everyone else who grew with us on those first worlds is long since dead! We alone survive -- and so we call ourselves 'Brothers,' though we have only longevity in common! The secret of our continued existence has been our abiding interest in one specific aspect of life! I gamble, The Possessor catalogues knowledge, The Gardener cultivates beauty --" So, this is at least two elders with that viewpoint - albeit in a few more panels it's shown that Ego the Living Planet is also considered one of their ranks. So, maybe not always, but Marvel has definitely muddied the waters with it.
To ummm.... just add to that. The Grandmaster goes on to say "Our interest have kept us alive until now." This takes place in the same issue right before he explains his deal with Death. So perhaps after his deal with Death whereby she bars the Elders from her realm an obsession was no longer required. But that's a long road for any of them to walk up to that point. It may be coming. Eternals project is happening. Celestials have been brought up several times. The Elders are already present. All the seeds are there. Now we watch and wait to see what they do with it. (Black) Goliath and Klaw are present and could be a signal of Project Pegasus showing up.
Maybe, my guess is that Ego will be put on hold for awhile but has the potential to show up a movie several years out (that way it's a much better surprise). I think its much more likely that we will see the Celestials and wouldn't be surprised if most of the plot revolved around them.
In answer to the first question - they could but we don't know. Either way it appears as though Celestials in the MCU may not be the same as Celestials within the Comics so I don't know. At some point I will be doing an in depth video on the Celestials within the comics but it's probably a ways off. Got Captain Marvel to do, Atlantis Attacks, and eventually dive back into Quasar before getting around to Celestials.
