they never explained what this ship was and why it was able to overide the controls of other ships.

Soo, by the description of that cutscene, the Kadeshi went from escaped prisoners to pirates to religious fanatics whose religion was essentially piracy... ookay then. Still one of my favorite sets of missions in Homeworld 1.
Also... that ghost ship. Pesky as hell, but hilarious the first time I met it, when it tried to steal one of my ion cannon frigates while I was using all heavy corvettes against the ghost ship itself. XD
People believe what makes them feel good about the bad they do.
I can do this because a book written by man said it is ok.

The Derelict will actually take over your lager vessels, so you involuntarily did the right thing by attacking it with fighters/bombers.
What I normally do in this mission is to lure away the enemy ships and then attack their Flagship. After it takes a certain amount of damage you get all the ships it controlled so it's best to spare them at first.

The ghost ship is still one of my favorite parts of the game.
Old as hell, hacks ships with its crazy wifi, indestructible, no idea what it really is or where it came from.
Yep. Still one of my favorite memories from playing classic Homeworld 1. I called it the Space Hacker Great-grandpa when I first discovered its ability.
I got an interesting version when I encountered it the first time. It had about 20 assult frigate. It ended up sending in around 30 bombers and managed to save all of the ships. I then spent the rest of the game with 20 frigates over cap.

It also his a foreshadowing of Homeward: Cataclysm... and the Beast.
The thrill of this mission is really felt on the first time you ever play it. A ship surrounded by inactive ships suddenly becomes active. That's what a good number of missions of HW1 provided, mystery which needed to be solved. Just like the Garden of Kadesh.
Don't forget the shock of this mission if you decide to attack the ghost ship with capital ships like I did on the original Homeworld, and then the ghost ship turns them against you without warning. I end up using the move-while-attacking command to have my capital ships attack at least the missile destroyer while staying out of range of the ghost ship's influence, because sending fighters against the ghost ship while that missile destroyer is there just feels like a bad idea.
Positive this is a precursor to the Beast, if not some sort of AI that can take over ships which also have AIs of their own. Knowing that you don't include something in a game or movie for no reason, I'd guess maybe this is a foreshadowing of sorts. Perhaps the reason why the Hiigarans started fighting the Taiidan was not because they grew greedy, but because either their ships were taken over, or the Taiidan ships were, and the Hiigaran fleet was simply acting in the best interest of everyone.
Anyone else cry when he destroyed the entire ghost ship fleet instead of just disabling the Ghost ship and getting a significant fleet boost?
Yes, if you had simply disabled the ghost ship you would've gotten the entire the fleet that was guarding it, otherwise not bad......
At least you didn't get the destroyers close enough for it to take control of them like I did......
And yes that was this mission, not HW2...
Patrick Green I saw someone lead the whole fleet away then smack the control ship with bombers and bang, the whole thing. Impressive! I don't have HW2:RM, or rig to play it, but I've seen vids of people keeping inferior ships. I know there is a ship count so I'm confused by this (Those raider ion frigates are vastly inferior to the ones that can be built. Do captured ships not count towards ship count, is there no ship count, or something else I don't know?

They do count, but those multibeam frigates aren't something to sneeze at, 4 ion cannon on one frigate! Also you know you can retire ships right? Next mission he could've just retired them and gotten the RU's
Patrick Green Yes, multis are neat. I meant turanic. Couldn't recall the name, at the time. I've seen people keep the Turanic ion frigates from mission to mission and find that puzzling.
Matthew Richey most people who played the classics and stole ships from the AI keep doing it on remastered. given the classic had no ship hard limit AFAIK.
You can steal a bunch of Kadeshi Multi beam frigates in the mission before this one. You do get 2 more in this mission though.
dude I can't believe you passed up salvaging all those multi-beam frigates. those would have been completely and totally invaluable in later missions. I mean there is the big mission that comes up right before the finale where those are going to be absolutely necessary to win and you pass them up. otherwise not bad.

Those Ion cannon ships are actually much weaker than your own, and are taking up space that you could use to build more of your own ships. Your ships are actually superior, or on even terms with, most of the ships you will encounter, so any ships you steal you would be better off scraping for resources, then building your own.
Not sure if the following was already true when this series was made, but these days at least you can capture above your max. build limit for each ship type. Also, the Taiidan ships do seem to have interesting quirks at times and should not be superior to your own to begin with. Retiring the Turanic frigates should still be mandatory, though, since they are just strictly worse and you will not be close to the frigate limit at the time you get them.
Hey just so you know, the game will auto-magically collect all resources when you warp out at the end of a mission, so you don't have to physically mine everything
You were right! It happened to me....
If you brought your capital ships forward into the path of the alien ship, the alien ship mind controls your capital ships taking them. But you were smart and the capital ships were nowhere near there.

I rather like the fact that the ghost ship was never explained. Fictional universes need an unexplained mystery or two.
I have been playing the original on my old windows 98 gateway essential still cant get over how much better this looks than the original.
You got so lucky. If you move any frigates or capital ships near the vessel, it takes control of them. Within 2 seconds half of my fleet became enemy ships.

Loving this series. And so wanting to get this game but no $. Every time I watch a new one, it makes me think of the first time I read Ender's Game.
Best Strategy, in my opinion: Just build 30 - 50 Bombers and focus on the ghost ship, and you get a nice add on to your fleet.

yea you're right about it taking over everything bigger than a corvette, but doesn't take over corvettes.
Hey Shack could you possibly do more videos of the Homefront Mod for Homeworld (The Halo mod), i quite liked your previous vids and quite like both this game and Halo.

People were still projecting hopes and dreams over the broken tech demo that is Scam Citizen.
There may eventually be a product at the end of the ship selling production line but I very much doubt it will even match outlaw galaxy in its gameplay depth.
There is a HEAVY development price to pay for pushing graphical and billion component ship models above base gameplay features and interactivity.
Every other episode of this I really want to ste.. borrow that ship...
It's a pain in the ass, but in short: You can inch your destroyers *decently close* to the killer, zombie anomaly, then use corvettes to lure them a tad out, and use the "move and attach" option to sideways strafe them to death (...and if possible, kill everything except Mr. Missile Satan. Capture him, and maybe a multibeam or two, if possible. But beware that half your salvage corvettes will be n00k'd if you don't have at least a heavy corvette formation or two harassing the damn thing)

Not going to lie when i found out that you gained control over the aien controlled ships i restarted and spamed fighters bombers and a metric fleet tonn of corvettes and alpha striked the alien ship and "borrowed the 6 assault frigates muli beam frigates and the missile destroyer help replace the losses in the previous mission
This may seem silly, but i was wondering Cap. Shack if would like me to write a story on your Squadrons, Pathfinder, Red etc. think of it as a continuation to there story after homeworld 1-2.
Watch out large ships get taken over by the ship
Subdue the ailen vessel and it's capital ships become yours. No need to salvage.

I don't like this game. I'll watch it because shack but it looks like another run of the mill space RTs games. The bells and whistles are pretty cool, like the docking and what not, but I don't see what makes it so special. Also, I can't handle the voices. Completely emotionless

Maybe you should consider that the people you play in this game aren't strictly human. Them being emotionless seems to be a design choise, rather than poor voice acting.
